who is a great doctor in Mexico
SerendipityHappens replied to Malaika13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved by Louisana Valenzuela with Dr Cabrera assisting. Both received extrnsive bariatric training under Dr. Corvala. I had an excellent experience. (Coordianted through MBC and had surgery at midoctor.) I can't say that I'd recommend my doctor OVER any other doctor because honestly, I've heard so many positive experiences about Corvala, F. Lopez, Aceves, and Garcia. Also a lot of people like Dr Alvarez in Piedras Negras. I think it's just a matter of finding a Doctor and coordinator that you're comfortable with while finding the location and price that's right for you. -
I sauteed some onions and garlic with zucchini, then I added some stewed tomatoes and italian seasoning. I cooked it all together for a while then added bunches and bunches of fresh baby spinach and wilted it down. This keeps in the fridge for about a week. When I'm hungry I get 3/4 of a cup of this and crumble an ounce of feta and half an ounce of asiago cheese and then microwave it. ZOMG!!!!!

weight loss and exercise, not necessarily a partnership?
SerendipityHappens replied to Globetrotter's topic in The Lounge
Would you agree that a box of rocks weighs more than a box of feathers? It's the same idea. If you'll notice, nobody says, "a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat" When people say "muscle weighs more than fat" they mean by volume. -
weight loss and exercise, not necessarily a partnership?
SerendipityHappens replied to Globetrotter's topic in The Lounge
IMHO, weight loss is primarily related to what you eat. For me, I stopped exercising for weight loss YEARS ago. I DO exercise, but I do it for FUN, personal growth, and for HEALTH...and to make my butt look better....I don't feel exercise is necessary for weight loss but I do feel it is necessary for optimal health and well being. -
Harrisburg PA sleevers
SerendipityHappens replied to BettyLou2013's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I am in Harrisburg and have been enjoying time biking/walking on the greenbelt. I do a monthly membership at the Y but only in winter and the hottest part of summer so right now no membership because spring and fall I'm all about exercise outside. I'm also just getting back into Contra Dancing which is held bi-weekly in Harrisburg... I'm up for whatever. I live in midtown. PM me if you want to meetup! -
Coloring My Hair Post Surgery
SerendipityHappens replied to buckeyefan1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes if you damage your hair a bit by coloring it, it can look a bit thicker. (just don't damage it to the point of breakage!) When my hypothyroidism was in full swing, I had horrible hairloss.. even WORSE than my post surgery hairloss and to make matters worse, I have baby fine, limp, oily hair. Having it colored roughed up my hair just enough to help add some fullness and make it appear that I had more than I actually did. Hairloss post surgery in most cases has NOTHING to do with your diet or supplements.. I'm just like you, I am compliant with my Vitamins, I ALWAYS get my Protein and I also take a fish oil supplement but at about four months out my hairloss started and is now tapering off....If it's gonna come out, it's GONNA COME OUT no matter if you wash your hair, brush your hair or color your hair... it's just gonna happen, so why not do the best you can with what you have left and try to make it look as great as possible? -
How long do fluids stay in your stomach?
SerendipityHappens replied to 2ndChanceHeth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When you're newly sleeved inflammation can keep liquids in for longer because it takes longer for the liquids to flow through a tight space.. For me at 7 months out, I can drink 16 ounces of water and be ready to eat in 10 minutes. -
I gained weight after surgery?
SerendipityHappens replied to AdrianaNaji's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My surgery weight was 290.. It took me a week to get back down to 290. Then I saw a huge drop down to 276... Then I stalled for a month. -
15 exhausting miles today on my bike. 48 miles total for the month. Goal of 300 miles biked in October.

Love to see all these miles (and porch swinging... and hot suit walking) adding up! I didn't rack up anything today.. LOTS of rain and wind. I'm falling behind!!! Going to add a short AM ride tomorrow to try to start catching up. Going to shoot for 15 miles tomorrow!

When I'm deep in ketosis lots of things taste like baking soda. -
Can you still eat in restaurants?
SerendipityHappens replied to 2ndChanceHeth's topic in Food and Nutrition
I can eat at any restaurant I want. I went to a Lebanese place the other night. I got the appetizer of falafel and ordered some tahini and thume for dipping. $3.95 When I go to my favorite vietnamese place I still get the ginger chicken with rice noodles but I ask for my to go box at the beginning and I put most of it away in my to go box. I then get FOUR more meals out of my left overs! And since it's my FAVORITE dish, I don't mind eating it four more times! The other day I stopped at Burger king. Their fish sandwiches are 2/$5.00 I ordered two without the bun and they put them in a salad bowl for me with lettuce with the pickle and I had tarter sauce on the side. I took off all the breading, which left me with a REALLY SMALL portion of fish.. I'm glad I had TWO! I crumbled the fish on the lettuce and pickle and put some tarter sauce on it and had a fish salad! -
Suspicions....
SerendipityHappens replied to Lady Denham's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I was discharged with everything I needed. They included a description of what was done to me, my blood work, EKG results, a video of my leak test, list of medications given and discharge and diet instruction.. This was all included in my $4,500 surgery cost. What more "records" does one need? I received follow up care from my GP. Couldn't be easier. -
Drinking with meals
SerendipityHappens replied to Dollydimples's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink a LOT before eating.. The few times I've eaten without drinking prior, I was miserable and counting the minutes until I could drink... but when I drink a bottle of water 15 minutes before my meal, I'm good for over an hour after. -
Please give it to me straight...with no chaser...
SerendipityHappens replied to A_ReNUDE_me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Almost 7 months out. 1. worst week...Breaking up with my boyfriend week. Not sleeve related. It just wasn't working. There was no sleeve related worst week for me.. The surgery itself was a cake walk. 2. I knew that the surgery wouldn't help with emotional or boredom eating..... and yes it continues to be a struggle.. MORE than I thought it might. 3. I had read soooo much pre-sleeve that I arrived with a laundry list of questions all of which were answered to my satisfaction prior to getting sleeved! -
oooooh, I'm late to the party but I'm in! I just got a new bike so I'll be logging my biking miles with an aggressive goal for me of 300 miles for the month. I started on the 3rd so far I'm up to 34 miles so I've got some catching up to do if I'm going to make it to 300!

Nsv: here's hoping my clothes are too tight!
SerendipityHappens replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pixie... Buy from the thrift store.. Seal the clothes in a plastic bag.. Drive straight to the laundromat, Launder the clothes and dry on high (don't worry about the jeans shrinking cuz you're getting skinny anyway!!!) put clothes into a new plastic bag.. Go home.. Enjoy your new clothes that don't have to be pulled up every five seconds! -

What's a singlet? I've only ever heard the uniforms that wrestlers wear referred to as a singlet,,,, but I'm assuming you're not taking up the sport. -

I still have to spray trashed food with windex when I'm in a "weak moment". -
Nsv: here's hoping my clothes are too tight!
SerendipityHappens replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I LOVE your NSV.. I relate. I love to shop at the second hand stores and find too small clothes to shrink into. I NEVER would have dared do that in the past because deep down I knew I would fail :-( My NSV that made me happy that USED to make me sad was walking my bike up a hill today. Last time I had a bike many years ago, I felt so defeated every time I had to walk it up a hill, but now it doesn't bother me at all, I just make a mental note of the point where I had to get off and try to get a little further next time. I'm happy even though I can't climb many hills on my bike.... that there isn't a hill out there I can't WALK up! -

SerendipityHappens replied to mims's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
At MiDoctor they gave me water and cold greentea after I passed my leak test. I was sleeved by Cabrera/valenzuela and was told to be on clear liquids for the first full week and not even worry about protein until the second week when I started drinking protein shakes. -
If you're talking about Quest bars.. most of them have 17-20 grams of FIBER. Most of us don't count fiber in our carb counts. Quest bars are one of the least carby bars out there.

WLS Cover-up Story
SerendipityHappens replied to Andrew0929's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Only say you're getting your gallbladder removed if you actually ARE.. otherwise, if you ever have to get it removed for real, then that's another cover story you'll have to invent... If you really feel you need a cover story, you could say you're having a hiatal hernia repair...And it's something in the digestive system, so it would require the liquid diet and all that. Personally, I just didn't say ANYTHING. That left my options open so that when I was ready to, I could tell people. I waited until I had lost 100 pounds and then just casually told people about it... kind of like in an "I can't believe you didn't know" kind of way.
