Protein Powders Drinks etc Aussies only
*Dean* replied to mini.mee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry MM, I missed this post. I only just saw it. I've only used their powders with no, or almost no carbs. They have some with carbs for putting on weight. For losing weight their best powder is 'Super Shred'. It comes in chocolate, mochachino and caramel nougat. I've used the chocolate and the mochachino. This is a great product with a number of carb blockers as well. When I lost 70 kgs a decade ago I used the old version of this product (called hydroxy phase) a couple of times a day for 18 months. It is a little expensive. No carbs and a hydrolysed WPI Protein, which means it has good bioavailabilty (your body uses it efficiently). 'Reload HGF' is also good. Hydrolysed WPI as well, no carbs. You pay a bit more for additives that would only be of benefit if you were weight training. Only comes in chocolate. If you didn't want to pay for 'Super Shred' (after all we're not eating that many carbs anyway) I'd go for their standard 'WPI'. Still the good quality protein I was talking about, but your not paying for all the extras (carb blockers etc). I've tried the Vanilla and Chocolate but it also comes in a Choc Banana. I'm not a fan of artificial banana flavour, so I haven't tried that one. Cheers, Deano -
I'm sure he's just very worried. Also there may be some guilt as well. I know for me as a father I have one of my daughters (I have 8 yo twins) who appears to have a similar relationship with food that I 'had'. I feel pretty guilty about it. If it is genetic, it's not the gift I would have liked to have given her. I don't know if you were over weight as a child, but maybe he feels like he contributed? With a BMI of about 60, this will be a fantastic thing for you. Your Dad doesn't have all the information, so really is basing his opinion on a lack of information (I was going to say ignorance, but it sounded bad!! ) All the best on Thursday, Deano

What's a CDL, Butter? What do you do for a living? Deano -
I hate to say it, but he may be feeling a little insecure about how you'll look down the track. Good luck with your surgery.

Blood tests are reliable indicator. They do a liver fuction test and if you have a high BMI and a struggling liver it's likely you have a fatty enlarged liver.

When was the last time you lost 26 pounds in less than a month? -
I had similar happening for a while. I'd be uncomfortable after the evening meal. I worked out I was just eating way too quickly for dinner. As far as variances go I have some days where I struggle to get 5 or 6 hundred and others where I've just busted 1000. I'm about 9 1/2 weeks post op.

Nice. If you're having some rapid weight loss and low carbohydrates it could also be ketosis.

I'm glad you've emailed your surgeon. The variance in advice from them on lots of subjects is bizzare - pre op diets, straws, coffee the list is endless. My thoughts are we chosen a surgeon for a number of reasons. We're trusting them to do a good job and take care of us. We need to do as we're told (or ask questions!) Deano

That's what I'm talking about!!!!! -
Same. I keep some in my work bag so that if I'm out and about on a job I don't get caught out. You really have to research them, some are particularly high in carbs / cals.

My wife does this and makes it extra thick to make a few different healthy dips, like tzatziki.

Hey, You'll have to excuse their labels / marketing with cartoon bodybuilding freaks, but I really like Max's products. They're the only ones I've found that I don't mind with Water. http://www.maxs.com.au/ -

Hiya. I'm sorry this has happened. I have no idea what the solution is. I'm a detective with the police in Australia. I'm also an on call Negotiator. I unfortunately at times speak with people at pretty dark times in their lives because they've stopped taking their meds. I'm sure you're under a huge amount of pressure. Please don't change or stop taking your medication without speaking with your psychiatrist. I'm sure there's a solution. Maybe get your weight loss professionals speaking with the mental heath professionals to come up with a solution - that's what we pay them for! All the best, Deano -
sleep is really important for weight loss. You need to plan and work your schedule backwards for the 8am start to work out what time you need to get up and then what time you need to go to bed from there to get 7 or 8 hours. Mentally if you know what your 'bed time' is once your in your routine it will be easier to get to sleep at that time. I work shift work so I'm used to dealing with sleep issues. I sometimes resort to over the counter / herbal sleeping tablets. Some of them are really effective.

I'm 9 weeks post op. My kids do nippers (like training to be lifesavers for kids in Australia) I'd always been fine in the surf. Strong swimmer and the waves just seem to bounce off me. Last Sunday I got dumped by the surf a number of times like I was a rag doll. It was quite funny. So I know what you mean. -
Isn't it cool to exercise because you enjoy it and to be fit and not because you should to lose weight? I have a whole new relationship with training.

I didn't want anyone around for the first day. Just wanted to walk the halls and rest. -
That's awesome. Good work with the discrete perving at the movies !

Just know that it's for a short time and by sticking to your pre op diet you'll get the best outcome post surgery. Tough it out and remember why you're doing this! Good luck, Deano
