We must be behind the times here in the Desert - we still have 5 day school - Palm Springs Unified School District does have year round school for the elementary kids - but high schools are on regular schedule - and the district I'm in (Desert Sands) still has regular school schedule but they have something what's it called mathe & sicense combined and one week you have 2 hrs of math then the next week 2 hrs of sicience but they intermingle them - something like that I can't remember the word for it.. It was werid though .. I don't know if I could work 10 hr days - I like having 3 days off but working from 7 to 6 (hr for lunch) would be hard - heck most days I can't wait til 4 - but my bosses are too old fashion - we did try to get then to do it a few years ago and they said no. We have to have pple here on Fridays - but they just don't get it - it can be staggered - but again my bosses are buffonos (sp)

Claudine Yep we lose our insulation !!! I hope I am colder this summer :0) will help with the A/C bills  Congrats on your 2 lbs - That's great I know that those losses help to keep the motivation going and yes staying away from carbs does help. I am far from an Atkins person - cuz I still do eat carbs/starches but not alot - and I don't count carbs in veggies or fruit.. Have a Great Weekend and enjoy your good weather.. Hugs Janet

No get out of jail free cards - Exercise in anticipation of over eating - ah - I don't know if that one will work - cuz you can't pre-burn calories - then that give you license to over eat - so no I don't think so - not that I want to make exercise a punishment just a something to add into your new lifestyle - if you wanta eat you gotta exercise - and we (fat chick's) can still have the tendacy to go back to our old ways - and once we get off track its so much harder for us to get back on ... I played wii at my DS house last weekend - they don't have the fit part - just the game part -my 5 yr old gd kicked my butt..
  4. Darling take a chill pill - no one is attacking you - or at least I'm not I guess I got good advice and knew what to expect. When I joined lapband talk -I went to the 50's thread as I felt they were the most like me Gotta say that they had me totally prepared for the surgery - pain - the time between surgery - first fill - told me how to navigate lbt - where the food thread was how to get a ticker etc... Hugs truly for being so frustrated - and sorry that your appointment got pushed back - When you do get to see your doctor - I would tell him all the things you have vented here about - he should know how you feel.. It will be ok - have a little patience - it will all come in due time - Peace Out...
  5. I don't understand this statement then - NOTHING prepared me for what i am going through right now
  6. Ok I gotta put this out there and I don't mean to be a smart A$$ But when you say you researched - where did you research - I have heard this from others - they did all this research and don't know what bping is or slime - it's just like you don't know what bandester hell is.. When I researched - I googled lapband - first I got obesity help website - but didn't like that so much mostly bypass pple there and then googled lapband again and found this site.. This is where I did my research - talking to pple who had 1st hand experience with what it's like to be banded - You docs are banded for the most part they don't know what to expect - heck they most likely aren't fat - they don't understand our compulsion to eat - for most we are just money making machines for them.. I am lucky I had a great doc - with a nutritionist etc - but I can tell you what - I have more info that he does on what it's like to be banded - I think all bariactic surgeon should have actual pple who have had the procedures done talk to the pple looking into being banded - so that we can give them 1st hand knowledge.. When I went to see my doc I had a list of questions that I found here - he was impressed with my knowledge of the lapband and all that when with it.. I just don't understand when pple say they researched and they don't know common stuff..

Darling - I can't fix it - I wish I could - so Vent away !!! But heres a suggestion that might hellp with the $$$ issues - send in smaller amounts on you lb & ps bills - that will help - call them up and re-neogiate your payment - most credit places are doing that now a days with pple getting laid off - I even heard Suzie Orman say something on that the last time I watched her - it can't hurt to try and something is better than nothing... We had our Friday potluck for the pple who brown bag - we had home made ck pot pie - I had 1/2 of c max and only a bite of the crust - spinach salad with light balsamic dressing and no dessert - I have had 26 oz of water and am almost half was thru the 20 bottle now - oh had to stop and take a drink - now offically 36 oz of water only 28 more oz to go - no ticket for me today Steph !!!! Breakfast kashi oatmeal... 11. Here's my Experience My doc doesn't fill til 8 weeks out.. as they want your stiches to heal and not to put undue stress on the while healing With banding your aren't going to lose the weight super quickly - and after you do lose those first few weeks very quickly its going to slow down - with lapband 1-2 lbs a week is average - and with the lapband you are only expected to lose 50-60% of your excess weight.. Those are the statistics of the lapband and also it can take up to 2 yrs to lose that 50 to 60 % of your excess weight Now here is the big one - and you may get upset with me saying it - but it's the truth - and this is comming from someone who as 21 months under her belt. YOU DO NEED WILL POWER WITH THE BAND OR ANY WLS The band doesn't make your food choices for you even when you are properly restricted - candy ice cream cookies cakes chips and adult beverages all slip right thru the band. You band is only a tool - you have to make healthy low fat limited sugar food choices - it's about eating your protien first then veggie and if any room some carb. Ok so you don't have tons of restriction right now This is what you do - you eat your 4 oz of hard protein (meats) then follow that with a cup of veggies with I can't beleive its not butter spary and then if you have room 1/4 cup starch and if you are still starving eat some more veggies.. Weigh and measure your foods - track your calories keep them between 800 to 1200 max - vary them daily - eat low fat - limited sugar and carbs - Get out and get some exercise - as losing weight and maintaning it is all about calories in vs calories burned even with the band. For me my band doesn't take away my hunger - it makes me feel fuller on a smaller amount of food - I can be phyiscally full and still want to eat (head hunger) and this head hunger manifest its self into physical hunger - and it really does take a while to figure it out what is real hunger verse head hunger

Rose FYI - I read somewhere that is best to stick with the same menu and not to add too much variation - this was about eating healthy altogether nothing to do with the band - don't really remember all the ins and out - I ate zuchinnee & yellow squash for the 1st yr - then got a little sick of it - but had some yellow squash while at ds house and will go back to buying it.. Good luck you car shopping - I hate dealing with car salespeople - they are worse than insurance sales pple :0) Yea Julie - Glad you get to go home !~!!!! Meredith The ban hasn't been around for 20 15 yrs yet - insurance just started approving it in 2001 - so there aren't a lot of USA statistics to go on.. But that being said in England & Austriala they have been doing it for a while - but I don't think 15-20 yrs It will depend on how you take care of your band - plus the luck of the draw - that's how I looked at it... I had to do something - and I wanted it instead of bypass. If I lost my band I would have the sleeve done - it doesn't require maintenance - but I don't think insurance covers the sleeve -
  14. IndioGirl55

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I had glue too. I measured too and the #'s really didn't go down that much till I got close to goal - I don't have those #'s here at work but I remember being shocked that they weren't lower - plus with the loss of the fat - us older gals have the issue of skin so our measurement can differ - If I ordered pants by what my waist measurement is actually (I think a 30 or 31) I would be wearing 10's - I wear a 4 so if I measure those pants it's like a 26-27 waist... You have gone from a 3 to a 1 so be happy concentrate on those numbers.. Hi Dot - You are doing great !!! Congrats on 63 lbs !!! As to hair loss - I don't think anyone has a real answer and even my doc eluded to that - some say it's surgery - some protein - some biotin- some fat.. I think it's a very individual thing - even pple who get all their protein can lose their hair - I had a gf who did medifast no surgery and she lost tons of hair but got all her proteins - so it's the luck of the draw imho.... Oregon - was too tight and didn't know it - could eat with no problems - but was getting reflux - she was either stretch her esophagus (sp) or something like that - don't remember the exact issue she had to get unfilled - she is going with sleeve cuz it's most like the band without the maintenance (fill issues) they don't reroute your innars - they just give you a smaller stomach like the band does but it's surgical (cut the majority of your tummy away) Alot of pple who have trouble with their bands are going for the sleeve and some are saying if they knew about it before they would have done it - I have heard that insurance doesn't cover it - but again I read where some do.. If I ever lost my band - I would get the sleeve - would go to mexico where Oregon is going (same doc - he comes highly recommended)

Long so glad to hear that your fill is just right and no more reflux - it's great to be at your sweet spot It took me sometime to throw out or give away my most fav fat clothes - in fact I just gave 2 shrits away a month ago - I was going to have them altered - but heck - I just gave them to my gf - shoes - ya got rid of a lot - if I haven't worn it in a year - it's out of my closet - I have some tops from last summer that I need to get rid of - as I have lost more weight since I got them and my arms are worse with just a few extra lbs gone - (they were shorter sleeve tops) but haven't done that yet.. I find that pants are easy for find - but tops here in the desert that are long sleeved - I have a $25 discount from Chico's I need to get somemore of those elbows lenght tshirts.. Today in the 80's - Sunday in the 90's - next week 98!!! The Coachella Fest is this weekend so the Lower end of the Coachella Valley (lndio/Coachella/LaQuinta) roads are going to be packed - Paul McCarthy is to perform tonite !!!

Karri I know you haven't been sleeping well - hope you got some good winks last night.. Steph Love the trophy wife comment - that should be motivation right there to get the good eating habits back !!! I would say that I tend to eat softer foods cuz they are easier and I don't get stuffed after 2 bites - I am still a volume eater with the band to a degree - I just watch my calories - but I want to be able to eat my whole dinner - it's very important to me.. Karla Try & Hope are 2 words that from now on are stricken from your vocabulary - in place of them you will use the word WILL... Legal Sweets - That fudgecicle you had - sf jello pudding cups (the dark choc is wonderful and so is the banana choc ones) - I don't eat jello or popsicle but again another option if you like them but again sf. fruit with lite whip cream and a little splenda Karri - what's that thing you do with the cream cheese and granoal & furit - !!! What in the heck kind of pt drinks are you drinking dear 400 calories Unjury protein powder had like 100 calories per scoop that gives you 20 grms pt -with the vanilla pt powder add 1 container of dannon lite fit yogurt in whatever flavor you want and fruit and ice in blender - total calories 200 - 250 depending on the fruit you add and how much. With the choc pt powder I added a 1/2 banana.. Also I like the jay robb egg white protein vanilla - with lite oj - it taste like an orange julius and has only 200 calories - 120 for the pt which has 24 grms and 80 for the juice You need to really get your pt in right now while you are healing.. check out bariatric advantage website - I think Steph has some too (websites) she has some kind of coffee drink that she loves ... Karla - it's worth repeating you gotta read labels before you eat - you gotta know how many calories are in the foods you eat - since I eat mostly sf and low fat - the only thing I counted was pt grams and calories and that's what I logged.. Ok I gotta get my butt in gear - will cbl

Charlene - Hopefully this will get you there - it's great to be there - I haven't had a fill since 1/08.. When I eat out I am very careful as to how fast I am eating - size of bites and chewing I have had to get up only a couple of time and go to the restroom while out I am so much more luckier than you all - when I pb - it come right up usually and it's a couple of throwups and then it's over - it has never lasted hours heck within 2 minutes its over and then I am wide open and can continue to eat within a 5 - 10 minutes.. Hugs Rose - Dinner - Well for me 90% of the time its the same thing and has been for the last 21 months - catfish (made diff ways) rice and veggies.. White turkey meatloaf is good - Italian season turkey for spaghitti (sp) - Phyl uses spagh sauce over french style green Beans - I have made maconni with it and a little spinach and riccotta cheese. Steak - usually only about once a month Ground turkey or beef - onion bell peppers jalapenos fried with a little evoo add some corn or zuchinne and tomatoe sauce and serve over a little rice or mashed tatoes or eat alone. Pork chop cut up in small bite size piecs fried in nonstick pan with a little evoo - onion bell pepper garlic (always use it in everything - i didn't mention it above) jalapeno - then slice up some cabbage add it with a little uncooked rice - soy sauce and a little Water - cover and cook til done. Or just turkey polish sauage - red potatoe - cabbage - with the bell pepper onion garlic .. I have bbq chicken or the rotissatir (sp) chicks from the store that are all ready cooked they are quite most - I make chick taco's for gs and I take that mixture add veggies and rice or tatos to make something for me. These are what I call my one pot wonder - 1 pot - throw in whatever you like - i am alway experimenting... Denise - Yep I will give a warning if the offense isn't too bad Yep girl it's all about our bite size how fast we tend to eat and the chewing - I am super careful of it when out - and even at home when I am extra hungry at dinner time - I really try and take tiny bite and eat slower even though I want to shovel it in. I look at alot of my friends and they inhale their food .. TGIF GANG!!! My plans for the weekend - I am having a Jewelry Party Sat night - so between tonite and tomorrow gotta get the house cleaned - you know how that is - the house is already clean but when you have pple coming over you gotta pay attention to the baseboards etc - my gs usualy picks up and does the vaccuming but he's not a deep cleaner Gym in the morning - Nails need a fill badly it's been 4 weeks !!! - gotta figure out what munchies I am going to serve and drinks - I have some coconut rum Ok I need to get some work done this morning - so will cbl gang :0)

Welcome Carrie - Prayers for a safe surgery and speedy recovery - like Apples said just check in here daily ask your questions - and we will answer... Go back to page one of this thread and read forward - alot of your questions will be answered and you will get to know a little about us here.. Rose - I don't eat cod so I don't know the texture - are you eating too fast - too big of a bite and not chewing .... I eat catfish most nights and even my butternut squash will stick if I eat too fast I really only fine that I get stuck if I eat too fast - too big of a bite and don't chew - or one bite too many - and maybe you are tighter at night than in the morning - you will find out that some days you will be tight and then the next loose Love that one Apples !!! not eatting all your calories :rolleyes2: Ok gang it's 8 - I have been on the computer since I got home tonite - no exercise - today and tomorrow are my days off (along with Sundays) and i need to go cook ... Talk to you all in the morning Hugs & Love - Sweet Dreams - Janet

Karla - where did you get the idea that chicken was a mushie chick salad?? or really chick Mushies - refried beans (protein) with a little cheese - instant mashed potato made with 100% skim milk no water to boost the protein - weight control oatmeal (low sugar) - Cream of wheat I made grits (yellow - really corn meal mush) and put spagh sauce on top with a little cheese. Oh ya I mixed zuchinne & yellow squash and cooked to death (but this is how I eat my veggies anyway) they are mushie add a I can't beleive it's butter spray. Ground turkey crumble it really good when frying it up in a non stick pan with a little evoo add spagh sauce and some riccottta cheese. Or just spagh sauce with some ricotta cheese in it (heated of course) Cottage cheese.. Mushies - food that you eat with a spoon - Baby food texture - pureed foods... Then you move to soft I think I may have had my catfish or you could get some dover sole and bake it with a little evoo - garlic salt and pepper - it's like mush that way.. I think pple do tuna salad - egg salad is another good one - just becarefull on the mayo - I use lite mayo & mustard.. Did you check out the food thread - I think they have ideas there - you are asking me to go back 21 months :rolleyes2: If I were you I would stick too liquids for the rest of the nite and maybe try some egg salad for bf in the morning - make it tonite and pack for work tomorrow - and then refried beans for lunch and dinner... Sounds like you have restriction !!!! Creamed soups are another option - Thick creamed soups are very good and satisfying - here the link for the mushie food thread - http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f82/mushies-stage-recipes-17637/ OMG Denise Girl - TONS AND TONS OF HUGS BEING SENT TO YOU - A DAY FROM HELL... I am glad you are going on your trip ... There's not much you can do here anyway... We will keep your Mom in our prayer and we want you to have a little fun - and your bro & sisters can step up to the plate for the weekend - and you DH looks like he's a sweet guy... Go have a couple cocktails and chill you need it - remember caregivers have to take care of themselves too !!!

That good to hear :rolleyes2: I think I scare alot of pple away sometime :crying: I don't know - I guess if you have gone over your calorie budget - or indulge in an unplanned treat you report it here and then depending on how bad it was - I will give you the ticket with how much extra exercise you have to do??? Or we can list what we ate for the day - but that's alot of work - what ever each person wants to do.. I don't know it really was a joke - but sounds good - I will ticket myself too - I always let everyone know when I have eaten too much or it was unplanned... And if nothing else I am an honest person - so you don't have to worry about me not being truthfull Oh ya our 2500 calorie a day girl - just to maintain cuz she has gotten one hell of a motabolizm now - I bet you never get a ticket
  21. IndioGirl55

    I'm here to help...

Denise - You said it all right there in orange !!!! That's the ticket !!! IMHO we can get to caught in the whole fill issue - we think we have to be super tight - but that's not what it's about - it's really about changing our eating habits and not relying on the band to do all the work for us.. ok gang - came up with this after posting on my Lucky #7 thread - we have pple who are struggling there too even 21 months out -but first you have to know I was given the title of food cop on my lucky #7 thread in the very beginning and as most of you know Phyl gave me the title of exercise cop here on this thread so this is what I came up with on a way to deal with having too many treats or not following our band rules.. Ok I am going to start giving tickets for offenses like eating unplanned treats or over doing a planned treat - or for making unhealthy food choices OMG - That a brilliant idea - OK gang - I am going to give ticket (myself included) and depending how bad the offense was - we are all going to have to start exercise more to pay for those tickets !!!! With every ticket you gotta exercise for an extra 20 minutes and just like a speeding the worse the offense the more you have to exercise :rolleyes2: So how many pple did I just scare off with that one :crying:

HERE IS LINK TO CANADA TRIP POLL http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f94/poll-lucky-7s-trip-canada-92359/ Candice Ok here's something to try - when you want to buy those candies - talk to yourself like you would if it were me wanting to buy and eat 3 candy bars - tell yourself all the reasons you shouldn't - but make it a conversation to your split personallity - give that person a name - and when she wants to take over - talk to her mean - tell her that you aren't going to let her keep on making you unhealthy... Gand quit thinking of this as a diet - focus on eating healthy - say to yourself - I am going to eat healthy all week long - I will say no to all the treats at work during the week - on Saturday - I will allow myself 1 treat (small like only one candy bar not 3) Promise me to give this a try for 1 solid week - ok - Promiss me... Karri - yes we were all a bit worried about you in the beginning about being anorix (sp) but that was really cuz you were exercising so much and eating very healthy but very low calorie.. I think that you have that part on an even keel now - will I guess not cuz you aren't eating healthy - but once you get back into the better food choices - I think you will be fine... I am with you on having a specific eating plan - I am 21 months tommorrow (4/17) I am still eating Catfish, Rice & Veggies for dinner most nights - I don't vary my eating that much - Remember you use to have a menu - you cooked and had food you could eat at your disposal all the time... That's what its going to take - being prepared at all times - cuz when you take me out of my comfort zone - and put me in a restaurant and I'm hungry - the Old Janet orders the food - but one thing I can count on - is that my band will stop be from eating the whole meal... I don't think the original 50 thread is still here - it maybe - but if you went back to that thread and re-read it - you will find a post by me when I first found lbt - it will say something like this "Im not so worried about getting the weight off (well I am shocked that I got 112 lbs off) it's where I will be in 5 yrs. I have lost weight before and after about 2 yrs it starts creeping back on - cuz you have a bit of this or a bit of that and before you know it you are eating 1/2 cake again - 5 tacos for dinner - etc - you all know the drill. We get relaxed in our eating - Well I am super aware of this and I try my very hardest not to let it happen - yes when I am away from home - I order busicuts & gravey for breakfast but heck eating like that every few months is ok with me cuz when I get home - I go back to eating my Fish.... I just don't allow myself to eat like that here in town.. Well one thing you have to look forward to is that when you come to visit we will be eating healthy- I have a plan that you are going to cook me one of your healthy meals and then I'm going to cook you mine - Do you like fish ????:crying: Today was nice - it's suppose to start warming up this weekend with maybe even 100 sometime next week... And the Coachella Fest is this weekend !!! Roads are going to be busy.. Yes I agree the new rule about periods & comma - it due to Texting !!! Well do you know that 281.144 people have veiwed our thread - I would say that we are quite popular and 13,493 replies :crying: Have fun and your concert aka jazz fest tonite... It will be a blast !! Karla - Ok since you were under your calories - but becareful -you are brand new and those little things aren't good habits to start now... You gotta reach for something else - I ususally drink my crangrape jucie at nite when my furr baby wakes me up to go out... I am a major nite time eater - so don't think it's easy for me but I know that I can't eat like I use to - those days are long gone 98% of the time... And you have been under so much stress with your dad and all so - you are just getting a warning and not a ticket I don't think you know this yet - but I'm the food cop - well Karri is too - We are the Lucky #7 police force and Also - Phyl gave me the title of Exercise cop too on my mentor thread... So You aren't going to get a ticket today - You have been given a freebie  With every ticket you gotta exercise for an extra 20 minutes and just like a speeding the worse the offense the more you have to exercise OMG - That a brilliant idea - OK gang - I am going to give ticket (myself included) and depending how bad the offense was - we are all going to have to start exercise more to pay for those tickets !!!! oh ya I can't spell half the time - so don't worry about that everyone is use to me - i miss spell drop word type hear when I mean here - We understand anyway - who reads word for word anyways :0)

And we all know I am in good shape for a 54 yr old GM... Also we need to know who's coming and when - I hope to Fly in on Thrusday 7/23 and Fly home on Monday 7/27 So I will be there for 3 days Friday Sat Sunday I guess it would really depend when everyone is comming and leaving Elvis would be fun for 1 day - I like him but I think one day would be enough Beach is always good.. Toronto sounds fun too - a little shopping :rolleyes2: I doubt I would sleep to noon - well that's not true cuz if we stay up late and drink - then I might sleep till noon... I am agreeable to whatever the group wants .. #1 Who's comming and what days will be you arriving and leaving - who's flying in and and what time (I gotta still make my reservations was going to do it tuesday when rates are suppose to be the very best - but got busy and forgot so will do it this tuesday for sure) But my times I don't think will change Arrive on 7/23 at 3:45 in the afternoon Leave Monday 8 a.m. something.. I'm here to help...

Laura I am glad everything went well - and you may feel some restriction - it took about 2 weeks for my second fill to really settle in - the 1st one I felt right away but it was gone within 2 weeks I agree with you on the tracking and counting calories and protein - for us fat chicks its really a great learning tool - I did it for the 1st year. I think he suggest this so that you don't consider it dieting - but I didn't consider weighing - tracking and measuring as a diet - but a way to learn what a serving size was and how many caloires are in the foods that I eat. As to your weight loss - who knows how it's going to go - I only had 1 week with no loss - I lost anywhere from .5 to 3 lbs - it varied each week - as long as you eat healthy and exercise the weight will come off - for some of us it comes off fast - for others it comes off slow and all those 1/2 lbs adds up - And alot of ppl may lose 3 lbs in one week and nothing for a week or so after that big lost - but again average it out and it will help.. I'm at my sweet spot - but being there doesn't stop me from wanting or eating unhealthy stuff - cuz as you will learn you can eat around your band - candy for example slips right on thru - even at my sweet spot if I wanted to I could eat 2 bags of candy ... So we can't rely on our bands 100% - as you will learn - most of the work will be up to you - but once you do get to your sweet spot - it will help alot. Congrats on your pants !!! I know how good it feels - and just know it keeps on getting better - that was the 1st of many NSV'S (non scale victories) that you are going to experience on this journey... Hugs - Janet
