Dr David Kim/Dr Bridget Holden
court2180 replied to lori68pink's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As soon as they got my approval letter from Aetna they called me & I was scheduled. They called me June 3rd and I just had my sleeve done on July 2nd. -
I feel the same way when drinking liquids that I can drink it pretty fast. I had a pureed thicker soup & that went down slow but liquid goes pretty smooth & I'm 5 days out. Thought there was something wrong with me!!

I think the Celebrate chewables are ok. And their caramel calcium chews are to die for!
-
Check out the recipes forum. I'm five days out & already have found a bunch of good ones. Also fatsecret.com & chefdave.com, but you have to pay for that one. Or look at the bookstores for cookbooks. I'm counting the days till I get more than liquids, so exciting!

Dermabond falling off already?
court2180 replied to JessicaAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had that with other surgeries & it will come off when ready. If your concerned look for signs of infection & call the Dr. I wish I had that, I've got staples. I had mine on 7/2 & they don't come out till 7/11 at my post op appt but they itch like crazy since its starting to heal now. -
Not a problem! I had it at work & on my phone so whenever I needed a reminder it was there & gave me the will & determination to stick to the diet. It will pass but just a warning...there are A LOT of food commercials on TV lol!

It will be hard but after awhile you kind of become numb. I copied and pasted the post below and had it on my work computer and read it EVERYDAY for my preop diet. I did not write this, I can't remember who did but it is in the preop section of the forums. And yes, I was on Clear Liquids only for a week so if I did it YOU can do it. Best of luck! Hi guys. I see a lot of you are struggling and worried pre-op about the pre-op diet. It is a HUGE challenge, but for me, it was an important one. Exactly 1 year ago, I was in the middle of a 2 week liquid pre-op diet because my BMI was 55+ and I was self-pay in Mexico. Traveling from Canada meant that a reschedule would be A LOT of extra expense if my surgeon had to stop due to an enlarged liver mid-surgery. I had NO CHOICE but to follow the diet. It also meant that cheating would increase the chance of complications and a longer recovery (or worse), all because I could not follow a 2 WEEK diet. Really? Here I was, about to take a seriously radical, life-changing step and get 85% of my stomach cut out permanently. But I can't follow a 2 week diet? That's crazy. Post-op was going to be difficult for MONTHS, not days. So if I couldn't get my head in the game for the pre-op diet, then maybe I wasn't ready for what was going to follow post-op. I was terrified! So I started the liquid diet. And I was STARVING. I was dreaming of all the foods I thought were leaving my life forever. Suddenly I didn't care that I had spent my life morbidly obese, I wanted my comfort back. I wanted to fill myself to bursting at every meal, like it was my last meal forever. But I didn't break my diet. Because for once, I wasn't going to cheat myself. It was time to grow up (I'm 43....) and take responsibility for my health, my future and my choices. A lifetime of justification, gluttony and excuses brought me to that operating room. Now it was time to face the music and get on with owning my future. The first 3 days were HELL. That is when your body is detoxing from the carbs. You are using up the glycogen in your liver (to help "shrink" it) and it's screaming for replacement carbs to fill it back up. You can get through it. After 3 days it gets MUCH better. After a week you start to feel normal and more healthy than you have felt in years. You may be hungry, but you don't have the carb cravings anymore. Most importantly, you feel IN CONTROL; and mentally and emotionally strong for battling your demons and winning. This is the first tangible proof in an unsure future that you CAN get through the post-op recovery and that you CAN succeed in losing the weight this time, FOR LIFE. Whatever weight you lose during your pre-op diet is really inconsequential. What is important is what you gain: - Confidence - Emotional and physical self-control - The desire to succeed and overcome "impossible" obstacles - The knowledge that you are a WINNER as long as you do your best Please don't look at the pre-op diet as a "condition" that your surgeon imposes on you (and some surgeons don't require it!). It is an OPPORTUNITY for you to test yourself, to help build your will, character and emotional toughness BEFORE you have the surgery. It's like training for a marathon.....you put the blood sweat and tears in before the race to help you finish the race on game day. Without training and preparation, you will likely fail and you can get hurt really badly along the way! Use your pre-op diet to work through your demons, build up your confidence and prove to yourself you can do it. If you "fall off the wagon" one day, the next day is a fresh start. Aim for excellence. You owe it to yourself.

Sorry I was just in the hospital one night. And the shots were blood thinners, to help protect you against blood clots after surgery. -

I was pleased with both. This was my first overnight surgery since I was about 5 or 6. I wasn't nervous going into surgery but I am now cause I don't want to damage anything. I did start my pureed foods tonight. The B-book says 4-7 days after surgery so I'm trying it, tired of all the sweet stuff. Overall I've been happy with my entire experience and can't wait to see how I look & feel week after week. -
The last time I went on one, years ago it was a VERY TIGHT fit and I was afraid the entire time. Next summer its, on roller coaster mania!

I had Dr Holden and my sleeve was done at Trophy Club on 7/2, & am 4 days out. Four people at my work recently had the sleeve and I knew most of everything that would happen but not all. Prepare to be sick, dry heaving, the night of surgery. Not trying to scare you but I did not know that a lot of people have that issue. In the last class they say you cannot drink after surgery but you CAN have mouth swabs but you CANNOT, they lied . The next morning, at 8, they start doing the swallow tests to check for leaks. The barium is NASTY, its sweet but bitter looked like Lysol. I was able to keep it down until I got back to my room and got some Water in me. But after it came up I never got sick or felt sick again. You will be sent home with a prescription for blood thinner, 10 days worth of shots you have to give yourself in your stomach. The needle is small and it doesn't hurt. Get GAS X and take it, you will have lots of gas pains and the pain meds do not help with that. I've only taken my pain meds at night when I go to sleep, other than that I'm just sore but not in pain. Good luck & keep us posted!! -
Nice! I wish I could have taken a shower at the hospital but all I reaslly wanted to do was sleep. But the day after I got home I was able to shower and it was wonderful!

May 22 Dallas/Plano TX area.. anyone else?

Hi I'm in Plano! Had my sleeve done 7/2 by Dr Holden who works with Dr Kim. Today is day 4 and feel great for the first time! -
Hello! I had my sleeve done on 7/2 and after reading a few comments on here I was afraid I was going to wake up feeling TERRIBLE today as a lot of people seem to feel bad on day 4. To my surprise, even though I didn't sleep much, I woke up and feel great. I put up dishes, paid bills, cleaned my room up a bit from the stuff laying around when I got home from the hospital & finished my protein drink in about 1.5 hours. I hope each day continues this good. Right after surgery and even after I got home I was asking myself why the heck did I do this. I know it was just the pain from surgery and my body yelling at me but I was a little worried. Well I hope everyone is doing well and feeling great on their way to a happier healthy self!

I use all flavors of Unjury and am mixing with water as I just had surgery. When I used them before surgery I mixed it with skim or FF milk and would add a handful of frozen berries or frozen pineapple, mango & strawberries. For the chicken flavor I would add it to soups as well as the cheese flavor. My favorite was tomato soup with the cheese protein added into it.

Anyone have temporary post op acid reflux?
court2180 replied to lynndtt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had it for years but after my surgery, 7/2, the Dr did say to take pepcid two times a day for the first 6 months. I'm hoping mine goes away permanently in a few months. -
I'm now 3 days out and feel ehh, mosty sore and lots of pressure from gas. Having a hard time getting my protein & liquids in but I think it's from the gas pains. So far I have not felt hungry or anything which is good. Waiting till my post op appointment to get these staples out, they itch!

I had surgery 7/2 and am only down 2 or 3 pounds. I've been having a hard time getting in my protein & liquids but I am trying, just get super full super fast. I also am dying to get rid of the gas they blow your belly up with. I'm hoping once that goes away I can get my liquids/protein in like I need to.

I was going to use Dr Nick but his staff was horrible and could not get my paperwork started so I went to Dr Kim. I'm doing my liquid diet now, finished day 2, 5 more to go till my 7/2 surgery. I LOVE the staff there and they are so patient, attentive & very helpful. Cannot say enough good things about them! Good luck!
