Tijuana safety Qs for people who have BTDT ...
SerendipityHappens replied to chickadee73's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I felt perfectly safe at all times. I was at MiDoctor/Marriott. I walked around outside in the area near the hotel with another sleever and felt perfectly safe. Stick to the tourist/shopping areas. Drivers will take you to the safe places. No problems bringing meds back.. doctor will give you a script for everything you need. Our driver warned us not to bring back any tequila because that can hold things up. Small souvenirs were no problem though. -
Dr. Valenzuela on June 20

Enjoy the remainder of your preop. I was sleeved by Dr. Lousiana Valenzuela. She is AWESOME. -
Did your surgeon add stitches after he put the staples?
SerendipityHappens replied to WeeWers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doctor does an oversew of the staple line but there are many quality surgeons who do not. My doctor believes it helps prevent leaks.. Other doctors choose not to do the oversew because they believe that adding the sutures may actually cause leaks. It's not that they are lazy, they simply believe it's better not to do it...Basically two opposing view points with very capable surgeons on each side. The same goes for Drains.. different surgeons feel differently about them. Personally I wanted a surgeon who did the oversew AND used a drain, but others choose differently. -
Continuing to lose weight while pregnant
SerendipityHappens replied to jacquelynn.mclean's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
My gyn is also an ob.. and he was telling me about a patient he treated who lost over a hundred pounds during her pregnancy. He said he believed that she and her baby were healthier for it and he believes it's perfectly safe for very obese women to lose weight during pregnancy as long as they are getting adequate nutrition. MU (Missouri University?) did a study about weight loss during pregnancy and the findings were very favorable toward weight loss. -

SerendipityHappens replied to SerendipityHappens's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well then according to this, I should have lost 56 pounds by june 1st... I lost 38... Slow loser it is! I figured I would be.. after all that's why I chose to have the surgery in the first place! -
for those of us who've never been not fat..
SerendipityHappens replied to avanti's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When my sister was fat she looked like the before picture at her weight of 220 pounds.. She looked AWESOME. She had a flat tummy, cute belly button, full legs with perfect non-cellulite contours, a bootylicious behind and tiny waist.. She could have been a plus size model... Now that she's 155 she STILL LOOKS AWESOME... Me,. I've had cottage cheese thighs and a low hanging pannus since I was 11..... I have NEVER EVER seen my belly button... I'd KILL to look like the before picture! -
Excuse me, I seem to have misplaced 100 pounds...
SerendipityHappens posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's right! I met the 100 pound mark AND I'm only four pounds to my mid point. I was so excited about this that I went to the NewBalance store to treat myself to a new pair of walking shoes... and I allowed the awesome cute young sales rep encourage this 260 pound, 41 year old woman into a pair of RUNNING shoes and he pointed me in the right direction to study up on proper form to avoid injury (www.goodformrunning.com)... I downloaded the couch 2 5K app and tried day one today.... LOL, I only made it 1/3 of the way through... which represents a grand total of just three minutes running but it felt GREAT (once I could breathe again)... I'll keep trying it three or four days a week until I can complete the entire session, then move on to the next level. My goal is to run albeit very, very slowly, the Halloween 5K fun run this year. What a difference a hundred pounds makes! -
Help me convince people Mexico is safe
SerendipityHappens replied to mlecompte's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
You can also go to youtube and find video testimonials that will often even show you a tour through the hospital. Also once you choose your doctor, you can find others who used him/her and contact them directly. I've spoken with prospective patients over the phone before about my experience.. I talked to one girl's mom even in order to help alleviate concerns she had. -
I kept cottage cheese and parmesan cheese at work and would bring tomato sauce in a little babyfood jar.. Dump all together and microwave for a savory meal/snack. Hummus was delicious to eat with just a spoon. I'd also bring a small container of curried lentils and melt half a piece of cheese on it in the microwave. Now that I'm eating all foods, I keep Quest Protein bars at work. They're delicious and have 17 grams of glorious Fiber and 20 grams of protein for 160-200 calories depending on flavor.. For a meal I'll eat a whole one.. for a snack I'll eat half. Another favorite snack is just a piece of deli meat wrapped around a slice of avocado. I think I started deli meats in week 3 or 4 and it went down really easy.

I'm stuck with my band until it erodes
SerendipityHappens replied to RAAinNH's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hopefully you will be able to get the revision you need. There are many here for whom the band did not work. There is no need to be embarrassed. When I was in Mexico for my sleeve there were several others were doing or had done Band to sleeve revision. Thank you for sharing your story. I considered the band several years ago because it seemed like such a miracle device. Thankfully after reading stories like yours I opted not to do it. So I hope you continue to share your story because people have the right to this information. Best of luck to you, I hope you will find resolution to your problem soon. -

Calcium Suggestions?
SerendipityHappens replied to kchristian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry, but they're not smaller.. They're the exact same size and shape as the citrical.. only difference is that they don't say Citrical on them. I even did a side by side dissolve test on them, and they both had the same dissolve time (under six minutes) The product number is 33195, but I just called them because I didn't see them on the website and they are currently on backorder! -
Calcium Suggestions?
SerendipityHappens replied to kchristian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If cost is a factor for you and you like the citrical petites, then you'll LOVE puritain's pride Miniatures.. they're the exact same thing as the citrical but mail order and WAY cheaper.. Right now they're having buy one get two free with free shipping.. I think it works out to around $6.00 a bottle! -
How long to eat salad?
SerendipityHappens replied to sunshiinej1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not everyone can handle foods as quickly as their diet progression allows. I had salad at around 7 weeks and no problem. I chose spring greens, onion, tomatoes and cucumbers and I chopped it all up quite fine... kind of like tabouleh texture. It filled me up FAST but no problems with it. If you try it and have problems though, don't worry, just try it again in a few weeks or months. -
Shallow a pill?
SerendipityHappens replied to sunshiinej1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, i was swallowing pills in the hospital too.. The only pill I waited on was my calcium because it was a bit larger than the others so I was asked to wait 2weeks before starting that one. -
Is it possible I have already stretched my new sleeve?
SerendipityHappens replied to fultont's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Firstly, Ditch the New whey Protein, it's not good quality protein that your body can use. Second, I could drink 80 ounces a day while still in the hospital... How much Fluid you can drink has nothing to do with sleeve size. It's related to inflammation, those who can drink less have more inflammation of the sleeve -
I was the same way on liquids.. I could drink my 16 ounce Protein Shake in 30 minutes (the same length of time it took me to drink one pre-sleeve)... liquids just run right through.. Even yogurt or cottage cheese didn't really fill me up too well... I didn't feel restriction until I started eating dense Proteins and whole veggies.

Ignore user?
SerendipityHappens replied to SerendipityHappens's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
LOL, I'd never ignore you LL... I actually never thought I'd get to the point where I'd want to ignore ANYONE because generally, I can disagree with someone on one topic and then agree on a different topic without issue and besides I like to read dissenting viewpoints, I just can't handle the disrespect that some want to bring to the forum.... and now I don't have to.. WOO HOO!!! -

My WLS journey with Alighterme/Dr.Lopez/Mexico the Real Deal
SerendipityHappens replied to skinny2be's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Well, if my doctor had shown up with a rusty saw and I was kidnapped by a Mexican drug lord, I'd have put that in my review.. but my yeah experience was pretty much butterflies and rainbows. Unsubscribing from this thread too now. -

SerendipityHappens replied to ********'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So glad I learned how to use the "unsubscribe" function here on VST.. Happily unsubscribing from this thread now before this entire thing turns too ugly for my delicate sensibilities.
