Ruby - Glad to hear you are feeling better . From what I have read on this board there are tons of people who cant eat or drink in the mornings. I guess I am lucky - I have 1 to 2 cups of coffee at 5 a.m. - right now I am hungry - will have yogurt & granola - with no problems - The only time I have problems if I eat too fast or don't chew real well even soft foods - Last night with the steak - I had small bites and didn't even eat it all cuz it was too much work. Karri  I hate having car problems :car:- for me that is the worse thing - it cost so much $$$ to get them fixed ... Yep group meetings - I really didn't enjoy it that much I would rather have exercised.. How was the lady you were going to help - what happen there? Who got voted off on BL - I was recording Idol & BB9 and so I had to cancel my BL recording - but heck I stayed up until 10 - and watched Idol so I should have recorded BL

Good Morning Jackie I think it's so funny that us people who did no exercise before are now gym people... I love it - look we have Karri who is running - You're back at the gym - Kari riding her bike - Phyl swimming - Ruby doing her workouts too. We are just a bunch of exercising fools ' That in it's self is a fantastic accomplishment :hurray::biggrin:

Linda - and really to all of you - I wish I could do more than just type some words here - I wish I could give you a hug in person and sit and talk - I don't feel that we can fully explain our love for each other with a few typed words - you can;t see my face - but if you could you would see my true emotions - I wear my heart on my sleeve... Ok group hug:grouphug:. Now for anyone who is too tight - having acid reflux - not eating or drinking go get unfilled IMMEDIATELY - don't wait. You can not risk the health of your bands ...

Jaclkie there are benefits to having kids young - you are still young when they are grown. I had a bf for 8 yrs and he too died from diabetes (I miss him so much - we were a good fit) How funny I can eat rice and others can't - I had steak tonite 1/4 or a little rib eye - 1/3 baked potatoe and about 4 asparagus spear - I only got a walk around my development tonite -cuz when I got home my almost 4 yr GD was here - My GS picked her up from school for his dad and she wanted to come to our house - and wanted to eat - So I stuck around for her cuz she wanted to see her LA LA - so I fixed her dinner and for dessert - OMG she ate 1/2 of my strawberries - then she wanted to go for a walk - so I got dressed again and we went to a walk - maybe just over a mile - so i don't feel too bad as I did get some exercise in - tomorrow is another day - and memories are what life is made of - so I got to spend time with my baby and got a little exercise - best of both world... Well it's late - Idol is on - will ck back in the morning Sweet Dreams everyone Linda - again Hugs - Hugs Hugs and kept us posted - you can do this Karri - Let us know how your group went.. Phyl - hope you are having fun w/your son - and maybe your neighbor will be back sooner since we aren't suppose to have great weather this week or weekend. xoxox Janet

Linda - I am here with you and your bloody mary - infact I need a refill.. I am so sorry to hear about this complication. ((hugs)). I just looked at your ticker and OMG you have lost 92 frickin pounds - YOU HAVE DONE EXCELLENT - you have learned some new behaviors and you are older now and know that you must keep eating healthy - We will all pray that the unfill will settle your band back in place. I wish I had the words to comfort you right now - all we can do is wait and see what the doc says - and we are all with you in spirt - so don't forget that - We love you and you know the power of prayer - so know that we are all praying for you.. And why wouldn't insurance cover this - you have a health issue that needs to be taken care of.. Now were is my drink - tomorrow we will be back on the band wagon- Keep up posted.... (((hugs - hugs - hugs)))

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Denise - Sorry about all that is on your shoulders right now - I took care of my parents before they died 16 yrs ago - So I understand ((Hugs)) to you. How cool that you got to meet Carol in person - I have gotten to meet Phyl cuz she winters here in the Desert and when we met it was like we have known each other for years - since we knew each other from here and we are both lucky #7 - I would love to meet everyone here - to bad they don't have one big convention where we could all meet... I know you will be glad to get home - it's nice to be away - but great to get back home to your own routine... Carol - my 1st fill I felt right away - but was gone by week 3 - 2nd fill - got home had soup for dinner (i have to revert to post op diet after a fill) and said what the heck - I don't feel any diff - well my the time I moved to mushies/soft -I could tell I had restriction 7-10 days after fill - I don't know why it takes this long - but just like everything - the band is a fickle thing - tight for some in the morning - for me it's not - As far as feeling full - I eat until I am full (which can be 1/2 -to 1 full cup of food and I feel it on the top of my tummy not the bottom - Yesterday and today for lunch I ate 1/2 of a sandwich - I was full - That's why I love the 50 thread - we all have the same issues and they aren't always pretty - and we call all relate to feeling 20 in our head and that person in the mirror isn't the same person in our minds eye... Brenda - Mine is the little red thingie on the turkey - where my double chin use to be - the bottom of my neck isn't bad - Boob - ya gotta understand I was a 34 small B = fatness made me a 42 D - they are deflated ballons - but the funny part is - I am now a 36 D - so i got these floppy dog ears..
  8. That would be up to your shrink & insurance - might be a problem but since I'm neither can't state for certain - Throwing up can cause the band to slip - so the 2 don't go together well...
  9. IndioGirl55

Kari - When I 1st joined LBT - the over 50 gang drilled into me that this was just a tool - that it was up to me to make changes in my eating -so I knew going in that this wasn't the magic cure to my food issues - I am so grateful to those ladies - Green BJean Dynomini come to my brain 1st.. I have a friend who had bypass and she has kept the weight of and I think she is 2 yrs out now - I am pretty sure that she has changed - haven't seen her in a while - but at the last party - she did eat more food than we can eat at one time. They just don't absorb their calories were we do... No imho 66 lbs in 2 yrs is not a big amount of weight to lose.. Just think what she would have lost had she changed her eating - My doc says that I am losing like a bypass - and you are right there with me 71 LBS CONGRATULATION !!!!! We are making lifetime lifestyle changes - we are the real winners and we know that to win - it takes hard work - we are doing the work and we have every right to be proud and bragg Jackie glad to hear you are doing 100% better today - Congrats on the gym. When do you guys start school??? Our schools start the 1st Tuesday after labor day and get out mid june - here in the desert - we NEVER have a snow day OMG you are only 34 - you are still so young - your best years are ahead of you and you have half the battle with your kids done... I was 30 with a 15 yr old... But its sure nice to spend time with them - I miss that - once they get 16 - not around as much Jackie - ((Hugs)) Rant all you want...

Karri - I agree with Ruby - Maybe you only need to meet a couple of times and then invite her here - I think we have the VERY BEST group on this whole board (just ask Steph - and look I forget you are really an Aug bander - you are a Lucky #7 in my mind) and you can go to your monthly support groups with her - It will reinforce all the good that you have done - you will see that you have been successfull and it will help you in return Ruby - You are so right - I feel that in helping others I help my self - make me accountable...

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Carol - FYI it can take up to 2 weeks for fill to settle in ... Exercise IS key I use to HATE IT - now just a mild dislike - can't say I love it - but I do love the weight loss and besides my eating healthy 98% of the time - I truly think exercise has been a big part of my succeess... 2bthinagn - the age thing is/can be fasle - I have done quite well in my weight loss almost as good as they young ones - i have a band daughter who's 28 was banded in Aug and I think she is like 5 lb a head of me - so us 50+ girls can do it too... Age is just a number - and I will tell you that I feel 10 yrs younger and even the younger ones are having problems like us with the saggy skin... That God for clothes and shape wear - and plastic surgeons... Notmzperfect - There is one lady at my Doc's office who is 6 month out and never had a fill .. Not everyone has to get them as often as other.. Congrats on 38 lbs - you are doing great CN - Bat Wings on arms & inner thighs- start of a trukey neck - doggies ear for boobs - Well I did this for health and to look better too - and as long as I am clothed - I look pretty damn good for an old broad

How is weight loss for people over 50?

My lucky #7 (July 07) banders have their exercise on their signature - we strive for 20 days out of the month - as of yesterday I have execised 11 days so far this month - My exercise is the treadmill - and I have walked 33 miles so far this month.. 11/20 - 33 miles Makes sense now:tongue2:
  14. IndioGirl55

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Karri - Great NSV 1.25 miles - if I can jog for 1/10 of a mile I am happy - I can say that I have increased my incline to 4 -5-6 and I feel good at that and have increased my mileage to 3.5 - will do that for a couple of week then push it up to 4. I feel the same way about support group in person - why - I have all the support i need right here and it's open 24/7 and I don't have to drive anywhere. Ours is lapband only - and the one we had the 1st of Feb was ok - I got a little out of it but not much - and it make a long day for me and I miss my exercise - so I may go in March if Phyl goes just to see her. As far as being out spoken like me - so what these people need a reality check - I think the lady you are going with may benefit from some counseling - There is no shame in it - not everyone can do it on their own and they may have deeper issues that need the help of a professional - I guess for some of us the whole serious issue of having surgery was what we needed to finally get it - I really think that alot of people who have the surgery be it bypass or band - really think in the back of their minds that the surgery alone will take care of their food issues and weight problems - As WE ALL KNOW THAT'S NOT TRUE - WE HAVE TO DO THE WORK... Yes just saying thank you is so hard - I have been doing it though - I love it.. Ruby Glad to hear you are doing so much better and had a good time with your son - I totally agree to take it easy for a day or 2... Ok - I started this an hour ago - phone keeps ringing - just found out another gf just went to Mex - Dr Oritz and got banded she called to ask questions... Well phone is ringing again - will ck back later..

Linda you have been a busy girl - i am tired just reading it... Ya you really do need to go to the doctor you should be able to sleep and drink and eat. You worked too?? Keep us posted.. Hugs to you... Yep we do have great winter - but ugly summers - but I will take the heat over the snow anyday... [quote=BlueEyedBaby;728417]Hey guys...just lurking. Not much going on... Holiday? What holiday? You mean ppl actually get President's day off? I just thought that was an excuse for the furniture stores and car dealerships to have sales. I have never gotten this holiday off. Even the city goverments here still worked. Interesting... Well, the only news I have on my end is I lost 1 lb as of this morning...and AF is visiting so it is probably even more (positive thinking here). Yay!! One more plateau defeated. Janet, do I remember you saying that you had hit your first plateau recently? Man, that must be nice. I hit a plateau every time I loose. I loose a pound or 2 then plateau, then loose 3 then plateau, then...well, you get the idea. My 2 cents on housekeeping. I HATE IT!! That's why I have a couple housekeepers routinely. But I have always hated housekeeping. Ok for someone who had nothing to say, I have said a whole lot. Nite ya'll~~~~~~ Katrina - I thought the whole USA had today off - It's Washington Bday (well now they combined the 2 lincoln & washington -but schools still get off for both last monday and this monday) Our city governments are closed banks etc - plus right now we have the National Date Festival (Indio is the date capital of the world & my Dad was a Date Grower) and today was parade day.. House keeping - I am ok - my house is clean - but it could be cleaner - I don't do windows - my blinds need cleaning and window sills too - but who cares I have life to live - Oh ya Need to dust - but I have life to live too - I am VERY LUCKY my GS is a good little cleaner - Well, it's late almost 8 - gotta get ready for tomorrow See ya'll in the morning - sweet dreams

Karri - I agree with you most meeting are pointless - out of the whole thing you may have 10 minutes where something important was discuss.. Sorry you have to work.. What a bummer.. and you worked last monday too - OMG our kids had both Lincoln & Washingtons bday off - I would trade with you - well, maybe not - I am glad to have the day off... but need to get in gear - it's 9:30 done with the gym - I think I will have some eatbeater and get ready for the day... Ruby Glad to hear that you are feeling better today - soup sounds good I am hungry :tt2: - I think your plan for the day is a good one - take it slow and easy - sunshine and a slow walk

Rise & Shine It's a Beautiful Morning.. Am I the only person up this early on a holiday? My fur baby wakes me up to go potty and since I have had enough sleep - I get up !!! Oh the difference between 7 months ago and now - Energy... But the problem is what to do with all this energy - Well this morning I will be off the the gym. Yesterday was the 1st time I have eaten 1200 calories in ages... I had some cookies and milk 230 calorie last night - Maybe it will break my plateau... (don't you love my way of thinking = excuse - fat girl brain :tt2:) You want to know something - in the past I would have eaten and eaten those cookie - but last night after 4 cookie (the size of silver dollar) and the milk (i never drink milk but was cravng it) I was full and satisfied. I gotta find something to do that's fun today - I gotta quit shopping - I am going to be in the poor house soon - I could clean out my garage  but that's not fun - I could mop the floors - but that's not fun.. Maybe I will go buy some flowers for the back yard and plant them. OK just wanted to say GOOD MORNING - will ck back later..

    Band vs. Gastric Bypass

I totally understand we all have to do what's best for us - I wish you the best on this journey...

Does anyone else feel like this....

KKG I understand where you are coming from - this is why I say that 75% of the work is up to you and the band does the other 25% I eat healthy 98% of the time and exercises 4-5 days a week - I still get hungry between meals - I don't find that the band takes away my hunger - i have never forgotten to eat - I am doing most of the work - the band does help me feel full faster - but I am no longer eating tons of fried foods - I am no longer a slug bug - who sits on her butt all day at work and would come home and continue being a slug bug... I call my band my interior motivator. Ya if I had done this prior to the band - I would have lost weight - I had done this a million times before - but always gained it back plus some - and the band is no guarentee that I won't but I can say once you have proper restriction it does help you feel full on 1 -2 cups of food per meal - where as with out the band that was 4 - 6 cups of food per meal.. But I choose what I put in my mouth not the band - I choose to go to the gym not the band - so hell ya - I'm doing the work not the band - it's just my little tool..
  22. IndioGirl55

    Fruits

Peek - alot of people are atkins so they watch their carbs - I follow weight watcher eating plan - as I find it a well rounded balance eating plan that includes all the things that i like to eat. I eat bananas - by themselves or cut up in my yogurt - I eat pears, peaches, apples, plums - (you gotta chew the skin really good or cut it off) the only fruit that has given me any problems are oranges and thats the stringy tissue arount the actual furit (don't know what you call it) but i just chew up the orange and then spit that striny stuff out.

    Band vs. Gastric Bypass

Msmommy I can't answer your question with fact about cost of bypass vs band - but assume that it would be more due to the fact that there is more involved cutting your tummy and intestines. I think my doc requires 2 nite with bypass. Fills aren't that bad - my doc does blind fills (you drink Water after he inflates band with the saline) vs fluro where you drink baruam (sp) and they watch it under xray go thru your pouch My doc gives you a numbing shot - the 1st time it took him a bit to find the soft spot in my port - but I was numb didn't fill a thing. The next fill was easier cuz he marked on my chart where the port was - Well this last fill - I have lost quite a bit of weight and the skin/scar from where the port was inserted has dropped (saggy skin) the port now is above the scar not in the middle of - which is typical after losing weight - but again he numbed me and found the port pretty quickly. I chose the band cuz I didn't want my intestines re-routed and I didn't want the malnutrion issues that you have with bypass -this is why weight lost is so fast cuz you don't absorbe your calories where witht the band we do- I didn't want the dumping syndrome either - this is where you get phyically sick when you eat sugar. I am not a hugh sweet eater but I do like my sweets - I wanted protion control cuz that was my problem - They say that the band is slower weight - but that's not nessessarily true - I have lost 73 lbs in 7 months - My doc says that I am losing weight like a bypass patient - I am losing weight cuz I eat healthy 98% of the time and I exercise 4-5 days a week. I think that I have hit my 1st plateau - but that's ok - 7 monts and up until this last week I have lost weight - even during the holidays - I LOVE MY BAND - I LOVE ME FOR DOING THE WORK. I feel 10 yrs younger.. Best of luck to you on your journey

Ruby - Sorry you are so sick - someone said Ice Chips - try that and call your doc - the flu is going around and just heard that for those of us who You can just get a tad taken out - you gotta be able to drink water... Hope you feel better soon - keep us posted. xoxox J Karri - I read it that she had 2 bites and not sure but later 2 pieces and that's why told son to get the cake out of the house. But as we said - even if we have 2 or 4 pieces of cake it's not the end of the world - we just haveto get up ans dust our butts off and march forward - just like the little train that could - see all you need to know about life you learned in kindergarden Kari Hemet is close to us - about 60 miles west of us about 30 miles west of Beaumont.. - it's between us and San Diego it you take the 79 - you go thru Hemet if you are going over the hill to San Diego - It's sort of the mountains really more like high desert-cooler than us here in the desert cuz they are a little higher and warm like here in the winter - and it use to be a big retirement place but it has grown alot - they have a casino Soboba that my MIL loves to go too. - Well I am bored to tears tonite - it's 8 now - so safe to eat - I just spend $65 buck on a pair of custom ordered jeans from QVC - we will see how they fit - I got on the computer cuz I am so bored that i didn't want to eat - now I am stracing - ttyl
