Steph - As my trainer say - if you are losing weight then stick to what your are doing and you are going to be adding your exercise on your total gym and I would stick to net calories - and keep up with the good food choices and that one bad day - is needed sometime to boost your metabolism.. Beth - I think it's cuz we are all banded in July so we are all in the same place - it's time to mix things up a bit. Karri -You are far from a Pansy - I have to chime in with our medical women (Linda & Phyl both nurses) that before you make any decisions you need to find out what's up with your foot. Your desire and determination to do the 3K this weekend and the 1/2 or full before your surgery is admirable - but not to the detriment of your health - it's no diff that you excusing over eating no matter what it did to your body - this is something healthy but if your foot does have a stress fracture and you run on it - you are damaging your body - what does it matter if it's healthy or unhealthy - it's still damage - (just like my pound is a pound :w00t: not matter if it's lead or feathers ) So until you see a doctor - and we know what we are dealing with a decision can't be made. Kari - Congrats on being able to wear your wedding rings  The ring I wear on my right had is flopping all over the place - I need to take it in to get sized. Linda - HUGS - I am sorry about this - I know how disappointed you must be. Didn't you go to mexico to get banded?? Have you thought of that option?? Kathy So glad to hear from you - we are always wondering where all our old timer disappeared to - we have missed you.. Yep life is to short and I think when we experience a death in the family it really brings that aspect to the for front.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok did my gym 1 hr weights worked my legs - 58 oz of water so far and 345 calories for the day so far - I haven't had dinner yet - scallops 100 pasta or rice 120 - veggies 25 - popcorn 100 - and I can still have another 200 calories - Well with all the wind we have been having - my hat flew off - so my bipolar high from this morning - is gone - I am pooped - heck I got to work at 7 today - and tomorrow - I have a dentist appointment @ 2:30 to put on my new crown and replace an old silver filling - hope they can just replace and not have to crown... Ok gotta go pay bills - - Will CBL P.S Where is Kristin - Nichole - we haven't heard from you ladies in a while...

A pound of lead is going to be smaller in size than a pound of feathers - Muscle (lead) vs Fat (feathers) - put it still just a pound - so you can not say that I didn't lose weight cuz I gain a pound of muscle in one weeks time - besides you build muscle on a cellular level and I am sorry your cells aren't going to multiply in a week period of time to build 1 lbs of muscle (well maybe if you take steroids but even then it's a reach) The losing inches when the scales aren't moving - goes to the fact that muscle takes up less space than the fat does - so we are losing inches even if we aren't losing weight - they off set each other. Yes a lot of factors go into what shows on the scale - but it all boils down to calories in vs calorie out and being honest with yourself on what you are actually eating and what your actual intensity of your exercises to be - not our perceived notions but actual evidence. And as you lose weight you have to ramp up the intensity of your exercise cuz the smaller you are the less calories you burn that when you were your original weight... and the smaller you are the less calories you need to maintain that weight.

Am I super lucky or screwing up?

You have to follow your doctors instructions - not others they are all diff - but you are eating some non-mushie foods - call your doc and tell him what you are eating if it's ok with him -
I can't say I am a runner - but trying it out - I would set incline on zero and I run at 5.0 speed - and as far as talking as you do it - I think that rule is for walking not running :huh2: I would say can't talk but not dying.
-
I'm with JLM & Julie - I started slowly and each week increased my time, speed and incline - I am up to 3 mile 2 x week at varing speeds and inclines (I am even run for 1/4 mile of the 3 miles - just started this)- and have a trainer 2 x week Redgirl - I use to hate exercise too - but I now can say I like it alot - can't say I LOVE it but am very fond of it now - It is a big key in getting the weight off...
-
Yep - I'm almost there 86 in 9 month 3 months to lose 14... I don't diet - I eat healthy and I do exercise regularly

____________________________________________________________ Before you chew... 6 inch sub to me would be 2 cups - cut it in half put each half in a measuring cup - too much bread for me - wasted calories - I couldn't eat that much bread I do eat sandwiches but on WW or Saralee light bread - 1 sandwich on that type of bread would be better than on a subway roll and a lot less calories - I'm all about the calories 98% of the time.
-
It's down to tough decisions - for me David Cook should win - he is the most original of the group - and this is coming from someone who thought at the start "why in the heck is he in the top 12" - But he's really great. David A - is the same over and over - he is a great singer - but no piazza Ayesha (sp) Will be great on Broadway Jason - Love him too but he is just too shy.. Brooke - Carol King wanta be - she will do good but won't win.
-
Think you are doing it just as you should - liquids for a couple of days then slowly reintroduce mushie/soft food - Ice chips are good too..

Denise - No good food or bad food - treats that you budget for :smile2: I was like this on Saturday - I wanted Pizza - so GS ordered 2 large - I gave myself permission for 2 pieces (within my calories for the day) - but only ate 1 1/2 - and never had any of the leftovers (there was a whole pizza in the fridge for about 2 days til GS finished it) Arms - Maybe one day I will get brave and see a PS about then & face - it will be like the lapband - I talked and talked about it - quiz gf who had bypass - but once I made up my mind I was unstoppable.. BeachBumNJ - Welcome - we will keep you in our prayer on Friday for a safe surgery & speedy recovery !!! We were all a little nervous before surgery - you will do fine.. I love LBT it's my transfer addiction.. It keeps me very motivated.. Lynn - Since most of us over 50 girls are EXPERTS at dieting from all our previous attempts - we knew what to do - but we never put our knowledge into practice - with the band to help us (our interior motivators)- we have all the tools available to make it work once and for all. -
Ruby you have me cracking up this morning  a Great way to start the day - Yep we have to challenge ourselves - Its not that we can't it's we think we can't... You are right about the brownine points - I like the hat idea :w00t: I need all the protection I can get and I love your hat Phyl - I can switch them during the day..- I think I am on a bipolar up swing - I am just so full of energy today !!!! I am just feeling my oats and on top of the mountain - Gosh I love when I feel like this - too bad I am at work - I could be home cleaning out the garage or something. Calories yesterday 995... Becky - You can eat - but the diff is now we try to eat healthier 98% of the time and budgeting treats 2% of the time - Before we ate unhealthy 98% and good maybe 2% - Cruise the whole site - read read read ask questions.. The more you know in the being the better you will do.. Sharon - I follow a Weight Watcher eating plan - I can't do Atkins - I eat fruit veggies rice, pasta & potatoes - usually 1/2 of a normal serving size (not our prior serviing size of 2 cups) My doc wants me to do 1 week of each of the post op stages - but I usually just do 2 days liquids then move to soft after a fill Lynn On the eating see my answer to Sharon above - your dietiance wants you to eat a well balanced food plan - Great on the exercise... Well, it's 8:44 and I need to get off this computer - ck with you all tomorrow.. -

Hi Shirley What other sites - band2gether or OH... I have signed up to those in the begining but I like it here the best and I can't keep up with 3 sites - LBT has been my transfer addictiion... -
Ruby I am a FIRM believer in loging your calories - we really do under estimate and I have always been increasing my intensity of my workouts - slowly so that I don't burn myself out and make it so difficult that i can't do it - and give up totally - but over the last 9 months I have increased speed - and inclines and now have thrown it the trying to run at least 1/4 mile of my 3 miles besides adding the weights.. Try it - you might really be suprised.. Can't hurt - you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain...
-
Can't wait to see their responses... I truly hope I don't piss them off. But I am really tired of hearing - muscle weighs more than fat - How we delude ourselves...
-
Ruby Linda chimed in - it's on the other page - 32 oz - 1100 calories but lacking in protein today.. I am on my 5th bottle - how many brownie points do I get 85.5 ozs:tongue: I haven't totaled my calories yet - waiting for dinner - but will be around 1000 - plus I went to the gym tonite - ran 1/4 mile of my 3 miles (had to stop for 30 seconds in the middle) in like 50 mintues... Burned 345 calories and the running is killing me - by killing me I was VERY pooped at the end of the 3 miles. But like I said above as we lose weight we really have to increase the intensity of our exercise if we want to continue to lose..

OK THIS IS LONG BUT I JUST HAD TO SHARE - I THOUGHT IT WAS PRETTY GOOD POST AND WANTED TO SHARE WITH MY GIRLS (THREAD WAS SOMETHING LIKE 1 AM A YR OUT AND NOT LOSING) Man, I hate to be so blunt, but come on people!!! Let me ask you all a question: Does a pound of lead weigh more than a pound of feathers? NO!!!! A pound of feathers is equal to a pound of lead–period. A pound is a pound is a pound……the end! Muscle however, is much denser than fat. A pound of muscle occupies a smaller space than a pound of fat does because it is more compact–so, the next time someone tries to tell you that muscle weighs more than fat–beat them over the head with a dumbbell. OK, enough of that–it is just that so many people try to explain why they weigh more or haven’t lost any weight– It is not because of the muscle weighs more than fat myth–it is because your body fat % probably dropped and you replaced it with lean body mass and kept your weight the same– Losing weight is all about calories consume vs calories burned (unless you have a medical problem) We have a BIG tendency to under estimate the actual calories that we consume. If you have been walking 2 miles a day on a flat surface for a while your body has gotten use to this exercise and it's not burning the same amount of calories as it was when you weight 250 - than it does if you now weight 200 - you are really burning less calories now as your body has lost weight -(you need less and less calories as you lose weight) so what you now need to do is increase the intensity of your exercises - walk fast - do hills - When I weight 250 lbs and walked 30 minutes briskly I burned 172 calorie for the same mile now at 164 i only burn 113 reason is that it took more energy to carry around 250 lbs than it does 164 - so I have gradually increased the length of time that I exercise and the intensity in which I exercise (do inclines on the treadmill) So if you have been doing the same exercises eating the same meals you now need to change things up - to lose 1 lbs a week you have to reduce your calories by 3500 - So say that for me to maintain this weight I would have to eat 2000 a day x 7 =14,000 and to lose a 1 pound a week I have to eat - 3500 less = 10500 /7 = 1500 calories a day and as your weight decreases the amount of calories you eat will have to decrease to if you want to keep losing weight. as stated above the amount of exercise will have to increase too It's all science - not making atom bomb kind of science but just grade school science.. Heres a link to see how many calories you need to maintain your weight and how many you need to lose http://nutrition.about.com/library/bl_nutrition_guide.htm I suggest that you check it out and then track your daily calorie intake Fitday.com - dailyplate.com - calorieking.com If you do these things - you will be surprise because I really believe that you haven't changed things us since you lost the original 50 - 60 - 80 lbs. If you don't have good restriction go get a fill - but the band is not going to lose the weight for you - you have to do the work - and yes it is work - do you really think that what we call skinny people are that way cuz the don't work at it - yes they do - it's that we didn't and we want our cake and it it too - we want to be able to eat - not feel deprived (to us just having 1/2 piece of cake is being deprived - we don't understand why we can't have the whole thing and still be skinny cuz that's the way that we perceive skinny people - but that is a misconception - they watch what they eat they get hungry too - they just don't give into it) Which now brings us to the root of our problem - addiction to food which is mental and not physical.. Well, that enough of me on my soap box - We can get into the whole mental aspect of why we turn to food at another time... I need to fix dinner - Again - this is tough band love - sometimes we just need it.

I like "Lipo in a Box" they are firmer than spanx or flexee - I got mine on QVC - I wear mine daily... My tummy isn't real bad - I just hate the muffin top look or back fat - These really help - the high waisted briefs. -
What are you eating? What have you eaten today.. Protein Shakes are just Meal Replacements they really don't have any magical powers in your weight loss - for 200 calorie I would rather have real food than drink it.. My doc only want us to eat hard Proteins - not shakes
-
Sophie I am sorry that you are struggling. What is your daily food choices are you keeping track of what you eat calorie wise - are you exercising The band is only a tool - they have banded our tummies and not our brains - The band in itself is not going to make you lose the weight - you do by the food choices you make and the amount of exercise you get You can eat around the band - which sounds like you may be doing. I know that I can eat a meal - 4 oz of fish - 1/2 cup rice - 1/2 cup veggies and be full/stuck as you call it - I am physically full - but mentally I am not - HEAD HUNGER - This is why I am always saying the work is really up to you not the band to lose the weight - it helps once you have proper restriction (which it sounds like you have) but it doesn't make your food choices for you.. I would suggest that you start tracking your calories - there are tons of sites to do this - fitday.com - dailyplate.com - calorieking.com. You may be surprise at the amount of calories you are really eating. Does your Doc's office have nutritionist you can go in an talk to. The band does take work and will power on your part - sit down to nite plan a healthy menu for the week - go buy only the items on that list and nothing else - get the junk out of the house and commit to yourself that you are going to start taking care of you - that you deserve the happiness of living a longer & healthier life. Good Luck.

Sorry you have hit that dreaded plateau - I don't have any first hand advice (luckily it has happened to me yet) but my trainer did say that when/if I hit that plateaus - I have to change up my eating - meaning they types of foods - I eat carbs so his suggestion to me was to have them at noon and eat only veggies & meat for dinner and if you are eating chicken change to fish - or if your are eating red meat change to fish or chicken This is the best I can do - Hugs though - I am afraid of the dreaded plateau too...

I was 52 when I had my surgery - on a Tuesday - was back to work (desk job) Monday day 6
