Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
IndioGirl55 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Welcome Sherilyn - Yep Sunday you will be a little nervous but it's all worth it - The only surgery I had prior to this was my gallbladder back in 85. The surgery hurts (for me) for the 1st day - but I was in the hospital overnight so had good pain meds - and once I got home not even Tylenol - there is pain but not that bad and I am a big baby... Words of wisdom follow your doctors orders to a tee - know that this is only a tools - and I mean really know this - in the back of our minds we think this is the answer to our prayers - it is in a way once you get proper restriction but it's still requires work on your part - you make the food choices not the band - you exercise not the band and these items are key - when you have time - go to the 50 + thread on the main 50's page - it's locked now - but read through that - that is where I started my journey a yr ago (yesterday infact) it's locked so you can't post there but you can read - it's full of info - Denise, Phly and I seem to be the only ones left from when I started a year ago... When you have a question ask - and we will try and help you GOOD LUCK AND WE WILL SAY SOME PRAYERS FOR YOUR SPEEDY RECOVERY ON THE 19TH P.S. I have 17 yr GS - 13 GD and 4 yr GD and a 37 yr DS Thanks Tessa - It's much appreciated !!!! Denise - I am still considered over weight too at 157 - I would have to get to 145 to have the normal bmi - but I am not even thinking of going there - I think my size 8's are just find and if I do get there - that's icing on the cake Lynn - Yep I can't say I love it either - but I have come to somewhat enjoy it - especially my work outs with my trainer... I feel a great sense of accomplishment when I have done my workouts. -

Beckyo - Congrats !!! I used the unjury choc & unflavored protein powders - choc for shakes and the unflavored I put in my food & coffee but you gotta let it cool some or it will crudel - I also like Jay Robb vanilla egg white protein - it's for shakes only - add it to lite OJ and it taste like an Orange Julis -(i ordered all mine off the internet - plus my doc's office sells protein stuff too) My doc office gave me list of foods to eat - how many grams of protein etc - when you see the nutristionist and at your pre-op they should have this for you - if they don't - I can go look for my folder and scan and email to you - but your doc instruction could be diff than mind - Hair issues - I know pple who take the Biotin - get their protein and still have lost their hair - but it does grow back - I took boitin before surgery and for the 1st few weeks maybe months but I think it's just the luck of the draw and I have been lucky and haven't lost any (thank God cuz I have fine hair to begin with) Trace is the PRIME EXAMPLE OF WHAT A MAN SHOULD LOOK LIKE. OMW - He can move for such a big man.. You are going to love his show.. -

First of all I think the OP was a troll - meaning that whomever posted this thread was trying to get a reaction from pple - just the way it's worded cause me to think this - I have come across a few threads where people register under fakie names and post just to stir up crap... I can tell you from my personal experience that the urge to stop eating even with perfect restriction (which I have) is still a problem... It's my addiction - once I start eating - I can have a problem stopping even when I am phyically full. My brain is telling me I am hungry and even though I a phsyically full. And for me this is mostly a night time habit - as this is when I would medicate myself - reward myself the most. Also, even with perfect restriction - candy, Cookies etc slide right thru - I could eat 1000 calories of reese pb cups in one sitting right now and if I did that I sure would want some help to stop - but really none of us can make the other persons food choices and by following the examples of other who have been successful - or reading their post - it will inspire them to do the head work and make the changes needed to win the war on our fat. Again - we are here for support - but I feel that as obese people we make a lot of excuses for why we can't change our eating habit and why we can't fight our urges - this is a learning process we are going to fall down and sometime tough band love is what is need (love being the operative word) -

Dietary appropriateness is not harsh IMHO - we can not continue to eat like we did prior to banding. Maybe we should ask what kind of gravy - like I said mine was high fat ya it's an approved mushie but if I had choosen to eat it - I was not changing my eating habits which is what needs to be done in order to lose weight and keeping it off. Truly the potatoes could have been thinned with extra skim milk which would boost the Protein and not added the additional fat (if there was any) Yes this is a learning process - I don't feel that anyone is attacking op just pointing out that there are other healthy opinion in her food choices to make. Support does not equate to enabling -
Numbgirl - I have lived in Indio all my life - I was born here  I see you are in Riverside not far away - I am sure that by December (8 months) you will see a diff and have so much energy to enjoy your vacation. Hippiemama Thanks..... You all can do it to !!!!!
-
Good Morning Gang Ruby - I am VERY PROUD of you - you threw the crap away - last yr at this time you would have not done that.. I too love being sore from exercise - it's a good sore - I know that tomorrow I will be sore in my arms and bra fat area as we worked those areas last night. My trainer gave me a great complement - he said that if I was younger that he could see me being a body builder kind of person - not full out but buff - now some of you might have taken offense at the "younger" comment -but my trainer is like me - we speak the same language and I totally get what he was saying - that due to my saggy skin (age/yrs of fatness) that I am not going to ever have a buff body - but that my DETERMINATION was there and that just from the work we have done for the last 2 1/2 months there is a diff in my body... I am not a super sensitive person - when I showed him my before pic he asked "how did you let yourself get that way" a girl at work said weren't you offended - and I said no - he was speaking the truth - I can deal with the truth - how does someone let them self gain 100+ lbs over what they should be - Denial - 5 lbs every few month - giving up - We all know the answers to that one.. Phyl I am glad you got a new computer - I was thinking of getting a laptop so that when I go to Vegas I can communicate with you guys - but I really can't justify the cost - and think I would rather use that $$$ to keep my trainer Steph You are doing the work needed to find out why you are being drawn to sweets - stress, old habits - comfort (sugar gives us) I feel that as long as we do the mental work and realize what we are doing then we are ahead of the game (even if you have indulged) You are truly looking into why you are giving into those cravings and you will figure out how not to.. Linda - Have a great time - have a couple of the drinks of the day for me - I will take the calories - You are in the Cozumel area right - make sure you take your sun block and enjoy yourself - you deserve it... Congrats on DD graduation... Karri - Where are you ??? Have you ran so much that you are totally exhausted and your fingers aren't working  Kari - You too - what's up.. Candice - Good food choices - the food cops are in the vicinity ....
-
Thanks Candice - She is on the road to recovery - but they arent' going home -they will be moving. So I don't know how long they are going to be with me... Please now pray for me  4 additional pple in my house and so far they haven't driven me crazy but I know that before long they will..

Ok gang - I understand what ras-sti is saying - why in the heck are you eating the gravy 1st of all. Eating those kinds of food is what got all of us fat in the 1st place. I was on full liquids for 10 days - then to mushies - I came home from work - tired (big food trigger for me) and hungry. Was trying to think what I could eat - oh mashed potatoes and gravy - so I was frying the bacon to make white cream gravy and as I looked at it cooking - I said to myself - you just went thur major frickin surgery to get this band - you are going to continue to eat this junk - ya it's a mushie but was it healthy NO NO NO. So I dumped it out and fixed something else (don't remember what most likely just the potatoes make with skim milk and 1/2 tsp butter) There is a food thread here - you really need to keep a food diary and count calories as a learning too - you don't have to do this for the rest of your life but until you learn a serving size - what's healthy whats not and how may calories are in that cup of mashed potatoes & gravy. The band is not going to make you lose the weight - you will do that by your food choices. Good Luck -
Judy You are normal with the 2nd thoughts - but the band is the tool that will help you with the portion control for the rest of your life as long as you maintain it - I can my band my interior motivator - as we all know after a few months we go back to our old eating habits - which inturn had the re-gain of the weight we lost and then some. You are installing a permanet fixture in your stomach - it will be a constant reminder when you try and over eat (once you have proper restriction) - I have read where some call it forced bulima (non-banders say this) cuz you will pb if you over eat - At our age we have done this a thousand time - for us it's no longer a game - we finally want to win the frickin war - not just the battle. For me I love my tool - it is just what I needed - I need that little motivation wrapped around my stomach to make me have the AH HA MOMENT that I really have made this a lifetime lifestyle change.

IndioGirl55 replied to okpunkinpie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nothing is needed as far as I know - I have been told that for some people their bands get tighter after they fly - I haven't flown yet so don't have any personal experience but will be flying next month.. If you want to take food on the plane (Protein stuff) you gotta have a note from your doctor to get thru security. -
I was looking at my profile and saw that 5/14 is when I joined  How's the feet Miss Excerise Queen... Hair issues - my gf who didn't have surgery but did medifast loss tons of hair too. It's just like our bands - I am tight at night your are tight in the morning we both get our protien - you lose your hair I don't - it's the luck of the draw from what I have read and no body knows why it happens to some and not others - the good thing is that it will grow back from all that Ihave read.. Soak those tooties  - I have arms with the trainer tonight...

IndioGirl55 replied to okpunkinpie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No one is going to get mad at you - at least not me (and I am one that you are referring to) Suggestion - and don't get mad - I think you may need to see someone about your head issue with food - alot of banders in your situation do seek out help from a counselor - shrink etc. Also you need to talk with your doctor too - he may have some resources for you too.. Our problems with food are mostly mental - I am lucky I have had my Ah Ha moment - this is no longer a game for me - it's about extending the quality of my life and hopefully extending the years I have left. Obese people do have disciplined - look you have the disciplined to binge and over eat - your mind is doing it - you just have to flip the switch for it to work the other way - being disciplined not to binge - for me it was having major surgery - being put to sleep and cut open was a major thing to me - which i didn't take lightly. Alot of people go into this thinking it's the cure all to their issues with food - that it's going to stop them from being hungry and wanting the wrong kinds of food - it's not - and I was lucky enough to be warned about this prior to surgery. It's only a tool - nothing else. You haven't had a fill yet - so you are in bandster hell - but it is doable - I am no frickin diff than you - I weighed 250 lbs last July - I ate what I wanted when I wanted and was a total slug bug - and I gave all the same excuses as to why I couldn't lose weight - "who in the hell made up the portion size of 1/4 c of ice cream being a real portion" heck to me 1/2 of a 1/2 gallon was a portion.. For me I gave up making excuses - I made up my mind that I was no longer going to treat myself so badly - I made up my mind that I wanted to see my grandkids get married - I wanted to go on vacation and do more than just sit on my butt cuz if I had to walk too far I would be worn out after the 1st block. My issues with food were more out of eating due to boredom and portion control - but everyone of us is diff on our issues - your issues with food may be more complex. It can be done - and us successful ones are proof of that - we aren't any diff that you (we were all fat chicks too a short time ago - and for the record mentally we still are) it's just that we have made the commitment to our life - to make this a lifetime lifestyle change and we are using our tool along with our brains to be successfully. We have figured out that we are worth the work - that we deserve to live a healthier life. You can do this - you really can - once you have restriction it will become a little easier - but you gotta get your head into the game too.. Good Luck... -
I joined LBT exactly 1 year ago today !!!

I eat 100 c snack pack almost every nite - no problems - it's a slider food for me...

Did you cheat on pre-op liquid diet
IndioGirl55 replied to crystalcml's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Can't help but saying this - but - just cuz I jump off a cliff does that mean it's ok for you to. This goes to the saying your Mother use to say to you. Life is hard - Band life isn't easy - It's not a walk in the park by any means - besides the fact that most doctors put you on a pre-op diet is to shrink your liver it is also preparing you for your life as a bander. You have to follow the rules if you want success. You are only cheating you if you cheat on your pre-op - you aren't cheating - Kathy - Jane or me - you are hurting you... It's the same after you are banded - Oh I ate chips when I was suppose to be on liquids - or ate some Pasta - it went down fine - it didn't hurt. Maybe not - but the reason for the rules to to help you succeed as a bander - not to damage your band. I just love these types of polls - I guess it makes people feel better that they aren't the only ones who cheat - but heck all you have to do is walk outside your front door and go to the mall and look at all the obese people walking around - we are already in the majority - but does that make it alright??? -
Help! I can't get full.
IndioGirl55 replied to Catarina's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Catarina Give me a list of what you ate yesterday (types of food and amounts). Are you drinking with your meals - how long do you wait before and after a meal to drink. If you are eating slider foods (soft foods that slide right thru the band) you are going to be hungry sooner rather than later. If you eat hard Proteins (meats) you will stay fuller longer. A part of you saying you aren't full could be more mental than physical - I can eat my 4 oz fish and be physically full - but mentally I haven't eaten enough - and will keep picking at my rice and veggies - but if you really sit and feel your stomach you are full - but since you ate such a small amount of food your brain is telling you are still hungry - Stomach noises doesn't mean you are hungry it means you are digesting your food. The Band in it's self is not going to make you lose weight - it is only a tool, you are the one in control of they amount of food you eat and the types of food you eat and the amount of exercise you do That is what is going to make you lose the weight not the band - the band is only a tool to help restrict your portion size - but if you choose to eat slider foods - high fat food - sugar and don't exercise the weight isn't going to come off You work all day and are tired when you get home - So are the rest of us - but we have made the commitment to ourselves to get off our butts and go an exercise - Exercise is key in losing the weight (imho) You start slowly and each week increase your time speed and inclines - like the saying goes "Just Do It" Yes as you become more healthier it does become easier - but once it becomes easier that's your sign to increase your intensity. Good Luck - but you gotta know that being banded does take a lot of work on your part - eating healthy - exercising etc. It will work as long as you do the work required to be sucessful... Wishing you the best..... -

Becky It's going to hurt a tad - I remember that when I first stood up i would be a little hunched over - I didn't have stairs so can't help there - suggesstion stay down stairs  your port site hurts the longest - 2-3 weeks. also I don't have a recliner so I slept in my bed - and it was a little slow getting out in the mornings.. Take your liquid tylenol - rest & walk - get your fluids & protein and give yourself time to heal - I was feeling pretty good by the 3rd & 4th day... -

Here is a link to an article about will power - in the magazine section of LBT. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f197/unraveling-myth-willpower-63089/#post839841 Hopefully it will help some of you just starting out. This is a lifetime lifestyle change it is NOT a quick fix to your issues with food - your issues with food are mental for the most part a lot of work must be done in that department for any of us to be successful. Skinny people get hungry too - my gosh hunger isn't going to kill you - it's not like you are never going to eat again - we aren't cavemen/women - we know where our next meal is coming from I still have carbs/starches - but now in a limited quantity - I stay away from bread - eat brown rice - whole wheat Pasta - but now I eat 1/2 cup not 2 cups for dinner. Give yourselves a calorie budget - then every time you eat you deduct your calories - I think this is a great learning tool - 1st for you to realize how many calories are in that tortilla or 1/2 cup of bean. and secondly you learn how to budget your treats into your diet occasionally. Most days I rather eat a turkey burger for 200 calories that a candy bar that isn't going to fill me up or give me any nutritional value - candy sweets etc wasted calories. This isn't to say that I totally avoid these things but I can tell you I may indulge once every couple of months. Again hunger isn't going to kill you but being obese is. Hungry - find a distraction - look at your calorie budget - figure out what you can eat in order to take the edge off (a couple of strawberries - a few nuts - an extra serving of veggies) (ALWAYS FOLLOW YOUR DOC'S EATING PLAN AND NOT WHAT OTHERS HERE DO) You all can succeed at this - Salsa & I reached our goals within a month or so of each other - she's 28 - I'm 53 - we both followed the rules - we both exercised - we both have made this a lifetime lifestyle change. If we can do it - so can all of you - you just gotta get your mind in the game -

Becky So happy to hear that you had an uneventful surgery and are on the road to recovery. You sound GREAT.. I had surgery on Tues and was back to work on Monday (desk job). Take it easy - walk and follow your doc's instructions - and you will do just fine. -
Good Morning !!!! Steph - Loved the pee in the corner  Just wait as you get older there are going to be 100 more snot noses in your life. Doc - Teachers - Lawyer - etc. I was on a jury a while back and I swear the DA & PD weren't more than 25 :woot: Karri - Yep our minds are wondrous things - you didn't say you were going to run so the message didn't get to your legs :w00t: - Union's - well I am not a big union person - they have their place but who's going to pay my bills when I have to strike.. Jackie - How did the doc appointment go??? I see it was quite last night - since I have a house full - haven't been able to get on the computer. Hopefully this Saturday they are going to see DIL mom & gm an hour away - so I may have sometime to myself... I did get to the gym - can't say it was much of a fight cuz I have to get out of the house - too many people - at the gym it's me and my ipod. They have gone thru 4 rolls of tp since Sunday (we were out last night) OMW - I don't know what they do with it - and then I sent GS to get some and he comes back with 1 ply :woot: - I guess I gotta teach him about tp :woot: Wasn't hungry last night - a rarity for me - had a ck thigh and popcorn - 900 calories yesterday and 3/4 of my water... Well off to see what's on the agenda today.. CBL:tongue:
