I got rid of a bunch of clothes in the good will but I soon realized I couldn't continue to do this. So I bought a sewing machine on craiglist for $20. Little by little, I am altering everything. No wonder rich people like custom made clothes, they fit perfect. Thanks Mom for teaching me to sew. Even doing the hubby's things.

It's nice to work without the fatigue. I didn't mind shoveling snow like the past 20 years. Exercise builds functional strength. And let's be accurate, you out worked the young bucks. Congrats. -
I am 4 months out and am in the longest stall so far. I am down 61 total and am so happy. My goal is 150 but I am stuck at 165. Doing all the right things so trying not to get crazed about it. I guess if I don't lose more it would be ok since I feel like a new person but really want to get to goal. I guess we all get stalls but even a pound or two would be nice to keep the enthusiasm up.

I am Jeanne, an RN for 18 years. Currently working in Amb surgery for Urology doing lithotripsy and prostate procedures. Had my sleeve in Dec 2012 at age 49. This was the best thing I have done for my health. Just turned 50 but I feel like I am 30. Exercise is now my new addiction. Down 58 lbs, and am a happy camper. I never have been able to lose weight like this before. No doubt you must be determined and follow the plan but it has been amazing for me. -
Extremely out of shape - Could use some help.

My insurance required a 6 month supervised diet prior to surgery so I started a walking program from the very beginning. Only really missed a couple of days with the walking even with the surgery. Surgery was Dec. 19th. In Jan I bought an Nordic track incline trainer and that's when it really started for me. I try to do cardio everyday. The nice thing with the incline trainer is the preprogrammed workouts really mix it up. And the steep inclines are only for a minute or 2 the it changes. So I challenge myself to get thru it. I lift weights 3 days a week because I think that will really help make my body the best it can be. And Mark gave you good advise with the compound exercise that work multiple muscles in one exercise. Start slow and just gradually add intensity and weight. -

Like you, I weigh myself every day which is a mistake. I can't stay off that stupid thing. If you weigh daily you must be prepared for ups and downs. I find that I have a range of about 3 lbs and as much as 5 lbs when I have my period. When I am a little up, I remind myself of my starting weight and commit anew to following the guidelines. When I am down, I Celebrate and commit anew to following the guidelines. That's because they work. Stalls will happen- work your sleeve and be proud cause it takes guts to change your life. -

For the first couple weeks, I wondered if I was nuts for doing this to myself. But now my clothes are hanging on me. I have never had much success keeping weight off. I feel this is chance for a new life. Are you getting any exercise? I am briskly walking 2-3 miles a day. I feel this is critical in my case to having energy. I hope you have a change of heart. Twenty lbs is a great start. Check out "the World according to Eggface". She has many Bariatric recipes that will give you ideas on meals that might encourage you to eat. Good luck. -

They can do a thallium stress test. -
I personally think cuisiart makes a better product. I don't have the griddler but I have a coffee maker that I really love. I do have a George Foreman but I rarely use it cause I love my cast iron pans.

So after a six month period of dietary counseling, research, and preop testing, my husband and I both got sleeved on 12/19. Like most people, we had second thoughts right before and right after the surgery, but we both are now delighted by our results. We are working the program and he has lost 45 and I am at 38 lbs since our first visit in May 2012. There is still work to be done but I feel like a new person. I wish to extend my thanks to all on the forum. Many of my questions were answered and there are so many stories of successes that have lent encouragement. Happy and healthy 2013 to all my fellow sleevers!

Hi everyone, I want to ask about post op GERD. I had some problem with this prior to surgery, but if I avoided trigger foods, I would be fine. About 2 weeks after surgery, I started getting really bad reflux on the full liquid diet. I am now on puréed foods and it persists despite the fact I am perfect in taking my Pepcid twice a day. Treating this with Tums but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it will improve with time. I will discuss it with the doc when I see him in a week, just wanted input. My thanks to all. This site has been wonderful.

I have failed the sleeve

Hi Artsong, I would like to congratulate you on your loss of 31 lbs. I can understand your frustration but the truth is you have lost a significant amount of weight. It is clear you are doing all you are supposed to be doing, so something needs to be tweaked. I am a RN, but not a dietician, exercise expert or even a "veteran" so maybe I am out of line offering advise but you can decide for yourself if you want to take it. If I were in your shoes, I would try to shake up your body by alternating calories on a day to basis. Maybe do a light caloric day then a higher calorie day. It seems like you could reduce your weekly caloric intake. I would also try to split your exercise. If it is possible, I would try to do about 10 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise before you go to work. This increases the metabolism throughout the day. Then your regular workout at night. I am only sleeved a couple weeks and my weight loss has been slow and steady but the above will be my plan of attack when I hit a stall. Best of luck to you. Keep your chin up. -
Your health is your personal business. You can say you are taking an extended vacation. Or you can say that you are having some minor surgery to correct a health problem. What I told people depended on the closeness of the relationship.

I felt the same way. I did lose a fair number of lbs preop, so I was thinking maybe I shouldn't do it. And for the first couple of days after the surgery I felt a lot of regret. My life so revolved around food but now I am a week out and I have lost 14 lbs. I haven't felt this good in years and I am only at the beginning. If you are doing it for better health, you could not be making a better decision. I also am an RN and I also got a lot of mixed reviews from others in healthcare. After some people tried to discourage me, I stopped telling people. I am almost 50, and I want quality years to come. And don't kid yourself, there is still a lot of work ahead of you. The sleeve is a tool. You still have to eat right and exercise. I wish you a smooth recovery.

December 19th sleevers?

I was sleeved on the 19th. Only one night in hospital. According to my doc's protocol, I started full liquids today. Have been able to keep down protein shakes so I feel much better. Felt so weak before the shakes. Have some pain under my breastbone that goes away after a minute or two. Weird thing is that I can't tolerate water. Vomited it right up. Drinking decaf sugar free tea. Overall I feel good. Gonna start walking again tomorrow.
