Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC
HoosierGirl replied to Kindle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
When you met with the nutritionist, were you surprised where she set your goal weight? That was incredibly interesting to me - learned so much meeting with her. Glad you are feeling well and yes - my dermabond incisions healed very nicely! I'm super white on the belly and they are a very light pink 9 months after surgery...barely noticeable. -

Hey Y'all - New Here - Insurance approved today!

Susan - Congrats on your approval! (Perhaps we can be friends even though you are a dreaded Michigan fan! Go Hoosiers! LOL!!) In all seriousness, you are wise to be aware of the risks any surgery brings - and educated about the risks of this particular surgery. Like you, I tried and struggled with my weight my entire adult life. I would lose and then gain. Always on some diet. Sometimes a bit of success, but nothing lasting. My pre-surgery diet wasn't bad, just BIG. After my sleeve, I have control in a way I never had before. While I do get hungry, the "good stuff" fills me up and keeps me full. The bad stuff doesn't taste that great anymore and makes me feel awful. Exercise is so much easier and is now fun because you can clearly see the results. Do what your doc says, enjoy your supportive hubby and hang on for a crazy ride! The pre-surgery worry is the WORST part of all this - for me at least. Although I had a different surgeon, you are welcome to read my BLOG about the surgery and recovery. (As well as my pre-surgery craziness!) www.hoosierfatty.wordpress.com Be sure to keep us updated as to how you are doing! Hugs and good luck! Shelley -
Between a rock and a hard place
HoosierGirl replied to Roo101769's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds silly, but this summer I posted a "want ad" on Care.com and we found a wonderful baby sitter. I was able to meet and "interview" her, set rates, dates that she will come, etc. It could be an option for you to have someone come to your home while you recover to take care of your daughter. Don't give up...you will figure this out! -

Nope...I had toes painted too! They were pretty relaxed about things at OCC. In fact, the nurses didn't pester me the night after surgery...actually got a really good night of sleep. -

I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!! (BTW, I wore a full face of makeup into surgery and no one said a word! Nor did they complain when I was post op insisting that I go to the bathroom to wash my face before bed!!! LOL...high maintenance!) Prayers sent up for you! You are going to do GREAT! -

I'm new and I'd like a mentor?
HoosierGirl replied to NikkiBGood's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Nikki! I was sleeved in February and am down 77 lbs! Hope I can help or offer suggestions. I think the mental changes that come with this physical surgery are the most challenging part of all this. Totally get where you are coming from. For me, it was a big buzz kill to no longer be able to socialize with food. Plus, it's expensive to go out and eat when you cannot eat much. Then there are the occasions when you want to eat, but cannot. Over time, your feelings will change and your choices will change. In some ways, your friends will change. Have you had the experience yet of watching how much the unsleeved can eat? Have you had the feelings of embarrassment and disgust? Really believe your success with the sleeve is mental. The pre-op diet is mental, staying on the post op diet is mental and making the changes stick are mental. Hit me up with questions anytime! -

I'd tell her that you cannot go bike riding as you will be home eating carbs...but you noticed that SHE could really use the exercise and don't want to slow her down. And I would take every opportunity to critique her diet choices too. What is wrong with some women? And supposedly our friends? Come on... (OK yes I have PMS and feel unusually mean today. Please send all negative people my way and I will recalibrate them.)

Need some advice/help/motivation...
HoosierGirl replied to learningtoliveright's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here are some random suggestions: 1. Who do you know (a person you see often) that would be an accountability partner to support/encourage your diet & exercise? 2. Do you use MyFitnessPal to log everything? You should check it out, it's helpful. 3. What if you baby stepped your way back to healthy diet? Setting small goals that get you back to a good diet. Like today I won't drink my calories. Or my goal today is to get 60 G Protein. Tracking calories, protein, etc? 4. Is there someone who would commit to exercising with you? 5. Don't beat yourself up! 6. Focus on making your next food choice a good choice for your sleeve. Don't worry about anything beyond the current meal. You know what to do. You have successfully lost 60 lbs and that is a BIG deal! Really, if you got serious, you could lose the next 60 by spring. You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. My two cents. Go go go!!!
