    protein bars

I just tried the Quest and OMG.. DELISH.. And not full of junk either.. they are REAL protein bars with 20 grams of high quality protein and around 18 grams of fiber depending on flavor... and let's face it, fiber is awesome, I mean really, who doesn't like to poop? most flavors have between 160 and 200 calories and around 4 to 6 net carbs. I bought the 12 flavor sampler pack directly from Quest and can't wait to try ALL the flavors. I've been having a hard time eating enough protein lately due to the fact that I'm just not hungry in this hot weather.. but the quest bar went down nicely as my lunch today.

My Pannus and Me: How can I tame that beast while running?

I'll be going out of the country for sure. likely Mexico.. possibly India. I will DEFINITELY book an extra week or two wherever I decide to go though. Both for my comfort and to be near the doctors who treated me in case complications arise.

    Pre Pre-op diet :)

I did a pre-preop diet for three months prior to starting the actual preop.. I am so happy I did.. Not only did I lose a lot of weight, I really got a handle on my emotional eating during that time and it gave me a great deal of confidence that I could be successful with the surgery. My pre-pre op diet was 800ish calories a day. 2-3 low carb high Protein shakes, one lean and green meal, and optional Snacks of half a piece of fruit, an egg, an ounce of nuts. I chose to drink juiced kale and ginger on most days in order to gain the anti-inflamatory benefits of these foods. Getting off the grains and sugars completely prior to surgery was AWESOME.

    discouraged and depressed

A pound a day is a 3500 calorie per day deficit.. it is not reasonable to have that huge of a deficit every day even with the surgery. Also, your body will plateau for a while.. My weight loss stalled for an entire month right after surgery. I wasn't doing anything wrong, that's just the way it goes. I am happy to lose 10 pounds a month.. A 15 pound loss in a month is absolutely THRILLING. I think you need to adjust your expectations a bit. You'll lose the weight, it just may not come off at a rate of 30 pounds a month.

    Sex?!

My doctor told me whenever I wanted was fine.. just remember not to lift anything more than five pounds... Not sure what he thought I'd be lifting during sex that would weigh more than five pounds... but I was too chicken to ask him what he meant by that.

My Pannus and Me: How can I tame that beast while running?

I'm saving already.. Getting my belly/breasts/arms done.. then going back for lower body.,. I was once 360... and even at my heaviest my skin was saggy with no tumescence at all so I KNOW for sure NOTHING will bounce back.. I'll likely need the lifestyle face lift for my neck at some point too

My Pannus and Me: How can I tame that beast while running?

I'm having the same problem.. My pannus is swinging like a pendulum when I run! I'm still in plus size and plus size compression pants are hard to find.. (you mean fat people don't like wearing super tight pants? go figure) Anyway, Looks like Old Navy has some compression plus size compression pants that you can order online but they don't carry in their stores. I'm going to try out a pair

    Calcium Citrate

I don't have to take them at a different time than my multi because I bought a multi without Iron. My multi has 200 mg of calcium I also take three two tablet doses of the calcium citrate. My multivitamin is in a six pill dose and I separate it out throughout the day.. so with each of my three meals, I take 2 multi and 2calcium. Then right before bed at night I take my iron pill. It's easy to remember to take them.. just put them all together in a box... and take them until they are gone.. even if I see I miss a dose, I just take it later.. it's not like taking medication where they have to be spaced perfectly
  11. I started my shake+1 lean and green meal plan on December 1st in preparation of my march 13th surgery date. It was AWESOME. I lost 45 pounds preop and I know that the diet and weight loss helped me have an easier recovery. Also sticking to the diet preop really helped me be prepared for my new VSG style of eating. You can do it.

    New Member Looking for help

The absolute best resource I've found is the FREE MU guide http://www.muhealth....Booklet VSG.pdf I read it many many times before and after my surgery. It may not follow your doctor's recommendations exactly, but it will give you a very good idea of what eating will be like after surgery. All doctors give different advice so there's no one "bible" of what you must or must not do.. some docs say no soda ever, other's say diet soda is fine, some say no NSAIDs ever, others say taking them with food is fine.. some say chewable Vitamins only, other's say pills are fine.. some make you be on liquids for weeks after surgeries and others have patients eating soft foods within days... And of course hang out here and learn from those who have had the surgery.. I started coming to this forum four months prior to my surgery and learned soooo much just from the members here during that time.
  13. EXACTLY... I will NEVER agree with those who insist that WLS is the EASY way. None of this is EASY.... but it DEFINITELY makes things LESS HARD! And LESS HARD is good... Why would I want to keep doing things the MORE HARD way when there is a LESS HARD way?

    Coffee & Weight Gain Study

Assistant professor Vance Matthews says that three to four cups a day does still decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease and type-2 diabetes, but more than five or six cups a day could reverse the process." The problem is EXCESSIVE coffee consumption. Many things are healthy in small quantities and unhealthy in large quantities. MOST people aren't drinking more than six cups of coffee a day.

Atkins South Beach The 17 day diet Honestly of all these diets, the only ones that I felt at all OK on were Atkins and South Beach.. I'm currently doing LCHF and the very low carb approach seems to work best for my body.

    spices

The sleeve is a strange strange thing... I'm now suddenly opposite.. I'm putting Louisiana hot sauce on EVERYTHING. Even when I was newly sleeved I started putting hot sauce in my chicken soup.. I never wanted it before but the hot sauce just seems to feel so good in my belly. WEIRD.

    Honestly..

My doctor had me focus on breathing in a really deeep breath and then he pulled it out as I exhaled hard.. I didn't feel a thing. As for the leak test.. tasted less gross than pepto.

Do we ever get used to eatting so little?

I'm pretty used to my portion sizes of 4-6 ounces at a meal at two and a half months out. Sure there are times I wish I could eat a bit more of something really tasty.. but it's not overwhelming and I just tell myself I can have it again at my next meal! BTW, I do have a longer than average sleeve so I can eat a few more bites than many sleevers... maybe that's why I don't really struggle with portion size? I think things would be different if I was only eating a few spoons of something... but being able to eat a little more than a half a cup is mentally quite satisfying to me.
  23. It's the Pacific Natural foods brand.. They might have more kinds, but the last time I was in WF, they had the pacific natural chicken broth and it is Kosher. As far as where specifically to get broth, I have NO idea.. I just figured dearborn has tons of halal options!

    Too full! NEED ADVICE!

I TRY to focus on chewing my food well.. then I play on the the internet for a minute.. take another bite..chew.. internet... wash, rinse, repeat. I am a SUPER fast eater.. I NEVER even chewed my food previously.. even meats would receive maybe two or three chomps and get swallowed. It's been the hardest thing to get used to!
  25. Wholefoods has an organic chicken broth that's kosher too.
