IndioGirl55 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
NM Sunshine - see you knew the reason all along.... That's the only time it happens to me.. But when you are hungry it is habit to shovel in the food and that's the hardest one to break for me an chewing sometimes too... -
Well it just came back all by it's self.... I went to glittlermaker and it would give me a new one - but then when i came back here it was back who the heck knows what's going on - but i did see that message about mirror something that rlibtry was taking about - so it must have been showing up for some but not others... we are going to have to find a new site... for our signatures....

Welcome Di :welcome: This is a great place for info, support etc. All those emotions are normal ... We are/did take drastic measures to get ahold of our weight problems - for us it's mostly about healthy - but i am vain enought to say I want to look better - you know the new saying 50 is the new 30's... The one thing i do want to caution you about is that this is only a tool the majority of work will be up to you by making healhty food choices and exercise. When I first joined that is what the experienced banders kept drilling into me - it's a tool - not the magic cure to your issues with food. Well gotta get back to work - Just wanted to welcome you - I will ck back Later. NMsunshine - you may just be a tad too tight - even at my tightes I could eat meat and veggies - how are your bites - are they small - I still find myself taking a big bite of something as soft as my fish and will get stuck especially if I eat too fast - I don't think it's good to pb every day.. I don't think it's good for the band and your tummy that sitched around it... When do you go back to the doc??? My doc want us to eat regular food - not to live on shakes and Soups... -

We are in the same age bracket - heck it's just a number anyway It's just that we have diff issues than the 20 & 30 yr olds - hopefully we have learned from those years - we are all expert dieters.. They haven't been at this weight loss thing as long as us -

Ok Shortgal... Prayers said - You may feel restriction on your 1st fill - I did - it didn't last too long (about 2 weeks) but I just called the doc and moved up my next appointment - that was on 10/24 and I made it through the holidays without gaining and able to lose 3.5 between 12/15 & 1/2 - I still have restriction - could use a small fill - but am able to be get full on 1 1/2 cups of food... Are you able to exercise yet?? I have found that is the key to my weight loss - I eat about 1000 - 1200 calories a day and ususally walk 3 mile minimum 4 days a week but try for 5... Mr. Willpower (love it) but since you put the MR in front - well theres's your answer in leaving you.... Couldn't pass that one up - you know men -
Mango - they make benadril (sp) strips that dissolve on your tongue Karri - I am pretty sure she was – but who cares … I got a p.m. from – I don’t remember her screen name – but real name Jen – thanking me for my post – she thought she was abnormal – for following the rules and not cheating – She wanted to know where to go to get motivation – I invited here to our lucky #7.. You give teachers a good name – you will have inspired someone with your dedication – We all have a teacher who we just loved… I think you are that kind of teacher…

They have a new place for us 50+ people on the main page - do you all want to move here so we can help the new 50+ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f120/hey-50-over-gang-we-have-new-spot-48751/ -
Take the word "DIET" out of your vocabulary... This is not a diet - diets don't work - as soon as you go off your diet and return to normal eating habits you gain all your weight back and then some. So that is telling you that what you consider normal isn't.. With the band we have a lifetime lifestyle change in our eating - healthy low fat - low sugar and exercise Yes I would get gas pains in my shoulder after eating sometimes - as for the swallowing - I can swallow ok - if I am tight and I take a big drink of Water - it takes a bit to go down...

Marlena - CONGRATS on Onderland :clap2: Real Chocolate Candy - I just don't do it - I don't start - Not one piece of See's passed my lips over the holidays - did allow myself xmas cookes that I made with Grandaughters & tamales that I made with DIL - but that was it... I find that i can satisfy my craving for choc with my double choc sf puddings & healthy choice fudgecicles which are sf and have only 80 calories... Michelle - I had cookies that were to deliver to a freind - but never made it to their house - I had finished my allotment - I took those that were left and threw in the trash - they were covered in plastic on a paper plate - then I realize that due to the fact that they were covered I could go back - so i took them out and crumbled them up so i couldn't go back.. I bet there isn't a fat person who hasn't done this you are normal - well at least you and I are NMSunshine I want to you to THROW THOSE DARN CANDIES AWAY NOW.... You can do it - walk over to the trash throw them in and pour something over them... Do it now - Do not let stupid choc win over you - they are the devil... They are doing nothing but hurting you..... Throw them away NOW..... Better in thee than in me..... Your new mantra... xoxox Janet P.S. - My NSV for not eating candy - I have a size 12 pair of pants on.... -
Ruby - When I am bored I get on the computer or get up and do something - and if that hungry crap doesn't leave then I make a snack pack of popcorn - and sit and eat 1 piece at a time.. When those graze days hit me - I just find low calorie food to graze on... As to the mean people out there - one girl didn't like what Karri & I said on doing the Dec thread where people were eating on week one - said we or it could have just me - that we were too Preachy.. So be it - some people don't want to be held accountable/resonsible for their actions - Also there are some who just come across as mean - there was a big fit about people who chose their goal weights to high - that they still had a bmi that was considered overweight.. Just like me i have a goal weight of 160 which gives me a bmi of 27 i think - to have a normal bmi my goal weight s/n 145 - there are some out there who don't understand why my goal isn't to be 100% at normal bmi - and for those who did get there - people were saying they are too skinny... It was really funny to see them sparing - I read that stuff all the time and even post - I told them for me to be at 145 - i would look like sh*t due to my age and saggy skin - so I chose 160 as a comfortable weight ... I don't care what these people think about me - we are all in tittled to our opnions. Kari - Also once you hit reply if you scroll down past the manage attachements - there is topic review - it shows what everyone has written... When you DH buys the junk - bag it up and tell him to put is somewhere out of your sight - Marcy - On your friend with the sleave - I have looked at it - Wasabubble butt has talked about it - they have a board just like this one - It's like a permant band - they don't redirect your intesntes but the sew up your tummy so you just have a little one... But if she thinks any WLS is the fix - as we all know she is so wrong... Jeanie - Thanks - me being the Cheerleader helps me just as much as it helps other - It reinforces my reslove to get this weight off. WW - they have a website - you can join on line - they have GREAT recepits... When I first did WW is was exchanges - Now it's point - they take your what you should weigh for your height & built and say you should have 28 points as day to loose weight to get to that weight. It's based on low fat - low or sf - so a serving of progresso soup is 0 point - so that means it's free - a serving of meat depending on the size is so many point - you eat until your points are gone - you count points instead of calories - but it's all the same - WW is about eating healthy but you aren't limited in what you eat - it teaches you protion control go to their website http://www.weightwatchers.com/index.aspx It is the basis of my eating. All that cheerleading I do is what I learned in my WW meetings... You go to weekly meetings weigh in (accountablity) and listen to the speaker tell you all this motivatiional stuff - secerts etc.. I guess becuase of WW nothing is not allowed - you just have to deduct the points - it's all about moderation... I truly think that this has helped me so much - I guess I am lucky that i haven't really derailed - but time will tell - but these pants I have on today - i want to wear inside out so everyone can see SIZE 12 another great motivation.. Ok Jackie - you can walk out your front door and slip & fall and crack your head - you can be driving and some stupid ass runs a stop sign and hits you - Yes there are people who have troubles with their bands, infections - slips etc - Infection is just stuff that happend and the other complications - imho just might be due to the fact that hey haven't followed are the rules - what I have read if i remember correctly is that most of these people have had problems from day one.. You aren't having any problems - you don't have heartburn 24/7 or acid reflux - your port hasn't flipped - you are doing good - yes complication can and do happen to some but not to all of us - There is no use in worrying what can happen - Be happy that you aren't on of those who have had a complication and do all that you can by following the rules so that you don't have one - STAY AWAY FROM THAT THREAD if you are one who worries - I read it - but I am not a worrier... Karri - I to like a schedule - Affirmation for the day "take credit for the successes that you have achived and that will foster more success" OK gang it's taken 1 hour to get all this posted between called and people coming in my office. I tried to get on last night - but there was something wrong with my interent connection - I gotta get to work ck back later.. xoxo Janet

<p>Karri As stated in the post I just did to Peaches what we need to do - take Phyl's advice - chill - quit working this so hard - we need to make this journey enjoyable - and not so hard that we get tired of the enormous challenge that we put in front of us that we are going to quit and give up. You really don't have to count calories down to the penny - I don't count my calories to the penny - I do google them some time - but since I have dieted so much I know how much things are - I don't count every pat of butter - If you looked at my food diary - it will show 900 calories for the day - but in all reality it's about 1200. I wonder why surgery made you not able to drink milk - that's weird - I am not a big milk drinker so I haven't really tried -but have added skim or 2% to my shakes and didn't have a prob. But if ice cream was a problem in the past for you - I guess that's a good thing < I carry my weight all over - it's pretty evenly distributed. But those excess pounds that I had added in the last year where really showing up thru the middle. I know that you dislike the teaching - I am so tired of my job too and will find myself saying I hate my job - but all that does is reinforce your apathy for it - so like the saying goes - if you are in a bad mood - smile and if you keep smiling your mood will become a smile... I try positive affirmations alot... I try not to use the word hate (operative word try!) cuz if you are negative about something it will just snowball - I try not to dwell on things - I am a great Scarlett - I will worry about that tomorrow... I just read an article in my Self magazine about happiness. It said when you go to bed at night - think of 3 things that were good that day. Some days you may have to really reach to find those good things but they are there it's and it a good way to fall asleep - I do try and thank God every night for my day - truly our lives are so much better than others - we are blessed we have jobs - a roof over our heads - food in our tummies (sometimes too much) - look we all have computer - there are other who aren't as fortunate as us.. We have to look at the positives and less on the negative. Well, today is grocery shopping day - and I do need to clean a bit - so will ck back later
-
Thanks Peaches !!!! I think that sometimes I just over think/do things - just like exercise a while back I was really pushing to do a 15 min mile - but it was kicking my butt.. I was talking to my Uncle about it and he said relax - don't make this so hard that you are going to quit - a 17 min mile is a good pace - concentrate on your form - listen to your music - don't make it such a chore or you are going to quit - so that's what I did - I quit trying so hard - if a good song comes on my iPod - I will do 4.0 for that song but then put it back down to 3.7 or even 3.5. So this is what we need to do - take Phyl's advice - chill - quit working this so hard - we need to make this journey enjoyable - and not so hard that we get tired of the enormous challenge that we put in front of us that we are going to quit and give up.

HELP post op gas pains i think
IndioGirl55 replied to Cavegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cavegirl - I know that I have been on threads where someone asked "Does it (surgery) hurt" and someone answers No -- I tell them my Elephant analogy - for me it did hurt and I only really questioned my decision that 1st day when I first woke up back in my room - i was in pain - thirsty & hot.. My DIL say i was using the "F" word alot (which I don't remember) but it's just like having a baby - the memory of the pain fades - -
Linda - I have a gf who could really use WNTW help - shes 51 and tries to dress like a 20 yr old - 1st shes too old and 2nd she isn't a size 6. It her that I look at every day and say omg doesnt' she look in the mirror - Rolls showing thru her clothes - etc - I am the Style cop at work to - if your new outfit / hair cut passes Janet's opnion then it's officially cute  She is getting better with dressing her age.. She always gets tons of complements when she wears something that I bought her for her bday or xmas... And when she shops she thinks - will this past the Janet test :rolleyes Linda - congrats on getting a DIL - August your goal for your Mother of the Groom outfit

Karri - I still very self consious (sp) about walking in to the regular womens dept - I feel like they are looking at me saying you are in the wrong department - in fact at Macys a sales lady told this lady looking for something that the Big Womens sizes were down stairs (she was a big girl)... I went into express - but looked like 12 was the largest size and I am still in x-large tops - so walked out - its funny about sizes - one xl fits another doesnt - size 12 pants fit and then the next one doesn't - tried on some womens 14 jean - they fit - but were slim legged and my calfs are too big - don't like the way they look on me - I am a BIG WHAT NOT TO WEAR fan - in fact Clinton Kelly was at our Macy's last yr - I got there 3 hrs eartly just to make sure I got a seat... So I go for the trouser style pant or wider leg pants - and i HATE tight tops - I still have a roll & 1/2 on my back that I am very self aware of... I have a few of those very high wasted support garments that help smooth them out.. Now adays everything is made out of such thin material that shows your back fat.. I am very critical - I have to look just so.. I love camp style shirts made of a good weight cotton/rayon Caribean Joes - but since it's winter i can't find any and all the ones i had (which was tons) are too big... I did walk thru the bbw section but didn't see anything I likes and then went to layne bryant - but didn't see anything that caught my eye... I have don't copy before - sometimes when my spelling is really bad I will copy into word and spell ck then paste back - so when the site is slow like it has been lately I will do that.. Karri - What would you do if you rested?? You are so tight I don't think you could do much damage ::eek: unless it's ice creams or something that goes down to easy.. what do you want to eat - have a little - I don't worry too much about what I am eating cuz 98% of the time it's healthy so the other 2% is normal imho - I do enjoy my healthy food just as much as I did my unhealthy food and if I want a taco I will have one - I haven't eaten out for about 2 or 3 weeks now (my xmas cookies & tamales instead of eating out) but I do go to lunch w/my gf about once every 2 week - I have had chinese - mexican - I just don't go to the sandwich places cuz I don't think I can eat a sandwich that we use to alway go eat (jalapone bread salami cheese) - I don't eat healthy all the time in fact last friday night I has scallops & shrimp in a cream sauce over rice - had 1 1/2 cups - with the cream it wasn't low fat - but it was great comfort food and i needed it - before I would have eaten the whole thing in one night - I had 2 - 1 1/2 c containers leftovers - ate the other 1 Sat - and had to throw one out Friday when I cleaned out the fridge. You do eat out don't you ... or cuz you are so tight you haven't been We had pizza last week at work for a going away lunch for someone - it was thin crust - but I got stuck too after a couple bites - and I have had pizza before with no problems - This will become less of a struggle as we go thru the year - I bet at our 1 yr anniversary it will be more comfortable for us - I bet none (or not very many) of us have been on any program for 1 yr. I know I haven't done it for more than 6 months... Ok BF issue -I really don't know what to say about this = I know that being single helps me with this whole band/eating issue - cuz I know my xdh wasn't a fish eater and I don't know how I would have done this with someone else to cook for - it would be so much harder. So I can understand why you are tired.. I do have my gs but I make him hamburger helper which I hate - he does eat fish with me - and he does fend for his self alot - especially now that he drives and isn't at home as much.. who cooks?? do you eat separate meals?? It would bug me to watching him eat unhealty and just for the fact that it's unhealthy - a girl at work (big girl) had fish for lunch on friday - but it was fried and she had home made italiain bread - the day before 2 cups of pasta - I hate watching her eat - plus she is diabetic You are like me when you are doing healthy you want everyone else to too... Men - what can I say - can't live with them can't live without them.. You have us ...

having trouble getting protien drinks down
IndioGirl55 replied to healthyagain's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I use the unjury unflavor in my coffee - you gotta let it cool a bit (can't be over 130 degrees) 1 scoop 20 grms of pt.. Also - I like these clear protien drinks - they taste like crystal lite or kool aide Bari Wise Bariatric Health & Diet Protein Fruit Drinks 15 grms of pt for 70 calories -
I told my doc I drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning - he said that was ok - as long as i didn't drink it all day long - I do have ice tea in the summer - maybe one a day... So I am not a caffine addict..

How is weight loss for people over 50?
IndioGirl55 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Carol - Your doc or nutristionst should be giving you a list of all the vitatmins that he wants you to take after surgery - it's was about a week after mine that i had to start taking them - Chewable mulit Vitatmins - Chewable Calicum Citra - sublingual vit b complex for the b-12- I am very lucky my doc office is great I see the nutritionst & the doc every time i go in - also at bariatic advantage they sell chewable vitatmins for banders - it's calledd Vitaband... the are pretty good. -
Linda - 1 pair of pants are jean trouser pants ralph lauren dark indigo - they were to much $$$ but they looked so good on (except for the little muffin on top but with the correct undergarment & blouse should be ok) Didn't find a blouse for the concert but got 2 tops from pennys. I have that velvet jacket in my colleage (sp) pic - I haven't tried it on together yet - and I have one of those empire blouse that might work - Still have tomorrow or next Sat to shop if need be - but gotta tell you this - While shopping today I thought about your insturctions - tried on some boots- but my calfs are too big :cry. I have some out in the garage that I haven't worn in yrs they are scrunched so they aren't the kind that zip - but high heels - will see if they will work and they don't kill my feet - I use to wear 4 & 5 inch heels - now i try and stick to 2 1/2 - 3 max... I have always been comfort before beauty - i remember my mom telling me as i got dressed for my 8th grade Xmas dance - beauty before comfort (i must have been complaining about something hurting) - that has stuck with me all my life - she's been dead for 38 yrs... I am drinking coffee now and not decaf - it was 7:30 and I was ready for bed and it's way too early - am trying to watch the debates - they are talking about medical insurance now... I am recording so I can go back and really pay attention - I gotta be prepared to vote in november and til now haven't been paying too much attention - just like christmas they have started way too early... Jeanie - 1st thing you need to do - is take the word diet it out of your vocabulary... Diets are only for a short time and what happens when you quit your diet - you go right back to your old eating habits which made you fat in the 1st place so diets don't work - We are not dieting we are eating healthy and exercising.. this is a lifetime lifestyle change in our eating habits not a diet... This is why I love WW - it is a well rounded balanced eating plan - and that's what i follow - I have meat, starch, veggies and mostly sf sweets - at the new little market around the corner they sell these little mini loafs of french bread - about 6 inchs - I buy these and slice a little slice add a little butter and am happy - I will not be deprived - I end up throwing half away - cuz it get stale - I don't have the urge to eat the whole thing like I did in the past when I want choc i have 1 or 2 sf double choc pudding or a fudgecicle. If i am extra hungry at dinner or lunch - i eat extra veggies - for lunch yesterday 3 oz salmon and 1 3/4 c squash... Throw the junk out - no more - I refuse to even have one piece of candy - I don't need it and the calories are just too much for such little amount of food - i didn't eat one candy bar in the past I would buy the giant ones (hersey w/nut) or bags and eat them til they were gone (1 day) ... I really do just stay away from sweets - and high fat foods. So you were down my way - Pandra wasn't open last time I was over that way - my gf & I went to lunch at chipolets next door - had the burrito in a bowl (no tortilla) but they give too much rice - i just at the top and threw most of it away - i was full all afternoon... Blueyedbaby For xmas we had a 20 day (out of 31) exercise challenge - we have extended it - no one is keeping track - we have just added to our signature so that we are accountable to the group (that's why i did it) So the challenge is that you exercise 20 days this month. Are you in
-
Coffee is ok... Per my doc - each is diff - what did your doc say... When you are out to eat - order your food and when it comes - ask for a box - and box what you aren't going to eat right then and there . I too find myself picking if there is food in front of me even when I am full..
-
OMG MY POST DIDN'T POST!!!! This site must be very busy cuz it sure takes a long time to load.... OK Here i go again Thanks Jackie & Kirjah - I am glad I'm not the only one who has these thoughts... K - I still smoke about 1/2 pack a day - I quit for 10 days before surgery but it was just too hard to give up food and cigs at the same time - heck you gotta have at least one vice in life and cigs are mine... J- Night eating this is my fav time to eat too - This is why I budget my calories to allow for healthy snacks at night.. My whole family are night eaters. I always say "our Mother never weaned us from the bottle" Great NSV - bought 2 size 12 pants today.... The are a little tight around the waist but the do button & zip with out having to lay on the bed. while changing clothes - i looked at my thighs in the mirror - OMG they look like they belong on an 80 yr old women - between them - my dog ear boobs and bat wings - When did I get so old.... Here is a real kicker - a new walgreens open just around the corner from my house - so when to transfer my prescription - the kid (oriental I can't tell how old he was) is looking at my insurance card and says "IS THIS PART D" OMG I am only 52 (well 53 at the end of the month) but heck I don't look 65 So between the whole saggy baggy body issues - some kid saying I'm 65 I should be depressed - but I'm not - I have 2 size 12 pairs of paints hanging in my closet... This is a tad shorter than my 1st post - but i'm tired :nervous going to go see what i can scrounge up to eat... I will ck back in a few..

NMsunshine I our fickled bands - it's funny how one day you can eat something that you don't think will go down - and the next day you have soup and get tight.. I had pizza at work last week (it was lunch provided by the office) i had 2 bite and stuck - had to quit... but i have eaten pizza before.. OMG 16 pills thats alot - I guess i am really lucky i only have 1  Benny's that's what they were called - diet pills Well, I am off to the shower - I walked 3 miles at the gym and i sweat like a pig - my head is soaking wet - i wonder why i sweat so bad - i do anything phyical and my hair looks like I just got out of the shower.. I get hot easliy and they didn't have the fans on cuz its like 58 dgrs here..
