Linda Thanks for the props - I'm just a fat chick talking fat chick talk - we are are basically the same - we are diff in some ways - but all united by our obesity. We all know what that feels like - even when we put on the front that we are just fine and dandy as a fat chick - when in reality we are in such denial - We have convinced ourselves that we can't do it (lose weight - its too hard - whats the use it's all going to come back on) Well, the band makes the job easier and more doable than without. I am under my goal by 3 lbs as of right now - I will have the last 7 lbs gone by 7/17/08 Thanks again - It makes me feel good that I am able to help others - cuz I really do want all of you to feel as good as I do.. Hugs. Janet -
I agree 100% !!! I am living life now - doing things I wouldn't have done a year ago.. With this mindset - you will do good - think good thoughts every day this is the 1st day of the rest of your life - make it work - it is doable..

Noahsmomm This surgery does not work for everyone - it's not a guarantee. It's a tool only. For me it was the exact tool I needed to control my portions. How did that change my eating habits you ask.. Well for me I had major frickin surgery - I'm 53 yrs old - I want to extend my life. While on the mushie stage I came home tired and hungry - started to make some cream/white gravy for mashed potatoes(would be considered an allowed food at that stage sorta not low fat but a mushie)- as I was frying the bacon (yep pork fat ruled in my book) I look at it and said to myself - Janet you had major surgery and you are going to eat crap like this - you aren't going to win this war - you will continue down the road of self destruction - So I threw it out - NO MORE - YOU ARE DONE. I call my band my interior motivator - I would say for me this tool helps me use what I have learned in all my past attempts to lose the weight. I eat healthy 98% (low fat - mostly sugar free) I exercise 3-4 days a week. I allow for treats but they are within my daily calorie budget. I don't feel deprived at all. I feel 10 yrs younger - have 110% more energy. I didn't take having surgery as a quick fix or as a minor thing - I could have died on that operating table. For me I have had my AH HA MOMENT. I am only 10 months out - who knows were I will be next year at this time (will I still have this motivation or will I be struggling - for me it's one day at a time). But I know that I have my little motivator planned in my stomach. I know that food was my drug of choice and I have made up my mind that it will no longer control me (for me I think the battle against food is more mental than physical and that's where the real work has to be done) The band makes a hard job easier - but it doesn't do the work - you do. I feel full on a smaller portion of healthy food - junk food and sweets weren't major problems for me - it was my home cooked high fat diet large portions (1st - 2nds & 3rd) and lack of exercise. For me I think you have to want it bad enough - I think you have to prepare yourself that this is only a tool and that the majority of the changes that are needed are in your head and not your stomach.. Good Luck on your journey........

Ok Becky so the prilosec helped that's good - I take pecid chewables only when I get heart burn - I think I was able to sleep on my side by a week out or so - and no it's not going to hurt the band - just your incisions - I would move slowly to a side/tummy sleeping postition and once I got there i was ok - but everyone is diff - just take it slow - and talk to your doc this week. Hugs -
Phyl I told the kid's last night I want a family portriat before they leave. So we will see - if I can't get them all together - I will make them do it at home my camera has a timer... No rust silly girl - you really do look so much younger and very happy. It's hard to find clothes sometime - when you go looking you find nothing and then when you aren't you find everything - also alot of clothes for us older one can be to old - or too young - you want to look stylish but not like a teenager... Ruby I got you beat 113 yesterday - we broke records from 86 - it suppose to cool down - but that's cuz the STUPID wind is suppose to pick up. I DISLIKE the wind - I would rather have it hot than windy. Karri - Hugs Hugs Hugs. Well, just saying GOOD MORNING - CBL
-
Phyl Great Picture and Steph is right you really can see the weight loss - and you are still tanned  I will try and get a pic of my whole family while they are here and post it.

No you are dumb you just don't watch Racheal Ray - that's what she calls it - most of us fatties were big food channel watchers . I use I can't beleive it's not butter margrine - 3 or 4 scalllops depending on the size - in about 2 table spoons 1 tablespoon margrine tablespoon garlic powder - california style is what it's called here.- cook about 2 1/2 min on one side then flip them for another minute or 2 I am one of those cooks who really doesn't measure or time - I just cook. DIL is on the mend - she goes to get her staples out tomorrow - She is doing good - slow and scared but doing good all things considered.- thanks for asking - my 13 yr gd is dieing cuz they are moving - you know the end of the world - and I haven't lost my sanity yet - so that's saying something -

Becky I just talked to my DIL who is a nurse too - sounds like you may be having some gas bubbles.. My xdh had that problem too - what are you eating before bed.. do you have a cpap machine - do you sleep on your back. Not much help here but trying  -
Songinmysoul Take the word diet out of your vocabulary - diets don't work - what happens when you go off your diet - you gain all your weight back plus some - This is a Lifetime Lifestyle change in your eating habits - this isn't about dieting - though diet is the correct word for what ever you eat - be it fast food or healthy food but diet has such a bad connotation to it. This is about change the way you think and feel about food - it's no longer your medication but something you must do to live - you will learn to eat to live not live to eat - Food will lose it's power over you. IHMO I feel that 75% of the work is up to you (mental & physical exercise) and that the band will do 25% of the job restricting your portions - but you have to eat healthy and not around the band. Good Luck and I am glad that you have discovered that the band is not the magic cure to your issues with food and I really don't think that any of us have had the weight fall off - without doing the work. I don't like it to be know that I am banded - then my weight loss will be discounted - I have worked HARD at eating healthy and exercising my butt off - It would have been so much easier to eat around my band - but had I - I would be at the same place I started and not the healthier, more active - feeling 10 yrs younger person that I have become. My best to you Also - it's not that you can't do it - it's that you think you can't - Take the words HOPE out of your vocabulary and replace with I WILL - Positive reinforcement...

We were all strangers at one time - but thru LBT I have made lifetime friendships and even gained a daughter who has done EXCELLENT.. And will be giving you some great advice shortly My calories for you breakfast lunch & snack were only off by 100 approx and I feel it's better to estimate higher than lower - cuz if you guess that you ate 500 and only really ate 400 you are ahead of the game and not behind the 8 ball by going over. I can't tell you not to follow your doctors orders - But my doc want's me eating food and not drinking it. If you ate a more substanial breakfast - even some eggbeater with veggies and some ff cheese - it will stay with you longer than a shake will I keep a food diary - count calories and protein (i'm suppose to have 60 grms of pt a day) I too am a night time eater - but I usually don't have Snacks in the daytime - I save them for night - because if I didn't I would probably blow my carlorie budget - so that's a suggestion too - don't eat your day time snacks if you don't have too - save them for night so you don't blow your budget - I keep my calories around 900 - 1200 - I don't do atkins - but I do limit my starches to night - my 1/2 c rice with dinner and my popcorn - I use I can't beleive it's not butter spray for rice, veggies, Pasta etc - I use a little evoo on my fish (which is what I eat most nights) I don't do much salads cuz I don't like the fat free dressings - and the real ones have too many calories - but if I do I use my old ww trick of diping fork in dressing 1st and then into salad. Try white ground turkey for your chilli or ground chicken - less calories than beef and very good - it's what I use. I use lite mayo not the fat free stuff - but I don't eat much of anything that needs mayo - I have done egg salad before - using mustard and lite mayo - i think you didn't need the evoo in it:tongue: - when I cook eggs or eggbeater is with pam not oil. I have a scale in which I weight & measure my foods - I have a little bowl that holds only 1 cup - I eat off sandwich plates not regular plates. Snowbird's right about low fat having more sugar and that's why I don't like the lowfat dressings - I don't really buy low fat - cuz I eat food that I prepare and not processed foods.
-
Hugs - Hugs - Hugs Know that you and your family are in my thoughts for a positive outcome You will make the decision that is best for you and your family Good Luck and sorry of your pain - I have been their and done that - my heart goes out to you..

I'll let Salsa do the real math - but here's my guesstimate BF 200 calories - was it low fat cheese Lunch- 350 calories - again high in fat and carbs Dinner - Chili 1 cup 250 (did you use turkey or hamburger) Snack CC 80 - Blue Cheese 150 (fat free or regular) Snack Melon & CC - 200 calories Approx 1230 for the day guestimate - that's pretty high if you arent exercise due to your knee & being sick Here's my Menu example BF - Weight Control oatmeal 160c or yogurt w/granola 1/4 cup 160 c lunch - Veggies & protein 200 Calories Dinner - 4 oz fish 150 c 1/2 c rice 120 c - veggies 25 calories 3 snacks a day - 100 c popcorn - 80 calorie sf fudgecicle - 60 c sf pudding - watermelon 100c - peach 100 c - strawberries 50 c I keep my caloires between 900 - 1200 but I exercise - 3 - 4 days a week too ... 2 days cardio & 2 days weights - this has worked for me since day one - I have had only 1 week in 10 months where I did not lose 1 lbs I eat sugar free for the most part - low fat - limited carbs
-
Karri - can you get your band surgeron to order the test that way it would be covered by insurance and your PCP won't help you out - some of those test can be expensive .. Question for the Ladies; Men you can answer too
IndioGirl55 replied to Ann D's topic in The Gals' Room
AnnD - is about the whole PC mindset now a days - some people might think they are comming on to you or trying to hit on you.. My whole office knew that I got banded and I get complements from the guys all the time (they are all like brothers to me) heck I have worked with them for 20+ yrs - In fact today one of the owners came up to me and said I was looking good since I lost weight - I said to him "Oh you thought I was ugly 10 months ago" He laughted and left... Even fat I dressed and looked good for a fat chick - now I look extra good in my size 8 white capris... -
I am glad to know that I am not the only one who dislikes that lapband commercial - they make it look easy - It's not easy - but it easier than trying to do it without the help of the band... And yes I Said No - you will find that most successfull banders are going to give you tough band love - but imho - it's what works - you gotta do a lot of mental work to make this a lifetime lifestyle change and you gotta exercise - Prior to getting a trainer I did 4-5 days of cardio - now with trainer 2 days with him and 2 carido..
-
I agree 100% - hell you are getting your body in shape - I would think the more mucsle you have the better you will be after your surgery - I really don't understand the logic on wanting you to stop losing the weight - heck you are as tall as me and 120 (not saying that you want to go this thin - but I was there once upon a time in my early 20's and I was HOT) is a good weight for someone our height.. So I just don't understand. Since you are our marathon girl - look at all the people who run - they are on the thin side... You do what you think is best for you- but if you go below 120 - I am going to get after you ok - I will fly up to Oregon and take you out to eat:biggrin:
-
This whole site is a mentoring group - all you have to is go to the before & after section - or life at goal section and ask for help. The band works once you have proper restriction - imho 75% of the work is up to you - your food choices & exercise habits - Also, mentoring group is also the month you were banded - ie January 2008 - you all should be sharing your banding experience - support etc. Just ask and you will get the help that you are looking for.

Steph I want to be skinny too - in fact my 12 yr old great niece said Saturday - Aunt Janet you are so tiny (again 157 isn't tiny by any imagination but it's 93 lbs less than before) What to serve with scallops - the kabobs is a good idea - Wild Rice to serve with them I usually have them over white rice - you know when they are done they turn from clear white to a creamy white (opek ??)
-
Steph - Your family is going to see you as skinny even though the scales says 165 which we know isn't skinny - but compared to what we were people now consider us skinny - I had a gf here at work tell me I didn't need to lose anymore weight (this was at 160) I was getting too skinny there is no way that 160 is too skinny - but I am seen like that. As far as your Mom is concerned to her size 8 is fat - when I was at ww and someone came in wanting to lose 15 lbs - we all just shook our heads saying ya that's what we wish 15 lbs why bother you look fine - but that's how thin people do it - they don't let it get to 100 lbs that needs to be lost. Your Mom with be healthier going to the gym - exercise helps with our bones etc and as we get older we need to keep our muscles - so many older pple fall and hurt themselves as their legs aren't as strong - As to the sore butt - i can relate last weekend sitting on the metal bleachers at the concert hurt my butt - felt like I had been riding a horse:tongue: Hugs your are not irrational - you are normal

Teri Sometimes the extra calories helps the scales - I know weird but true just like the weeks that I may only get to the gym 2 times - thats the week I see the scale move the most. Glad to hear you had a good time. -

NaniRose - I love my band - and you can lose weight fast with the band too - if you eat healthy and exercise - My doc says that I have lost the weight like a gbp person. It's all about how you work it.. I too didn't want the malabsorbstion problems dump etc - I was an over eater - mostly regular foods - not fast foods or sweets and I was a total slug bug. The band was/is a perfect fit for me as what I needed help with is the portions. Brenda - You are too kind - Thanks !!!! I have been told recently that I was to harsh, preachy and condensending... Becky - You too - what a sweet thing to say... You guys just have to pay it forward... Bev - Yep I eat off a sandwich plate - I use condiment silverware or my granddaughters baby silverware - tiny bites - the size of a pencil eraser - chew the crap out of it - and eat slowly - If you take big bites and try to eat fast you are going to get stuck - slime and pb... No drinking with meals (or 1/2 hr before or after per my doc - but each is diff) This is the banding way of eating... I still have a tough time eating slowly sometimes but my band will remind me real fast. Bomber57 - CONGRATS 55 LBS THAT GREAT Lynn You still have a life to live and even skinny people over eat on occasion - but that's the key work Occasion - see how your mindset has already changed - back on track with your eating and exercise - in the past you would have just come home and continued to eat and eat - See things do change and and the band did prevent you from REALLY overdoing it. Good Job !! -
Candice - A little EVOO Margrine Garlic in a saute pan - and put it over rice Karri - CONGRATULATION on the Run  CONGRATULATION ON 100 LBS:party: It's not a fluke - it's your exercise  I like the free food days - those are the days that you should go out to eat... Weekly cooking - It was 10 last night and I realize I didn't cook for my weekly lunch - Having all these pple at my house has really thrown me off my routine. Saturday - Went food shopping - came home and Family came and 5 kids -5 grown kids and me - so BBQ and swam - Watched movie Sat night had a small piece of Choc Cake - (within caloried ) Yesertday - home depot - planed some flowers (the top of my head is sunburned - 110 degrees yesterday) - swam - watched 2 movies - cooked - had another small 2 sq inches of choc cake (again within calories but pb's a little on it:ohmy:) Tonite I am going to have to cook for the week... Denise - Were you out there cheering??? My BP med is tiny so I am lucky no problems with pills Phyl - I saw that you were having good weather due to some high - that is causing our HOT weather... I am going to hate to see my elect bill next month Weekly cooking - It was 10 last night and I realize I didn't cook for my weekly lunch - Having all these pple at my house has really thrown me off my routine. Saturday - Went food shopping - came home and Family came and 5 kids -5 grown kids and me - so BBQ and swam - Watched movie Sat night had a small piece of Choc Cake - (within caloried ) Yesertday - home depot & target - planed some flowers (the top of my head is sunburned - 110 degrees yesterday) - swam - watched 2 movies - cooked - had another small 2 sq inches of choc cake (again within calories but pb's a little on it:ohmy:) Tonite I am going to have to cook for the week..
