Good Morning Gang - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO ALL OF US - IT'S JULY 1 AND WE WERE ALL BANDED IN JULY As I was having my coffee this morning - I was thinking about us (omw 5 am and guess who I am thinking about - Lucky #7 Gang - You really are my family) Well this is another thing I learned this weekend - and it goes back to the earlier post about this being a life time battle.. We (our bodies) are loaded springs - if we go back to eating like we did it will only take a second for us to gain our weight back - I wish I could put it as good as the Dr did - but that's sorta what he said. We have pulled the spring down in losing the weight - but it won't take much to snap that spring back to where it was - so we always will have to be conscience of what we eat.. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Yes Candice you can print and share !!! Karri - Great Stats for a 1st time runner who 1 yr ago weighed 250 and was a total slug bug... Phyl - Yes you can have some wine too - We all will have a little drinkie poop to celebrate our Anniversary and meeting (well we will pretend that it's our first) Oh ya - whats up you all get on the computer late - I got off 8:46 and you all pop in Steph Meeting was great - not much to report though (plus I signed a nondisclosure form) they wanted our opinion on stuff - but that's about it. And I can tell you for personal experience that as we lose those sizes drop really fast - I know that it took forever to get from a 16 to 14 but getting from a 12 to a 10 goes really fast and so does 10 to 8 - as little as 5 lbs will change your size now - it's really funny I haven't lost a great deal in the last month but my 8's are baggy especially in the legs. Yes we will keep you accountable and kick your butt when needed but always with love and intentions of helping you be successful - just like you would do for us.. That's what us Lucky #7 are all about - Support Kari - Congrats on the Jeans - You are doing so good.. Phyl - Some had said flying tightens you - but when I got home on Sunday GS wanted Wennershistzal (sp) so we stopped - I was hungry no lunch - so I ordered a mustard dog - ate 3/4 of the bread and the whole hot dog - didn't have a problem - but last night had filet mignon from costco and got stuck - after the dog I though omw I could use a tad of a fill - but then last night steak & spinach and was done (no rice last night - after the candy this weekend I have to make little adjustments - see i practice what i preach ) Ok it's time for me to get in the shower - It's a short week for me - Yea... so I will ck back when I get to work.. Hugs everyone

11 months 1 week - 100 lbs Gone

Myturn - I want you to edit this post and replace the word hope with the words I WILL - I really mean this - positive affirmations - it's part of the key - if you keep telling yourself you are stupid then you will beleive it - if you keep telling yourself you are smart - what's going to happen I don't know why it's only negative self talk that we exchange with ourselves - it should always be posittive... You will write your story and you will help others - that's what this is all about - paying it forward... Hugs... Janet - Now go edit that post and rewrite your words -
Beckyo Nothing really to report on that front - plus I had to sign a non-disclosure form - so really can't talk about it - but they just wanted banded pples input on our experiences and how it can help them in their stuff about the lapband.. But did learn alot about Obesity the Disease.. Ok to your issues - first and foremost put the blessed scale away right now - immediately!!!! You pick one day a week and only on that day get on the scale and record that weight.... I can get on the scale every hour and every hour weight a diff weight. As you heal your restriction is going to decrease as the swelling from surgery goes down - your appetite will return - it is a misnomer IMHO that the band takes away all your hunger even when properly restricted which you aren't yet - You will alway have some hunger issues be it mental or physical and it will take time to learn the diff. The diff with the band is now you are going to make healthy food choices - eat Protein first - and you will be full on a smaller amount of food. You can't compare yourself to others either - all of our metabolism are diff. Someone may lose 10 lbs the first month then hit a plateau - or others may lose .5 lbs a week for 3 weeks and then drop 2 or 3 in the next - this is why I say put the scale away and don't for gosh darn sake worry about 4 or 6 oz ... You are going to sabotage yourself with that kind of thinking. I have a friend Phyl (you know her from the 50's thread) she may not lose for a week or 2 then in drop big numbers.. I have been pretty consistent in my weight lost - but it's just my body - we are all so very diff... Do you know how many calories you are consuming?? You are doing good on the exercise - have you taken your measurements if not do so tonite or tomorrow - chest - tummy - hips - thigh's - arms then in 3 months I want you to take them again. Sometimes our weight lost doesn't show on the scale - but it will show in our clothes and measurements - there are more ways than just the scale to measure your success - You might not have immediate results that you want - but remember as long as you keep up with the exercise and eating healthy within your calorie budget then pounds will come off - 2 lbs in one week is great that's the average 1-2 lbs a week - but some weeks I just lost 1/2 lbs As to the pouch vs football - you know what the band looks like on the stomach - that band is where your restriction is - food flows Thur that hole - liquids - mushies and super soft foods slide right thru (ie slider foods) this is why when you get to regular food you are always told to eat hard Proteins (real food/meat) in tiny bites and chew - this food has more substance and won't slide thru the band - it's going to stay in your new tummy (pouch) for a while til it goes down - ie the whole principle of the band you get full on a smaller amount of food. You get stuck or bp when you have taken a big bite and not chewed it and it gets stuck in that hole and your body is going to try and make it go down by producing more saliva (slime) to push it thru - some times it works others times it doesn't and you will pb - also if you eat too fast or too much it will back up and cause you to bp or slime. All you can really do to insure your sanity - is #1 stay off the scale on a daily basis - #2 eat healthy on all food stages (I really suggest logging your calories to really know how many you are getting daily) #3 exercise If you do all these things and don't have any other medical problems the weight will come off - you have to remember that us 50+ girls have yo-yo'd dieted so much that we have really messed with our metabolisms and some of us are just slower losers that others - You also know athinnerdenise - she has lost slowly - but she keeps plugging away and it has come off... Hugs - Now put the scale away :lol: It's way past my dinner time and I am a little hunger - so of to eat - and get ready for tomorrow - if I didn't get all your questions answered or caused a whole nother set let me know... Hugs Janet

Steph This was talked about this weekend too - fattening crap is cheap (this is why when we see so many over weight poor pple it's cuz you can get 10 top ramens for $1.00) Don't you always wonder why some one who is obese is in line at a soup kitchen - you think - well omw they are huge how can they be poor and not have enought to eat - it's what they are eating - which is purchased cuz it's cheap - - Light bulb went off in my head - cuz that's what I always thought when I would see a big person on tv in the soup kitchen line - like ya why are you there - you have $$$ for food - well not really it's crap they are buy and those foods are the bullets in that loaded gun Oh ya I wanted to tell you that I too can get stuck on watermellon and I love it - and yes - what we think today as eating bad - really isn't...

Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?
IndioGirl55 replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yep it's no diff that African Americans have prejudice in there race about lighter skinned vs darker skin - Mexicans the same way - or as something as simple as who has more $$ rich can think they are better than the poor Jachut - Well said !!! it's up to the individual - some choose to say Enough and others don't - I had the pleasure to listen Dr Richard Dixon speak this weekend - it was motivational and inspiring - you Aussie have a better health care system that us American's - Maybe we can take a page from your book Ok this whole selfpay vs insurance issue - just sorta bugs me - no offense to you Nanook - I have read this many times over on other threads "Well I am self pay so I am going to work harder" IMHO that's BS - we are all self pay when it came to WW - Jenny Craig or whatever program we went on etc - did we succeed NOPE. Ya selfpayers are going into debit for this but I don't think that's really going to make a diff - it's all about what you want the person- if like Jachut said about - if you are ready to just say Enough - just cuz I had insurance that covered it (but you also have to take into consideration even though you have insurance depending on your plan you can have considerable copays) do I take it for granted NOPE - I just don't think the statement Self Payer are going to work harder does mean to say that if you did have insurance to cover it you wouldn't work it the same way. Again no offense directed at you Nanook - just talking on the point of self pay vs insurance in general.. -
Yes it's that all or nothing mentallity that we have to change - it's all about moderation - balance - but for us foodies it's going to be a lifetime balancing act for us. Yes bypass pple can get banded - I hear about it this weekend - someone had a friend who had bypass and then was banded..

Ok girls - I am back and I want to tell you both something - We have to say no for the rest of our lives... It's not about being fair - it's about living a healthy life. Oh my notes are at work - but Obesity is a disease. We are pre-disposed to have it - it's in us and the gun is load. It's just the way it is.. No we weren't the lucky ones who can eat every thing and not gain weight - they are few and far between - 64% of America (or the world i forget) is obese... You don't have to say No for the rest of your life - you just can't say yes on a daily basis... You can have treats - but it's all about the balance. We can't think of this as a diet - we really really have to think of this as a way of life. Remember Diets don't work - even this weekend the professionals said it negative words - like diet must be replaced with Healthy eating.. Exercise replaced with physical activity - to me it's all just a name and as the saying goes - a thing is still a thing no matter what name you give it. Our bodies were built for the caveman era - but now with cars, tv, food at our disposal 24/7 and portion sizes have quadrupled in the last 20 yrs - the whole transfat issues - refined carbs - sugar - our bodies weren't made to eat all this junk and not do any physical exercise I messed up on Friday night - the room was stocked with junk - just had snacks at the meet & greet & a glass of wine by the time I got back to my room (had to drop $20 in a machine ) I was tried and hungry - but it was too late to order food which was $$$ and had no way of reheating it later - so I got into the reese pb piece - Ok not good - tired & hungry all food triggers for me - well you know what - I did it - didn't feel too bad about it - cuz even eating healthy 98% of the time - I can allow for that 2% of junk - well I walked - meeting rooms on the other side of hotel - and i was in heels - ate a lite bf - lunch - dinner and on Saturday they restocked the candy - but I didn't touch it or the cookies.. Why cuz I knew I had indulged the night before and had ate 1/2 of the mini muffin size dessert at dinner - and this 100 lbs is gone and I don't want it back. If you go back saying yes more than you say no and you don't keep a balance - it's going to come back on... We have to fight this battle forever - don't think that when you get to goal it's over - no it's not about the scale moving down wards anymore it's about maintaining and to maintain you will have to say no more than yes ... Ok enough of me on my soap box --- what did Ruby call me the thread mommy or something like that So you all know this is said with love from the bottom of my heart.. Steph - Congrats on maintaining your weigh for 3 weeks when you were out of your element - That in it's self is a big accomplishment and all your exercise - Way to go girl... You will get back on track.. Linda - Nine pounds to go - You can do it you know you can - you will be there by the time of our trip - how can we motivate you to strive for it.. Lets see - what can I bribe you with - oh ya - remember we are getting you the Mother of the Groom dress.. so that you will shine on your Son's wedding day (I am right it's your son getting married ) and if that doesn't work - I will buy you your drink of choice for dinner when we all get together - (I know Karri - I shouldn't be bribing with food or drink but I know my GF likes her cocktails )

IndioGirl55 replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Froggie I miss read the title of the thread - MY BAD - I edited my previous post.. go see it... I think we have predujuci within in our own fat socitey - The person who weighs 175 thinks they aren't as bad as the person who weights 250 and the 300 lbs chick think shes better than the one who weighs 400 It's each person perspective - ... -

IndioGirl55 replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My bad - I thought you were talking about pple who had either 200+ lbs to lose vs those who had 200- to lose - heck just got back from vegas tired - and by reading the last few post this has gotten quite heated discussion... I guess I need to slow down - yep I do know a girl who went to Mexico - has 30 lbs to lose - got the surgery and hasn't really lost cuz she drinks - no she didn't need it - but she had the $$$ and it's hers to waste anyway she wants. I don't care... It was smart of you to put this in the rant's and rave section cuz I find it sort of prejudicial - I know pple who have lost 250 lbs with the help of their tool the band - and no I didn't need to lose 200 lbs to get to a healthy weight - so do I take it that you think pple who have 175 - 150 - 125 - 100 or even 75 lbs don't deserve the band - I haven't read all 7 pages of this thread - but do find a little reverse prejudiced in title of this tread It is all relative imho - 100 lbs for me maybe your 200 lbs - who is anyone here to judge or decide anothers future based on a stupid # of pounds that need to be lost - if you weigh 500 lbs and lose 200 - you are still most likely morbidly obese by anyones standards - but you are doing better at 300 than 500. Each and everyone of us is different - and will decide what's best for us For me it's to get to a healthy weight for my age, height - stature etc - to be more active - to get off my blood pressure meds - cpap machine and being able to move - walk - live period to have a quality of life that I didn't have 100 lbs ago.. Fat is fat no matter if it's 100, 200 , 300 etc - who is to say who deserves the surgery and doesn't - Obesity Understand, Awareness & sensitivity training is needed and this rant - rave is a good example of why it's needed -

Long Congrats on moving out of the morbidly obese catergory - Us morbidly obese pple get what it is to move to "Just Obese" as being a great thing - You need to up your calories - 500 is not enough - I can't explain the science - but your body does hold on to the fat for days that you don't get food (think cavement who didn't eat 24/7 like we do today) You may not need a fill - my doc doesn't give them if you are losing well.. Keep up posted on your cat scan. Welcome - JD - We have ton's of 60 + who are banded - you will do well. Beckyo - Glad you are doing good - Yep put the scale away - I am not getting on til next week - I didn't do bad - had 3 glasses of wine but that was pretty much it - well except that I hit the reese pieces candies in my room on friday  - This is why I practice avoidance - I was tired after traveling - meet & greet and that's a bad thing for me - the room is stocked with crap - and I ate them - but only on friday - no more after that - and have been good about eating all other meals - so don't feel to bad - just a little dissappointed - but I am human and even skinny pple eat candy every now an then and that was my every now and then. Glad to hear Sharon - being to tight is worse than being too lose Thanks Peaches - I got tons of complements from total strangers - even a man (who was with his wife ) told me what a pretty dress.. Nancy - I think you really need to up your calories 300 is not enought - how are you getting all your protein in on 300-500 calories??? 900 to 1200 and vary them daily and I agree you are eating a lot of high salt foods - get on the scale only once a week - and note NONE OF US EVER UPDATE TICKER WHEN WE HAVE A GAIN :tt2::lol: (I gained a pound when I went to my sisters earlier this month - it took a week + to get it off - but I didn't update my tickers ) to reflect the gain:tongue2:) -

Catarina I don't know if anyone responded - and I am a day late and dollar short - but here is the info for future use - hopefully you won't need it 1st - we are not suppose to take pills - without cutting them up - Vitamins should be the chewable kind. You did get stuck - after something like that (you have irritation) - you need to go back to full liquids for a couple days - and eat ice chips - to reduce the swelling... (this is per my doc and in no way to replace what your doc says) Love that disclaimer I have only pb's when something got stuck but not afterwords and since I am not a doc - you may want to call them and ask them what you should do - Go buy centruim chewables or go to Bariatric Advantage and buy their chewable lapband vitamins. -
Ocbreeze4u Congratulations 7/17 is a good date - I was bonded 7/17/07 - today 100 lbs lighter :frown: Also, we are almost neighbors Prayers for a safe surgery & speed recovery....

Hope - You can do it !!!! If I can - anyone can - cuz we are all a little diff but basically the same Hugs... Janet -
Long - it was good - I really can't report much signed a non disclosure form - but to say they just wanted our opinion and input on marketing more or less for the band - no great trade secerts or anything like that - but I did get to meet some really nice pple.. What you did was normal - don't freak too much - just be happy it didn't stick - I forget about my band even now - and will do the same thing.... I will do this when I am really hungry - like right now.. I have had 3 bits of sandwich - and am feeling a little pressure. So what I have to do is slow down - For me I know right away if it's getting stuck on a bite like that - even sometimes it's the 3rd bite that will do it for me - and sometimes it goes right down. It takes a long time for our old habits to go away - and they never really do - they just go down below our radar and will pop up every now and then. I saw those hot links last time I was at costco - but they didn't have samples - My family likes the Farmer John ones - I use to love them too but the skin just doesn't agree with me anymore - and that's my fav part the ends.. I will cut the insides of one and put it in my eggbeaters.. I think that I started getting hungry too about 4 weeks - but even though I didn't have tons of restriction had some... Shopping while hungry - even with proper restriction is a no - no imho as then we tend to buy stuff we shouldn't - since I didn't get home last night until like 5:30 and notthing to cook for dinner or lunch today - went to the store and got lite bread - ham - 2% cheese dijon mustard - 200 cal sandwich - but started to look at other stuff - but said no - just don't look - also when I am hungry I forget I am banded and think i can eat all this food - but really I know I can - I guess wishful thinking cuz I do miss eating sometimes Glad that you are doing good though - sounds like you have the right mindset - Keep up the good work...:frown:

Welcome Gail - I was 52.5 when I was banded - have lost 100 lbs in 11 months 1 week - go back a page or 2 and you will see the pic's I posted - the secert - lifetime lifestyle change in your eating and exercise habits - healthy food choice and daily exercise I think once you replied that this link will show up in your subscibed threads & User CP Lynn you are doing GREAT !!! iKeep up the good work  if you are losing that much weight your doc may not fill you.. in the beginning I think we get phyiscologiclly addicted to fills - it really doesn't matter how much you have in your band it depends on your restriction- how much are you eating per meal - at what point to you get full.. I will tell you from personal experience you never want to be too tight - it is awful - once was enough for me - and again our bands can be very fickle - one day loose the next day tight - last night made 2 eggs couldn't eat them all.. Yes I love the beach too - as a child every summer we vacationed at the beach - I would live there (on the ocean) but dont' have $5 mil for a shack:lol: -
Linda - You are such a wonderful person for all the community work you do.. How's the mentoring of that girl?? How's the spanish going? Congrats on the NSV (and yes it was) that's pretty cool and nice that DH asked you - don't know if he gives you props often - but that was one imho -------------------------------------------------------------- Good Morning Gang I got my packing done last night - do you know that this whole liquid crap in a QUART size bag - OMG - I don't know how the expect a WOMAN to get all her makeup (face mascara lipsticks eyeliner)- hairspray - gel - lotions - wrinkle creams - eye cream - deodorant - toothpaste - shampoo - perfume all in that little bag. (Yes gang I am a makeup junkie - beauty junkie) Yes I know that this rule is only for carryon - but I am just going for the weekend have a small bad no need to check - this is just a dumb rule imho.. My quart bag is stuffed - I hope they don't make me throw stuff away.. Well, plan on going to the gym in a bit - since I won't get to exercise tomorrow - but I am not as addicted to it as our darling Karri - I am sorta tired this morning - went to bed around 11:30 last nite up at 6 so hopefully this coffee kicks in. Sorta getting nervous about this weekend - I really don't know anyone and we have a whole group who knows each other coming from KS - I will do fine I know it - but you guys would never ever believe this I am a little on the shy side.. I know that I don't come across that way - but that's my cover up - I play like I am the confident women - but really inside I am a 2 yr old.. Also here is another interesting fact about me that you wouldn't know - I am an introvert - yes me - after all this play like a grown up - I am going to be wiped out.. And again - it's the whole thing about still being a fat chick in my head - But I will plug forward and over come these issues - I do practice what I preach - Fake it til you Make it :w00t: Well - it's 7 need to get my butt in gear - well maybe another cup of coffee - I have to leave here around 10:30 -11 to get to airport by 11:30 - plane leaves at 1 - this whole thing about getting to airport to sit around for 2 hrs - again stupid... P S airport isn't big and this time of yr shouldn't be busy - but this was the first place that made me take my thong sandals off - ya right like I had a bomb in them OMG I am turning the news off - stock market tumbles - gas $7 - this is the reason that everything is such a mess - if the news would report positive stuff then maybe things would be at least a little more positive and not so negative ... OK - going to get dressed - will cbl:tongue: If I don't - I love you all - will miss you guys (will go thru withdrawls 2 day without lbt)

Hey there Nicnaknut-we've missed !!! Glad to see you back Thanks for the props - no not going anywhere - I gotta stay on my LBT it's my transfer addiction.. It keeps me honest... Yep I talked to my Doc about giving Phyl a fill when she was here last winter -but he wanted like $750 if not a thousand - it is totally unreasonable imho - what if you move how do you find a doc to take over your care - we don't have fillcenter in our area. I think Phyl did find one in Riverside who would do it - but she was about to go home so she waited. Carol Thanks so much !!! Where have you been - How are you doing??? Sharon you are too tight - if you have been throwing up it has been suggested at my support group to eat ice chips to reduce the swelling - call your doctor tomorrow - you should not be pbing on water... Gwenn Thanks so much !!! I have tried sushi once since being banded it didn't agree with me I think I ate 2 piece of the fish and 1 bite of rice - and for $15 that was to much $$ for so little food - so I won't be going there again for a while - pizza I can do 1 piece.. Congrats on the 42 lbs that's great.. Well, gang gotta go finish packing - leaving for Vegas tomorrow be back Sunday - will ck in on Sunday if not too tired... Be Good - Make Good Food Choice TTYL Hugs Janet
