  1. Getting off blood pressure medication was my primary goal in having weight loss surgery. I want to be healthy and have a long life. Had surgery 2/4/13 (only 16 days ago). Including the pre-op weight loss, I have lost a total of 25 pounds! My surgeon advised almost immediate follow up with my primary care doctor to manage the medications with the weight loss. This week, I have been able to get off ALL my blood pressure medications! While I am still monitoring my blood pressure, I don't think I will have to go back on meds as I continue to lose weight. When my doctor's office called with the news, I had to shut my office door and cry. This almost feels like a dream. I am humbled beyond words at what a miracle this surgery has been - and I am only starting this process. Can only imagine all the good that will come losing the rest of this weight. Any inconvenience, discomfort, cost or hassle associated with this whole process is MORE than worth it.

    mexico surgery?

Had surgery in Mexico on Feb. 4 - it was great. I selected a different doctor and was very pleased with the treatment and outcome. No issues with travel or language barriers. Just do a LOT of research and talk with the surgeon if you can - be sure what you will get and what to expect.

    Any Catholics in the crowd?

Had surgery two weeks ago and am focused on prayer and almsgiving during Lent as I am still technically FASTING! Ha ha! Only one more week of full liquid diet, then start soft foods. Since some of the best Protein is fish/seafood, I will still technically be fasting long after lent is over! All the best!
  13. I know! A close friend was sleeved on 1/24, she was almost immediately on soft foods. I don't want to do anything to hurt my sleeve, so I am following the doctor's recommendations. Just really excited to have some cottage cheese or refried beans next Sunday! The full liquid diet is not very exciting....but I am losing a bunch of weight!
  14. When do you get to start solids? My doc recommended a 21 day liquid diet....thankfully, I'm halfway there (surgery on Feb. 4). Do you think some "real food" will help being so tired? Oh - and am tracking my blood pressure, believe they will lower my BP meds next week!!!!! I have lost 21 lbs with surgery and pre-op diet!!!
  15. Diamondeyed - VERY excited for you! Safe surgery - please let us know when you are out of surgery and doing OK!

    Surgery Feb 4 - Tijuana

Ten days out from my VSG. Other than being tired, I feel pretty good. I've had some, um, loose bowel issues. (When you gotta go, you gotta go!). Am half way through the full liquid diet and looking forward to eating soft-foods. The desire to eat is there, but I wouldn't say I have been "hungry". And I think the soft foods will help satisfy the desire to eat, give that full feeling maybe help with tiredness (and hopefully help the bowel issues). Incisions are healing nicely. Overall, the only thing I would change is taking 2 weeks off work vs. just 1 week.

  20. Woot woot! Safe surgery and speedy recovery! Can't wait to hear all about it! You are going to do great!
  21. Amber - your story is WONDERFUL! Especially the emotions you feel as you have surgery and recover. The same thoughts racing through my head, but you state them so well. Specifically, having the feeling of fullness and control...it is powerful to feel that control. I am excited to follow your posts as you lose the weight! All the best! Shelley

At OCC - lots of waiting

Woo woo - rocking the paper underwear and hairnet! Too funny! (I had a paper underwear wedgie while I was there. Very sexy.) Seems like if it was going to be later in the day, they could have told you and allowed you to show up mid-morning? Sheesh. Safe surgery!

At OCC - lots of waiting

I think Monday is the busy day at OCC. Last Monday, there were 6 surgeries. They started off with the "easy" surgery first (two plications), then did my sleeve, and the last three surgeries were band-to-sleeve revision surgeries. Don't remember what time my surgery was, but after I got in my room and got the IV, it went quickly after that. And I wasn't thrilled about having six surgeries in a day either - especially wouldn't like 7.
