baby bullet or something like it?
SerendipityHappens replied to Museum-Mama's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You can get the nutribullet (like magic bullet but more powerful) from Bed bath and beyond for 99 bucks... but if you register your email, they'll give you a 20% off coupon so it will only be 80.00 I wouldn't buy one just to get through purees since it's such a short phase and you CAN do it all in your blender.. But I use mine every day to make smoothies, healthy salad dressings, chop garlic etc. It's a great machine to have if you think you'll use it... but not worth the money if you're only going to use it for you puree phase. -

Dream eating!
SerendipityHappens replied to Colemon70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Preop I was having dreams that I was eating too early post op... I even dreamed once that I was in the hospital and I pulled fried chicken out of my pillow case and started eating it. It was more like a nightmare because then the dr came in to give me a leak test and I was trying to stall him so he wouldn't see all that fried chicken in my belly... Sounds so silly but it was actually quite a distressing dream! -

Gallbladder attacks
SerendipityHappens replied to SleeveNZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like the LATER stages of a galbladder gone bad to me... Usually it is not such a localized pain until it's getting more advanced. Please go soon. I was stupid and allowed mine to get so bad that it turned gangrene, ruptured, the infection went septic and I almost died. -
Rash is spreading on my chest and shoulder..Im not allergic to anything ..
SerendipityHappens replied to dat_sweetmami's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The antibiotics they give you post surgery can be very strong. A rash is not an uncommon reaction to certain antibiotics.. even if you've never had one before.. you need to contact your doctor.. could be nothing.. or could be a precursor to a more dangerous reaction. -

"Rash is spreading on my chest and shoulder..Im not allergic to anything .." Sounds like maybe you ARE allergic to something? -
I watched a Diners, drive thrus and dives marathon right after my surgery. Can you say "food porn"? I also was staying at my sisters house for my second week post op and jumped at the chance at cooking all the meals. I actually found that watching shows about food and cooking fills a void and it's comforting to know that I don't have to eat ALL the food in order to still enjoy food... I enjoyed cooking very much even though I didn't get so much as a taste! I'm a foodie and this surgery hasn't changed that. I still love to cook and I love everything about food... I'm just going to be eating less of it in the future and actually looking forward to when my desire for quantity won't overshadow my focus on QUALITY!

march sleevers the good and the bad
SerendipityHappens replied to thriving1726's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GREAT, I'm so happy to hear that you're having a gentle recovery too. Doctor said nothing more than walking for the first six weeks.. Right now I'm just walking a mile a day.. but since I'm also on my feet all day at work, it feels like enough... I'll add more in the coming weeks. Yeah, I did drink a lot in the hospital.. My IV wasn't working the day after surgery and they tried all the normal locations.. I was getting quite dehydrated and so the doctor said I could try to get my fluids orally and to drink almost constantly and to only slow down if I had pain. -
looks absolutely delicious! I had scrambled egg with pureed curried lentils.. not nearly as appetizing as your meal!
-
My diet says week 5 or 6 for nuts and week 7 for seeds... Of course this is the earliest they want me to TRY these foods.. if they are well tolerated, then I can add them.. if not, they said to hold off and try again later.. same goes for breads.. I can try in week 5 but the instructions say if they're not well tolerated to wait a few more weeks and try again.

Cramps/Spasms in Stomach
SerendipityHappens replied to msnolan71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not gas... gas is an entirely DIFFERENT pain. My doctor said yes, spasms are quite normal for the first week or so. I would actually get them more frequently when I waked and especially when I'd drink something cold.. Of course I had to walk anyway, but the spasms would stop me dead in my tracks the first few days but they grew less intense and less frequent as time went by. Good luck! -
Gallbladder recovery
SerendipityHappens replied to bubles089's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the hospital for nearly a week with mine. my doctor was able to do it laproscopically (5 incisions) even though my gallbladder was ruptured and infection was septic. He spent a long time in there scraping infection from my other organs etc.. I couldn't even get up and walk for the first two days and yes, Definitely felt like I got runover by a truck,. my first walk I thought all my organs were going to fall out of my abdomen. I had a morphine drip in the hospital. After I was discharged from the hospital I was another week on the couch at home. After the second week I was feeling much better.. but the first two weeks were horrible. I swore I'd never ever ever have another surgery again! My VSG surger felt like a weekend at the spa compared to what I went through with my gallbladder! Hopefully you will find your recovery easier.. My doc said mine was the worst he had ever seen and he said I was very close to death due to the extent of the gangrene. -
Help...3 weeks out...what portions should I be eating?
SerendipityHappens replied to Tasteofheaven's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm on purees My diet says up to 1/2 cup of food... one of the suggestions on my menu states one scrambled egg and 1/4 cup of puree. It then warns that you may only be able to eat a small portion of this, but the 1/2 cup is the maximum you should measure for yourself at mealtimes... I usually do almost the entire half cup with maybe a teaspoon left over. It's hard not to eat that last teaspoon since I'm not "full" but I stop when I feel satisfied. I know I'm eating a lot more than most at this point. At week three it says to consume 1 to 6 ounces of food per meal and stop at the first sign of satisfaction but don't eat until fullness. I guess it makes sense since bodies are so different. I have had hardly any inflammation of my sleeve so I know I have a lot more room early on than most people, but it still makes me worry.. like what if it's NOT just lack of inflammation? The doctor did mention that I have a slightly longer than average stomach but that I shouldn't be concerned about restriction. Anyway, as for the tiny bites, that is REALLY hard for me too. I have been using a baby spoon and setting a timer. Some people use an app on their phones to tell them when to take a bite but the timer has been working for me. What's been the hardest is I'm on purees.. it's really hard to chew something that's already puree! -
the for the liver shrink "light dinner" according to my doc should be lean and green.. like literally a hunk of fish or chicken and a salad of the darkest leafy greens you can find- or a scoop of steamed leafy greens. No root vegetables, no starches.
-
I opted to just take some cottage cheese drain a bit of the whey from it, sprinkle some pepper on it then put a few tablespoons of marinara and a teaspoon of Parmesan and microwave it. Tastes great. I'm sure the ricotta bake is better.. but I'm happy with my simplified version.

Any suggestions....

I had spasms/contractions for the first week. Pretty bad the first few days and then they became less severe as the days passed. Warm herbal tea and warm broths helped a lot. Cold liquid would exacerbate the condition for me. -

Post-op diet progressions
SerendipityHappens replied to OKSleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First week.. clears.. not even Protein shakes 2nd week, milks and protein shakes 3rd week, purees but not pureed meats plus soft cooked eggs and cottage cheese 4th week soft foods.. includes fish, deli shaved meats, Beans, soft cooked vegetables, soft fruits (no berries) toast, cheese) 5th week .. Ground meats, ham, salad greens cold cereals 6th week.. poultry, nuts, fruits except citrus, raw veggies, breads, rice and Pasta 7th week... Citrus fruits, seeds, berries, Protein Bars, all other meats I was instructed to try to get as much protein from foods as possible but it's ok to supplement with protein shakes as needed especially at the beginning. Was also advised not to puree foods once I'm in the soft foods phase since my stomach needs to mature properly and not get "lazy" -
what to tell, who to tell, when to tell...
SerendipityHappens replied to makemyownluck's topic in Rants & Raves
I have told my boyfriend, my three sisters and one friend who lives out of state and doesn't know anyone else that I know. On surgery day I was down 70 pounds from my highest weight so people are used to me losing weight, and also eating weird foods. I've been doing Protein shakes twice a day for the past three months anyway! I went on "vacation" and came back to work today.. I spent two weeks post op visiting with my sisters, so I just tell everyone that my vacation with family was great.. Everyone tells me I look so well rested! I have no plans to keep my VSG a secret, I just don't want people having expectations. This summer I'll be going back home for a wedding and will see my entire extended family. By then my weight loss will be obvious and I will happily let everyone know about my surgery then.
