Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
IndioGirl55 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Bonnie - Welcome Your nurse should be shot imho - I am into positive affirmations - if she tells you that banders fail - tell her to come to this site and see ALL the people who do lose 100% of their excess weight - that's BS - It's the person who fails not the band - If you do the work and the band does it's job you will win this battle of being fat - for me this is the 1st time I have ever lost this much weight - ususally 30 -40 lbs and up down - up down - you know the drill.. I was happy when I moved to mushies after surgery - I had 10 days liquids - I found that homemade Soups where alot more statisfing that the canned stuff and potatoe Soup was great - I like savoy more that the sweet stuff. It can be hard - but it's doable since its only for a short time. Donna - Sound like you have good restriction and being thoughful on what you are putting in your mouth and exercising - this is a lifetime lifestyle change and sometimes it takes a while to get that mindset going - just keep plugging along - coming here with your questions and for support - we will help you get through the tough times. Brenda - I agree with Denise - I just got a fill Wed and I may be too tight - am going to give it the weekend and see how I am doing on Monday - I got about 8 oz of coffee down slowly this morning - I have read that warm opens the band up and cold can tighten it.. You are tight and this takes a while to get use to - we can't guzzle like we use to and this is hard to adjust to.. C.N. Isn't if funny when you think about the weight we have lost - just think you are no longer carrying around 3 - 10 lbs bags of potatoes - when you think of our fat like that it's so understandable why we feel so much better with 30 lbs gone - I can't believe I was carrying around 65 lbs of potatoes on my back every day - heck no wonder i was exhausted all the time... -
Good Morning Gang Well Phyl must have gone to Quartzite (sp) - it's a little town in the middle of the Desert a lot of people go every yr - the have like a big swap meet,... Karri - I am feeling you on being tight - I pb's on a fudgecicle last nite. I was able to get in about a cup of she crab soup - but very slowly - the diff between me and you is I do get hungry - I most likely got 500 calorie & 57 pt I am going to give it the weekend and see how I do - If I am not better by Monday will call to get some taken out. Kari - How’s the biking & craving food going...? If I go back to the doc's next week I will ask them to copy the articles I scanned. I may even subscribe to the magazine - it's all about bariatic's - both bypass and band - but regardless of method we all have the same issues with food. Steph - I am sorry about your back and headaches - When we had our last summer Olympics - I got in my pool and tried to do all the stroke (I did belong to swim club as kid won 3rd place in back stroke at 1 meet) well the butterfly threw my back out - I think that was my last time at the back doctor.. But have had siattic (sp) problems in the past so I feel your pain - Hugs. Brandy how tall are you - My doc will do surgery I think if you are 75 lbs - but we have a new set of doc's who are plastic surgeons who are moving into the bariatic's movement - no insurance - no counseling - you go to seminar on Sunday and are scheduled for surgery by Friday - and in their own clinic not the hospital - I think I read that you only have to be 50 lbs over weight - They are going to give lapband a bad name imho - as they don't do the whole package - testing - counseling - nutritionist etc - we will see - they will end up being the Dr Adams (Kayne West Mom's PS who killed her by not doing all the pre op stuff etc) of lapband.. Katrina - since I am on liquids - I am drink my protein - but I get sick of the sweet stuff - but I may have to look for that powder Well gotta get to work - just wanted to drop in aand say Hi... Talk to ya'll later
-
I go to the gym after work - kills an hour there - then get home - get on the computer to LBT site - kill another hour or 2 - cook and eat around 7:30 - watch t.v. - clean kitchen - eat snack popcorn - tv then bed - I too don't have much activity at night after work 7:30 to 4 - So when I am bored i might go take a shower - give my self a facial - paint my nails - when I can't fight the urge along longer I find something low calorie to eat - plus I budget my calories during the day to allow for night time Snacks. You just gotta find out what will work for you... Good Luck
-
Well Crystal - look at me - 65.5 in 6 months and I could be your Mom (my son will be 37 in July) - You have the benefit of youth in your favor - so go for it - it's work - but the rewards sure out weigh the sacrifices....
-
Well, we need all the props we can get for all this hard work we are doing. It's not easy changing our old habits.. :rolleyes2:
-
Call your doctor and ask him 9 days is a long time imho - I had the opposite problem - but really call your doctor and ask him or her as the case may be

Newbie has question about carbs and sugar
IndioGirl55 replied to citygirl4616's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Make some people don't require fills right away - there are people who are at my doc's office who have been banded 6 months before they ever got a fill - for some - just the band being in place is enought restrictions - you will find out the longer you are here that every one is so dfferent as to what their doc's say and how many fills they have ... -
Struggling with Postop Diet - Help Me!
IndioGirl55 replied to Jeni's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on your doctor - full liquids on my doc's diet included creamed soups with no chunck - I had yogurt pudding & fudgecicles - -
Well you know me can't type or spell with worth poop - sorry about that - you guy are so close in your names :rolleyes2:

Struggling with Postop Diet - Help Me!
IndioGirl55 replied to Jeni's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found that homemade soups were more satisfying than the canned stuff - Make any soup you like - then puree it in your magic bullit or blender - you won't feel do deprived Cream of pinto bean - navy bean soups are great - just blend the Beans & meat after they have cooked and add them back into the broth... Cream of chicken soup - potatoe soups are both very good for hunger too. You can do it - I have to go back on post op diet after my fills - -
When did you really start losing weight
IndioGirl55 replied to brickgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am not the majority - but I have lost something every week since surgery - there were 3 weeks where it was only 1/2 lbs each week - but it was a loss and not a gain and this was during the holiday - I love me & by band - I did the majority of the work by eating healthy and exercising and the band helped by controling portions... It's doing it's job and I am doing mine...:rolleyes2: -
Redd It depends on your doc Yes with my doc ... - I was suppose to quit 6 weeks prior - but heck the time between my first visit and surgery was 6 weeks - I quit for about 10 days - then the friday before surgery started again - told them before surgery cuz i didn't want any problems - I still smoke - and my nurse knows it - they told me they would give me chantix when I was ready... I smoke about 1/2 pack a day.. I am not a 3 packer..

Reaction to being "severly obese"
IndioGirl55 replied to kat_in_GA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doctor just told you a big fat lie - for a person 5'4 145 is a 25 bmi - tell that doc to jump in a lake - it's those kind of people who make people have eating disorders - I'm 5'4 too so I know what the charts say - at your age I weighted around 120 which is the average depending on your build. But heck be happy with 140 - you would have a normal bmi.... -
Newbie has question about carbs and sugar
IndioGirl55 replied to citygirl4616's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lucy I am glad to hear it's nothing to serious - It's alway good to call your doc for these kinds of questions - it just so much safer that taking advise from us unlicensed doctors:tongue: Good Luck and hope you are feeling better -
TA337 - Congrats on 90lbs thats great I will have to try this since I am a big fish eater - but it's going to be a couple of weeks cuz i just got a fill yesterday and with my doc i have to go back the post op diet - liquids mushie soft then reg - 7 days for each..
-
Katrina - You are not preachy or know-it all at all - and Yes I bet you do get bugged with alot of questions - I know I bug my DIL as she is a RN too.. It's probly that age thing I just don't think of myself as old esepcially now with my weight loss.. Before I blamed it on my weight - now - I guess i will just have to accept the age thingie:frown: I promise no more bugging - (well unless it's an emergency and turly I would be calling the doc asap) Phy - I was worried about you cuz you are here just as much as me :frown: How funny that you posted this - last night as I was going to sleep - I was thinking about you - and thought - Oh Phyl hasn't mentioned about her restriction (guess I was thinking this cuz I got filled yesterday) and wondered how it was doing.. It can't hurt to call cuz it would be cheaper than flying home - tell Kristin you know me and dr bobbie too (wright's the last name) - but I gotta tell you - you may want to add a few more calories - I sort of ate on Tuesday nite (burritos 2 with extra cheese) cuz i knew i was going in for the fill the next day and would be on soup/liquids for a while - guess what - Scale was down 3.5 this morning and ya yesterday didn't eat much at at - 1 pt drink - pinto bean soup - sf fudgecicle - but that's not going to make for the calorie the day before - I agree with Marcy (at least for me and we are all diff) that you should have at least 1 day a week where you have more calories - 1300 to 1400 it may help your metabolism.. Steph Thanks for the website - My doc sell stuff too but they have a pretty good mark up - the only problem is i can't find the proti15 clear on line - can find the soups - haven't tried it yet i got some cream of chick yesterday will have for lunch today - I will ck this site out - Thanks - Let me know about the banana - Good Morning Gang - I see everyone gets on after I get off - I am going to get a complex Karri - where are you - you are mia too much school work?? I wouldn't what a job that I had to do on my own time all the time - I understand every now and then but omg - you work 24/7 - Teachers are under appreciated Well gang - I guess I know what restriction is - usually i have 1 to 2 cups coffee in the morning never been a problem - well this morning only could drink 1 and now sipping on a mocha protien drink they gave me yesterday - cuz I know that I'm going to have a hard time getting all my protein in cuz I am getting full very fast. It took me a while to eat my 1/2 cup of soup last night - I don't know if I like being this tight - I will give it a couple of days and if it does loosen up - we go back an get a little taken out. Well, I better get to work - I will ck back later ...

Peaches Maybe once your band is replaced you won't be needing months of fills - since you have a defective band that hasn't been holding them is the reason you have had to go so much - I have been lucky - I am on my third (which I really think I needed more mentally than phyically) and I'm good and restricted - and I have to go to postop diet after a fill - 1 week at each stage - but as you know I don't follow it to a T - but pretty close - heck most of my meals now are considered mushie to soft I must be the only person on the entire site who still gets hungry - I read so much that when they have good restriction their hunger goes away - I still get hungry - just get full faster... Well gs just came home and is hungry... be back in a few

Wheetsin Newbie don't see this section and the other one that gives instructions for ticker - as they state they don't know how to navigate in here right away and they aren't always super computer savvy either. - I have been here since May and I find new stuff every now and then that I didn't know about.. They are excited and need help as to where to go - Introductions seems like the 1st place for them to go. IMHO there should be a forum sitcky or whatever it's called "NEWBIE ENTER HERE FIRST" and then have all the definitions - tutorials - etc in one place. Everyone jumps into introductions and then the questions start - I was new and lucky that the ladies in the 50+ thread were patience with me and answered my questions. I think the old timers here are forgetting they were new once and are loosing patience’s answering the same questions over and over again - Sometime I try and direct them and other times I ignore figuring someone else will But I really do think we need a forum (see I am not super computer savvy in what they are called forum vs. sticky) that people see when they hit the home board so they know where to go to get their answers - It needs a title "newbie" this may help - jmho...

Ok where is everyone !!!!! I am making cream of pinto bean soup - think i got it a little too spicy but it should be ok - I am hungry haven't had anything but a protein drink they gave me at the doctors office.. I even took the ham hock I use to cook with the beans and chopped it up and put it in my magic bullet - the thing is still usefull since i have to go back to our original band diet after a fill. I didn't go to they gym today - I know bad girl - but just needed to come home and relax.. My excuse ya'll want hear it...... Want to let my fill settle..... Hows that for an excuse  Ok I guess I will cruise the site and see who need my words of wisdom:tongue: Will ck back later

Reaction to being "severly obese"
IndioGirl55 replied to kat_in_GA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tammru I wish you luck - I love my band - it's the greatest tool imho - You are young and you should have your life in front of you and enjoy it - which I know you really can't being over weight - The band is a great tool to help in your portion control - but that's all it is - you gotta do alot of mental working in changing your eating habits - this isn't a diet - cuz on a diet you do it until you get to the weight you want - then you go back to eating "normal" well eating normal is what got you fat in the first place - this truly is a lifetime lifestyle change - I eat healthy 98% of the time and about once a month allow myself a treat - I also go to the gym between 4-5 days a week and walk 3 miles on the treadmill... I started slow and worked myself up to a 16.5 mile Good Luck on your journey.. -

IndioGirl55 replied to kat_in_GA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it will depend on your insurance - some insurance won't do band if your bmi is like 50 - they want to do bypass - But I know people who's bmi was over 50 and have been banded.. Good Luck -
Sometimes they just dissapper then reapper - just start over - sometimes it says that your password isn't correct when you know it is - copy and repaste into your signature - just keep messing with it Good Luck..

I WAS morbidly obese - now just obese - 1 point away from being over weight... Gotta love the person who invented the band  -
Chell The colonoscopy isn't that bad - here the put you in a twlight state - most fall asleep I didn't it was like i had a few drinks - forgot all about the doc doing the deed - just talked to the nurse and watched my colon. Doc said not polps (SP) and was gone - they were giving me sH*t about my 16 yr grandson driving me home - they said I had to have an adult - I told them the adults were working and all that was needed was someone to drive me who was licensed - heck by the time i got to the car all the crap had worn off - I could have driven...
