How long did you take off work?
andthen replied to DreamsOfSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took off a month but actually returned to work after three days. I had surgery on Friday and was back working on Monday but even so you cannot go into it thinking you'll be back to normal. You will no longer have a normal and the first week after surgery you're not even going to want to wear pants with a waist. Eating is tedious and requires focus and you should make sure that if you do return to work quickly you'll still allow yourself the "you" time you need -
I am 5 weeks out and between week four and five i started noticing that the portions I was able to tolerate we're quickly becoming smaller and smaller. By day six of this my chewable Vitamin is making me experience the feeling of being overly full. I have moves back to liquids for the weekend and am now having a hard time with even Clear Liquids. This is super bizarre to me because I have been doing great up until now and other than not being able to eat i feel fine. I have a barium swallow scheduled for tomorrow. Has anyone else had this happen? Is this stricture?

I specifically asked about this right before my surgery and was told two weeks - but you'll want to make sure you are well hydrated.

You should absolutely go! This is not something that should become a disability to your social life. You will need to plan ahead and bring things with you. Include a couple of tea bags and don't be shy about ordering tea at the brewery. The point is to share good times with friends, you don't need to consume things to do that and the brewery isn't going to care one bit if one person in the group isn't drinking. They may even praise you for being the designated driver!

My first day back to work surprise!
andthen posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery out of state and after three weeks out of the office I returned to work. I have been doing great but today was quite miserable (it may have just been the reality of work). I returned home and a friend had dropped off this gift. He called it my medal. This totally turned my day around. -

I know! He was actually worried that I would be offended when, in fact, the sentiment brought me to happy tears! -
1 week post surgery and wondering ...

When will I stop sounding like a Water cooler? My insides are in a constant state of moving liquid and air. Today was actually the first day I wasn't feeling so hot and I felt like I had a ton of bricks on my chest. Did I take in too much yesterday? I don't even know how to describe the discomfort. Is it normal to take a small sip and then have to wait for an air bubble to make its way up before the chest tightness goes away? -

I have been walking 1-2 miles every day since I came home from the hospital and using a heating pad... When does this usually go away? -
I am having this same problem. My surgeon said it could be the protein shakes or the sugar alcohols. Is anyone else consuming a lot of sugar alcohols?

I'm feeling great! I had some significant vision loss as a side effect of the medications and anesthesia but it seems to be resolving today. Overall the process has been pretty smooth but I will admit that I was a bit shocked by how little fluids I can consume in one swallow to avoid the tight chest feeling - but I am persistant and have been able to get in at least my minimum fluid requirements. I am now 4 days post op and just finished a mile walk (I did walk slow) but overall I am thrilled to be on the recovery side instead of the waiting side.
