    I'm here to help...

Good Morning Ladies - I am at work this am when I am suppose to be on vacation.. Since i was gone all day Thursdays - I gotta get my desk cleaned up... Andrew is getting better he is hating the brace can't sit comfortably and is concerned about how he is going to do this with school starting next week - he is cranky.... Becky Belated Happy Birthday - Your dinner sounds good how big was the hamburger & salad but it really sounds ok to me hard Protein should fill you up and there is nothing wrong with a small piece of cake - it's not that 1 piece that will make you fat it's 2 -3 pieces or when you eat the whole darn cake Congrats on the exercise - good going :tt2: Well my Bramhin purse is about 12x10 but by the time I put in my bramhin wallet - nothing else fit - my Coach isn't too big but it does fit my wallet glasses etc  Thanks !!! see above for my cranky boy... Charlene - it's good nothing get stuck :0) I wrote back in my beginning about how I was afraid that we could get to depended on fills and that they can be more of a physological help more than anything. I am not suggesting that any of you are becoming overly depended on your band or the restriction - but we all seem to want that fill and to be tight.. Heck I thought I needed another fill or tweak as I call it cuz I was hungry all the time - but you know what - it was just hunger - I don't need a fill and I realy don't think my doc would give me one - this is why they have the rules if you are losing then no fill - if you aren't they are going to examine what you are eating and how much and most likely give you one. Turly for me I was lucky and 2 fill really got me to sweet spot - and when I went in January thought i needed another one (cuz all you do is read about pple getting a million fills - so you think you have to too) when I really didn't - he added 1 cc then took our .08 cc so I ended up with a .02 cc fill - which is more a brain game to me. That being said some docs are very aggressive with their fills and others not so.. This is why I don't think it really matters how many cc's they put in what matters if you have restriction. If you can't drink water you are too tight and that's good she took it back out and you can make it till 9/18 - that's a good amount of time to be able to test your restriction and yes we all do test it - we all want to experience that first slime or bp episode that we all read about .. Ok this was quick - I gotta get to work so I can leave at noon - I will ck back later...

Charlene - That's the kind of talk I love to hear :banghead: Congrat on joining curves.. Lori Congrats on your Coach purse - I got my 1st when at Mall of America - I did have on Brama (or something like that) that cost $$$ and then when I got it home and tried to use it found it too small - so this time I made sure that it would be big enough and that I would use it all the time if I was spending that kind of $$$ My 2nd fill took about week or so to settle in... So yes it can take a while. I went to Costco Friday night for the steak -baked bagel chips & spinch dip to die for - but the spinach dip had 100 cal for 2 tblsp - too much for but yes - we can now have a meal at costco... Charlene - I take sf angle food cake and spoon dannon lite & fit yogurt (blackberry) over it and add some strawberries - yummy.. Ok I am confused you had a fill on Thursday but had 1/2 taken out.. Even with proper restriction I have been hungry all day - but know it has something to do with going out last night and having a few drinks :hurray: Thank God for my band cuz days like this I could eat - gs just got pizza I had about 3 bites - I think I will have something else for dinner.. Becky You are eating soft foods for the most part -you really aren't goint to notice any diff in your restriction - What I was saying is that you need to try meat to see how your restriction is - egg salad is a slider food and for the most part so would be the eggplant - I too eat till I fill comfy and stop... -------------------- Ok gang just cking in - I was watched tv last night and gf & her dh called an wanted me to come tothe Rock Garden outside music at one of our local casino's last night was "Doors" the band was good better than Janis Joplin who I saw a few weeks back - So had a coupld tequlia tonics - and did nap a bit today... So that's why I am just now checking in... We Back to the couch - work tomorrow... CBL:tongue:

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Sandi surgery time is diff for everyone - I had a bit of scar tissue from a previous gall bladder surgery - pre-op was 14 vials of blood and that was it.. I had to spend the night in the hospital which I am glad I had to cuz they have great pain meds - and yes it does hurt - I won't tell you that it doesn't - I woke up and said "what the hell have I done" but the next pain shot took that thought out of my head... Each day after surgery got better and better - back to work day 6 - so felt I did really well. Pat Congratulations on your weight & inches loss... You are doing great !
  8. IndioGirl55

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Sandi - you will be in my prayers for a safe surgery & speedy recovery.. What are your doc's instructions for eating after surgery?? They all are so diff.. So my suggestion is if you are to be on clear liquids or full make your own Soups this weekend - Homemade chick broth is so much better than the canned stuff and so is creamed soups... That's what I did. Make sure you have your protien powder or clear Protein drinks on hand

Becky I can tell you that your old brain is going to want to order tons of food when you are straving - but once you do have proper restriction you won't be able to eat it all.. I have order a big plate when starving and then come home with food for 2 or 3 more meals.. You should try some hard protein and see how it goes - if you have a costco go ans splurge on some filet migon (it's the only steak I can eat without any problems) I can tell you I can only eat about 4 oz and still have to go slow. Thats what I had for dinner last night and 1/2 c whole wheat spagh Pasta. No veggie - I was a bad girl on that but will make sure to have some today.. Thanks for the concern about GS - He's doing good - he's wearing his brace and not complaining so that's the good part - but trying to keep him down is going to be a bit of an issue Hope the cold is better - I have been very forutnate that I havent gotten sick in the last yr - oh I will take that back I did have a bit of a cold or sinus a while back - but nothing major as it never stopped me from going to the gym. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Good Morning Ladies - hope you all had a good evening... I watched the Olympics and went to bed around 10:30 - up at 6 this morning - I am tired I thought it was a work day and I had over slept:lol: - Having my coffee trying to talk myself out of going to the gym. But know I can't but that still doesn't stop me from having the conversation I know that I will feel better after I have gone and walked my 2 or 3 miles - that's what I do if I make my self go when I don't want to - if I'm not really feeling it I may just do 2 miles instead of my usual 3 - But usually I figure what's 16 17 more minutes you can do it.. So we will see what I do when I do go..

    I'm here to help...

JoannMarie - your shrimp dish sounds great - I know that when pple ask for a receipt it's hard cuz i really don't measure or time - I just cook - I come from a family who all love to cook - my gm -mom dad sis bros we all love to eat good food - I got fat on good food not fast food - So I think that has helped me in making this a lifetime change - I still eat mostly the same stuff just smaller quainity - a LOT less fat and sugar and have added the exercise.. Ellen - my highest weight was 250 that was on 7/6 the day of my pre-op (I weighed like 244 on my 1st visit on 5/31 - in just a little over 30 days gained 6 lbs from last meal mentality:lol:) I only had 1 week of pre-op diet and it included real food for dinner (fish/salad) and 2 days was Clear liquids cuz I had colon test on 7/13 and surgery on 7/17 - I don't think I weighed myself the day of surgery - I weighed myself the morning I got home from the hospital Thursday and that became my weigh in day... Yes venture out and try food - just go slow - it will be ok... Yep Lori you will know if you are too tight and if you ever get too tight you will never want to experience that again - on my fill in january i was fine when I left the office - but the next day - i really had to take tiny tiny sips of water.. I was that way for 1 week - NEVER AGAIN.... Charlene - getting the weight off is getting your life back - It is so worth the work to feel good again.. I see that word hope in your last sentence- REMEMBER I WILL add curves or water aerobics next month !!!! Thanks To all of you for your prayer and good thought.. GS is doing fine in fact he is at the show right now - he is male but he isn't a big baby when it comes to being sick - He is taking his pain meds and wearing his brace and follow dr's orders... We are getting referral to specialist (he's on his Mom's insurance hmo - my stupid company wouldn't let me cover him even thought he lives with me - I claim him on my taxes cuz I don't have legal guardianship - I have a ppo so it would have been better insurance but heck he has insurance so I am not complaining) I am fine - I usually deal well under pressure - I guess it's from being a single mom and now a single gm being a mom to my gs.. But I do have to say that back in May (before this thread started) my ds & dil had some MAJOR issue (dil walked in on a burgalar and was stabbed - she is ok) and my xdh came to the hospital - when I saw him is when I started crying - it was that with him I had someone to lean on and with my family I have to be the strong one they depend on me.. It's just the way I am made I guess... That's why I am always preaching - when you fall down you just gotta grab those bootstraps and pull yourself up... I really don't have too much patients for pple who wallow in self pity - what good is that going to do - what good is blaming your whole life on problems from the past - you cant change the past but you do have control (well as much as we do ) on how you move forward.. Welcome Cinder... Glad to have you... Ask away... I am usually off the computer around 7:30 or 8 most nights (Cali time) but am on 1st thing in the morning when I get to work around 7:15 a.m Kathy - Thanks !! I have problems when I eat out too my old brain kicks in.. but I don't have to travel for work so 98% of my meals are at home and healthy - but when I go out I don't always make the best choices - that being said - since I am at my sweet spot - my saving grace is that I can't eat too much of my meal 1/2 taco few bites of Beans and some chips & salsa.. Eating out is a treat for me - so that's my 2% of eating outside the 98% of eating healthy - so you can do that - 98% of the time you promise yourself to eat healthy but allow 2% for your treats - but that 2% has to be within your calorie budget... And to get that 2% you gotta exercise.. Once you start getting fills - it will help but like you said you gotta change those habits... Just don't order the wine - if it's not there you can't drink it - if you are eating with others - and they have a bread basket - just put it on the other side of the table and if you are going to eat then you MUST EXERCISE... Don't think about it - just do it ( put on you exercise clothes and tennis an go to the gym and yes the whole time you are going to try and talk yourself out of it but by the time you are dressed you are going to go.) I know that for me I had to really just do it - I would not let myself talk myself out of it 99% of the time - I had major frickin surgery to loose this weight - so if I was going to be successfull then I had to do the work... and that's making the healthier food choices and exercising... Katariana - Thanks - but yes I am going to worry about you all - You are my family too - you are all my band sisters..... I get just as much support from you all as I give if not more... It's just sometimes life happens and I might not be on the computer as much - but like I said eariler GS is doing fine at the show so it's not like I have to play nurse maid or anything - I am very blessed that his injuries werent' worse ok just go back - dil called and this post has been sitting here for about 1/2 hrs.. it's 8:09.. Gotta feed the doggies - GS called on his way home want's tacos so gotta go cook.. I will CBL THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT IT MEAN SO MUCH TO ME - I HAVE ALL OF YOU TO LEAN ON AND THAT IS A GREAT COMFORT TO ME... Hugs & Love Janet

Hey Gang.... Thanks ladies for all the good thoughts & prayers - Andrew is doing fine he is of the male gender but I can't say he's a big baby when he is sick like most men  One time when my son was 12 or so had a tummy ache was laying in the hall acting like he was dieing - I asked him if he wanted me to take him to Fitzhenry's (our local funeral home) My DS is a baby - but Andrew is at the show right now - he went to the doc this morning to get referal (hmo) to see a specialist so once we get that we will go and see how he is healing... Car is in the shop - missed the call (stupid cell phones) and didn't get it until after 5 - so I guess I will go Monday and see it and how much it's going to cost to fix - well insurance will pay but don't know about the frame - the way the CHP talked not alot of body damage - the car won't be a yr old until 9/2 - I had just paid then new registration on 8/20.. Karri - It's ok baby girl on the sugar now that you can run it will balance out but I would hate wanting sugar that bad... That would be totally scary... My sis take boostpar (that sounding it out I don't know how to spell it) for her anxity... My gf takes xanax So you got big plans for your clearance on doing ANYTHING:tt2: tonite - I know that I said have some wine - but since your doc has told you NO .. Just let DH have some - Have fun and enjoy. Marivila I eat salad - I just hate making them and I don't like to many fat free dressings they are too sweet for me - but I did find a lite ranch that was ok... I am just lucky most of the time I cant eat almost anything if i take tiny bites chew and eat slowly - then only thing I can have problems with is steak if it's not super tender - I can't eat ribeye I have tried but it's just too stringy - I love the filet migon from costco - that's what i am having tonite... Ok costco ladies - they have a spinach dip on a baked gralic craker that's to die for - but the dip is 100 cal for 2 tblspn.. crackers 6 130 so I just got the crackers and some meat and 2 books... Steph I love your story about the sugar - I remember going on vacation as a kid and in the dinning room of the hotel my brothers and I eating the sugar packet they have on the table... Well gotta go turn the meat - it's marinating in red wine vinegar and worstershire sauce and galice... I will cbl.. Dionna - as you will see - we are a big family - it's just too bad that we all live in diff parts of the country.. Ok I can see my typing & spelling is really bad - with 12 hrs at the hospital 5 hrs sleep & 8 hrs of work - what else can you expect.... CBL

I get it mostly from eating too fast My skin is pretty good no pimples and I use to get them... just buy stuff that's non-comodgent (sp).. Ok I gotta get back to work Thanks for all your prayers - good thoughts - hugs & love - Just another one of those life hurrdles God likes to throw our way everynow and then :biggrin2:

Hi Gang... Bad news - Andrew (GS) got in an car accident yesterday morning (tire tread in the road - could not avoid it - it hit car (left front tire blew) and he lost control and went airborne off the side of the road - thankfully the car didn't roll) He has a fractured vertabrate (sp?) and burise disk (growth plates?? don;t know if they are one in the same). I was at the hospital from 8 a.m to 8:30 p.m yesterday. They did catscan - x rays - mri - great treatment - he was fitted with a brace that he has to wear and we have to see a pediatric ortho or nurosurgen... I am suppose to be on vacation next week - but since I wasn't here at work yesterday will have to come in on Monday to make up my time so I gotta get my butt in gear and see what's on my desk - I will cbl today if not tonite.. But wanted you all to know what's up and need your prayers and good thought for a speedy/safe not permanent damage to his spine) Ok - I promise to cbl - I still gotta call the insurance - I haven't seen the car - it's in Banning (30-40 miles away) but really don't give a crap about it all I care about is Andrew. Hugs.. Janet

Yes Lori you gotta read the binder  - Glad your appt went well and great news on being his Star  Yep those kind on complements from your doc and others really does help you keep your motivation. My doc calls me his Star Lapband patient too and I know how great that makes me feel - Also at the gym when the pple behind the counter say hi and call my skinny (yes they were talking to me - shock) These are the things that really boost your confidence.. 6 lbs in 6 weeks so doable... now you have a goal Great News !!! Becky Congrats on the 31 lbs loss - This band thing really does work as long as you do your job.. I was like you too in the beginning - I just couldn't beleive it - and then you are going to feel so good about yourself and say - oh my this isn't that hard - this is doable.. I will have to try those veggies - I love roasted carrots - though I have to becareful with broc - i pb'd on it once and haven't eaten it since. Also my Mom was from the south - so I like all my veggies WELL DONE. But I take after my Dad who's from NY - I love my meat bloody :biggrin2: I am glad you made the choice to have a little soup for dinner i really don't think it's going to hurt you - you are going to feel so much better Great on the exercise... WTG JoanneMarie - Great idea cuz I can't give alot of info on how to like them since I always have eaten them even as a kid. Thanks for that info Gail ... Katarina - Yep I will keep you all posted on how things go... But like I said - I eat the same for the most part - today had yogurt (sf) with 1/4 c granola - turkey meat loaf sandwich on lite bread (only ate 1/2 of the bread but all the meat) Dinner - well I don't know yet - but something with hamburger and veggies.. today may be a light calorie day. Gail - just experiment until you find what you like - I just make stuff up - I look in my frigde and start throwing stuff together - most of the time it comes out pretty good..

    11 months 1 week - 100 lbs Gone

Anne - I was on a cpap - 2 blood pressure meds - NO MORE cpap or blood pressure meds - Losing the weight (now 105 lbs) has given me so much more engery. I don't have arthritis so I can't help with that issue - but getting the weight off has to help - I can't beleive that I use to be walking around with 10 - 10lbs bags of potatoes on my body - heck I can lift 105 lbs but to walk around 24/7 with that much weight on my body - no wonder I was exhausted all the time.. Yes exercise is 100% easier now - I could barely do 30 mins in the beginning at like 2.5 mph - I would be dripping in sweat - I now do 3 miles 2 x week in 45 to 50 minutes (I still sweat but not like I use to) and do weight training 2 x week for an hour each time.. Losing the weight will improve your life - it really really will - I feel so great. Hugs - Janet Lynnette - You can do it! - take the word hope out of your vocabulary - replace it with WILL - Think positive - Positive affirmation really do work If you think you can't you won't - if you think you can you will.. Hugs - Janet

Kari - Love your Moon :tt2: Oh Karri - I think you would enjoy the challenge :cool2: I'm not a runner so I don't aspire to be one - but would love to compete in something if I was younger. Ruby - good idea (for karri to allow some more snacks within her calorie budget - just like last night - you didn't eat the whole cheese & cracker snack) that's how I do it I don't fight my hunger real or not at night - I feed it but just within my calorie budget. I am 100% like you - I don't buy the things that I know I have no control over - Like cookies and for me it's the whole sugar thing - like my oatmeal raisin cookies this past weekend - I would have never bought them no matter how tired i was at home - it's away from home I have to be careful of:eek: Darling we have all been trash bin diving in our own homes - you aren't the lone ranger in that one - that's why if I throw something away I make sure I can't get back too it in a moment of weakness:lol:

Gail You can post 3 pages if you want - never apoligize for telling your story that's what this place is about... Heck I am a long poster too so don't worry about it - it takes me alot of words to say what I have to say:biggrin: Ok 37 my Son's age  Don't like veggie - oh that's familar :cool2: My son is a total meat & tatoes kind of person - he didn't get if from me as I have always eaten veggie and when he was growing we didn't have $$$ for fast food - fast food was a treat and I don't think we got fast food here in the Desert until like 1978 or 79.. But now he is a big fast food eater.. Have you ever joined Weight Watcher?? That truly is a great place to learn about eating healthy.. Ck out one in your area... I attribute most of my knowledge from when I was in WW... Ok how to try out veggies - go to the store buy 1 zuchinne - come home slice it up - boil it in water until done - about 15 minutes - drain well - put in a bowl spray with I can't beleive it's not butter spray - add salt & pepper - eat :w00t: or go to a friends house who serves veggies and ask to taste them - have them put aside some for you when they cook dinner Or here take that zuchinne - slice it along with some onions bell pepper and fry in a pan with a tablespoon of oil add a little corn (frozen) a little tomatoe sauce & water cook until done and eat.. If you lived closer I would have you over for dinner so you could try out diff veggies - but since we don't all I can think of is ask your friends for some help.. Yep once a week on the scale - move move move - slow and easy - bake don't fry and keep on tracking those calories you are moving in the right direction.. Well gotta get back to work - We are here for you... Anytime... Hugs - Janet

Lori It's about the whole get stuck issue mostly I think - I got liquid gold (vicoden) after surgery - and was told to cut up big pills and eat with pudding or apple sauce. Also no NAISID period - due to stomach irriation. I take the petti calicum pills - I take a vit b that is small and will take tyenol rapid release gels when away from home and I have the liquid stuff too at home - If I am taking pills I try and do it on an empty stomach so that they don't sit in my pouch. I think most meds are going to go thru just fine if you take them on an empty tummy - event with restriction - plus I don't think they want the meds sitting in your pouch.. I took some allergy pill - but I just did it - I forget about my band most of the time - I just know that I am suppose to stay away fron Nasid - Per ellen's post they do make liquid and when in doubt call doc office the nurses should tell you - is there anything in your book about it??

Hi Katarina Sorry I didn't respond in the 50 thread - sometimes just not enough hrs in the day :0)... CONGRATS ON YOUR 1ST 20LBS - THAT'S GREAT !!! Please don't compare your weight lost with others - it can de-rail you.. We each lose weight differently - we all eat different - some can exercise more than other - some have messed up metabolisms or slow ones - a loss is a loss. A little competition is a good thing but don't let it deter you from your losses if they aren't as much as others... I am single so for me I have the time to exercise - cook healthy and no reason to have junk food in the house for others - I do have my GS living with me but he and I eat diff so his treats don't tempt me :0) No I won't have an unfill - my band is my insurance tool not to regain the weight I have lost. I have lost weight before (never this much - haven't been this weight since my early 20's) but I have always regained it - 5 lbs at a time. I am no longer in the losing weight mode - I now have to maintain which is a little difficult as I feel that I am going to be eating too much and am afraid of regaining... I did one of those calculators that said to maintain my weight with my activity level I should eat 1972 calories a day - where as in the weight lost mode I was eating 800-1200 a day.. My Trainer said I should eat about 1500 a day and see how that goes. I am eating about the same as I was prior to getting to my goal but instead of using 100% butter spray I may use butter - have added a few more calories (almonds) during the day at work when I get the munchies from the stress. So it's a combination of things upping my calories a little and eating a little more often. But I am still eating the same healthy foods and keeping up on my exercise. For the 1st yr I kept a food diary - I am no longer keeping a diary but in my head I am still counting a bit - but not religious - I am just staying on a healthy eating plan - I allow for treats but just not every day - I was visiting family last weekend - bought and ate Cookies which I would have never done at home. I have not looked at my food plan as a diet this past year - I have looked at it as a new lifetime lifestyle change in my eating - which I continue to realize that this isn't that hard - I am lucky that I got to my sweet spot on 2.5 fills (I say this as January had a 3rd fill but was too tight and had to have all but .02 of what was added taken out)

    I'm here to help...

Becky Hugs on the 3 days clear liquids - I don't understand why clear - at least full liquids - creamed Soups are what kept me sane (well some pple might argue about that ) Here I go and since this is my mentor thread I don't know if I am going to get flamed (pple get real pissed when pple tell others to go against their doctors) but - I really don't think that having creamed Soup is going to cause any problems - but that's just personal opinion. You are a grown woman and are capable of making your own choices so do what works for you.. Lori - after a fill I am suppose to do one week each phase of the post op diet - Full Liquids - Mushies - Soft - Regular - the 1st fill I pretty much followed those direction but the 2nd one I didn't I did soup for a couple of days then moved to soft/regular - I must say that for the last year I eat fish 85 if not 90% of the time - which is soft - I don't eat much chicken or beef - sometimes but not super often - Tonight I had turkey meatloaf & mashed potatoes - I will have meat loaf sandwiches for lunch the rest of the week (lite bread) I think I lost like 3 - 4 lbs the 1st week after a fill and I think that's why the doc has you go back to post op diet to boost your weight lost but can't say for sure since I really didn't follow the rules to a T.. Phyl and some others did the 5 day pouch test where you do liquids for like 3 days then soft then regular (it's to get your pouch back in shape its really for bypass but banders can do it it ) there was no way on God's green earth that I am going to voluntarily do liquids for 3 days... I like to eat - I eat healty I eat less than normal portions and my weight seems to be staying stable So Hell no to a liquid diet :sneaky::cool2: Im off to bed - ttyl
