  1. I believe it's all about the effect a carbohydrate has on your blood glucose. Some types of fibre, for example, are classified as a carbohydrate but have a zero effect on your blood glucose. Some people take away these carbohydrates to get a 'net carb' value.
  2. Aah, just in time for summer!!
  3. I think only you can make that decision. You're obviously going to get very pro WLS responses here. For me, I'd been struggling and yoyo dieting for decades. The older I got the harder it got. Eventually I'd lost all optimism for losing weight and I knew WLS was for me. If you think that you can avoid surgery, and the associated risks, and lose 100 pounds at a weight loss centre maybe you should give it a go? My thoughts again, but I don't think getting the ball rolling with both options would work. Losing weight is about commitment. If someone had an 'iron in the fire' with WLS as a back up plan, I don't believe anyone would succeed at what ever the first option was. What ever method you choose it has to be with a 'I'm NOT going to fail at this' attitude. Going to WLS appointments will undermine this. Good luck with what ever you choose, Deano

I'm a big fan of getting out and training, unless you live in a climate (weather or crime) where that can't happen. You can feel self concious at first. But eventually I realised it was just in my head, because no body cares! I can remember lying on the floor at a gym 10 years ago with a trainer trying to get me to do one sit up. He could tell I was self concious. Being the up front person he was, he called it as he saw it. He said "Every one here is trying to get fitter. Your lying on the floor thinking your a loser. Nobody here cares what you're doing. The losers aren't here. They're home eating potato chips on the couch". Weather it's true or not, it worked for me. I do Crossfit now. I'm a pretty good lifter and when it comes to weigh lifting sessions I do ok. Other stuff like chin ups etc, I have nothing. But I'm there, having a go. Good luck with the c25k - looks awesome! Deano PS - I'm not calling anyone or any particular lifestyle a loser here. The concept is more that you're a winner for getting amongst it. Don't bash me!

    How do i be thin?

I lost a significant amount of weight over 10 years ago, more than 150 pounds (and put most of it back on, so here I am). I had the same issue. Over time as I lost the weight my personality got 'dialed down' a little, in a good way. I used to think I was the biggest person in the room so I also needed to have the biggest personality in the room. I was still the same person thin, same sense of humour, same everything - just more confident and self assured. I didn't have the need to be in peoples faces all the time.
  15. With a family reaction like that I try and not look at it as 'supportive' and 'unsupportive'. Your mum loves you, wants the best for you, is worried for your health, your safety, worried for you long term .... etc etc You can't ask for more supportive than that! It's just her perspective is different. Different life experiences. There is a very small risk with this surgery. Some people are more adverse to risk than others. Some aren't prepared to take on any risk whatsoever. So I guess don't think of your Mum as 'unsupportive'. She's given you her thoughts, but any decision is yours to make Deano

  18. Hey Cookie. What ever the reason is it's her reason. If it were me, I'd just let it run it's natural course. Down the track it will probably come out.
  19. I lost 154 pounds a decade ago through diet and exercise. I had a tummy tuck then and excess skin doesn't generally weigh that much.
  20. I lost 70kgs a decade ago with diet and exercise. I had a tummy tuck and excess skin really doesn't weigh all that much.

  23. Hey - I'm doing about 800 a day. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. I'm trying not to be too rigid about the cals but I do really stick to eating 6 times a day with no other Snacks etc.
