Oh yes ma'am!!! I am so with you! I've always been the funny fat girl. Fat Amy anyone? It still shocks me. So far- I'm still my same loud overly zealous self. Down 53lbs. My good friend and I are very very similar- but she is one of those naturally skinny peeps- who at 30 and after having 2 kids is getting laser lipo to get rid if her 'belly fat'. I literally laughed out loud when she told me. I'm a flirt, too. Always have been. I'm worried about that more anything. I'm harmless. My boyfriend likes to tell me that I have the female Napoleon syndrome . I'm 4'11. Seriously though- write a blog and I will follow you!

Welcome! And congrats on your date!

BMI=obese/no comorbities

Sleep apnea and hypertension are both co-morbidities. What is your current BMI? Higher than 35? Or are you in the 30-35 range? -
Needing encouragment / advice
ashelaine replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally thought of something else.... Have you had your b12 checked? Some symptoms include: neuropathy (loss of feeling in fingers and toes), difficulty walking, mood changes, and memory loss of disorientation. -

Sounds like something neuro to me- the fact that it is effecting your gait so strongly says that to me. That is where I would start if I were you. However- you might try a chiro on the off chance you have a pinched nerve somewhere (I have one that gets pinched in my wrist, elbow, shoulder and neck and causes some awesome headaches). -
November 2012 sleevers how are you doing ?

I bake for a living. It's so hard now- I have to taste. Thankfully I'm fine with just a small bit and ok that's good it's the way it's supposed to be and I'm on my way- but I just didn't even think of it until I was making my boyfriends birthday cake 2 weeks after surgery. Then we did a joint birthday party for our 3 kids the following weekend and Christmas baking. I will say- I haven't had any of my actual baked goods- seriously big shock! Even my breads I have made. Good luck!! And congrats on your loss so far! -
Where Are All The Short Vsg Girls?
ashelaine replied to sandygo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let me see- breakfast is normally a boiled egg and turkey bacon, lunch is a lunch meat roll up with cheese, salmon burger- I sometimes throw some teriyaki sauce on it, dinner is whatever I make for the family and I will eat the protein and two tablespoons of veggies. The other night I had the meat/sauce of a sloppy joe. I did have pasta last night... I'm such a cheater- but it really wasn't that great (seriously pasta was my life- so it was a big shock). I eat a lot of tex mex also- fajitas, soft corn tacos. -

I started at 248 and in a little over 2 months- I have lost 52lbs. I would say 60+ can happen . Good luck! I'm so glad my dr didn't require me to lose weight pre-surgery. Good luck!!!! -
Where Are All The Short Vsg Girls?

I'm with you Sel! My hips aren't going anywhere. And I definitely need my boobies put back where they belong after 2 kiddos, but- we will probably go for number 3 in 18 months or so- so I will wait for that and then have any plastics done. I'm hoping good genes and 'youth' are on my side (my great aunt is 90 and people card her for seniors specials... It's crazy how great she looks for her age- and my mom has handled aging well, too). There's hope . -
Where Are All The Short Vsg Girls?

My goal is 130. My dr's is 140. No clue how- but even with being 4'11- I have a large bone structure- I.e broad shoulders and wide hips. I was 139 in high school and I was fairly happy with my body (as much as any 16 year old girl could be). I had huge boobs back then, too. I'm 50lbs down and so far my skin is holding up. Anyone know when is average for starting to see loose skin? -

ashelaine replied to cnunez77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm normally at 45-55 carbs. I have had a bit of pasta once before and I will be having it for dinner tonight for the first time since surgery. I'm at 51lbs lost since 11/13. I follow my plan 95% of the time- but I'm veering off tonight. -
Decisions! Decisions!
ashelaine replied to READY4CHANGE2013's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My moms BFF had bypass in 2002. She went from 380ish to 155ish (she is 5'9). 5 years out she actually had a band put in to help with restriction- her pouch stretched and she wound up gaining some, but it has put her in check. I had a BMI of 50 at surgery. I went into this knowing it was the first stage of the DS. Now- 2 1/2 months out and 53lbs down- I couldn't imagine going back. I have had zero problems. I follow the rules 90% of the time. I get my protein and I am thrilled with my decision. My sister's dr is trying to get her to move from the band to the sleeve. She is on band number 2- and is having lots of complications. Good luck with whatever you choose. And FTR- my dr wanted me to consider the rny as well for diabetes (everyone in my family has it), but I went with the sleeve based on all of my research. -
Sleeve complications!
ashelaine replied to Ms.Cali's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask for reglan for nausea. When the other bausea drugs do not work well- reglan seems too. (It's the one that works on me). I'm so so sorry you are experiencing these complications. I so hope things get better for you! -
Flu vs leak symptom
ashelaine replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got over the flu. It's terrible . I'm so sorry you are feeling this sickly! If it is flu A- tamiflu won't help with the symptoms much. And Flu B wasn't covered by the flu shot this year. I'm so sorry again that you are feeling this yucky. -

My doc had me breathe in the tube, too- I think it came out to 2835 pre-op? I haven't had it re-tested since surgery though. I was shocked when I saw the number. -
Starving all the time !
ashelaine replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sarah- you got this! The early days suck. They just do. I can say that once I was allowed real food- all of my head hunger went away. I am now perfectly happy eating my tiny little portions and I never feel hungry. And yes- those with lower BMI's tend to lose slower. Think if it like percentages. You have lost roughly 10% of your starting weight. That's awesome. I've lost 49lbs in a little over 2 months, but my starting BMI was 50. -
November 2012 sleevers how are you doing ?
ashelaine replied to cnunez77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lets see- breakfast is boiled eggs and turkey sausage or this morning I had 1/2 a bagel cream cheese and smoked salmon. Lunch is lunch meat rolled up with cheese or a salmon burger (1/2). I buy mine at trader joes or Costco. Dinner is protein of whatever I make for the family. I had sloppy Joe meat the other day. I always get 2oz. Of meat, 1 tbsp of veggies. I don't eat many starchy veggies however I make them often for the family. My 6 year old is 'underweight' so- trying to get her to gain weight while I am trying to lose is fun. Tonight I'm making breakfast for dinner so I will have a 'fried' egg and turkey bacon. I do exercise. I'm doing couch to 5k and I actually have an Xbox kinect game called your fitness evolved that kicks my butt often . I also have Jillian's 30 day shred that I am starting feb 1. -

I always get 2 oz. of whatever protein I have. Lunch meat has been a go to for me, or the salmon burgers. I then get 1 tbsp of veggies. I eat very few starchy veggies. This morning I had 1/2 a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon. I drink a lot (a lot of tea). I make a gallon of 'sweet' tea and drink it in 3 days. I use artificial sweetener to make it sweet. I take my vitamins. I am by no means perfect. I totally had a slice of German chocolate cake on Saturday (my birthday was Friday and my future MIL made me a cake). What was your start weight and BMI? I'm super short (4'11) so my BMI was 50! I think that is another reason I have lost faster than some. -
I'm so confused and scared
ashelaine replied to hnkids3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I almost lost my sister because of the band. I knew it wasn't for me. She is now on her 2nd band (they removed and replaced dec. 31 2011). I have lost more in 2 months than she has lost in 6 years of being banded without any of the horrible after effects she has had. I can eat whatever I want- I just can't eat as much. The amount of out of pocket she has had to pay for her band issues blows my mind. Good luck in whatever you choose!
