    Hey Carol - Welcome - Warning Tough Band Love Advice (operative word being love) 1st they banded your tummy not your head - your band doesn't make your food choices nor does it exercise for you - it is only a tool to help you with your portion control. But as with anything else you can abuse this tool by eating slider foods (foods that slide right through the band) eating high fat & sugar items too. This is not a diet- diets don't work to coin a phrase - it's really not about being skinny either - It's about being healthy (the skinny part is just icing on the cake) - to be healthy you need to eat good healthy foods - follow the band rules - Hard protein first - then veggies - then starchs/carbs if any room - no drinking with meal - or after for at least 1/2 hr or what ever your doc says. 3 meals - 2 healthy snack (low fat - sugar free) - physical activities (walking - swimming - weight - dance whatever floats your boat and gets you moving) I had major frickin surgery - I was 52 when banded - I have fewer yrs ahead of me than what's behind me and I want to extend the years I have left and I wanted to improve the quality of my life. So my head is totally in the game. IMHO 75% of the work is up to you and the band will do the other 25%.. I was told over and over again here on LBT by my 50+ ladies that the band was only a tool - So I knew going in that this had to be a LIFETIME LIFESTYLE change in my life. Also, I have the experience of all my other dieting efforts - and I am able to use the information I learned in Weight Watcher in helping me eat healthy (not diet) and exercise. I eat healthy 98% of the time - I allow for treats 2% of the time - but those calorie are not in addition to my daily budget of 900-1200 but included in. I exercise 3-4 days a week (2 cardio - 2 weights) - I also keep a food diary (on my 6th book) where I track my calories & pt grms. Attached is a sample menu of mine - it may help I bought a scale that gives me all the info on whatever I am weighing - I used it alot in the being but now I know what a portion size looks and know most of the calories by heart of the foods i eat (I still pull it out when I am eating something different) I eat off of a sandwich plate - use children's utensils - and have a little bowl that holds one cup. I still eat out - Mexican or Chinese - but I eat 1/4 what I ate before - I eat minimum 1 cup per meal - usually 1 to 1/2 - but some nights it can be 2 cups.. I eat low fat - mostly sugar free - and I do eat carbs/starches I always have some form of starch with my dinner - usually 1/2 cup of rice. I am more than willing to share - as I know how it feels to be the Fat Chick - and in my head I still have her - but before long she will be replaced by the new thinner & healthier chick and I want everyone here to share the joy in meeting and exceeding your goals and to feel so much better. Ok you got the Janet's intro into banding 101 - Again I don't mean to offend or hurt feelings - but I truly do believe that as obese pple we make so many excuses - NO MORE EXCUSES - if you think you can't then you won't - If you think you can you will. Just get your mind in the game - we are here for your support and most of the time when we think we are hungry we really aren't we want to soothe our nerves or whatever - I still fight this 1 yr out - I will be full from dinner but still want to eat mentally.. This is work - life is work - but you are so fricking worth the work. We are all here for you.. Off my soap box (for now anyway:lol:)

    Penny Tell the lady at the gym to go jump in a lake - I have a trainer and didn't get him until I had lost most of my weight (still had 25 to go) mostly cuz I was embarassed to go to him at 250 - He told me that's what he is there for and yes muscle does burn more calories that doing just arobics but that being said you have to do both to be fit. When I got the trainer he wanted to put me on his diet (fyi he does have some medical back ground) told him I didn't need it as I was under a doctors care for that .. And Yes it is a proven fact that 99.9% of the diets out there are full of b.s. - diets period are full of b.s. - cuz when you go off them you gain the weight back - it's all about eating healthy and physical activity levels - Do what's best for you - do what makes you comfortable - tell that lady at the gym you are under a doctors care and you are doing what he advises - end of story. This is from the self proclaimed Labpand Guru...:thumbup: If you work your band the band will work.. :lol: fyi - I also am the self proclaimed employee of the month too. Yes I am very full of myself :crying:

    Of couse... Attached is a sample menu - I would suggest tracking your calories (dailyplate.com or fitday.com) I feel that doing so is a great learning tool and do you own a scale and measuring cups - are you eating off dessert/sandwich plates. Protein 1st - veggies - starches if room - 60 grms prt a day - 64 oz of Water - no drinking with meals and for 1/2 hr after. Low fat - sugar free - limit refined carbs - I am not an atkins girl - I follow WW eating plan (old school exchanges not points :tongue_smilie: Tiny bite, chew, what out for slider foods.

    Who's that skinny chick :tongue_smilie:- OMG Karri - Looking GREAT :tt1: just a little over 1 week out - :eek: Why are they taking you off the cymbalta?? Did I miss something... Don't worry about the 2 lbs - they will be off before you know it and you said you were swollen... I know I know - you are freaking about those 2 lbs I understand... But I just gotta put my mommy 2 cents in - - but 1500 I thought 1800 Well I am off to bed - I am off Friday :wink2: so it's a busy week... Sweet dreams everyone- Talk to you all tomorrow...:wub:

    Teresa - Hugs & Prayer !!!! We are here for you !!!! Productive burp - burp with food - sorta like throwing up without the stomach acid Nancy - Congrats on your fill a day or two of liquids isnt bad after a fill heck my doc wants me to go back to whole post op diet 1 week each stage - too much I do Soups 1 or 2 days then soft and so on.. Are you tracking your calories??? How's your exercises?? Nope not ignorant - just a newbie :confused_smile: I thiink it was my 1st question here on the 50 board when I joined .. see reply above to pj - you bp when you have eaten too fast - too big of a bite - haven't chewed - the food gets stuck and come back up... Slime is what your body produces to try and get the food down (really saliva) and it will bubble back up - right now I just ate a piece of watermelon too fast - I was sitting here typing and I slimed - had to go sip it out .. Ate too fast but didn't bp :smile2: Ok I missed the guru statement -I will have to go back an read (I was busy this weekend hanging picutres - curtains - deep cleaning)

    Glad you had a good time Candice - it looks like it was slow here today... Yep I was just thinking about our trip - a week from Friday - What time do you think you and Linda will get to hotel?? We are going to have to email each other our cell #'s - so we call all hook up - I don't know if our hotel has a restaurant - well just check and the have an onsite Chevy's and TGI Must be close cuz they offer room service... I am ready - can't wait - well I am hungry - gotta go see what's for dinner cbl :confused_smile:

    Thanks JoannMarie - Yep I feel so good that I want everyone to feel as good as I do !!! Yes I give tough LOVE :confused_smile: but it's not like you are taking advice or support from some skiny chick who just doesn't understand what a fat chick - thinks or feels ... I am still a fat chick in my head and most likely always will be - but I know have the tool to have control over food (well 98% of the time:redface:) I had ton's of test - sleep, shrink, lungs, heart, colon, pap, mamo, but got them all done between 6/4 & 7/13 and had surgery 7/17.. Yep I joined LBT 5/14 and by the time I had my 1st visit with the doctor on 5/31 he was impressed by how much I knew - all thanks to the info here... Weclome and gald to have you... Keep in touch...     Long Sometimes I have a life and other times I don't I must be in a nesting mode.. Or a Manic mode :eek: - I am a do it all the way or not at all kind of person.. So I was very driven - plus I have pple coming over on Thur Yep losing weight will cause a gall bladder attach - I had my our 10 days before I turned 30 - they still cut you open back then but I hadn't lost any weight - it just happened - hope you don't have to have surgery - will keep good thoughts and prayers about that.. Well back to work - just cking in - be back later :cursing:

    You will do it - you got your mind back in the game - I am happy for you and am glad you have joined us :eek: Becky Bandster Hell - the time between healing and 1st fill - I don't think pasta is considered mushie ck w/your doc - if you are going to eat bread make sure you buy the lite bread 45 caliores a slice. Again I would consider bread soft not mushie -- Just watch your calories - I am a WW girl so I do have some carbs but not alot.. When you are hungry just find low calorie stuff to eat - that's what I do or drink Water - keeping busy really helps me too. Kathy of course - we are the same age I was 52 when banded 250 5'4 now 150 53yr and still 5'4 - preop is hard but you can do it - I called my doc and asked if I could have salmon & salad for dinner (hated the tomato Soup they gave me) and they said yes - I was going to do it anyway - but did want their approval - I was lucky only 1 week pre-op. But I did follow the rules after being banded ... Long ho did the fill go... was it blind fluro did they give you a numbing shot do you have to go back to liquids for a few day??? Hey Gang - I am alive and well - Friday was hectic at work and Friday nite I was beat - didn't get on the computer at all (I work on a computer all day at work and here and sometimes my brain needs a rest) Sat did 4 miles at the gym (oh ya great nsv out of 365 days I have been to the gym 178) came home started to try and hang curtians that I bought 7 months ago - decided I needed a drill took off shopping came home started another project hanging pictures - then Sunday deep cleaned - cleaning my bathroom (you know that invisable hairspray everywhere) washed window, screens, patio, clean window sills, blinds moved furniture vaccumed, removed cousions covers off couch and straighted - plume feathers in cushions - hung the drape, polished all my wood furniture - vaccumed - mopped - and didn't sit down til 8:30 to eat. All that without the help of drugs Sorry about being mia - but i get on the computer and nothing gets done

    Good Morning Gang ..... I am good - I worked my a$$ off yesterday - got up @ 7 - coffee & paper then started deep cleaning (well since Jackie's not around maybe I will take her place on the cleaning) washed Screens - Windows - window sills - move furniture vaccume behind & under - removed couch covers and replaced - hung my curtains - polished all the furniture - bathroom - I didn't sit down to 8:30 to eat... So I think i got a good workout - my legs were killing my last night... Candice the camp looks wonderful - did you bring some good books.. Kari - I hear ya on the sag and bag issues - but you know what - we always will have one part of our body that we don't like - I would rather have the sag and bag instead of the fat - I buy sundresses - but I have 2 bolareo jacket to top them off with.... You just gotta work around the issues.. Karri - Try Steph's remedy... Hope you are better to day - and you tummy looks EXCELLENT. Ruby - I may be a gym rat - but I don't have to not make myself go on my days off - I don't love it that much Started this an hour 2 hrs ago... to many interruptions.... Will CBL :cursing:

    Lynn you have restriction and very good restriction - you gotta really sip the water - I miss guzzling - but since I could use a tweak I can do a mini guzzle - but not like before. That's why we are suppose to sip all day cuz we can't get enough when we get thirsty . PJ My doc suppled the pre-op diet food - ck w/your doc - he may be supplying it. - I too had clear liquids only the day before surgery per my doc orders.. Great date Judy - I was banded 7/17 but in 2007 - You are in the 2007 thread not the 2008 - Good Luck !!! Long - how much longer til you get your fill??? I am a year out and I still crave unhealthy foods - a girl in my Lucky #7 group has lost the taste for alot of her old trigger foods - no me ... Trigger for me is being tired... I know this - so I just don't have stuff around and I don't buy it when I am out either... I look at the calories for a white choc reese peanut butter cup - 2 little candies 200 calories. So I eat either my Fudgecicle or puddings (sf of courses) The 1400 wont hurt if you go back to lower the next day in fact it can sometime help boost the weight lose.. I allow 2% treats - and yes I would love some fried chicken - sounds good - but tonites menue - tuna sandwich with lite mayo on 45 c a slice bread... Oh gotta share this great dinner I had last night - Lean Cusinie Alfreado 270 calories - Added Scallops (4 100 calories) that I sauteed in a little evoo & butter & garlic - cooked the frozen dinner in micro wave and then added the scallops without the oil & butter - OMG THOUGHT I HAD DIED AND WENT TO HEAVEN... Be careful - watch out for your food triggers and be mindful when they hit..

    Congrats, GYM RAT!! YEP THAT MUCH TIME IN THE GYM MAKES ME AN OFFICAL GYM RAT :mad:- WHO WOULD HAVE EVER THUNK :w00t:THAT ME JANET WOULD BE A GYM RAT.. !! I think I saw some different chewable multivitamins at Costco yesterday that were kind of like the calcium chews. Someone suggested Gummi Bears chewables. I thought they had some or seniors, but I've only found kids'. That'd be okay, I suppose. TOO BAD THEY DON'T HAVE TASTE TEST FOR VITAMINS Spotting problems resolve?? NOPE LAST TIME IT LASTED ABOUT 2 WEEKS. BUT MY MOOD HAS IMPROVED.:biggrin:

    Afternoon check in - I am making holes in my walls :eek:- I got curtians 9 months ago if not longer - asked son to hang my rods - he never got around to it - so this morning I said - Janet you can do it - well - I only have a hammer & screw driver - am not strong enough to get screw in the stud - plus I hung the rod about 4 inches lower than it should be. So had to go by a drill - am going to have to patch the holes I made :biggrin:- then I hung a sun above my cook top - that was 2 holes - then hung another picture - 6 holes counting the holes that the nails are in Gotta wait til the drill charges to go make more holes in the bedroom But come hell or high Water I am getting it done !!!! Thats why they make spackel....:wink: Thanks Steph & Kathy :mad: when I asked this morning if their computer kept track of how many time I have been - I was shocked.. Like I said for me it has been a giant change in my behavior more than the eating - and I contribute the exercise as a big factor in my weight loss - Steph That's great DH is thinking about the band - Keeping fingers crossed and good thoughts.. Kathy - will ck the website after I get off lbt - Congrats on the 3 lbs you are back on track... Did you know Steph has a website too.. Ok ya I finally remembered the name of karri's Protein Bar while I was out this afternoon pure Protein - I got the peanut choc one and ate it while at target 190 calories 20 grms pt and filling... So I bought a box of them and the choc only ... will be good for Breakfast Well it's 6 - I am hungry... I am having a tuna sandwich for dinner I think - it sounds good .... Well gotta feed the doggies - cbl....

    Good Morning Gang - What's up this fine Saturday morning !!! Exercise - Brag !!! I did 4 miles this morning - I did 3 songs on incline of 10 at 2.6 to 3.0 speed and no holding on - I rarely ever hold on anymore even at 4.0 on a 1 or 2 incline - I burned 425 calories. I am so much stronger that I was just since March - When I first got my trainer he put me on the treadmill at speed 2.5 and incline of 4 - i could barely do it (i rarely did inclines prior to march and if I did 3 was max and held on and prior to march I held on all the time)- now I do incline of 4 at 3.5 no problem Also out of 365 days I have been to the Gym 178 days - out of 52 weeks I have been to the gym 25 week - I guess that would qualify me as a gym rat???? If you take out the 6 weeks after surgery (i didn't exercise during those 6 weeks) - that 46 weeks and I have been to the gym more 25.43 weeks.. You guys just don't know how proud I am of myself for this - for me it's like Karri running a marathon - thats how big it is for me.. :biggrin2: Karri - Thanks for that info - I did find that my doc really just took his bypass instructions and relabeled them Lapband... I found swallow vitamins at bariatric advantage but you are suppose to take 6 in a day - I am not good at taking pills (not that its hard I just hate taking pills - never have to worry about me being a prescription pill addict) I need to find a swallow small vitamin - I find that I am bruising and I don't really care for the chewables any ideas gang... I am glad you are eating Karri and ya sitting around is boring - can't believe that's all we use to do How's the a/c working?? I work up this morning at 6 and it had rained.. it's 85 - 63% humidity ... only suppose to get to 100 today.. Ruby - If I were home all day - I would have the same problem reaching for a snack here or there - I find if I am busy or out and about I don't think about food - but being bored is when I start looking for the food to.. OK - need to get showered and dressed and run my weekly errands... CBL:shades_smile:

    Hey gang what's up... I am beat wasn't going to get on the computer at all tonight - I am just too tired to think - but on QVC (listening Steph & Denise) phyilosoplhy is the TSV and they had a body spray (it's not todays spec value but I love the scent) - pure grace (ivory soap smell) that I had to order before it sold out and gs was on the phone - so as usual email pops up first had to ck that out - GREAT NSV for Candice on her Bandanniversay !!! Then had to come here and say Hi and see what went on today (was super busy at work :smile2:) Oh ya I HAD A FANTASTIC DINNER.... I am fricking super stuffed really didn't need the last 3 bite but it tasted so damn good (yes steph I wish I could be more like my daughter too) Well here it is - I know you all want to know what was fantastic Lean Cuisine Fettuccine Alfredo - ok ya not exciting - well I added 4 cut up scallops to it that I had sautéed in a little evoo & butter & garlic - OMG IT WAS SO FANTASTIC.... The lean cuisine is 270 cal - scallops 100 -= 370 calories (well really most likely 400 with the little bit of oil that stuck to the scallops as I spooned them our - but I am not technical - I count it as 370) and like I said I should have quit before I did but I just couldn't - it was so fantastic - total comfort food - I thought I went to heaven and died - an Italian restaurant couldn't have been better. As you can see I still love food.... :thumbup: Soy nut for bf 130 - Salad for Lunch 250 - snack popcorn 200 (large bag) dinner 370 - 950 today and I am stuffed - and No I did terrible on my water - maybe one bottle - and will have some before bed. Ok for those who have the tmi #2 problems - I have some chewable caltrate 600 D plus calcium supplements (I know they aren't citrate but I figure I am getting some calcium from these - I do have the citrates but forget to take them in the mornings ) anyway - I have been taking them before (2) bed every night (they taste good I wish the chewable vit tasted as good)- well in the morning I have not been having any problems - were as before I was only going every 2 or 3 days...:cool: Ok this is why I didn't get on the computer when I got home - i get on here and end up 2 hrs are gone - My eyes are tired - so I am headed back to the couch and to bed in a few - so will talk to you all tomorrow..     I was banded for me - I wanted to extend the years I have left on this world - I wanted to improve the quality of my life But like the rest of the Grandma's here - My grandkids were part of the motivation too - I want to see my grandkids get married (I have 3 - ages 17 - 13 - 4) and maybe even see a great grandchild or two. I gotta say that my 17 yrs now ask me why I am running - when in fact I am just walking - he use to have to stop and wait for me to catch up when we went to the mail :thumbup:

    Good Morning Gang.... Marcy - Happy Bandanniversary !!! 1 yr 50lbs way to go - You look great - keep up the good work and we do miss you !!!! Karri - Well, I am not as lucky as you I still like fat - sugar etc - can't say that my taste buds have changed - haven't had a brownie in a year - but I really think I would still love them so - I just don't start- poor GS he likes them - well I guess I could make him some (I have a box of fat free in the cupboard) and have just 1 and make him keep the rest in his room :confused: I just hate it when I can't sleep - but at least you will be able to nap during the day - go put your chair infront of the a/c - have a high calorie protein shake and take a nap while listening to your new book on your ipod.. Kari - Congrats on your NSV - that's great ! You are doing wonderful - sure going to miss you at our M of A trip - well maybe next year you will be able to swing Vegas - Ok boss just walked in - gotta split - will be back later:tt2:

    Karri I think you are my daughter - that's something my son would do - oh ya me to0 back when I was 29 - I rememer one time when i was a teenager with my son being like 8 months old and $$$ was super tight the cashier gave me too much change back and I didn't realize it till I got to the car in fact it was soo much that they paid me to shop in thier store and my stuff was actually free plus some.. Well I am glad you are cool now - hows the food going?? I ended up eating my left overs - 1 enchillda - and a little Beans. Off to bed gang I am beat - Sweet dreams....

I guess my age is showing cuz I did it for health reason and didn't really think about it being akind to a face lift - but ya - I guess it could be used that way - I have a freind who did just that she had like only 30 lbs to lose went to Mexico and got banded - but is struggling cuz she drinks again someone who thinks it's the easy way to lose the weight I have morbitly obese mentally - it was about my health not the scrs or not my looks I just wanted to live a little longer.

    Ok -it's time to put on your big girl panties - don't be crying - just pull up the boot straps and move forward ... It sounds like you didn't eat the whole darn thing so you should be ok (but again I am not a doctor) but from what I have read those who did eat and went to their doc's their bands had not slipped - so relax - I think that you are just a little stressed right now - it's hard to give up food and take critiziam at the same time ... Just chill - follow the rules Hugs - get some sleep you will feel better in the morning...

    Joiful Don't get too pissed some time we just read the 1st post and reply and don't read futher and it's hard to beleive that you didn't get any kind of post op instructions - a lot of pple here go to Mexico and get banded and they are told to follow the same rules that most of us have to follow. and yes us long time banders really can't understand why newbies do what they do... I know that I feel if I could go 10 days on soups so can everyone else - it's a matter of your band healing We get pissed that so many pple don't follow their doc orders - we want you to be successful - we really do - it's just hard sometime to understand why some do what they do right after sugery... You aren't alone - but like our mom's always said - just cuz your freind jumps off the brigde are your going to follow - You now know what you should be doing - and are doing it - Proud of you for that - Don't be afraid to share - but do know that from some of us you are going to get tough band love.. Alot of us are very strict when it comes to the rules
