Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
IndioGirl55 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Totally get the whole eye thing - I use to alway increase my font size but forget lately - another old age thingie - that's why I love this thread...:tongue: I wish that we could just set our font from the get go... Lynn - I found homemade foods so much more satisfying than the canned stuff - and you gotta use your imagination - have you ck'd out the food thread for ideas... I NEVER get to sleep in on the weekends - the Angel wakes me up 5 ish and sometime at 2 - 3 - 4 .... But it's better than the alternative  - but I do go back to bed on Sat & Sundays - but I get up at 5 on weekdays How old is your grandson?? Thin - Congrats on the 1.2 lbs  Penny - See note to Lynn above - ck out the food thread - I used a lot of imagination on that mushie stage Denise - No baby yet :tongue2: Hows the cravings going I was out and about today - picking up taxes - shopping cuz I am getting $$$ back - then went to the grocery store for my weekly shopping - I was starving cuz I hadn't eaten all day - I walked by things I use to eat - Looked at them lovingly - picked them up - looked at the calories - and but them all back - got a watermelon and some strawberries:tongue: Oh ya - back to the shopping - got 2 pairs of shoes (both heels - i use to wear only flats or if I did get a heel it was 1 or 2 inch only) and Denise remember I got a pair of 8 jeans a while back - well they were on sale today - so took a size 6 into the dressing room (cuz the 8's are loose) and guess what THEY FRIGGING FIT... BUT AND THERE IS A BUT I am in no way a size 6 - these pants must run large - cuz at old navy I got a 10 and they were on the tight side. But the tag says 6 and they are hanging in my closet right now where as last yr at this time 18/20 's where what was hanging in my closet...:sneaky: -
How much weight can you really lose? How fast?

FRANK WAY TO GO YOU DID THE WORK CONGRATULATIONS -
Ruby - CONGRATS on your 3 lbs - It so funny the week that you don't expect to lose you do and the one where you think you have lost 10 cuz you have been doing so go - and then zip... I take every .5 that I can get - I am happy as long as it's a lose Jackie - Something is going on - what are you eating - how's your restriction - are you getting your exercise?? (ok re-read and you are exercising) You say you haven't been eating bad - but that's not saying you are eating GOOD.. Cut out the not eating Bad and change in to eating Good and the scales may move again (this is being said with A LOT OF LOVE:wub: - so please don't get mad at me please:biggrin:) Karri - You are RIGHT ON !!!! As stated we are a like  - and I totally agree with you - truly the 16 in 11 weeks would be great - but it won't be the end of the world if I don't (My real goal is to be 150 by 7/17 that's 14 weeks (need to lose 1.14 a week) and the 17th falls on a Thrusday - my weigh in day:lol:) I agree with you 100% we have to do what works for us. Your low carb works for you - my limited carbs works for me and I am going to keep it that way. If I don't I will end up over eating as I know myself well enought that I would end up still eating the carbs which would then put me over on my calories. Thanks for the validation - I may just try and increase the exercise a little - but but not to the extent to burn myself out either Kari - Neither of my GD's liked me much as babies. I watched the little one the night my son & dil got married - she was like 9 months old - she cried her self to sleep - and that took like over an hour oh my head & blood pressure... She likes me now - but is a total home body (I think she is a tad autisictic or something as she is not very social - even when she is here with her mom she wants to go home) I can take the little one for an hour or 2 but that's it... I just don't have the patience for it any more - I was better with the 1st 2 - but heck I was 36 with the 1st (the one who lives w/me and truly is my son) and with the 2nd one I was 39 - so age and # of grandkids plays into that Linda - you will be find cuz this is your first grandbaby - but after a few - the newness wears off  - Oh but you watch Margo - well I guess you have more patience than me :sneaky: I'm like Kari - I LOVE MY PEACE AND QUIET.. Gang - Today picked up my taxes - getting $$$ back - got to write off $1600 of my medical expense from the band (has to be over 7.5% of our income) so I went shopping to celebrate  - 2 pairs of shoes (they have heels one about a 4 inch I would guess - before I bought nothing but flats and if I did get a heel it was 1 or 2 inches) - a pair of pants from Old Navy (Tops are a little young for me - but pants are pants) then went to the mall - tried on some stuff but nothing really caught my eye except those jeans that I got a month ago in size 8 were on sale - so I took a 6 into the changing room - said what the heck - well guess what - THEY FRIGGIN FIT  No way in God's green earth am I a 6 - (the pants from old navy are a 10) but that's the size on the tag - so I am just stoked that I have a 6  sometimes it is all about the # When I saw my trainer at the gym this morning - he said have you lost more weight - told him 1/2 a pound this week - he said that my body is rearaging it's self with the building of muscle :biggrin2: That was nice to hear from him - I told him that he was the only man in this world beside my doc who ever knew how much I weighed  - My x never knew my weight  Ok - it's 8:36 - I think I started this a long time ago - but you all know how I like to write a books :tongue2: Plus I get up do something come back - re-read what I wrote - retype it etc So I will post and give you all something to read :biggrin2:

1st are you staying overnight in the hospital?? I did - ended up an extra night cuz when the doc came at 1 the day after surgery - I was having major gas in the shoulder pain and was afraid to go home in that kind of pain (me & vicoden don't get along well) and it's just me and my grandson (16 at the time) the pain shots put me to sleep - so he said I could stay and they gave me a shot at 1:30 and truly I could have gone home that night if I was thinking - I was good by day 3 and back to work day 6 (desk job) Still would have a little gas but the strips helped - walked a little hunched over when I first got up but once moving did good - Whats your doc orders for eating after you get home - I had to do full liquids (incls cream soups - yogurt - pudding) for 10 days then mushies for 10 and soft for 10 then regular. Home made stuff is better than canned - Low fat - sugar free - The creamed soups saved me. Secret - to my success so far - is that I have my MIND totally into this band - I eat healthy 98% of the time - I allow treats 2% of the time - I weighed my food in the beginning until I learned what 4 oz of meat/fish looked like - I got this little one cup bowl from target that I use to eat from and I eat off sandwich plates and use condiment fork & spoon - I keep a food diary and count calories and Protein grams - I try to keep my calories between 900 - 1200 a day - and if I want a treat - I budget those calories into my daily totals. I primarily eat baked fish for dinner every nite - with 1/2 c rice and veggies - I may eat out once or twice every two weeks I go to the gym anywhere from 3 -5 times a week - I started out just walking on the treadmill for like 30 minute mile with no incline - I am now walking 3 miles in 1 hrs on an incline of 4 to 6 - and with no incline I am doing 3.5 in 1 hr - I can walk a whole song on 4.o speed.. I got a trainer a month ago - so I now work weights twice a week and the other days I do cardio. This is a lifetime lifestyle change for me - I am totally serious about losing this weight - to me have major surgery is a big frickin deal - and I didn't have it just to mess it up... I am not that big of a fool.. I am using my tool - but that's all it is - it's just a tool - the band it's self will not cause you to lose weight as you can eat around it if you choose (I was just told about a lady who ate Oreo's & milk like 5 days out - How incredibility asinine) The band does require will power - the will power to eat healthy to follow your doc's orders and to exercise. If I as a middle age lady who has been fat most of her life - and was a total slug bug and do this anyone can. Don't get me wrong - it's not always a walk in the park - but I can tell you that I feel 10 yrs younger - feel so much better about myself and LOVE shopping in the regular stores - got a size 6 pair of pants today (this is a fluke cuz I am normally a 10 or 12) but they say 6 and I am going to wear them inside out. Those are my secrets - I think positively - Do I miss the junk - ya sometimes - but not that much and now a days if I want a treat I can have it - 1/2 piece of cake even a whole piece - NO LONGER THE WHOLE CAKE :sneaky: But usually my sweets are sugar free fudgecicles - sf pudding - sf yogurts - or fruit... Bander's Rules -Small bites - eat slow - chew chew chew

How much weight can you really lose? How fast?
IndioGirl55 replied to BATassbandita?'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
How fast you lose the excess weigh depends on many things: Your motabolism - what you eat - how much you have to lose and the amount of exercise you do. IMHO I think doctors are short changing us saying that we can expect to only lose 50 to 60% of our excess weight - what are they say that we are not capable of losing 100% of our excess weight. I have lost 84% of my excess weight in 8 1/2 months - I eat healthy and excercise The band in it's self doesn't make you lose the weight it's the work that you put in that makes you lose the weight - and you have to work imho. The only thing the band does is make you full faster and keeps you full longer (once you have proper restiction) but you can still eat around it if you chose to.. So your weight loss will be up to you - and how much you work you want to do..... Good Luck !! -

OMG you are doing GREAT - Thank God for your cat - sounds like he's a great nurse  Your port site will hurt the most (really discomfort) for about 2 weeks - well that was me - but by day 3 I was feeling really good Each day gets better - I am glad you are walking - drinking and giving egor your won tons - good job -
Good Morning Ladies Up at 6:30 to the gym by 7:15 - did my 3.30 miles on the treadmill incline 5 & 6 - then did weights for about 1/2 hr arms and tummy - feeling strong and great this morning :biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2: Hey there Jeannie - Glad you are back  Eating - well here is a typical week day menu SF Yogurt & granola - or oatmeal - or eggbeaters One Pot Wonder (veggies & meat cooked together what ever I want to throw in one pot and cook) Turkey Chili - I do go out for lunch every now and then to mex (beans & 1/2 a taco) or Chinese Mu shoo pork or orange chicken my have a bite or 2 of rice- Fish - Rice - Veggie - this is dinner most nights But will have beef, chick or pork ever now and then Snacks - 100 c snack pack popcorn - sf fudgecicles - sf choc pudding or 1/2 of a southbeach protein bar - some time the whole thing - lf string cheese and 1 or 2 crackers I am a creature of habit - but last night I took healthy request cream of chick soup and my shredded chick and a little milk and cook it all together (chick n gravy) and put it over 1/2 cup of rice - total of 1 cup- OMW very good but I could only eat about 3/4 of the cup of food - it was really good and filling. I keep my calories around 800 to 1200 max a day.. Linda Yes they are special needles (well I have read that they are cuz other nurses also want to be able to do their own fills/unfills) What I have read on the subject here on LBT is that the needles are special (shape wise) and that nurses who know about ports (i think for chemo) are better than some docs about doing unfills in the ER I am glad that you had a better night and aren't interested in eating - I love when I feel that way Well I need to vacuum my bedroom and clean my bathroom and do my grocery shopping for the week - and maybe go tan - heck I may even get to use my pool this weekend - I think it's suppose to be like 97 today and 101 tomorrow so if the pool gets to 80 I may just jump in Off to the vacuum and do a load of clothes - will ck back

I know this is hard - but it can be done - I am a firm believer in tough band love (operative word being love) I just don't understand why someone would get banded and not do their very best to follow the rules.. This may be due to my age as I know that I have less year ahead of me than whats behind me and I really wanted to have a longer life with more quality.. I can tell you I feel 10 yrs younger and have so much more energy. Also - I had to have tons of test and at my age this was major surgery - It's my last ditch effort to lose the weight - and I just made that commitment to myself to eat healthy and exercise. You are a baby still - you have your whole life in front of you. Losing the weight will improve your life - it will make you a happier person - you will have so much more energy - self confidence etc. You just gotta make the commitment to yourself - before you stick that bite of food in your mouth - think why am I eating this - do something to distract yourself - get on the computer come here it's open 24/7. Go clean out a drawer or bathroom. Losing the fat is losing the barrier between you and your world - that's what you are afraid of food soothes your emotions - you are going to have to learn new coping measures. It's doable - you just have to make up your mind. I wish you the best - Good Luck...

Karri You hate eating carbs :I love eating carb - we need to trade those parts of our brains - but like i am always telling you - you gotta do what works for you - and truly thats what I will end up doing:tongue: DH must be at work tonite  you usually aren't on the computer this late.. Heck it has distracted me so much that I haven't eaten yet - answering post of ppl who are 3 weeks out eating bread salad ck Parmesan (sp) another girl who doesn't want a fill cuz she want to continue to eat - she thought the band took care of emotional eating - I just don't get it - i really really don't. Ya I sucked on some peanut butter at the end of my soup days - but I wasn't eating real food on week 3... I guess this is no diff than any other addiction - some can stay sober some can't - who knows.... I just wish I could give them some of mine Peaches - I just realized we haven't heard from you today either.... Kari - what's up with you too.. why aren't you guys posting.... You are worrying me... I am peaking at you thru the computer screen - put that candy down - step back - now put those fingers on the key board and talk to your Friends ..
-
You are afraid of saying goodbye to your best Friend food. The food that is killing you and your sex life:lol:. With proper restriction (which isn't promised in your first fill) you can still eat around the band - I think you need to do some head-work or see a counselor as you are sabotaging yourself already - don't want to get a fill - then why did you get banded The band does not stop emotional eating - I don't know where you thought that it would - the band just makes you feel full faster on a small amount of food -What you put in your mouth and how often you eat is all up to you. The band is only a tool and not a magic cure to our issues with food and to overcome our addiction we need help and sometimes it is in the form of a counselor too.. Talk to your doctor about your fears - they may be able to recommend someone for you to talk to about you issues.

3 weeks out & eating like a horse!
IndioGirl55 replied to oneinamillion's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
----------------------------------------------------------- Darling you haven't had a fill yet - that one reason. you are in bandster hell (the time between surgery & fill) On week 3 I was still on mushies (I had 10 days of each stage) and you are eating regular food?? What stage on you on ?? Can you have creamed Soups - I will tell you with the band you still have to have will power - the will to change your eating habits. Even with proper restriction you can eat around the band - so it's going to take will power to change your old ways - The band is a great tool - but that's all it is - it in its self is not going to make you lose weight. You really gotta do the head work to succeed at this. And imho it's mostly about the head work - not the stomach. Yep there are tons of people here who have cheated and ate food before they were suppose to - but that still doesn't make it acceptable - no you aren't alone - does that make you really feel any better about cheating yourself - just cuz other did too. This is a learning process and it's going to take time - all I can tell you is now - you just move forward - leave dinner in the past - this second is a brand new second - pull those boot straps up and move forward with the determination that you will succeed in this endeavor to get healthy Remember you are the living breathing thing with the brain -not the food you have more power than the food. Good Luck - P.S. - Also you can damage your stomach/band with a slip by eating too soon - you are in the healing process - becareful Please.. -
Idrise my trainer said I can have carbs just earlier in the day (lunch) - I don't have much only 1/2 cup for dinner - I just don't know if I am willing to do it - I find if I don't have it - I am hungry soon afterwords - my lunch is mostly protein & veggies - I don't think I like black beans I sort of remember having them years ago - but who knows taste buds to change- the pinto beans sound with chipote sounds good. The one time I tried Atkins - I ate omelets with cheese - bacon - I was bad - I ate the protein but a lot of fat with it  I only lasted 4 weeks I think on it - I remember the family eating pizza - i went to my room and cried. I felt so deprived.... and I just can't stand being deprived.. I will give it a shot - eat carbs before I work out (for the energy) and try protein & veggies for dinner - just thinking like this is bugging me - I am such a creature of habit
-
What kinds of foods are you eating?? How much are you eating per meal - are you eating snacks - Are you getting enough hard proteins that stick with you longer. Some foods are slider and don't keep you full for long If you are getting stuck on hard proteins that means you are either eating too fast - not chewing well enough IMHO I don't think we really can always distinguish between real hunger and head hunger - Even now for me I can be physically full - but still want to eat. Plus sometimes I think we are just hungrier than others - depending on what's going on in your life - emotions, boredom, being tired... Since you are a male we can't blame pms  Also I have found anytime I say I am going to eat less - I want to eat more -
-
Yep I bet you are excited and a bit nervous. Just 4 more days. Do you have all your stuff - liquid tyenol - gas x strips - Protein powder - popcicles - Soups (if you are allowed).
-
Hey Gang What's Up.. I just realized we haven't heard from Jackie in a day or two - Jackie where are you  Hope nothing is wrong I think that we need to all band together (pun intended:tongue:) to petition the insurance companies to pay for ps for bariatric patients. I was discussing this with my trainer tonite - It is demoralizing to lose all this weight and then have all the skin issues we have - mentally it is damaging and not an incentive to keep the weight off. I wonder how we would go about this. OK it wasn't until 2001 that lapband got approved as a wls to be covered by insurance. Someone lobbied for it - I wonder what proof we would need for this cause - I need to talk to my doc about the - who is the next person going to the doctors soon ?? I don't go til 5/28 or something like that. But as a community (LBT) there really should be a way to get this covered. Ya I know if you have a rash etc - but like Karri said 24 months of documentation - that's a bit much.. I know that for very extreme cases it does get paid for by insurance but - doesn't mental health count for something - Just thinking out loud here. But heck most people don't have 50 K to pay for a full body lift... Ok now on to dinner - I am making something with chicken (it's already cooked and shredded) Told my trainer I wanted to lose these 16 lbs in the next 11 weeks - he said eat my carbs for lunch but I can still have my popcorn at night - but night protein & veggies - I said i would try - then realized who I was talking to - with him no excuses:eek: (male version of me - you know it's easier to give advice than take it )- well as I sit hear thinking what I can throw together - i am CRAVING rice... Karri are refried beans high in carbs??? I could make something mexican with chicken beans a little cheese... I think i need to go to the store I don't have any onions or bell peppers.. What happen to Chim & Jackie and Ssankofa - you guys popped in and haven't been back - You all need to come back.... Ok I am rambleing here - since I don't think anyone is here... so am going to feed my doggies and will be back..

Hunger pangs and nicotine cravings
IndioGirl55 replied to Fanny Adams's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
We do have a few smokers - not too many though - Nope I don't find the band changed my smoking - you did better than me - I only quit for 10 days.. It' something I need to quit but one thing at a time - that's my excuse and I am sticking to it  -
Do you work or at home during the day I have sf yogurt & low fat 1/4 c granola most days - oatmeal - and who says you have to eat breakfast food for breakfast - I have had 1/2 ham sandwich on lite bread with cheese or 1/2 Peanutbutter sandwich (but I can eat bread just very slowly) - Moringstar sausage - I have had raisin bran & skim milk 1/2 c or cheerios. I just dont eat muffins - donuts anymore

New Lapband. How do you get relief from the gas????
IndioGirl55 replied to GSmith's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Gas X strips and walking - I think mine lasted about a 4 maybe 5 days -
Yep I guess I can never move - Phyl tried to see my doc for a fill but they wanted your first born child. I think she did find someone in Riverside but she never went - she goes Monday for her fill. Can't you find a doc to order the supplies for you - heck you work in a clinic - can't you order it thru there saying for emergency unfills for your patients... OMW I am showing you my devious side  Well it's only 5:22 pm and I got meet the trainer @ 6 so I am killing time I had a nice surpise when I got home -DGS cleaned the house - so now all i gotta do is my bed & bath rooms - He can be such a sweet kid sometimes. Others - well you know you have kids too...

Did they give any of you a brace to wear?
IndioGirl55 replied to dreamsize8's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had one - got it in the hospital but they didn't call it a brace - something like abdominal bandage/binder- I think they gave it to me cuz of the gas pain I was having - I am trying to remember - but that was 8 months ago and I can barely remember yesterday - I don't think I wore it once I got home - but do remember that it like held me in so the port site and other incisions didn't hurt as band - But like I said I never wore it after I got home - Are you getting your fluids in - I don't' think it was the binder made you dizzy & nauseous - I am not a doc - so really can't give you a diagnosis but don't think it would hurt to take it off - but you really should call your doctor and tell them what happend -
Linda - this isn't tmi - it's a fact of the band  It's mucous and not slime - do you have a cold/sinus - I know this sounds dumb asking a nurse - but you say mucous aand not slime.... I assume you are taking some kind of anacid before you go to bed. Are you that tight?? Right now I have a little heartburn - but will be leaving for the gym in a bit and I always stick a piece of gum in my mouth and do you know that takes away the heartburn (omw I sallowed a piece last week - but didn't have a problem) - I get it (hb) from just drinking water sometimes - But I have only pb'd at night from eating too much (midnite raids - that one more bite of pudding) Eat some ice chips - that one support group meeting I did go to said to do that after pbing and I would stick to slider foods (soups and bland stuff just like you would treat an ulcer) and no wine or mixed drinks (sorry ) maybe you are just very irritated. Not much help - but am trying (Hugs) to help a little You were self pay??? Your insurance doesn't cover fills?? Ya I could see why you wouldn't want to spend $600 - but if it last over the weekend I would - cuz they say being too tight can cause problems.. Hugs - I am sorry that you are having problems
-
Secert to NOT pbing - eat slowly - small bite - chew & chew !!! I am 8 1/2 months out and I still forget - pb'd a little on salmon last night - for me it's usually just slime with like baby food it in - but mostly slime - heck I have pb'd on yogurt and pudding - oh ya you will bp some times if you just take one bite too many too I have taken that one more bite cuz the food taste good - but know if I swallow that it's going to come back up - thank God for napkins
