You know that you struggle with emotional issues of confidence & esteem that comes with being fat. But you may not know that you could be what are called as an avoider. This is due to the turmoil that comes with public & private dislike for obesity and you avoid confronting your situation at because of the fear of not being able to beat it. Here is how an avoider thinks – once you deviate even slightly from a diet or healthy eating you figure you might as we drop the whole thing – this stars a cycle that avoider can’t find a way out of – We are fat we try to lose weight we deviate just a little we feel rejection for the perceived failure we isolate ourselves from people we stop talking about it, we stop the diet we eat a pound of candy – we get fat then we try to lose weight and the cycle continues Instead of avoiding bad foods avoider tend to want to avoid other things like the people who want to help them and the disciple of trying to eat healthy. Avoiders try to separate themselves from these 2 strong emotion associated with dieting. The minute you ban any food from your diet you are setting yourself up for failure. If you eat half a cookie or a couple of fires from that banned food list – the diet is dead and that’s where the guilt sets in and now you feel that you lack the strength to succeed. This shame spins you back into the cycle of avoidance When you reach an obstacle you decide that instead of trying to find a way around it you might a well turn around and go back to the beginning – four fry’s leads to a handful then the whole bag. One way to handling emotional eating is you live & eat in the now – not being upset about what you are in the past and not obsessing about what you will eat in the future. The very thing that’s designed to help people lose weight is the very thing that promotes this harder – diets promote the all or nothing mentality. In our lives we allow for a margin of error – which we should also do when trying to eat healthy – if you are eating 1000-1200 calories a day – allow for some of those calories to be used for a little bit of something you really want - you need wiggle room in your diet to make it work – the all or nothing practices has to be thrown our of your mind. You can learn to reprogram your mind to strip away the guilt that comes with dieting. You have to realize that it’s not that the first slice of cake that will doom your diet – it’s the second or third or whole thing that leads to weight gain. You have to listen to your body & respond smartly to your cravings and emotions but over time you will learn how to eat right and mange your craving and that’s when you’ll train your brain to stop obsessing about eating right and punishing yourself – If you stop overthinking you’ll stop over eating..

Maggie - I was back at work day 6 - I have a desk job - and yes up 50+ women are of a diff mindset - this isn't a quick fix for us - it's a life saving too that we need to extend our lives and give us better quailty of life too. It's about our healthy 1st and looks 2nd... Kathy - Hugs GF I am sorry for your struggles - and yes old habit are hard even a year later I have to be on guard not to let them creep back into my life.. Ok right now - right this second - not tomorrow but right now - say to yourself - OK I am so done with that - I had this surgery and I am not going to let my unhealthy habits return - it's food - I am woman I am stronger than food - I can do this! - :w00t: -

Lynn - WTG on vacation :cool2: Good Job :cursing: Yes only moist fish it's my main source of protein - I eat it 4-5 nites a week if not more... I knew I would get a response from you on that one GF - you are 100% right it's not the young snowbird like you !!! who are clogging up the roads it's the older ones who drive 25 mph in a 50 zone at 7:45 am while you are on your way to work... -
Ellen - I would say you most likely do need a fill since you haven't had one but you are 100% right about it not taking care of head hunger issues. For some fills does take away their hunger - you may be one of those - but I'm not that lucky - I still get hungry and for me it's once I start eating I don't want to stop even with the band.. I can be physically full and still have the desire to eat. And this is mostly at night when I am at home I don't keep food at my desk - cuz I would graze all day. I do have some Jerky and almonds for those times when I am absolutely starving (real hunger) but I can stay in control during the day - for me it's the night time that I have to be very careful of. When I was 1st banded I would eat my alloted dinner then sit and really think was I full or did I just want to eat more cuz it tasted good.. I really tried to listen to my body and not my head - 99% of the time I just wanted to eat more for the taste - I love the taste of food - I am a food addict... So I hear you.. The way I deal with it is avoidance... I don't have stuff in my house that I can over indulge on - well ya I do sf pudding & sf fudgecicle, 100 pack popcorn - Lite Pringles - bite size tostedos and ff beans.. but all these things are better and lower in calories that the stuff with fat and sugar. When I wasn't at my sweet spot - I did ok during the day but at night when I was still hungry I ate and extra cup of veggies - being a ww girl to me veggies are almost free as far as calorie I will take a 1/2 c refried Beans add some green onion - salsa - ff cheese and make a bean dip and eat with 14 tostedo bite size chips. I am full on this - it will be my lunch sometimes on the weekends.. I have alway budged my calories Breakfast 200 - Lunch 200 - Dinner 300 - Snacks 200 or 300 - I saved my snacks for when I am the hungriest which for me is night time Journaling is excellent they say - I just saw Valeria Bertanelli (sp) on Rachael Ray this morning - that is what she said she did.. Also for me like on the weekend - I would get out of the house - as long as I am doing something I don't think about eating - sitting in the house - am alway looking in the kitchen for something - what I don't know but something. Sometime you have to find away to feed your head hunger without going overboard - If you keep denying cravings you will want it that much more that's why I have my sf puddings & fudge cicles - This is a struggle that we all have - I wish I had the magic answer - cuz if I did I would be a TRILLIONAIRE:lol::lol:-. Just think - am I really hungry or am I trying to soothe myself - what's bugging me - get out of the house if you can - eat something lite and within you calorie budget, And yes the more you exercise the more you can eat cuz your body burns more calories just breathing if you have muscle - this is why weight training is so good Congrat on your parents 64 wedding anniversary - that's fantastic - heck if they want to stay home tonight let them - there is always tomorrow to go to dinner or lunch - Watching your 3 yr gs - that's a tough one - all day... OMW after 2 hrs my 4 yr gd wears me out Go take him for a walk or to the park.. There is some fun exercise... Gettin - 1st you have done well by not giving into your I screw up mentally - Again this is not a diet - you had a treat this weekend at your nieces wedding - that's allowable - that's life - even pple without a weight problem have cake, foods they don't normally eat every day and a couple of drinks - but that's one day then the next day you go back to eating healthy and increase your exercise a bit to make up for the eating - you don't beat yourself up... WTG :w00t: on putting on the gym clothes and going to the gym... Lori - No a/c and pushing 90 - you are better than me 80 is when the a/c comes on and stays on.:cursing:. Congrats on the pants that's a great nsv.. be proud.. Glad to hear that the cream is working.. WTG in getting rid of stuff to graze on :cool2:- it's still avoidance for me - I am no longer keeping a diary but I have changed my eating - even today when I went food shopping - I read lables - I was in target hadn't eaten all day and it was noon - looked at a box of jr mints 220 c for the box and said ya that's within your calories that would be the same as breakfast - but thought - iwhat nutrient's does it have - it's sugar and fat and when you eat sugar you just want more so I said- nope i am not eating this - so just waited til I got home and had my fish left over from the night before.. I normally want real food before junk.. not always but most of the time Another way that I deal with my food issue is being creative in the kitchen - I fix stuff that I will really enjoy eating when it's time to eat - I just now make the meal healthier - less fat less butter not starch loaded. It's a challenge - but that being said I did and still do eat mostly the same foods - I read some where that pple who do this do better with their weight... Hungry eat something a piece of fruit - a 100 calorie snack pack -(whatever you are craving but try and do liter stuff like snack pack Cookies or crackers) but when you are eating - don't do it mindlessly - enjoy it...

Lori - you are doing excellent - and yes if you lost 8 lbs last week you might not see any this week - but a year from now it will all average out.. That would be fun to go celeberity watching- I would hate the traffic issues though - here in the Desert during the winter we have alot of snowbird (yes Phyl is one ) who come to the desert and clogged up our roads - plus that's when they do all the road construction - so between the 2 - our roads are a mess during the winter months... -
Joiful Sorry for your struggles and Hope you don't mind too much that a 7/07 bander is popping in to give you a little advice.. Your band is only a tool - it dosen't make your food choices for you. It (the band) is never going to stop you from bad habits. It will control your portions when you have proper restriction - but you can eat around the band even with restriction I have restriction but if I choose to eat mashed potatoes with tons of butter I could - I can eat chips & dip - cookies - ice cream - shakes etc my band doesn't really work on these types of food. This is truly a lifetime lifestyle change in your eating habits - diets don't work - cuz when you go off them - you go back to eating normal - which is what got us fat in the first place.. It takes a while for some to get good restriction but in the mean time you gotta do the work in changing how you eat - if you are hungry eat extra veggies - go for a walk - clean the bathroom - get on the computer come here - your Butterfiles are here for you. Good Luck !!

JoannMarie - I doubt that but thanks anyway !!! Just got back from the gym - did 4 miles this morning 1 hr 5 minutes - now just cooling off and gotta figure what I am going to do today - need to clean, wash Iron - food shop - or I could just hang out in front of the tv with a good book (reading faye kellerman's latest - peter & rina decker series love them - I am catholic but I think I was jewish in another life - maybe it's that both religions have so many rituals )

Orea Is fish on your mushie list ?? Some dover sole or any soft white fish baked - but maybe it's not on your list or you don't like fish - I love fish - I should be a fish monger. Being in Cali - I am lucky that I have good access to fresh fruits & veggies at the grocery store... Apples - I can do but without the skin - the skin is too much - Plums are the same way - I can eat but have to do it very slowly and small bite. Right now I have a good watermelon in the fridge... -
Steph - My fur babies don't let me sleep - But I do nap ... So I will nap for you how about that.:w00t:. Sunday I did sleep til 9:30 - but that's cuz I was out and drinking the night before..- on those days I do sleep in.. Well did 4 miles today in 1 hr 5 minutes.. I am really swollen today - must have had too much salt yesterday... So I gotta get my water in today.. I need to vaccum my room - wash - iron - and food shop... but who know's what i am going to do - I am cooling off from my workout so whatever strikes me to do I guess that's what I'll do.. Well off to my other threads. CBL:w00t:

Phyl - Kari Congrats on your bmi and losing that pound.. I have always found that those weeks that I did increase my calories a bit I lost more weight. How's your biking - you don't talk about it much anymore?? I like staying home really - it's a real vacation - not haveing to be some where at a certain time - doing my hair and make up - I am really an introvert - most pple wouldn't think that of me - but I am - I need my time to recharge... JB I have heard the same thing - I met a girl who had the surgery when I was in Vegas in June - She had lost 250 lbs with the band and the scar was noticable but not bad - it had been less than 6 months - My baby GD (4) asked what happen to my arms when I was visting a couple of weeks ago - Well - cooler weather will be here soon (hopefully) longer sleeve help - maybe next y I will have the surgery - plus they have a new on where the make a hole in your arm pit and pull the saggy skin up something like that - but I would have some cut arms from all my exercise if it wasn't for the skin issues - but I will take them a my battle scars for now - my badge of honor - I lost the weight and that's the result - but I lost the weight and that's what is most important to me.. I'll take the skin issue.. -

Marie - Hi & Welcome I was 52 when banded my insurance required an overnight stay in the hospital - I think my surgery was an hour or so - I was back to work day 6 - desk job.. Saggy skin most likely but this is the way I think about it - what's worse the fat or saggy skin - the saggy skin isn't going to kill you but the fat will. Plus that's what they make plastic surgeron for.. I have lost 105 lbs - my arms are pretty saggy - boob too tummy not too bad and legs - well at 53 I'm not wearing mini skirts so who care.. Can't help on the doc issue - I live in Cali Lapbandnana- Welcome and congrats on your weight loss you are doing great.. MaryD Hi & Welcome too you are doing great 13 lbs in less than 3 weeks that's 4.33 a week - that is just super - your weight loss will depend on a lot of things how much you have to lose - your food intact - and your physical activitiy.. I know that you feel you should be losing 10 lbs a day but remember we didn't gain 10 lbs in one day so it's not going to come off that fast... Lapbanders on the average lose 1 - 2 lbs a week.. Some lose faster some lose slower - it's very individual - Heck I gotta tell you I lost 100 in 11 months and some weeks I only lost 1/2 lbs - I will tell you that I was alway happy with those 1/2 lbs losses - they added up real fast.. Nancy you are so great - you will know if you have restricition once you eat some solid protein.. Fran - CONGRATS.... :tt1: Lizalee - What a GREAT NSV... Happy for you... Orea - Yep each stage gets old after awhile - how much longer to regular food. Lori - CONGRATULATIONS  You should have bought the large cuz before you know it that xl is going to be too big... Lizalee - I know about buying stuff that in a month or 2 was too big... But I work in an office and have to semi dress and it felt so good going from 18/20's to 14's then 12's then 10's then 8's then 6's ... I couldn't help myself... Well my gf's who where 14 12 10 & 8 have some new clothes and the 2X went to the local shelter.. Becky - Yet lapband talk is the best.. Candice is right - a year from now you will be a new person. -
Phyl I wish I sweets did that to my I have a cast iron stomach :crying: sorry you had a tummy ache but at least you got the stuff out - didn't stay in your system too long :wink2: I really didn't plan on doing much for this week off - after all my trips its will be nice to stay home and not put makeup on... The only thing I did want to do was go to the beach... Well theres always next yr... Plus I have been spending too much $$$ and got regroup here - so I will be on here on lbt - reading - cleaning - and a little school shopping.. Plus tonite I asked Idries (my trainer) if we were working out on Labor Day and he said yes - no rest for the wicked... Steph How's your Mom - doesn't she go next month for her PS??? Tell her Hi for me ok.... I have been thinking about her over the last couple of days.. My computer kicked me off a bit ago too. Then I try and get back on lbt and it can't find the website - I have to reboot and then it will let me get back on.. Proud of you for throwing the cobbler away - but oh my sounds good - would love a little bit w/ice cream - but for me I have to be good during the week - and on Saturday - is my treat day.. Well, watch the DNC - Loved seeing Ted Kennedy up there making a speech with all that he is going through..
-
Ellen how nice - it makes you feel special when doctors call and follow up. I know that my dentist does that after I have seen him and that special touch can mean everything to a person.. I am glad that it helped with the head hunger issue.
-
Darling some young men like older more experience women - you never know :biggrin2: Take the flirt and enjoy... Sweets and the band - too bad it doesnt stop them - I had a mexican wedding cookie that had choc frosting - omg it was to die for - but I bought only one - my gf bought all these litte tarts and pies that would be 4 servings - but if I had bought them it would have been 1 - so I just didn't buy them - just one cookie - moderation - but had 3 drinks Sat night... :tt1: Ok I am off to watch DNC too.. Will CBL :wink2:
-
:crying: :wink2: Good - I went and looked back thru my lucky #7 thread where we talked about it - but heck we have 750 pages and I don't remember when we talked about it - I would say around my 2nd fill which was in October so which is around page 400 or so - I will look later since I am off for the rest of the week I will have more time - it was pretty profound if my over inflated mind - but there was a great thing about will power - if you are bored - it's a good thread to read - you don't have to start at page one cuz there is alot of chatter about having out dates etc - but I would say starting page 200 and forward is about our jounery... Our thread is the most viewed threads... check out the stats http://www.lapbandtalk.com/stats.php
-
We had to do our diversity & sexual harrassment on line so it wasn't so bad but ya - I think most pple now a days know about this stuff - but gotta say I have a gf who works in a one girl office and she isn't to polictically correct - so go figure.. Thanks Candice - he is doing better - saw the car today - isnt that bad but one of his wheels broke into 2 pieces. They are tearing it apart to ck the damage... God was on his shoulder that day... The tow truck pple stole his ipod - bastards... and we can't find the gate clicker - but it could be under the seat - we did get the garage door opener.. Great on your calories - yes you can get back on tract and you have done good in not gaining... I really think that my exercise is what had kept me in the maintain mode - may go up a pound but then it comes right off - try and increase your exercise before you get your snow or it's too cold.. Ya I am going to watch the DNC in just a few - but I am already sick of all the negative campainging ... It makes me sick - stick to the fricking issues.. not how many houses you have or that Joe Biden your vp talked poop about you when he was running against you - what do you expect - heck whomever Obama picked and they were running for office tagainst him hey would have talked crap - come on we are highly evloved... Watermelon for breakfast - tuna salad for lunch - bean dip & chips for snack - dinner will be fish veggies and rice.. 1 hr weight training...
-
Gail CONGRATULATION GIRL WAY TO GO - SEE YOU CAN DO IT :tt1: When I was talking about depending too much on fills it wasn't directed at anyone and especially you - I know that you haven't had one in ages but that your doc wants to see your commitment before he fills you again - he want to see that you are using your tool and are committed to eating healthy I was talking in general - when we all are 1st banded all we think about is a fill and then we read all the other pples stories about fills - I know that for me I was comparing myself to others on this board - and we have to all find out what our sweet spot it.. and it will be diff for each of us.. Like I said - for me even just that .02 added was enough to say I was totally at my sweet spot - did that .02 really make that much diff in my restriction - a tad but not much - this is where I mean it's can be - a physiological issue for us at time... Today - when I eat - I think I have eaten too much - but I am not gaining weight - but for me to now eat more than I did before either in volume or by calorie count - it's strange.. Again - WTG you are doing great with the eating healthy & exercise :smile2:
-
I am offically on vacation - don't go back to work til next Tues -Yipeh !!! Phyl you have been doing so much traveling and eating out - for me that would be the hardest.. Now that you aren't going be on the road til you come back down here - you will get back on tract.. How's your restriction or is it just those liquid carlories :smile2: and lack of exercise getting to you.. Have you been doing your Wii?? Dionna -Suggestion - You may have done this already but go back to a page where we were actually banded and read forward... You will see our journey.. I don't know how far you will have to go back but maybe start at page 100 and read forward.. Well I am on vacation but what am I going to do besides not go to work - still have gym tonite & wed nite - will go in the morning tomorrow though - can't go spend $$$ - school clothes - deductible for insurance - car registration - bills - So I guess I will wash clothes - iron - clean house - maybe clean the garage - but it's too humid right now and will have to buy bug spray bet there are some black widows in there... Wanted to take a day trip to the beach but with Andrew's back - we can't do that. Oh when and saw the car today (he needed stuff out of it) not too bad - but one of the rims broke in half.. They are still inspecting won't know til Wed or Thurs how bad it's damaged.. Well, just cking in... CBL:tongue:
-
Which means we are more than NORMAL :tt2: we are highly evolved  Karri - I agree with you about meetings normally a big time waster..
