Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
IndioGirl55 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi DeeDee Welcome - I will try and answer your questions I technally have 100 lbs to lose - but my 1st goal is 90 - for which i am 6.5 lbs shy of obtaining and I had surgery 8 1/2 months ago - The band is a piece of plastic around your stomach which they tighted to make a smaller opening from your new tummy (pouch) to your old tummy - to tighten it they inject salline into your port which goes into tubing that tightend the band around your stomach - Paying for is what ever your doc does - some include 1 yr free fills with the surgery some 6 etc you gotta ask your doc. The band surgery is less invasive as they aren't cutting up your intestine and you don't have the malnutrition issues... Are you still hungry - yep sometimes - sometime I will eat my dinner and will be full - but will stil have the whole head hunger issue telling me I still want to eat... How fast that you lose the weight depends on a few things - you 1st of all you have to make healthy food choices and exercise - the band is only a tool - it's not the magic cure to your issues with food - this and any WLS is a lifetime lifestyle change in your eating - it's not the quick fix I have had 3 fills and a little taken out of the 3rd fill and am at my sweet spot - but there are people here who have had 10 fills and still don't have restriction - Even with the band you must have will power I suggest that you read all you can on this site -good bad and indifferent - and talk to your doc some more - i am surprise he didn't tell you how the band works etc. Only you can make this decision - but I can tell you for me it has been the best thing in my entire life that I did for me - I feel ten yrs younger - My self estem has improved... I am 100% at a whole better place than I was 9 months ago. You can even go to the lapband makers site and learn there too Good Luck on your journey and what ever you decide to due -
Yep Phyl I need to chill - just took my bp and it's 130 over 78 - no bad since I didn't take my bp med last night.. It's just that I have been telling them for YEARS (16 since my parents died) that the $$$ won't be here forever.. My bro could lose his house and become homeless. That's the real problem... But I can't to a damn thing about it - so let it go.. Nothing pisses me off more than to go out to eat and pay good $$ and get sh*tty food.. I enjoy eating (still) and when I eat I want good food. I am hungry right now cuz that 1/2 piece of sushi & 2 bites of fish only really didn't cut it and then I go off and forget my left overs at work - well - I don't think I could have eaten the ca rolls any- well _ I gues I will just have to skip sushi from now on - any way a bit pricey since I can't eat much.. and I dont think they have children menu there:lol: I wish I knew someone with a WII- it sounds like fun.. i would want to try it to see if it's something I would really do - before I laid out that kind of dough Well, I am skipping the gym tonite - i am tired - didn't get to bed until after 11 and am up at 5 - my bro pissed me off - my boss pissed me off (made me go to a meeting that has nothing to do with the types of accounts that I write so total waste of time) so - I am just emotionally drained and beat - haven't had but maybe 100 calories today - so I think I need to have a good healhty dinner and get to bed early so that I canll go in the morning to the gym for sure.. Ok I am going to go ck the fridge - and you don't have to worry - I don't have any dangerous foods in the house only good healthy stuff.. I do know my limitations :cursing: Karri - How did the PS visit go!!! Will ck back chickies...

Here is the truth about the band
IndioGirl55 replied to alysedg23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gadgetlady I don't think kobish is a real person - they were just banded on 2/20 and was eating right afterwards - got a fill on 3/10 (2 weeks later) and ate 3 pieces of pizza saying no restriction- but here they are pbing 2-20 time a day??? Something is fishy in demark!!!! Or i smell a weazle = whatda ya think?? -
Yes - I eat veggies (but I like them soft - not hard) I eat fruit had strawberrys today - Salads no problem I just found out today that I can't eat sushi rice -I eat jasmine rice everynight but tried sushi today - and it just didn't word - it may have been too that I didn't chew well enought either.. You gotta take tiny bites eat slowly and chew chew chew..

Here is the truth about the band
IndioGirl55 replied to alysedg23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kobdish You should NOTbe pbing 2-20 times a day!!!! This is very bad for your band- you can cause your band to slip. You need to eat slowly - tiny bites and chew chew chew. You don't state if you have had a fill or what - but if yu have - i suggest if the above doesn't work that you get a little taken out. -
Congrats on your weight loss - This is a band related site and most banders do optifast as a pre-band diet - but after that we eat regular food - you might want to google Optifast and see if they have a support thread - I think they do - Most of us post in threads for the month we were banded and maybe an age one too - Good luck on your Quest to be healthy

It works - tickers & pbing - signs of newbies - I remember it well - you guys are making me feel like an old timer :cursing: Congrats on the 30 lbs - this is just the begining - you will be surprised at how the weight does come off with the proper food choices & exercise.. Glad you are feeling better. I guess I must have healed exceptionally well - I was back to work on day 6 Lynn - Congrats on the additional 10 - like I said above - you will be surprise at how the weight does come off with the help of our tool. Have a great weekend... -
The problem is that we are only half owners - the other half is my dad's partners kids - they don't want to sell. We had an offer right before the market went to hell in a hand basket - but No the GREEDY other half did not like the offer - who knows if we had agreed on a price that the sell would have gone thru - it was just at the start of the real estate down fall. He is talking about subdiving which cost $$ and he doesn't have a pot to piss in and when I asked how we would pay the $$$ back he said when it sold.. STUPID no one is buying property right now... This is my little bro - my other bro die in 99 he was 43 and my last word with him were an agrument too - you see my bro's lived on ranch properties rent & utlitite free - most of their lives - and they are/were both very fiscally irresponsible and then add drugs to the mix - where as I had my own house paid my own mortgage etc. went to work every day - you know the drill - Ok I am just getting worked up again
-
Thanks Peaches :cursing: Well, I just found out a food I CAN NOT EAT - SUSHI I think it's the rice - I know I eat rice every day - but it's jasmine rice and not sticky rice - OMW I ate 1/2 of one roll and a couple pieces of the fish on top and got stuck - still stuck a little bit - So no more sushi for me Well, I am in a PISSED mood today - my bro started it last night - it's too much to go into here - but involves land that we inherited - it not selling and brothers who have been living off the inheridance and not working and are about to run out of $$$ - and accussing me of stealing - well you know what I have worked since I was 19 - I make a good salary and what I inherited is extra for me - I saved and invested - I didn't sit on my A$$ do drug and act like I was howard fricken hughes.. Well that is it in a nut shell - my bro is whacked -but he is my only living brother with whom I share the same parents - My sister has a diff Dad.. Well, I gotta get my butt back to work - so ck back later..

Denise Here you go http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f5/ticker-tutorial-pictures-41782/ it's under LBT forum suggestion feedback & questions - imho they don't make these things easy for newbie and oldies to find.. Plus they keep moving things around - I liked when edit signature was on the right side under members area - I update my signature almost daily cuz of the exercise ... -
Good Morning Gang!!! TGIF :cursing: Linda - As to having my head there yes I think I do - but I am afraid of what the future holds - I know I can't worry about tomorrow - so I just take it one day at a time - I am so scared that the weight will come back on - for me the REAL proof will be 5 yrs from now. I am highly motivated right now - but will I be a year from now:confused:. We all know that if you lose your motivation it's so hard to get back. My trainer said that my sweating is proof that my motabolism is working (I sweat like a freaking pig in my head mostly) So I think that I am just very lucky that exercise is a very big help in losing my weight along with my food choices - I think having major surgery was also a big motivator - when I woke up after surgery - I said WTF have I done  I don't like pain... Plus - being single makes my job a little easier - I don't have all the family drama & frustrations (some my bro called last night and we got in a big arguement - but being upset like that doesn't cause me to eat - boredom is/was my biggest challenge) plus I am not going all the time - My trip to Laughlin and our Mall trip will be experiences for me as far as making good food choices and eating out for a whole weekend - as it stands now I don't eat out that much maybe once a week or really every 2 or 3 weeks. I wish that I could give you some of my motivation - but hopefully by being a good example I am helping in some way - I know that some of you hold me in high esteem as to my success and that in itself is a big - part of my motivation - just like my trainer telling me good job - That's what I like about our group - we are each others cheer leader - we all need cheering on and to be told GOOD JOB - it is critical in my opinion. And you know what our families don't always fill that bill - we are taken for granted and as the primary care givers we do all the giving and rarely received the thanks or koedo (sp) for what we do for our family and others - that's why we ate (imho) we give give give and don't always get back - so we rewarded/comforted ourselves with food. I could be full of it - you all might just think I am just a big wind bag - and just put up with me. I have been told on another thread - that I can be a bit preachy  Chim - I am with you on the exercise - who would have thunk that we would ever want to exercise - Have fun !!! Kristin - What kind on shopping ?? Clothes :blushing::tongue: Cleaning good exercise too - especially a deep spring cleaning.. Kari - here is what bmi is all about - Finding out your body mass index (BMI) is a quick way to figure out if your weight is healthy for your height. Your BMI value is more useful for predicting your health risks than your weight alone, but it's even more useful to treat it as one of many factors that influences your health, including total body fat, waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio. Body mass index is calculated by this formula, developed by the Belgian statistician Adolphe Quetelet in the nineteenth century: Using BMI to predict overweight still has its limitations, though. It doesn't take frame size into account, so people with stockier builds may be considered overweight even if they don't have a lot of body fat. Tests that physically measure body fat and distribution are better than BMI at telling if you are overweight. A skinfold measure, for example, uses a instrument called calipers to measure the thickness of the fat layer on your arm or stomach. A bioelectrical impedance test how easily electricity travels through your body (fatty tissue slows down the current) to estimate what percentage of the body is fat. These tests involve a physical measurement by a trained technician at a gym or doctor's office. Also, BMI is not a good predictor of overweight for these groups of people: •Children and teens, because BMI ranges are based on adult heights•Competitive athletes and bodybuilders, because heavier muscle weight may skew the results•Pregnant or nursing women, because they need more fat reserves than usual•People over 65, because even BMI values of 29 do not appear to be unhealthy at this age, and may even be a useful energy reserve in case of illness Well, since I was so preachy above - I better get my butt to work - it's 8 so will ck back later Happy Friday Everyone
-

HELP PLZ! Cravings about to take over!
IndioGirl55 replied to eejaydiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1st - what stage are you on your post op diet - this meal sounds like it would be considered soft - not a mushie and 15 days out I was on mushies. You have to follow your doc's post op diet 2nd you gotta quit thinking about them - quit obessing about them -they will be there in another few weeks - they aren't going anywhere - it's just food - food is always availble - as fat chicks for some reason we think if we don't have it right now we are going to die - heck you aren't going to die from not eating your fav meal - in fact you might live a little longer  Keep to your food plan that your doc has given you - heck try and spice up your mushie - you will survive - it's only food - it's not manna from heaven - Stay strong - Good Luck........... -
How do you deal with your cravings, frustrations and feelings of weakness?
IndioGirl55 replied to Amoud's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You are doing what you need to - find distractions - remember why you were banded - LBT becomes our transfer addiction - it a good thing it's calorie free - doesn't cost a dime and it's the greatest place imho.. For me my intense cravings aren't like they use to be at all - once your body gets use to eating healthy that's what it craves most of the time - and if I have to have choc - I have sf fudgecicle or choc pudding or even a Protein Bar - you get your sweet fix and protein at the same time. The 3 bite rule is another tool I use. Exercise too is key. Good Luck on this journey -

Cathy - you will pay if forward once you are banded. I was a newbie once Now I am an experienced bander almost to goal. The band works as long as you do your job. Yes this is a good group - there isn't any fighting or meanness here - we are in this together - no one understands a fat chick expect another fat chick - that being said - I practice tough band love - I don't accept excuses - this process is work - but it's a process and we will fall down sometimes - the secert is to pick your self up and get back on program.. Good Luck - Keep us posted.... -

OK Denise - you have an Aunt in 1000 Palms OMG - YOU BETTER CALL ME IF YOU COME THRU THE DESERT !!!! I AM GOING TO BE PISSED OFF IF YOU DON'T  - You are one of the 1st people I met here - I found the 50+ thread I think when I 1st joined LBT.. My 2 main threads to post on is here & my Lucky #7's - and since I wasn't looking for a date - I really didn't have much to add to the single thread - I think being single helps in the weight loss cuz we don't have to cook family dinners etc (well I do have to cook for my DGS but he eats so diff than me that it's not really a problem) Yep I really dont want to be 30 again - well maybe the body of a 30 yr old with my 53 yr old brain :w00t: -
That's what we are here for.. I am glad you are feeling better.
-
Good Morning Gang Happy Thursday - One more day til the weekend:thumbup: Phyl - I REFUSE to buy pre-made potatoe or mac salads  A gf once showed me how you can buy it then add some of your own stuff to jazz it up but imho it still taste like crap - It' not that hard to make anyway - I use red potatoes (so no peelling) green onions - black olives - mustard - mayo - if you want to jazz it up some - use wasabe mayo - delish !!! I don't think I have made any since being banded - but I may have I just use lite mayo now..:w00t: Well - 6.5 to go til my 1st goal I just can't get over this whole weight loss thing - it is just blowing my mind - I have accomplished so much in the last 8 1/2 months (yes this is me patting myself on the back:lol:) - my brain has changed (hopefully forever:rolleyes2:) My trainer said yesterday as I was pushing thru - (had to do 100 reps on some machine where the weights are on your shoulders and you squat and push up) that he could tell my deterimation in my face as I was shaking my head no - i can't do anymore - but i would - you gotta work thru the burn - Trainers are really great motivators - do you know that for that one hour you don't think about work, home etc - you are talking to your guy/girl and your mind is totally in a whole nother place - it is really enjoyable - I think once my 3 months 2xweek is up - I will still keep him once a week - I will make room in my budget somehow.. Well, better see what's on my desk for the day Later chickie...
