when did you start solids?
IndioGirl55 replied to lynnie77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It has nothing to do with how much weight you have to lose - It has to do with the stomach healing around the band - your stomach is stiched around the band and until that heals you can cause a slip (stiches come undone). This is why you can not eat until your doc tells you - when the stomach digest food it moves - that movement is what can cause a slip until you are healed. -
when did you start solids?
IndioGirl55 replied to lynnie77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lynnie No we don't know why each doc gives diff instruction - but what we do know is that you have to follow your doctors orders I had to do 10 days each phase - you are in bandster hell - the time between healing and getting your 1st fill. We all have been there - You can do this - follow your doc's rules Suggestion if you are extra hungry - eat extra veggies - zuchinee cooks up real soft and mixed with a little can't beleive it's not butter spray - it will be low in calories and filling... -
Study Suggests Food Tracking = Double Weightloss
IndioGirl55 replied to FeliciaLevy75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been keeping a food diary for almost 12 months now - and I beleive that it is one of the reasons for my success - I think it's a great learning tool - will I do it for the rest of my life no.. But if I start to gain - yes I will go back to tracking .. -
How easy or difficult has it been to lose weight with Lap Band?
IndioGirl55 replied to photo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree with Bozzi- for me it's been extremly easy - but again I have had my ah ha moment when I went under the knife to get this surgery. I have never ever attained a goal in all my previous attempts to lose weight - with the help of the band I have ... But again my head is totally in the game - this is a lifetime lifestyle change in eating healthy and physical activity.. -
KARI - HUGS - YOU HAVE LOST 100 LBS - YOUR BODY IS GOING TO SLOW DOWN IT'S LOST YOU CAN NOT - DO YOU HEAR ME CAN NOT GIVE UP !!!! YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE UP !!!! This is not a diet - it is a new healthy way of living our lives so we can be around a few more years to enjoy our grandchildren - to give us a better qualility of life (more mobility) Remember we are all the little train that could - we just have to keep plugging away at this.... Some days are harder than others - but that's why we have each other. YOU CAN NOT GIVE UP !!!!
-
Darling one word - Hot - you are going to be HOT !!! Steph - some days I have that problem too. Another problem is being full and still wanting to eat - I struggle with that daily - well mostly nightly but still - the whys totally escape me - I was thinking about it last night after dinner and I still wanted to eat... It's the whole they didn't band our heads and that's where the problem lies..... If you figure it out let me know cuz almost 1 yr later I haven't Ok let us know when you book - you will have enough Mom's you will be the baby of the group  and your dh won't be with us when we visit the QVC Store . Ssankofa - I think that journaling is a big big learning tool and it is a proven fact that pple who keep a food diary do better than those who don't - You are doing great on your exercise- Keep up the good work. Phyl - I would hate trading scales - I go by my scale at home not the doc's cuz I weigh less on mine

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Google 5 day pouch test - it's really for bypasser but at my support they said it was good for us banders too . Essentially you go back to post op diet - liquids for a week then mushies then soft then regular - That is if I remember it correctly... google it and you will find it and it will explain it better - remember the title of the thread 50+ - senior moments all the time -
There you go - group rate - group recovery home for a week - that's the ticket...
-
Karri - I don't see any pooch on top - I have seen others tt results on here and they don't look as good as yours do... To bad I just can't say ok here I am do surgery - I am going to look into it seriously when I get back from MofA trip - maybe get my arms at least done thanksgiving time - gotta see about the cost.... But really you look fantastic !!!

Carol - it's true about the slider foods - that's why so many pple are able to eat around their bands - Not drinking hasn't even been too much of problem for me - but I have to watch the carb/starches (I'm Old School) I allow them but limited - They are our biggest comfort food and I would self medicate to sleep with them - I may have some in the morning but like 1/4 c granola in my yogurt and oatmeal in the morning - lunch is usually protien & veggies - dinner protein veggies 1/2 c rice - but in the old days it would be 2 cups rice pasta mashed potatoes - I would make a meal of starches & fats (my 2 fav things) in the past - but no more. Glad to hear you are back on track - this is a learning process and it will be a lifetime struggle not to fall back into old habit.. Yep GF you need a fill... My first experience with lobster got a llittle stuck and for the appetizer - omg i really try and stay away from them - mose of your meal except the lobster was slider foods but totally agree you are in need of a fill.. Good Luck on thrusday it's funny closer we get to our goal we see that we can attain it and move it lower - I just didn't want to set myself up for failure - but it's so doable. Penny - yep I agree with the bmi chart not being use to fit all - I am told I look 120 that I a piette - I have always carried my weight well (evenly distribuated) also we have to take the whole age factor into consideratin too - -
Steph - Yep homewood suites at mall of america - .. 7/25 arriving - leaving Monday 7/28 - that gave us full days together Kathy Sorry to hear about the loss of your job... Thats terrible, but like my dad always said something better will come along - I got let go - lady said she couldn't afford my salary $104 a week in 1979 - well, that when I got my current job - this wed 7/9 i will be there 29 yrs.. Congrats on making it to goal ahead of your anniversary... That awesome.. Hugs Janet

OMG KARRI WHAT A WONDERFUL TT YOU GOT !!!! YOU ARE 4 DAYS OUT AND YOU LOOK FABULOUS !!!! JUST WAIT TILL THE SWELLING GOES DOWN YOU ARE GOING TO BE A WAIF... I am going to have to come to see your doc for my arms... She did a wonderful job - I could come a stay with you and since your dh has already practiced on you he could change my arm bandages. Does she do body lifts??? I would love the works... Really - you look absolutely great for 4 days out - I am so happy for you...

Charlene - Yes - lbt is the greatest - and you are so correct it's what we do with our band - it's all about changing our eating habits & increasing our physical activity... The band really does make the job of controlling our portions easier.. Jb - That was a big fill - suggestion don't go to regular food right away - ease back into to it - have soft mushie foods for your first few meals to see how you tolerate it... Congrats on your NSV !! Denise - I am happy for you and your BF - that you have met someone that you really relate to and like - That's great - I knew that you really wanted to have someone in your life. Welcome Orea - The band is a great tool and yes once you have proper restriction it really does help ... Gd - my bmi was 42 something - 5'4 250 lbs - per the charts I am suppose to weight 145 - I original set my goal at 170 (I got there once on WW and starting weight then was 206 and I had the help of drugs) I figured 170 was a good weight for my age - well got to 190 moved it to 160 - still didn't believe that I would get there - got there on 5/8 and since have lost another 10 - I am striving for the 145 - and I know that I can get there - but truly for my age - I feel fine at 150 'I'm in a 6 - heck my trainer said tonite - oh you are a 4 now aren't you.. - Well ya I would be but the saggy skin issues - Next on the agenda - plastic surgery... I have muscle for the 1st time in my life - you can see it in my legs and arms. Take it slow - make your first goal to get to onelander and the reevaluate it then - you most likely be like me and see that for once in your life - you really can attain your goal.. -
I have lost 100 lbs with the band in 11 months 1 week - it's work yes - you have to change your eating and physical activity level - but you have to do that with the bypass too - the diff is that with bypass you don't absorb your calories (the whole malnutrition aspect) where with the band we do absorb our calories - Yes there are complication with both - but imho the bands complications are are lot less than bypass. It's up to you - it's your body your decision... Good Luck...

Hi Shortgal - I have been thinking about you !! Hadn't seen you around the boards in a while - was going to p.m. you but you know how that goes - you get a though then lose it Sorry that they have to go back in and lock the band - but look how good you have done so far 43 lbs  just imagine what it's going to be like once you have restriction :cool2: Let us know when you go back in so we can say our prayers for a safe surgery and speedy recoverage - ya it shouldn't be as bad - I think for most of us our port site is what hurt the longest.. -
Good Morning All !!! Well back at work !!! I had a restful weekend - conserving my energy (and $$$ - well I did buy a camera this weekend from QVC) for our M of A trip in 2 weeks - can you beleive it's here all ready. Candice - Ok on the stress eating even skinny pple aren't perfect 24/7 heck watch any t.v. show skinny chicks get into the ice cream & chocolate when they are stressed - it's getting back on track that counts - remember it's not those couple of piece of candy or cake that makes you fat it's when you eat the whole darn thing every day all day.. So yep back to work back to healthy eating... Glad to hear that you Mom is in good spirts... Phyl - I go on 7/30 for dr appointment - keep going back and forth if I should call before hand - He only does fills on Wed - I doubt I can get in this Wed - if I could get in on the 16th that would be find (give me enought time to see if it's too thigh before our trip) - I have mamo on the 15th - hate that much time away from the office - well we will see. Karri - a whole marathon - you go girl and I agree you most likely don't need a fill since you have such a hard time already getting all your calories. Proud of you for all the mental changes you have made in the last year... food yesterday - special K waffles w/sf syrup (200)- 3/4 pinto Beans (175) - 1 1/2 cup watermelon (200)- light chips (100) - 3 oz chicken (200)- 1/4 c potato salad (150) - banana pudding (100)- seems like i ate more - but I guess not. I just seemed hungry yesterday (afternoon)- but thats 1125 calories - got all my Water in too. Well off to ck my desk - CBL :tt1:

My doc used glue when I had my lb surgery & steri strips on my port site (along with glue) Ya I bet you will have to wait til drains are out... You are a real trooper - how was your walk... I bet it was good to get outside. I haven't been out since Friday - well have been in the pool but I haven't gotten dressed (hair makeup) for 2 days That's true relaxing for me. I had 11 days straight of that (make up hair dressing) and needed the break. I tryed the special K waffles 160 calories for 2 with the sf syrup - good and filling while I was eating them but it didn't last long - had some pinto Beans 2 hrs later and feeling full - really do think I need a tweak. When &/or are go going to get another fill - after you have healed? or do you think you even need one?? You have been doing so well without being filled - I don't think I would have done so well.. I say my band does 25% of the work - but without that 25% I wouldn't be so successfull.. I do need it..

IndioGirl55 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Elaine - Yes this is hard - I know it is - I have been where you are at but You gotta follow your doctors orders - No food you are healing and you can hurt your band (slip) by eating.. You are just a week out and most docs still have us on full liquids - but sounds like you can have mushies already (cottage cheese - mashed potatoes) ?? Phyl made a great suggestion - ff refried beans with salsa and little cheese if you are allowed mushies - go look at the food thread to get ideas of diff foods you can eat. Make homemade sioups - I make a pot of pinto beans - then let them cool and then run it thru the blender - cream of pinto bean soup - you can do this with any soup you make - I find that homemade stuff was more satisfing that the canned stuff. You gotta realize that the band is only a tool and not the magic cure all to our issues with food - you have to make a lifetime lifestyle change in your eating - and physical activity - Your band won't be making your food choices only you can do that You can do this - you really can - It's hard at time - but even with property restriction it's still work and changing of habits -
Karri Itching - is healing of the incisions - just pat them.. Good for you to get out and get some fresh air - funny how we don't know how much we use our tummy muscles to got #2 - how long till you get to shower?? I remember when I had my gall bladder out back iin 85 (they still cut you back then) I was so glad when the took the staples out and I could take a real shower not a bird bath and wash my hair - and I remember how exhasted I was after that shower... I will eat Cereal at night too if I want sweets - I can't find the waffles at Stater bro - I do have special k but haven't tried them yet and I got some sf sruype too - I forget I have them - I havent eaten yet today so may just try them I am getting hungry.

Alice - I love that you are taking lemons and making lemonaide (sf of course ) With this mindset you will do good.. Are you close to Tampa - I met a girl in Vegas who is from Tampa area and she is banded - I don't know south florida from north florida :0) - Ck out and see if there is a florida thread heres the link Florida Local Lap-Band Support - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum- you maybe able to hook up with some florida pple. Becky Heres link http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f5/ticker-tutorial-pictures-41782/ go to edit signature on the right side and in the box... Mushies - refried Beans - tuna - and yes the food thread will have foods for you.. You are doing great on your exercise...
-
Kari - To funny yep boredom = eating but since I plan plan plan - I have been ok - I made mini banana puddings - I have these little 1/2 c containers - 1 reduced fat nilla wafter - banana - another cookie more banana - sf banana cream pudding - with lite cool whip poured over/and 1 more cookie - 3 Cookies x 16 48c - banana 50 - sf pudding/cool whip 40 = about 140 calories max - it was very good and I only had one - I find if I cook - it helps - I just make healthy foods. Yesterday I went to the gym 3.5 miles, cames home swam/sunned - napped- watched tv - read and Calories for the day 1000... So I am ok... Loved the God smack - and NSV. Karri - good to hear that you are doing so well and getting your protein - let us know how the doc appt goes tomorrow.. Phyl = great exercise and I got the other kasha stuff too - I am not into twigs either Isn't it funny think we need a tweak in our fills and then we get stuck.. Why did you cut all that beautiful hair off... but he is still a cutie. Steph - Yes fight for that 8 you will get it... Ssankofa - Great exercise Well gang I have been up since 5:30 - I have read my book, paper, 2 cups coffee - washed, vaccummed the house, cleand bathrooms, clean kitchen - cleaned bedrooms - all before 10 a.m. Now gotta Iron - and maybe get dressed - but who knows - oh 2 bottles of water so far 33.80 so half way there and it's only 10:30.. Ok off to iron - ck back later...

Long that pound is just water don't worry. Ok pple noticing - you are not weird - some dont' know what to say as they don't want to offend - and I forget what you tickers says was your starting weight - but remember 37 lbs gone - and sometime it does show but to some pple fat is fat and they don't complement on almost 40 lbs cuz we are still chunky and they don't really see it - and some pple love us just for who we are/were and they don't see the weight at all - they see you... I had a few pple tell me I wasn't fat and didn't need the surgery - 250 @ 5'4 isn't fat ya right - but they saw me for who I am and didn't see the fat when they looked at me. But I know what you mean - I saw a guy I know yesterday at the store and he hasn't seen me since Feb and I have lost a good 25 lbs since then and he didn't say anything... Some will some won't but just go look in the mirror and admire those 37 lbs that are gone - the completments will come so don't let the lack of them hold you back.. -

I love the Rina & Peter Decker series - I think I was a Jewish person in my other life - Maybe my Catholic upbringing and all the rituals - Plus my bff who I met at the age of 2 in nursery school was Jewish and I spent alot of time with her family - but she came to church with me more that she went to temple .. I think I have read the Parker guy Stone somebody yep I liked him - I will find an author I really like and the go read all his older books before I discovered him or her.. Long this is a very personal opinion and I have no statics that it's true but seems to me the ones who quit posting usually don't follow thru with their new lifestyle change. They have fallen off the wagon per se and aren't doing as good as the rest of the gang and give up - are in denial or don't want to hear what we have to say - I could be full of crapolla but when someone from my monthly group has dropped out and then come back - they say they haven't been doing real well - they lose like 40 or so lbs and then slack off - again this is totally a personal opinion and 40 lbs is good - it's just that I didn't do this to not get all my weight off. The statistic's are that you will only lose like 50% to 60% of your excess body weight by yr 2 - IMHO we should strive for at least 80 if not 100% of our excess weight - but that's just my personal opinion - I know that when I got to 200 (50% of my excess weight loss) I felt alot better and though I looked really good too - but I just kept plugging along and got the rest of it off. For me it really hasn't been that hard - I am almost 1 yr out - in-fact went for my pre-op on 7/6. Or it could be that pple have lives and are doing other things rather than posting 24/7.. I post cuz I have no life I post cuz I have made friends here :cool2: I post cuz it help me be accountable :tt2: I post cuz I want everyone to feel as great as I do and if I can do it anyone can :biggrin2: So much of our lives have been wasted being fat - our fatness limited us in what we could do - at our age we need to have a good quality of life - we don't need the limitations that being obese cause - we want to add a few more years on this earth - We want to enjoy our "golden yrs".. Again this is all my personal opinion - and I am a person with strong personal opinion that not everyone agrees with  -
Good Morning Again Gang Well, back from the gym 3.5 mile 400 calories later - now I gotta figure out what to do today - I could wash & clean house, I could go shopping, i could play on the computer and do a new before & after pic - got a good pic of me in my dress from Vegas - could watch tv - but none of that is super appealing - I hate it when I don't know what to do with myself... it's 89 degress 53% humdity - it's suppose to get to 110 so it's awful hot today with the humidity.. I really don't feel like shopping - can you beleive that - ms shopacholic Well, I really need to figure out what I am going to do with my day - think I will call my gf and see whats up with her CBL
