A staff meeting after hours - what's that about - are they paying you?? How many pple in your office - sound like a lot of drama is going on - I thought it was a small office - Like you and just 1 other girl and the doctor.. But from what I gather in your little tid bits - there are more than 3 of you.. Yep that car in the back ground is the Dodobird I think... I remember a green car and thats what we called it.. I am pretty sure that pic was taken in like 59 Dec I just loved seeing these pic's - there is one in the snow of me my mom & michael and our dog lady girl - omw I started to cry when I saw that picture.. I was throwing a snow ball at my mom and she was smiling.. My mom has been gone for 38 yrs.. I wish she had stayed alive so that we could have become friends .. Only one more day and sunshine here you come - We are suppose to get rain next week.. Have fun on your vacation - make sure to wear your sunblock.. Remember we want pictures.. xoxox Janet

Lori - I wouldn't worry about a little coffee in the morning that usually gone within an hour - but I hear ya on the lite clothing :0)... I weigh nake  Joann - I guess that's most of my bfs & my xdh were extrovets - I would say my xdh was one... I am not shy at all - heck I will talk to complete strangers in the stores etc. But most pple do think that they go hand in hand. Yep I loved that "Gifted Part"":w00t::ohmy:
-
Lori - What time is your weigh in early Monday - I would take both before you go to bed sunday nite - you might not get alot of sleep - but heck $700 is worth a little loss sleep... Apples -Sorry for your childhood struggles - but you sound quite happy and being happy is what counts Yep I am totally an interovert - Being an introvert doesn't mean you are shy - I know most pple think that but it's not what an introvert is I like being around pple but find them draining after a length of time - I use to belong to Insurance Women of Desert - it was a chapter of NAIW (nat assoc of Ins Wmn) we had conventions etc - I was President one year - any way when we would go to convention - after about 2 days of being with pple 24/7 smiling, making polite conversation etc - I would need a break - The lady I roomed w/knew this and I would go up to the room alone and get a couple of hours alone time to recharge my batteries... Here I googled - what's the meaning of an introvert - it says just what I said above.. Definition: Contrary to what most people think, an introvert is not simply a person who is shy. In fact, being shy has little to do with being an introvert! Shyness has an element of apprehension, nervousness and anxiety, and while an introvert may also be shy, introversion itself is not shyness. Basically, an introvert is a person who is energized by being alone and whose energy is drained by being around other people. Introverts are more concerned with the inner world of the mind. They enjoy thinking, exploring their thoughts and feelings. They often avoid social situations because being around people drains their energy. This is true even if they have good social skills. After being with people for any length of time, such as at a party, they need time alone to "recharge." When introverts want to be alone, it is not, by itself, a sign of depression. It means that they either need to regain their energy from being around people or that they simply want the time to be with their own thoughts. Being with people, even people they like and are comfortable with, can prevent them from their desire to be quietly introspective. Being introspective, though, does not mean that an introvert never has conversations. However, those conversations are generally about ideas and concepts, not about what they consider the trivial matters of social small talk. Introverts make up about 60% of the gifted population but only about 25-40% of the general population. This fits me to a T... So I guess this is why I like being single - even being around a DH is draining - heck he would sometime get a little upset that I would go into my bedroom to watch t.v. Heck I work all day and when I get home I like my quite time So for me - pple like you who are around pple 24/7 and always doing something all the time - is just so mind boggling to me - just reading what you do on a daily basis exhaustes me

Apples You are just to damn busy for me - cooking - baking - voluneerting doing the books - clean - decorating - omw you are busy 24/7 - do you ever rest!!! Type A personality???? I am pretty kicked back- I hate having too much on my plate - after the last 2 weeks - I am looking forward to some down time this weekend.. I can go for a few weeks - then I need some do nothing time - well I do small things but nothing that has any pressure - nothing that I have to be some where at a certain time.. I am really an introvert !!! People would never guess that about me but I am... Charlene - It's mostly the stress - the salt didn't help - but not the main cause.. Glad your blood work is good..

Lynn The way I look at it is that I can have 10 sf pudding instead of 1 piece of cake - to me I am still a volume eater - and I would rather have 10 of something than 1 of something else.. I don't feel as bad when I over do it on sf lf stuff as when I do real stuff - and if you over do it with the real stuff heck you can really blow it calorie wise.. So don't sweat the small stuff - eating too many sf things - they aren't doing half the damage the real stuff would be doing on your body.. I know that when my DS & Xdil broke up and had issues with custody of my GS I had the same heartaches - but the judge gave them joint custody - and look I ended up with him anyway - (Had him with me from birth till about 4 then on and off from 4 to 8 - and now I have had him since he was 11 (17 now). It will workout in the end - I know that's hard to accept now - but unless the Dad is a stellar individual with no ghost in his closets - it should be ok for your daughter - heck - the courts do want to see kids with their Mom 1st - I know that they only give to Dads if Mom has some major issues.. Hugs - It really will work out - give it time - it usually always does.. -

Lynn - Hugs 1st and foremost for your struggles... Plan - have sf chocolate in the house - the sf dark choc puddings are good - the healthy choice or ww sf fudgecicles are good. These are choc - but I had some sf Wethers (sp) little toffee had candies in my purse. This way you can feed it without going over boards. Other than that - go clean out a sock drawwer - your make up - get on the computer - go for a walk - read a self help book.. Distractions.. Also, God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. -
Lori Hell I would take 2 fricken water pills and some laxatives to win the $700 !!! OK girl get your butt in gear... You want that $700!!!!
-
Thanks Denise - I love that era too - I love looking at the pic's from then - Family was so important back then - I think that's what's wrong with socioty today - no more family units.. To many single parents - too much indulgence in drugs - so on and so forth - it's the all about me not about us - Well most of us here remember the Us days.. Hugs - as I have said a million times before - I dont think I could do your job... Yep Donna I couldn't agree more - I have some black and white photos from when I was about 21/2 and my bro Jimmy was 1 1/2 before Michael was born - even in the black and white photos you can tell we have little red cheeks all dressed up with our parents - Dad looking like Desi Arnez and Mom in Lucy dresses - We were one cute family - even if I do say so myself

Charlene -Snow !!! How neat... We haven't had any in years - but every few yrs one part of the Desert may get some snow. Back in 2000 when I was with DH we got a little snow at his place in Desert Hot Springs.. Hugs GF wish I could do more !!! Vent all you want - cry - yell - rant - rave - whatever you need to do, Ok eating a little texas trash isn't bad - it's life - well as long as you didn't eat a pound of if :0)... I know that you are still in the weight loss mode - so you feel that it's bad - but it's not - we gotta quit that mentallity - Moderation - that's what it's all about... But you are right to get back on the Band Wagon once you have allowed yourself a treat... Heck sometimes those treast spur on a weight loss.. Hugs - Enjoy the time you have while DH is off - do things that you ususally don't have time to do together - I know it's easy for me to say - but make the best you can out of this tough situation,, Becky - Glad you are exercising that will counter act the cookie dough - again that little bit of dough isn't going to put on 5 lbs or even 1 - heck like I told Charlene those little treats sometime will improve your weight loss.. I have a perfect corner for that tree of yours - I may just have to do something like than next year... Lori - So glad that you could help someone - I know the rewards of giving - it truly is better than receiving :0) Great plan - Indulge at your family gathering - that's how you do it.. I bet now with your new mini job which includes the added exercise you will see the scales move.. Vary your calories each day - eat healthy & exercise it will come off.. Apples I was in bed by 8:30 last night :tt2: Good Morning Gang - Just cking in to see how you are all doing and it sounds like everyone is doing GREAT !!! I gotta get some work done - so off I go - but will check back later - Enjoy your day..

Lowe - I would tell that doctor of yours that the band is only a tool -and you understand that and have proven that you can change your eating habits (proof of 64 lbs lost -congrats) but that if the tool isn't working properly then it's of no use - it's to provide restriction - that's why you had the darn surgery.. -
How is everyone tonite.. My trainer had an appointment - so make up session is Saturday at 9.. So no gym tonite ... How has everyones day been - 15 days till the big day... OMW there was tons of sweets in the lunch room today.. So I guess the gifts are coming in now.. Well, here's what I did last year and never gained a pound during the holidays - so I will do it again this year. I say no to all the treats in the office - but yes to eating some of the Cookies I make with my Granddaughters.. So if you have something special like that - that you know you can't say no to - then just say no to the other stuff that isn't important.. I think I am having a hamburger patty (bbq) veggies and maybe some mashed potatoes tonite.. Well - I guess I should go watch the news and find out what's going on in the world- I haven't watched it much lateley.. CBL

Phyl - I totally agree !!! But I thought that's cuz I am such a rebel... -
How long after surgery did the bad habits creep back in?
IndioGirl55 replied to mgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok Gang... Here's the 411... Till you get proper restriction your band isn't going to do a whole lot for some of you - others it will. But that being said even when you do get restriction - you will still be able to eat certain foods that we call slider foods such as ice cream - chips - Cookies & candy. The Band is not a diet - diet's don't work as the saying goes. Once you get to a goal on a diet then we go back to eating regular - which is what got us fat in the first place. You must take the word diet out of your vocaublary and replace it with healthy eating... You will still get hungry when you have proper restriction - so what are you going to reach for and ice cream cone or 4 oz of meat.. This is no diff than any other program out there - this is about eating healthy - this is where making a lifetime lifestyle change... With the band if you eat that 4 oz of meat you are going to be full - if you eat that ice cream cone you aren't and then you are going to go looking for something else to eat... I will tell you all I am a 1 yr 1/2 out and I will eat dinner and be physically full - but still feel hungry - I am not really hungry - but my head tells me I am - so I feel that I am and my stomach is saying no you aren't. So please know that even with proper restriction there is going to be work to do on your part - You are the one who choose what you eat not the band - it's you who choose to exercise not the band. The band makes the hard job of losing weight a little easier once you get restriction - but it's still work. The band will make you feel full sooner on a smaller amount of food and you will stay full for 3 or 4 hrs -but you are still going to get hungry - and that candy bar is going to look better than those 4 oz of fish are - Which are you going to choose to eat So don't make this about dieting - Make this about making a lifetime lifestyle change - by eating healthy and exercising. I never have thought of myself as being on a diet for this last 1 yr & 1/2 - I eat healthy - I have treats now and then but I stay within my calorie budget and if I go over then I eat a little less at my next meal or go to the gym for an extra day.. So what I guess I am trying to say is - Even if you don't have restriction - try and eat healthy - try and get to the gym - try and beat back that little devil on your shoulder telling you it's ok to eat that candy bar ... You all had major surgery - they banded our tummies not our brains and really that's where our problems lie... Good Luck !!!! -
Joann Yep homemade is so so very much better - another 50 lady told me that in the beginning of my journey and I made homemade broth and froze it prior to my surgery... I would say that I remember being full on 1/2 c when I was at your stage... Learning what is your new full will take a little bit of time - heck - I still tend to over eat some days even now.. I know I am physically full but it's that mental issue that's still a problem sometimes... I am so glad you are feeling better - take your time - don't rush things each day you will see an improvement..

Hockeyson Pick one day a week that you get on the scale - Mine was the day that I came home from the hospital Thursday - that was my weigh in day - that's the only day that the #'s on the scale mattered - I didn't get on too much during the week cuz I found that it would very too much from day to day.. One day a week - that's it... Didn't they fix the herina while you were being banded - I have read that alot of pple get their's fix when banded.. I know that my doc told me if I had one that he would fix it then.. My doc said I could walk but not to do any crunches for a while - it's the port site you have to be careful of.. I don't remember being afraid of real food - I kept a food diary/log for the 1st year- weighed and measued my foods for about the first 3 months til I learned what a serving size was - I atet out of 1 cup bowls and salad plates (still do) I eat healthy - low fat - mostly sugar free - some carbs (I have rice evernight for dinner) I exercised 4-5 times a week on a treadmill - slowly at first but each week increased my time and speed - Today I am up to 3 miles in like 50 minutes on inclines from 0 to 15 - and weight train twice a week - Now I go to the gym about 2-3 times a week.. And since I have never dieted (you know with diets you go off them once you get to goal and go back to eating normal which got you fat in the 1st place - thats' why diets don't work) during this last 1 yr & 1/2 - I have just continued my healthy eating - I have had no problems maintaining... -
Ok, I think its time. Doctors in Los Angeles?

Brendan I just had a consultation with Dr Suzanne Trott in Beverly Hills - Linden Dr off of Little Santa Monica & Whilshire.. I went for my arms - My Lapband Doc recommended her as they went to school together and she board certifited and does alot of surgeries on weight loss patients. I really liked her - and most likely will be scheduling surgery in May - gotta find the time & $$$ :tt1: I don't have her card with me - but just google her name - she has a website.. Good Luck !!! -

mnorman - Welcome - here is a link that shows you how to get a ticker http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f5/ticker-tutorial-pictures-41782/ You don't need tricks with the band - all you need to do is not think of this as a diet - but as a lifetime lifestyle change in your eating - I have not dieted since 7/17 - I eat healthy and I exercise to improve my health... Hockymom - 16 lbs in less than a month - wtg - yes you are being too picky we aren't bypass pple - they lose weight quickly as they don't absorb their carlories where we do - Like Orea said - 1 to 2 lbs a week is to be expected - heck some weeks I lost only 1/2 lbs - but I was always happy - cuz it was a loss. We think that it should be falling off left & right cuz we are now eating so much less - but it's doesn't work that way - but let me tell you all those 1 - 2 - 3 lbs losses do add up over a years time - so don't look at the short term - look at the long term - this isn't a diet - it's a lifestyle change.. -
Becky - Will have to ck out Soft Surroundings and a tree in your bedroom - OM... How neat is that - I might do that next year - but heck in a way it would be a waste cuz I really only sleep in there... As far as being a fat chick in a skinny body - I think that in some sistuations we always will be - it's our insecurities coming thru - but as time goes by - that's what we have to work on... Cuz of that stupid fat chick inside of us can cause us to put the weight back on - we gotta keep the skinny chick in the front of our minds... Sooverit - I am still here - Yep I started this thread and it's one of the 3 I post to.. I post here - 50's and my Lucky #7 and respond to my pm's. Ya when I woke up from surgery - my 1st thought was wtf have i done... but as each day went by - it got better and I was lucky it was only 6 wks from my 1st consultation to surgery and I had tons - I mean tons of doctors appointments in those 6 weeks - heck I had my colonoscopy on 7/13 and my surgery was on 7/17... Yep for me the eating healthy and exercise has been a walk in the park 98% of the time... Do I miss eating large quainties - ya sometimes - do I miss eating sacks of candies - ya sometimes - but you know what - I don't miss them enought to start doing them again - I love feeling 10 yrs younger - I love the way I feel when I get dressed in the morning - I love the way on the weekends I can throw anything thing on as not say to myself - Aw this makes me look fat (like at 250 anything I wore would make me look thinner) I was fat - I know this now... I didn't then - denial isn't a river but a state of mind that we subscribe to.. As far as your grammer - don't worry about it - Heck my spelling is terrible and so is my grammer - my fingers can't keep up with my brain and I am always dropping or leaving out words - or typing no when I mean now - or hear when I meant here.. No english teachers here - this site is for support - we aren't in grade school any longer - great part of being a grown up... Ellen We Love you and if we could we would help you more - just know that we are here for you... Hugs Janet

Here's some pic's from I would say the whole family 1959 - Michael looks about 1 - Jimmy 2 - Me 3 - not sure it could have been taken in 1960 - then the pic of me and my Dad with My Aunt El & Jimmy would be about 57 - These were slides I found at my bro's house - I had not seen some of these pics.. The one with my Mom in yellow and cousin Sandra was like in 5 I think I am like 2
-
Karri - You are back on track my baby girl - I am so proud of you... I knew you could do it... I love the run 3 walk 1 - It would be walk 3 run 1/4 for me Phyl - You going to Fisherman's Market??? Sounds good - I am hungry had lima bean soup for lunch 1/2 choc chip cookie - dinner will be chicken - pasta or rice - and a veggie... Kari - OMW what a change from the 1st pic you posted of yourself and grandbabies... Darling you look marvelous
-
Lori - It will come - I am ok now in department stores - don't feel too much like an imposter - but went into Cachet (a boutique store in the mall) now there I really felt like an imposter and on El Paseo too (it's the rodeo dr of the desert - but they have Ann Taylor Loft and a Black & White store Chico's & Coldwater - all stores that I love - but have only ventured there once)
