Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
IndioGirl55 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Besty - You are too kind - I am just a fat chick working my band... I went shoping a while back like in Oct or Nov and got 14's - and some x-large tops - then in January got 2 size 12 pants :biggrin2: - My 14's are falling off me - tops still ok (i don't like tight stuff still have back fat issues) - I really don't want to shop until I hit goal - but think I might get a few things this weekend - But now I have to learn all new stores and floors - I am use to shopping in like 3 stores Avenue - Lane Bryant - Macy's - I now go to Macy's and don't know where to look - there is so much more selections... I am lucky - I carry my weight well - always have - most people would have never guessed I weighed 250 lbs 6 months ago... Thanks again for the props !!!! -
Ruby - CONGRATS 186 - WAY TO GO GIRL - YOU ARE DOING IT... I am happy to read that you are feeling better - I am so happy I got a flu shot - knock on wood I haven't really been sick this winter - a couple days over new years had a tad of a cold but nothing big.. Yep - I am here most morning:biggrin2: - It's the first place I come when I get to work -:biggrin2: so many of you are on after I get off at nite usually around 7 or 8 - I can't be on the computer after 9 p.m. cuz then I can't sleep and 5 a.m. comes early - I just want to say Hi to all my GF's - and wish everyone a good day. I love readying what everyone is doing in their day to day life - just like you do when you get to work - you chat with your friends on what they did the night before - or over the weekend... Well back to the grind - ck in later...

A couple of pre-op questions......help please
IndioGirl55 replied to Grayorm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JustinsMama I was responding to you both really. I am the one who said band does 25% and the other 75% is up to you.. I have found so many people go into this surgery and then are dissappointed that they aren't losing the weight - it's cuz they haven't done the head work and expect the band to to all the work. This is a lifetime lifestyle change and you really have to prepare your self for this.. That's all I am saying.. It's just my opinion based on the information that I have learned from my doctor - being on this site and my own experience.. The band is only a tool. -
Post op diahreaah? (Don't know if I spelled that right)
IndioGirl55 replied to ctaylor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Christi - I had this problem for about 3 or 4 weeks (can't remember the exact lenght) even after I moved to mushies - I finally took some imodeom (sp) and it stopped.. -
A couple of pre-op questions......help please
IndioGirl55 replied to Grayorm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Doc agrees with the 75/25 analogy - this is why the band is only suppose to get rid of 50% or 60% of your excess weight in 2 yrs. That's what they advertise (you got 100 lbs to lose - they expect you to lose 50 with the band and that's it) that’s bs in my opinion Well you have to change your whole mentally about food if you plan on losing and keeping the weight off. The battle is more mental than physical - You think you are hungry when you really aren't - you are filling time - soothing emotions etc - You gotta add exercise all this is mental the band is only a piece of plastic in your stomach - it doesn't make your food choices or make you get out and exercise - it's doesn't counsel you about your issue around food and why you over eat. It is a physical barrier that can stop you from over eating by causing you to PB (which isn’t good for the band) – I can tell you from experience that I am physically full after dinner 99% of the time – but still want to continue to eat - or you can eat around it – sugar loaded foods – high fat foods. Those are the facts – so you think you only have to do 30% of the work and the band will do the rest?? You think that it’s all about the physical and not the mental I guess we just have a diff of opinions – I wish you the best with your weight loss and beating your addiction to food. (just like a drug addict who gets clean - their brains still crave the drug for the rest of their life - it's not physical it's mental) -
Peaches Love your Picture - and your fur baby is cute.. Now we need Steph - You can see your weight loss - you are getting a neck - Haven't you all noticed that we didn't have necks befor and now we do  Katrina - you haven't even gone down in your band size 38 - I was a 42 D and now a 38 - maybe even 36 and the 38's are not tight.. but my cup size is the same - just flatter - I hear you about DDD OMG how are your shoulders I know that alot of people like big boobs (Ruby:biggrin2:) but me personnaly I would be happy to be a full B or C.. Yes you guys Phyl is short I am short 5.3 1/2 - say I'm 5'4 and Phyl is shorter than me and usually I am always the shortest in the crowd. Well - I'm at work - cking in before I start my day... Did good this week down 3 lbs - i just can't friggin beleive it - I keep waiting to wake up from this dream or for the scales to quit moving - I am pretty restricted but can eat - have a little heartburn this morning I have noticed that lately - just a tad not really noticeable - but there... :confused2: Love that we have more smileys showing up but I stll miss the hug on.. Ck back later ladies....

Thanks Brenda I thank all of you as you all inspire me too - You guys are always giving me props for my advice, my weight loss etc and all these accolads inspires me to do good when I don't want to.. You gotta post a pic in 3 months - I think that's about how we did it on my lucky #7 thread .. Time for dinner - ck back later.. -
Peaches - LOVED IT !!!!!!! Glad to hear you still have restriction - I am keeping my fingers crossed.. 1000 calories doing good... Phyl - I know you were teasing - but as soon as it came out of my mouth - I thought - that maybe it shouldn't have said it like I did (like are you STUPID or what) you can count on me for saying things like that without thinking first... I owe you all a big thank you tonite - why you ask - well after work I was really tired and didn't want to go to the gym. But thought to myself as I was trying to talk myself out of going - what would you tell the girls - you would tell them just do it - it your tired slow your speed - or only do 1/2 but get your butt in gear and do a little something - So I took my advice to all of you and just did it... Thank you all for keeping me honesty... Well It's 7:45 - gotta go eat - might ck back later (depending what's on TV) If not talk to ya'll in the morning.. Karri - I hope you didn't over do it at the gym tonite - you are just getting over being sick - And good for you for taking time for you...
-
Thanks Karen - I have done it with the same mindset as you... I didn't gain one pound over the holidays - I had a few Cookies but nothing like before and it wasn't cuz the band stopped me - It was cuz I stopped me and exercised. Wishing you a speeding recovery.. Janet
-
Karen - You have the correct mindset and you have done your research and I feel that you will do very well as a bander . This band is not a diet - it's not a game (having Major Surgery) it is a lifetime lifestyle change and as long as you do your part the band will do it's (once you get proper restriction) That being said even when you don't the best restriction you gotta make healthy food choices because this a lifestyle change as you can eat around the band I eat healthy 98% of the time - I do still eat out - have a taco & bean - a couple of bite of a bloomin onion - but that's 2% of the time and I now exercise 4-5 days a week. I follow a weight watcher eating plans as for me I need a well balanced eating plan - I will never be an Atkins girl - - Also I do have snacks - but they are heathly - 3 meals - 2 snacks.. I feel that people are doing a disservice to themselves thinking that this band is going to do all the work that they can still eat like they did before the band but just less - heck most of us were eating high fat - sugar loaded foods and not exercising - What we (fat people) consider normal is not - it's not healthy. The secret is that you have to truly give up your old habits - addictions IMHO I think the road to success is more mental than physical and it can be done as long as you put the work in I will say a little prayer for you and your surgery tomorrow..........

Phyl - CONGRATULATIONS 4.2 POUNDS - GOOD JOB :biggrin: Like I said before - I could really see your loss !!!! Did I sound bad - it just slipped out - -
-
I would mention it to your Doc next time you go if you get it often - I only get mine occassionally - Yep good posture takes off 10 lbs - boobs - i'm still buying "D" but the have deflated mostly just skin in the bra - I have grandma tittys - or dog ears as they are called sometime:eek: - I really need some good bras... I would love to get a real professional fitting...
-
Yep Karri you are right about that one - and in person you can really see her weight lost !!!!! Sonya - are you talking about your band or your port - sometime if I am slouching I will get a pinch feeling - but readjust by sitting up and am ok - my port is about 3 or 4 inches below my bra - I have been noticing pinch feeling when i bend over to put my tennies on - but its on the right side by my liver - like scar tissue straining - we that's what I put it off to...
-
Wanabthin OK GF - stay the heck away from McDonalds. .. I was too tight for 1 week too - I had all of the fill except .02 taken out - I stil have restriction - but I do know what it feels like to not eat for a week. This is one of the reasons i say most of our hunger is head hunger and not true phyical hunger You are trying to make up for not eating - you can't do this - You can't just rely on your band - YOU have to make good healthy food choices and Big Mac & Fries aren't healthy foods - Go back in and have a couple .02 put back in - but in the mean time you gotta make healthy food choices - Protein - veggies and then starches. the band only does 25% of the work the other 75% is up to you... When you want to eat - find low calorie low fat foods to eat that will fill you up - If I am extra hungry I make a snack size popcorn and then eat one piece at a time - 100 calore - If I am hunger after dinner I eat more veggies - you can get full on healthy stuff you just gotta retrain your brain...

Thanks !!!! I feel so much better... OMG I was in such denial prior to being banded - my excuse for being tired was my age not the fact that I was FAT. Denise I'm with you - low rise aren't made for people who have tummies - I like my pants at my waist - period end of story.. -
Good Morning Gang Peaches - here is the link to the Brag Photos - http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f94/progress-picture-brag-thread-51324/ I usually just go to my account and it shows all my subscriptions - I rarely come in thru the July 2007 link - so that's where it's at This is the new place to post pics. I have everything I can cross - crossed for you... Jackie - LOOKING FANTASTIC GIRL !!!!! Hope you are feeling better Nichole - OMG YOU ARE DOING GREAT !!!! Kari - Call your sleep clinic - I agree what was said... I no longer use my cpap machine - infact took it back to them in Dec - I had slight sleep apnea - I never stopped breathing just that my breathing got real shallow - I haven't used mine since surgery - kept getting bills for $11 bucks a month so said here's your machine... Katrina - You don't have to bring your hubby - Girls weekend.... Do you guys really want to do this - I think it would be fun ... Linda and everyone else - We want pictures... Ruby - I know how hard it is to get the water in when you are tight - hugs to you hope it loosens up soon... IT'S OFFICAL !!! WE HAVE THE BEST SUPPORT GROUP !!!! Phyl & I went to the 1st lapband support group meeting here in the Desert last nite - there were 8 banders (incl me & Phyl) - 1 prebander and the lady who leads it. It was alright - but can't say that I am willing to give up exercise and a late night (got home 8:30 ish - I am at work by 7:15 a.m so that makes for a long day) to go.. It was a little disorginized imho - we scared the newbie with our pbing stories - and I can't beleive she said she did her research but didn't know what PBing was - I told her I though you did your research .. It just popped out - I guess that's one of the very 1st terms I learn when I was on this site.. I kept pushing LBT telling them you have 24/7 support here - 2 girls were Aug - 3 of us July and 1 guy October and the other guy I don't know - I guess they usually have speakers for exercise - head hunger etc - we will see - they have one closer to me and it's both bypass & banders - they say we have the same mental issues - but we do have diff phyical issues - but it doesn't start til 6 p.m and I am such a routine person - work - gym - home and don't know if i want to shower and get dressed again to go out.. I guess I could go all sweaty from the gym:wink2:.

A couple of pre-op questions......help please
IndioGirl55 replied to Grayorm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maddy this is an EXCELLENT point - love this way of thinking.. Truly the longer you do this the less you miss all that junk you use too eat - at least that's the way it has been for me - I eat healthy 98% of the time and once and a while I allow myself a small treat.. Grayom - Each doc has diff preop diets - mine was oatmeal - shake - Soup - and some yummy portein bars After surgery it will take a week or so for your appeitite to return - but yes you will be hungry at times- depending on your doctor you will be on full liquids (includes cream soups) for 10 or 14 days - then move to mushies for the same amount of time then soft then regular - you most likely will be instructed to eat 1/2 cup of food per meal - here in the US most doc's don't fill till 6 weeks post-op Hunger - there is real hunger and head hunger - i can eat and be full no longer really hungry - but still want to eat - us fat people don't really know what hungry is (IMHO) we eat more with our brains than we do with our tummys - they are banding your tummy not your brain and imho i think most of our problems lie there The band is not the magic cure to your issues with food - the band helps 25% of the time once you have proper restriction and the other 75% is up to you - you control the quality and quainity of foods you eat - only you can do the exercise that is needed to lose weight - the band is only a piece of plastic in your tummy - Once you have made up your mind to make the lifetime lifestyle change in your eating habits (low fat - sugar free) and add exercise in your life - it's a breeze - at least for me it has been. But I have finally realized that I want to live - I feel 1 million times better than I did 6 months ago - I am proof that the band works as long as you do the work too. As far as you MIL cooking - once you are cleared from your post op diet you can have some - just not as much - and it depends on what she cooks - some of us can eat bread - some can't - some can eat chicken - some can't - it's a trial & error - eat slowy chew chew chew - and I can eat most thing if I follow the banders rules. Good Luck on your journey - -
Karri Sorry to hear you are still sick :cool2: - chicken soup - I swear by it - but home made.. I am so glad 98% of the time that I don't have a BF or DH to have to deal with (I think I am the only single gal - no chim & dini are single too - so will say the only older single gal in our group) and I am proud of you for going to your party anyway - I would have just stayed home him most likely - well I guess it really would depend on the sitiuation -my x-dh was too controlling could go anywhere by myself .. execpt to the store etc.. I am glad that Phyl is going too to the support group - at least I will know someone - Pam the other girl I know from here and is another Dr Bobby patient isn't going - but I think her friend is - but I only met her once prior to being banded - this is my 1st banded support group meeting - so will see how it goes - knowing me I am going to try and run it  you guy know what a big mouth i am - always spouting off my ideas and thoughts ...:huh2: It will be very interesting to say the least... Well better get a few more things done... Talk to ya'll later

Don't you just hate that - I usually go shopping by myself - I think I am pretty good judge - sometime I can dress too old - Stacy & Clinton would be telling me I wear my stuff too baggy (we not so much now adays) - I do have one gf who would be honest - another one who still thinks she's a teenager half the time - but she is getting better - she is dressing her age. When she shops - she thinks to herself - would Janet approve - I am the fashion police too - BUT IN MY DEFENSE - everyone ask me for makeup - hair & fashion advice so I can't be too bad  -
Linda - Thanks!!!!! But I got you all fooled - I am just a regular person high school education with some bacularete classes for my certificates in Insurance -- i can be a rotten little scoundler - I can talk to the President but Cuss like a salior Good to hear your son did see the light - I firmly beleive that all you can do is your best and the rest is up to them - they will see the light eventually - No rotten tomatoes - We aren't perfect 100% we are normal and that is normal - when I was too tight I ate 1/2 c dairy free Ice Cream with nestle quick on top (choc powder over vanila ice cream) - If you are too tight you do need to get calories in somehow - you gotta live. Ok gang - how about Meeting in Chicago this Summer - the April people are meeting in Tx - River Walk I think in May - for like Friday & Saturday Sunday.. To bad we don't have a travel agent among us... I think it would be so cool to get together - we can't cruise during the summer cuz of storms - but we could meet at one hotel and hang out ..... Steph My GS does better in smaller classes - he needs the attention... I am glad to hear that you are their for your kids - they will remember that when they get older Glad to hear you had a nice night w/family - yes sometimes we just need to slow down.. Lunches do suck - take your own - I cooked extra fish last night (ya i know ya'll going to think i am going to turn into one big fish as much as i eat it:tongue:) So that I would have lunch for a few days - but my GS ate 3 servings last nite so only have 2 days for lunch.. Well back to the grindstone - have support group tonite - 1st one just for banders - Phyl is going too - so I will be seeing her - it's not over til 8 so doubt if I will be on tonite - but know I will ck back before I go this afternoon. Think about meeting up someplace this summer - it would be a blast...

Carol - Yes you will dance (really dance) at your Son's wedding - as to fills - each doc is different just like everything else - my 1st fill i felt immediately and it was good for about 3 weeks - called and moved my appointment up - that fill took about 2 weeks to fully settle and was good - I got another fill in Janurary too tight - had almost all taken out but .02 cc - I am perfect now. Your fills will depend on your doc - ask him - If 2 weeks after your fill you aren't feeling it - call your doc and make another appointment. I ate more than the one cup food too - but mostly only veggies at night - during the day at work I can over look my hungry - I bring my lunch and only eat that - but dinner at home is diff - If I was still hungry - I would eat extra veggies not extra rice or protein - just veggies... Ty - this is 50 yrs + thread Besty It's hard for us - do you watch What Not To Wear - friday nites on TLC - I LOVE THIS SHOW I WANT TO BE ON IT... This is where I get all my fashion advice and More magazine - I think it all depends on how it makes you look and how short the top is - women over 35 no more miniskirts and it depend on where you are wearing the outfit - it's hard to tell - I like to have that put together look - I have very classic style (i think). Google fashion for 50 yrs old and see what you come up with - do you have a friend (someone like me who is very honesty:tongue:) who would tell you if the outfit looked good or not.. Well gotta get to work - ck back later....
