    December 27th roll call

I cancelled my Dec 27 surgery - freak snowstorm (Arkansas). Can't get to hospital at 5:30 a.m. and am concerned about hospital staff deficiencies. Guess I'll have to choose another date. Good luck to all Dec 27 folks!

    Sick of sweets! Ugh :-/

Unjury make unflavored and chicken soup protein powder. I've tried both and like them.

    Food scale or measuring cup

You are not a pain. I'm trying to come up with a good answer. I think you could try to eat the 3 oz of meat and see if you are full or not. I know you don't want to overdo it. How long post op are you?

    UnJury question

I bot a digital candy thermometer (less than $10) and put a cup of water in my microwave at various times until I got exactly 140 degrees - 1 minute 15 seconds on high in mine. It prolly needs a little pepper or Mrs Dash to give it a little more zing. I also mixed in a large bowl using a hand whisk. Poured in cup to drink it.

    Food scale or measuring cup

Weight - I only use scales unless I'm measuring liquid. I finally learned to use them correctly by putting a plate on the scale, let it reset to zero and then add the food! I feel smarter every day.

    Food scale or measuring cup

Can't accurately measure dry stuff in a measuring cup. Gotta have the food scale for that. I learned that in cooking school last year! TW I'm 58 and didn't know it!!

    Gastric Sleeve

No all day appointments here. All of my testing is at various times and dates. Have done psychiatric eval, NUT, sleep study tomorrow, pulmonary testing Tuesday, and labs whenever I go (as long as it's before surgery), 2nd surgeon appt Dec 20. I suppose I'll meet the anesthesiologist right before but that's OK cause this is a small town and the surgeon has done several procedures on me in the last several years. He'll have access to all of my medical records and works closely with my surgeon. I'm in good hands and you will be too.

    Paying Out of Pocket

My cost is estimated to be $15,000. The surgeon (for the next 2 years follow-up), all labs, NUT available forever if needed, local support group (again forever if needed), hospital stay (1 night), psychological testing, etc. I found out my insurance will cover sleep study, stress test and pulmonary testing so that should save me a few thousand off the cost. The above is all inclusive. Everything is local and the surgeon has been working in bariatrics since he was starting medical school. I'm in Arkansas.

    Baratric Cream soup

Thanks for the info. My husband makes lots of soups and I plan to add Unjury unflavored to them (after they cool to 140 degrees). Got some killer cabbage and onion beef broth in the freezer right now!
