CONFESSIONS:who has cheated and ate junk food
IndioGirl55 replied to NOlanebryant's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Pizza isn't a slider food by any means - I can eat it but very slowly, small bites and chew chew chew. I have had it maybe 3 times in the last 8 months - it's not something I do on a weekly basis.. Silder foods ie = ice cream candy milkshake cookie chips cracker as for each person having diff one - I can't say for certain - but each person does have their own demons with these foods that do slide thru so easliy... I learned the term at my support group meeting - got say that's about all I did learn I would say that lbt & my months group has provided me with 24/7 support and info - why waste gas and time going to a meeting - but I am giving it one more try.. Brandy - the band does take will power - it makes having it easier imho - but you just gotta make up your mind that you aren't going to expose yourself to your demon foods - if you do fall - pick yourself up by the boot straps and start over - you can do this - -
Phyl it's on page A16 :scared2: Your DH would just love that wouldn't he  Hey Kristen - I to am headed for the couch - I showered dressed and to go get a nair repair  just had then done yesterday - but somehow a corner broke.. Did that and stopped at rite aide need some reading spec and great NSV - I bought 2 little sundresses $9.99 each for around the house - haven't done that in years - they usually don't carry plus sizes.. Oh ya - confession too - but remember it's my breakfast & lunch - I had a rocky road single dip ice cream cone :tt2::tt2::tt2::tt2::tt2: about 270 calorie so that's not too bad since that is all i have eaten today:lol::sad: and i never made it to the gym either - bad lazy girl  but tomorrow is training day so I will be there for sure  Jackie - they (the piercers) know what they are doing and where to put it. So maybe i will talk you into it when we are in MN  Yep food and people pigging you - what can we say - ya we use to be just like them - and tons heavier - now we are smart and tons lighter:lol::lol: Ok i think I am off to the couch - and see what's on the boob tube and reading... So will ck back later -

Denise OMG you and I are really alike - Yesterday I tried on 2 size 12 dresses - and I just could not beleive that that was my body in the mirror - I looked like a skinny chick!!! My tummy isn't too bad either - It's the arms that are the worst - I could have 4 inches taken off each and would then have little arms.. I think I may look into that surgery - My neck has a little gobbler thing but it's little not a major concern yet..

Yep PrivateDancer - we are almost neighbors :scared2: !!! Welcome to LBT - it's a great support site.. I am here every day - 2 -3 -4 times a day.. -
Tat's are age appropriate - I have one got it when I was 43 (since I have had long pants or nylons on when you have seen me you haven't seen it) and my nose pierced when I was 50. I have always loved the little diamond look in the corner of the nose - but always thought I was too old too fat to get one - then one of our marketing reps came in with done- she is thin but my age - I said what the heck - I am not too old I am not too fat - this is what I want - I am doing it - so I did it !!! You are never too old to do something you have always wanted to do - in fact imho it's your right and duty to make yourself happy. We are never too old or fat or whatever - as long as it's not hurting anyone else who gives a flying * - it's your life to do with as you please... My boss hated my nose piercing infact I knew he would hate it as we have discussed it for yrs - one xmas I glued a crystal on my nose and told him I got it pierced.. I love bugging him !!!! Linda - you can get a sun and I can get a palm tree - wouldn't that be just to funny - the over 50 gang going in to a tattoo shop - getting tat's they would just crack up... That really would be a site:lol::lol: Sounds like you did so good at the wedding -ya the younger generation tennies and tux - I am just too tradtional for that  Well good morning Gang I am still reading the paper - drinking coffee - I slept til 8:15 a.m. and I am not rushing anything today.. I think I will try and hit the gym cuz i didn't go yesterday - but who knows. My muscles are still a little sore - so I am still burning those calories  I know excuse  get your butt in gear Janet and just do it... Well, I gotta finish the paper 1st.. Oh ya - I was in the paper today !!!! well I was quoted - the city of indio wants to annex some more land and the reported called me (I had written a letter to the editor a long time ago when 2 developers were suing each other - stopping the progress of getting retail (my super target) in my neighborhood) So now this reporter calls me when she want's a local person opinion of what the city is doing to our town.. "Lifelong Indio resident Janet Wright-Pimentel says she is happy to hear the city is doing some long-range planning. The 53-year-old has seen the evolution of the desert and says there is more to come. She just hopes current residents aren't forgotten in the process. "It's a good and bad thing. You miss the small town feel, but you can't stop progress," she said." Well back to my paper - will ck back later..

Cathy What the 50+ gang told me when I first got here was the band was only a tool - they told me that I would have to do the work - but with the band the work was eaiser than not having it - I knew going into this that it was not the magic cure to my issues with food (you would not beleive how many ppl here think that it is - that with the band they will loose all desire to eat) thats not true - it does help curb your hunger - but our hunger is mostly in our brains. Also, we are going thru major freakin surgery - this is our last chance and alot of work goes into to getting banded.. Just know that we are here for you - keep us posted ..

CONFESSIONS:who has cheated and ate junk food
IndioGirl55 replied to NOlanebryant's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do not consider myself dieting - diets don't work - eating healthy does - I count calories & Protein grams - as a learning tool - cuz as a fat person what I considered a serving size was enough to feed 10 people not one - I didn't know that in 1 oz of meat you have 7 grms of protein - and my doc wants me to have a mini of 60 grms per day - so if I dont count - how will I know - by the time I get to goal - I think I will have a pretty good handle on what is a normal serving size and then I won't need to keep my food diary - but until then I will - I eat like a normal person - I eat pizza - I have a piece of cake - but not every day - and not in the quanities that I use to eat I haven't tried to eat a bag of Cookies or chips - but have been told they are slider foods (slip right thru the band - just like ice cream & milkshakes) -
Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
IndioGirl55 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey there Loralei & JJ Welcome to LBT and the 50+ gang... As to the pre-op diet - I was lucky only had 7 days of it - but during that 7 days I had to do my colonoscopy so that was one day clear liquids and cleansing  and the day before surgery was clear liquids - I was allowed one small meal - meat - salad - oatmeal for bf & soup or shake for lunch - and oh ya some great protein bars for snacks - so all in all mine wasn't too bad - My doc supplied the shakes, soups & protein bars - and I had 4 oz fish & salad for dinner.. Post op I was on full liquids for 10 days then mushies for 10 then soft for 10 and finally regualr - ck out the food thread there are great ideas there. You will find the longer you are on this site that EVERY Doc is diff in what he tells his patients - some have no pre op some have it for a freakin month - some have liquids for 2 days after surgery and move right to reg food. 1st if all you need to follow your doctors orders - the reason for the liquid is that they stiched your stomach around the band and they don't want that distrubed until it's all healed up - and digesting food make the stomach move so the band can slip and you don't want this. On full liquids I was allowed sf pudding fudgecicles creamed soups of course protein shakes - dannon light & fit yogurt to name a few - I found that potatoes soups were a lifesaver for me - you can find them in by the instant mashed potatoes or soup section. Also homemade broth is so much better than canned or boxed - I found homemade soups the best. I make what I call cream of pinto bean soup - make a pot of pinto beans just like you normally would - after they have cooked spoon out the beans and put them in the blender and puree them - then add them back to the broth - wohla cream of pinto bean soup - you can do the same with navy beans or any bean you like - since you are both in the 50+ club I assume you cook (the younger ones now a days don't - they got fat on fast food - where as I got fat on home cooked foods) The band is a great tool - but that's all it is - it does require will power - the will power to be committed to making a lifetime lifestyle change in your eating habits -(low fat - sugar free - low carb) and adding some kind of exercise into your life (phyl who post here - has bad knees - she does water arobics) Me personally I follow a Weight Watcher type eating plan as I feel its the most balanced - you budget your calories/points for the foods you want to eat. I could never be an atkins girl - I have to have some carbs. I keep a food diary - it is statistically proven that people who do - do better in their weight lost - it's real easy to forget this bite of this or that... I count calories & protein grams - I go to the gym 4 days a week I eat healthy 98% of the time and allow 2% of my eating for treats - not cheat - I am not dieting - I am just eating healthy - I won't always keep my food diary - once I get to goal - I will quit -but the second I gain 5 lbs - I will start logging my food again - Once I get to goal - I will never and yes I mean never allow more than a 5 lbs weight gain - I will never again say oh it's just 5 lbs - then next month - oh its just another 5 lbs no biggie - well before you know it - you are 250 again:eek: Ok - I guess i have lectured enough  don't mean to sound preachy - but I LOVE MY BAND - I LOVE ME FOR DOING THE WORK - I FEEL 10 YRS YOUNGER.. -

CONFESSIONS:who has cheated and ate junk food
IndioGirl55 replied to NOlanebryant's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with Grace - I don't buy the junk - I don't eat the junk Why - I got banded to get healthy not to continue like I was I made easter baskets for my 3 grandkids - I kept 2 reese pb eggs for me (they are my fav too) total 160 calories - so I budgeted for them. I eat healthy 98% of the time and allow 2% for treats but I budget my calories to allow for those treats. So I don't have cheats. Plus I exercise 4 days a week. For me the Holidays are no longer about the food - but being with family food isn't as important to me as it use to be - especially high fat high calorie foods - I count calories & pt grms - I want reall food for those 200 - 300 calorie meals - not 1 or 2 bites of a cheese cake. I love the way I feel - I love the way I look - I don't want to ever go back to 250 lbs - and I will if I start eating junk again.. So my choice has been no indulge too often or too much - plus for me the junk doesn't taste as good as it use to either.. -
Boricua61 - Congrats on your band - as far as being hungry - some are some aren't the longer you are on this site you will find that we all are different - day 5 i think i was a little hungry - on day 6 I was back to work - I remember going out for lunch w/gf on day 7 or 8 had a small Soup from Togo's and don't think I finished it - but was hungry when I started but got full fast. Your portsite will most likely hurt/discomfort for about 2-3 weeks (it's been 8 months for me so I can give you exacts as I really don't remember) I found that I had to wear dresses or loose waisted pants otherwise my port hurt - It's above my wasit by 3 or 4 inches. I was banded in July and live in the Desert - so can't relate to sweat shirts but can tell you this winter i was colder than I use to be - I don't have as much insullation that I use to - to keep me warm.. This is the best site for support and info - read read read. Welcome to bandland !!!

Phyl Age appropriate doesn't go for underwear :w00t: It was nice here for a while - but the winds have picked up again - I HATE THE WIND - I know those are very strong words but I do.. I have to have the a/c on cuz we can't open doors.... Ya let's get little hearts wit the #7 in them  or a red/white/blue 7:thumbup:

Peaches I have a little bowl I got at Target (do you have targets in Canada?) it's exactly 1 cup - I eat out of that and like you I use a sandwich plate and I use condiment size spoon & fork ... I haven't eaten off a big girl plate in a long long time now... -

Lessofme - Tickerfactory.com is where we get our ticker and they have a graph too... Thin & Lynn - I was able to get in maybe 800 to 1000 calories post op - I didn't have this 2 or 4 oz rule - my rules were 60 grms of Protein I could eat about 1 cup of food - and as stated before for me mentally that's the minimum amount that I want to eat per meal - I ususlly have may be 2 cups the 2nd cup being veggie - 1st cup fish & rice - Weight control oatmeal 7 grms pt 160 calories lunch was usually Soup 200 calories 10 grms pt Clear protein Drink 70 c 15 grms pt 2 sf puddings 120 calories 6 grms pt 1 healthy choice sf fudgecicly 80 calories 3 grms pt 1 cup Beans with cheese 300 c - 15 grms pt String cheese 50 calories 5 grms pt 980 calories - 61 grms of protein For me my calorie budget s Breakfat is about 100 to 200 Lunch 200 - 300 dinner 300 - 400 Snacks 300 (3x100) Some days i may eat 900 - next day 1200 - it varies - I don't eat the same exact calories every day I used unjury Protein powder 20 grms of pt and 100 calories -so by the time you add the milk its 220 for a shake also each ounce of meat has 7 grms of protein. Add some sf yogurt to your shakes 5 grms pt 60 calories (dannon light & fit) add furit - Peanut Butter - you can boost the calories and vit by adding diff stuff I'm with Denise - I usually eat between 1000 to 1200 calories a day.. and I have lost weight every week except one - and I stayed even that week. Also, once you have been released from your doc - you need to start exercising... -
Hey gang you all look like you have been busy since this morning.. Ok I went and got gray covered - nails & toes done - tanned - went Stein Mart again - only bought a pair of capri's - but did try on 2 dresses that were size 12 - my body is changing - before I couldn't get into a 14 dress even thought i was wereing 10/12 pants - Looked really good but didn't love them and told myself you got 19 lbs to go so just wait.. I am a pure size 10 pants:tongue: - I just can't beleive my body - the only thing is my arms - they would be so much smaller if i didn't have these bat wings - I think I really might go see a p.s. about them - whats the use of being thin with FAT arms that look like SH*T.. My tummy and legs aren't great but not super bad and they are covered - I would like to wear some of these sleeveless summer dresses and here in the Desert it is so much cooler with less clothes in the summer.. Karri - I was just thinking about you before I got on the computer - I was wondering about you & the getting on the scale all the time - No rings ? OMW you don't take after your band mommy in that department - I LOVE JEWELRY  Also shocking you and waffles - you go girl you are changing your mindset.. Peaches - Linda's right my incision site/scar is now about 1 or 2 inches below my actual port. How are you feeling today?? Good I hope... If you want a tattoo - get it some place else - heck I have a sun on my ankle and my nose is pierced (tiny diamond) see Karri I even have jewelry in my nose :w00t:... I am a 53 yr youngster.. Linda - You gotta post some picutes !!! We really want to see what 100 lbs gone looks like... I bet you look Hot in that skirt & heels - Hope you have a good time.. Kari - If you could get a buddy pass that would be so cool - I wish I had a friend who worked for the airlines  Apple2 - No problem - we aren't going to kick you out - Peaches - Phyl and I know your name from the 50ths thread - it's no biggie - we aren't snobs - you can post if you want to... We are a freindly bunch - but beware on this thread we have 2 food cops (me & salsa) and we give tough band love too (I do that on the 50 thread too) - We are all about support & friendship - we are real and tell it like it is ...

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
IndioGirl55 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Carol - I use sandwich plates not regular dinner plates - but I too hate leaving food behind - why it's not like we don't know where our next meal is coming from - it's like we think we are going to strave - we aren't in a 3rd world country where we don't know when we are going to get our next meal from... OMW we are so spoiled - plus we were all brought up on the clean plate club - don't waste there are straving children in Africa.. Conditioning... These are the reason - part of it is the whole waste thing - but you just gotta say "better in thee (trash) than in me" Lynn I think we all inhaled our food prior to being banded - we shovelled it in. But you are doing good with being conscouis about when where and how your a eating - that's what you have to do.. Don't be afaird of the mushies - you are going to do great cuz you are thinking about your choices and are wary - we all need to be wary of food - we have to be careful not to let it control us - we have to control it.. Denise - I want to eat the least amount of calories possible but still want the most amount of food for those calories - I am still a mentally a volume eater (low calories but still volume)- my band prevents me from over doing it Carol 4784 Welcome - this is a great site for support and info i am lucky I could still have my coffee (1 or 2 cups daily) .. -
Good Morning Gang Well I am up - I'm tired & sore - suppose to go to the gym but I don't think I am - I will go tomorrow instead - I just don't have the energy - I have hair appointment @ 9 so just getting ready for that will take about all the energy I have - I tivo'd the dateline thingie last night watched bits but I was in bed like 9:30 ish - this cold/sinus thingie is still hanging on.. Ok Jackie - I am on your right shoulder today - I am whispering in your ear - do you really want that devil food - come on now you know it really doesn't taste as good as you think it will - oh look there is some carrots over there - I'll take that - it's crunchy... Oh but theres that piece of cake - Ok I just have to have a taste - so I am going to use Phyl's 3 bite rule and I will count those calories against my total for the day - so do I want to waste 100 calories on 3 bites or do I want something else.. Restriction is good/bad - last night I could only eat 1/2 c of my dinner - then during the night (midnite raid) got some sf pudding - ate it too fast and pb'd on it - will I ever learn that I don't need that one more bite just cuz it taste good  As far as giving hints - I know last yr I told my family I wanted a bike - but did i get it - nope - I haven't gotten one for myself yet - cuz really we do have a small window of time to use it. It's too dark during the winter when I get home from work and summer it's too hot - but I do have the weekends and right now (except today it's too windy) excuses - I still have a pocket full of them... For those of you who can afford a Trainer - I would highly suggest it - my legs are nice and sore today and as we all know from Karri's PE teachers dissertation on exercise - muscle burns more calories - it also makes your bones stronger - I have been doing the crossword in my Woman's World magazine - I like it it's pretty easy - I like it when I can complete the whole crossword puzzle - and that is a rarity... Well - gotta go put towels in the dryer - will ck back later

IndioGirl55 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Carol - this is a process - and some days I still feel that way - oh come on band just one more bite - I want that one more bite - yes I am full but i want to taste that food - I want to eat.. That's why I am always saying that I don't want to be so tight that I can only eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food per meal - Mentally I can't handle it - to me you can't live on that small about of food it's not healthy. I have sat and thought are you really hungry or do you just want to eat and it's usually I just want to eat - and you will find out - once you have restriction that - that one more bite is going to cause you to pb - it's never the 1st or second bite but that 3rd or 4th that I have eaten too fast - not chewed or over eaten that will come back up and after that you don't want to eat. It takes time - it takes pratice - we are learning a whole new style of eating and it's not going to happen over night - i am 8 months out and I don't alway listen to my body - i will still try and take that one more bite - but the pain/discomfort afterwards isn't worth it... But I still try - right now as i type I have had 2 bites of my dinner and have a ping pong ball in my tummy - so I will be patient and let it past then try another bite - cuz I was hungry and ate the first 2 bites too fast... So don't feel like the lone ranger - we totally get what you are going through - but I think it's GREAT GREAT GREAT that you are doing the head work to find out why - this whole process is really about the head work cuz that truly where our problems lies - jmho  -
Jackie That was beautiful - Thanks - and your ticker say 78 lbs - you are doing just great - and yes we are so very lucky to have eat other - cuz as i always say only a fat chick can understand another fat chick - even though we are as fat as we once were - I think we will always (or at least for a long time) a fat girls mentallity - so we are always going to need each other. Well, My dinner is done 1 cup shrimp/scallops & grits... See I am a southern girl at heart - I even added some okra cuz I wanted some veggies - I make up my own receipts - Scarlett O'Hara is my idol - I would love to be a southern belle in the old days - but I would have be fisty like Scarlet and OH MY WORD - I would never have let Rhett walk out on me - I never understood her attractin to Ashley - I don't like mousey men - give me Rhett any day
-
Jan It's a little scary - but I can tell you it's the best thing I have ever done for myself - I feel 10 yrs younger - I call my band my interior motivator - I could eat around it if I wanted to -but like you I want to live for a few more yrs - I think it's a 50 yr old thing as we know that we have fewer yrs ahead of us - and we want to squeeze out every additional yr that we can get.. For me it really hasn't been that hard - but I will tell you it's only a tool and you will need to use your will power - by making healthy food choices - adding exercise to your life - but after you have been eating healthy for a couple of months - your cravings for all that junk goes away for the most part - and once you see the weight coming off - you will be doing the happy dance.. Good Luck on this journey - it is a learning experience - but well worth it..

I was there on Wed too - what time was your appointment - mine was 9 a.m. - it was my 2 month ck in - I didn't/don't need a fill but got my blood work done and he took some pictures of me and asked if I would come to a seminar and be an example fof what you can accomplish with the lapband.. I thought of you when I was there and then said ya' she hasn't posted recently - I was going to email you -but just hadn't gotten around to it - you know how that goes I am bad - i don't follow his rules about going back to post op diet for 4 weeks (did though the 1st fill cuz I was nervous)- I usually have soups for 1 or 2 days then mushie/soft - I really don't eat reg food that much - I usually eat fish every night with 1/2 c rice and some veggies - I may have beef once a week and ck every couple of weeks -my daily foods would be consider mushie to soft - except when I go out to lunch and have a taco - I would consider that more regular than soft or mushie. Whens your next appt - mine 5/28 @ 10:15... I love his new office it was the 1st time I had been there - infact I didn't know they had moved :rolleyes2: I knew they were looking into it but - thought they would have sent a mailing letting us know. Are you going to the support group on 4/2 - I think I am - turly I like lbt better as it's open 24/7 and I don't have to drive anywhere - I went to the 1st one didn't go last month - but will give it another try... I got a trainer a couple of weeks ago - I love him - yesterday he worked my butt off -and my legs are sore today... I only have to take Atenenol and its tiny - but I don't like the chewable vitamins that much - I got some petite calicum pills and I can take them with no problem - but one thing I have noticed is I can't swallow pills like I use to - I am thinking about changing to 1 a days - cuz I think they are small - I am bad on the vitiman issue period - it will be interesting to see what my blood work shows. My 1st fill I felt right away - could only eat 1/2 cup of yogurt - but it loosened up after about 2 weeks - my 2nd fill took a bit to settle in but it was excellent - when I got my 3rd it was too much so he had to take out .08 of the 1 cc he had added - so right now I'm at my sweet spot:biggrin: -
OH stupid me thought bl was short for bilateral (sp) whatever the tech name for the arm surgery is... Well I am happy that you are getting the TT & BL (i could use both) - but right now - don't know if I want the pain of surgery again - my boobs were saggy even 80 lbs ago in fact I haven't changed cup size but they are deflated. I'm 53 so even with PS I'm not going to have the body of a 20 yrs old - time will tell - good luck - I am happy for you..
-
Hey there gang - Well, didn't go out for drinks with the office people - ended up going over a gf house and had 1/2 of a bud light - omw do you know that you can slime on beer - it tasted so good I haven't had a beer since Sept (I'm not a big beer drinker but in the summer a nice cold one is really good) but really didn't feel like drinking - so we visited and came home and cleaned up the kitchen - GS refuses to put his dirty dishes in the dish washer - since he does most of the vacumm weekly cleaning I can't really complain too much. I got some scallops & shrimp yesterday - going to go fix something to eat - I am hungry - went to lunch w/girl from work = had 1/2 cup orange chicken - didn't eat the rice at all jsut the ck and now I am hungry.. I might just have the tri tip left overs - I feel like some veggies.. Phyl - if it's snowing why go home = you can't extend your rent on your space for a couple more weeks?? You guys are retired why rush home. Heck I don't think I have a leak detector on my HW heater - might have to go ck that out - but I will be in this house 4 yrs and if I had one - Ithink it would have gone off by now. Candice - Sounds like you are doing really really good - I am so happy for you... I think I have been so lucking in reaching my sweet spot after only 3 fills.. You will love it when you have lasting restriction:tongue: Kari My gf at work dh just retired he's only 56 - she is really worried about the $$ too .. I really hope you can come it would be so great to meet you in person... Ok what happen to Lynette & Chim - I thought they were coming back haven't heard from them today.. Also we havent heard from blooeyeze either lately.. OK well I am hungry it's 8 here - so going to see what there is to fix to eat that's healthy and good - will ck back later..
-
Dave - I didn't have to but I was banded last yr - the doctor's office just had me write down all the diets I have been on - ie weight watchers how much did you lose - Jenny Craig etc - I too tech have 100 lbs to lose but am going for 90 right now - had mild sleep apena & high blood pressure - I would call them and see if they do require the 6 month diet - I read somewhere that was a new requirement - but that could have been another state and BCBS I think can be a tad diff that BC of CA .. Diff plans... Your doc's office should know - mine handel everthing from making all pre-op appointments all I had to so was show up... They know the ropes and how to get things approved. Good Luck
