Be honest - does anyone regret the surgery?
SerendipityHappens replied to TvlGrl712's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes there are people on this forum who regret the surgery, but I'm not one of them! Best thing I ever did.. If I was able to be successful with diet and exercise alone then I wouldn't have ever gotten up to 360 pounds in the first place. The way I feel about it is our stomachs are not MADE for eating three square meals a day plus a few Snacks here and there.... An unsleeved stomach is the size of a FOOTBALL ya know so you can fill up and then not eat for a few days.. Do I really need a stomach the size of a FOOTBALL in a culture where you eat three times a day????? Been sleeved for three and a half months now and it's going great. I can eat anything I want but choose not to most of the time. The portions are satisfying and I'm losing weight albeit a bit slower than many other sleevers. -
I had a drain. I never even noticed it except when I was walking around and it would hang down around my knees and when it would swing around, it kind of felt pinchy...but then someone showed me it had a clip on it so I clipped it to my johnny and was good to go! It wasn't gross, it didn't hurt. I had a two day hospital stay and it was removed just before I left the hospital (I believe some may keep it longer but mine was completely dry so not really needed) When the doctor removed it, I was told to take a deep breath and exhale.. as I was exhaling, he took out the drain.. I didn't feel a thing. He put a bandaid over the incision where the drain was and that was it.

Long term PPI usage
SerendipityHappens replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOVE The new pic! I took the Omeprazole for one month following surgery and quit it and for the past week have been feeling a bit of acid so I just started another course. (14 days) I was told to only take it for the first month and then do a complete 14 day course when I feel the acid come back. I might have to do a course of PPI or two each year, but that's better than just taking it continually.... so that's what I'm doing. Prior to getting sleeved I had chronic reflux but I discovered that I was having a reaction to wheat... once I quit the wheat, the reflux went away. -
Increasing My Calorie Intake - Thoughts?
SerendipityHappens replied to FindingElise's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went right up to 800 calories almost immediately after surgery and I'm currently eating 800-1050 calories a day (usually closer to 800) The difference between 800 calories and 600 calories a day, represents less than two pounds of additional weight loss in a month. Yeah, I'd like to have those two pounds, but I just feel better at around 800 calories so that's where I'm going to stick! -
Trouble with the bariatric chewable vitamins
SerendipityHappens replied to leezel_777's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I separate them out.. and take throughout the day and they don't have Iron so I can take them with my Calcium. You don't HAVE to separate them out, but I do because I think you absorb more of the Vitamins that way. I bought from Amazon.com I paid like $40.00 for 540 capsules.. which works out to around 10.00 a month. -
Energy levels 3 months after sleeve
SerendipityHappens replied to AnnMarie1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 months out and tired often. My primary care doctor told me to just focus on getting more sleep. It's not a huge issue, it's not ruining my life, but I've definitely noticed that I'm really tired. I've had all of my bloodwork checked and everything is normal.. I told my PCP, I'm already sleeping 7-8 hours a night.. and she told me that maybe I needed more.. try sleeping for 9 hours a night.. Seems to be helping. -
Trouble with the bariatric chewable vitamins
SerendipityHappens replied to leezel_777's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why not just get capsules? Bariatric advantage makes capsules. I take four a day. (dosage is six, but that's for RNY patients, since I'm a sleeve patient I only need four) -
Anyone not drinking protien shakes or eating protien bars?
SerendipityHappens replied to varg's topic in Food and Nutrition
That's fantastic! As long as you're meeting your protein goals I don't think it much matters. Getting your protein from real food is the goal for most people anyway. There are some patients who are encouraged by their doctors to discontinue protein shakes as soon as they can eat meat. Personally I eat bars because I have a sweet tooth and they're convenient. I get 70-90 grams of protein a day with about half from bars/powders and the other half from real food. -
Soda was allowed by my Dr. at 6 weeks.. but I didn't try any until like maybe 10 weeks... I've had a few sodas here and there and it doesn't feel any difference now than it did before my sleeve.

Where are the apple shapes?!
SerendipityHappens replied to NewAshes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was pretty much an apple with huge legs at 335 Now at 256 I'm shaped like a coke bottle/pear still with huge legs... Stomach has been the first to go. waist has gone from a 53 to a 42 and hips has gone from 58 to 50 bust has gone from 53 to 48 -
You can pick up quest bars at GNC. I love ALL the flavors.... but coconut cashew is my favorite. I get my chia seeds at the farmer's market, but they are available in most grocery stores in the "natural" section.
-
Have you tried Quest bars? 20 grams of Protein and 18 grams of fiber under 200 calories. You MIGHT still have the problem of them tasting too good, but maybe you can find a flavor that is "just ok" instead of SUPER DELICIOUS! Just make sure you drink a lot of Water before eating one because when you have extra fiber, you need extra water to help push it through. Another option is CHIA SEEDS... I like to dissolve a tablespoon or two in a fruity flavored drink (I do lemonade made with stevia, but you can do anything you want) and then I shake it every few minutes for 15 minutes so the chia seeds can hydrate and gel.

I don't want to see any posts made by a certain user or threads started by this user either. Is there an "ignore user" function here? If so how do I do it?

I started at 6 weeks.. I found that baby spinach and spring field greens worked a lot better than romaine and iceberg lettuces. I also cut up the salad into small bits (almost the same size as tabouleh)

Would love to hear about anyones experiance with Dr.Valenzuela and Mi Doctor hospital
SerendipityHappens replied to tober's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My experience was great with both.. I've posted several times about it so if you search a bit you'll find some of my reviews. I have full confidence in Dr Valenzuela and her partner Dr. Cabrerra. MiDoctor was 'ok' It served the purpose and I received the care I needed. Reminded me of the hospital in my small hometown. -
Lower stomach
SerendipityHappens replied to Ahealthyme2013's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, I'm 41 years old and have been fat since birth. I've had a large lower stomach since I can remember and I've had a pannus from age 11. I've lost 100 pounds and I'm half way through my journey.. My lower stomach is hanging as low as before but it's just more deflated now. and it's coming up in the center.. so now it basically looks like two flat boobs.. SOOOO ATTRACTIVE! But I guess the good news is it's not hanging LOWER than before! My ARMS are a different story.. They used to be fat, but at least they were cylindrical... now I've got bingo wings! GRRRRRRRR. Honestly, I'd rather have the fatter arms but we can't pick and choose.. Guess I'll be getting those babies chopped off when I go for plastics on my tummy! -
Why did the Marriott hotel charge my debit card?
SerendipityHappens replied to Olivia23's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
yes it's included.. As for WHY anybody would have to give their credit card information.. it's pretty standard to do that even when the actual room charge is already covered. The booking angency covers the room fee... but because YOU are actually staying in the room, you have to give your credit card as security to cover charges if there is theft/damage to the room. Also, for everyone who is stating that they were charged, have you called the Marriott about it and asked? -
Forget food funeral! I had a clothes funeral :)
SerendipityHappens replied to Kami63's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GREAT JOB! And perfect timing for your sister to be able to have a wardrobe for her to shrink into. I JUST got rid of my first batch of clothes.. I'm a 22 going into a 20 and some of the clothes I got rid of were 28s and I was STILL WEARING THEM up until last week. I had a hard time parting with them because they were expensive and I liked them.. and more importantly I have only ONE pair of size 22 pants in my wardrobe.... I've found several size 20s at the thrift store but I'm not quite there yet so I'll be going the next month or so with ONE pair of jeans and I guess the rest of the time I'll be wearing stretch pants! I also have two shirts in size 18/20 that bought when I was a size 24 and they fit me now perfectly so I'm wearing them ALL THE TIME to get all my wear out of them. Ordinarily I don't wear my favorite clothes a lot because I don't want to wear them out but now I totally want to get all the wear I can out of them! -
Honestly, who has had zero problems
SerendipityHappens replied to sparker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Three months out... zero problems. Never struggled with hydration, Got 70-90 grams of Protein in consistently even from the start, Tolerated all foods when introduced. Never slime, never throw up, Satisfied with portion size, swallowing pills in the hospital, minimal post-op pain or nausea, Incisions healed within days, no leaks, no blood clots. First labs were perfect. My sleeve has been very good to me. -
I was allowed them after six weeks but I didn't start eating them until 3 months.

What is considered a sip?
SerendipityHappens replied to jennlhp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
a table spoon. I practiced sipping by measuring 1/4 cup of Water and taking FOUR sips from it.. that makes each sip a tablespoon... Turns out I didn't need all the practice though.. My sleeve had no problem handling regular size swallows of Fluid right from the beginning... I never really had to do the small "sips" nor did I have to space out my fluids because it just ran right through my sleeve as fast as I'd drink it! I'm three months out and I just got back from working out and chugged half a 16 ounce water.. waited about two minutes and chugged the other half.... My sleeve is very good to me! -
Looks like this girl is going to Mexico!
SerendipityHappens replied to JenVSG2013's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
And he's a full-on-HOTTIE! Yep, got a major crush on Alvarez. -
Around Around 22-24 carbs... but 18 of them are Fiber.. typically only one or two sugar and 0-4 sugar alcohols. And you really don't believe in net carbs? I'm skeptical of subtracting sugar alcohols, but I definitely subtract fiber. I eat TONS of fiber which put my carbs up over 60 sometimes, but I stay in ketosis because most of the carbs are from fiber.. if I ate 60 carbs in a day from sugar it would definitely kick me out of ketosis so there's definitely a difference at least in my body.

SerendipityHappens replied to thedivinemsQ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1 week clear, 1 week, 1 week puree, 1 mushy 1 week soft foods and some meats, then at the 6th week I could eat everything. -
Looks vs. Health...looks 1 health 0
