  1. Chike is my fave, but evry morning i have a cup of iced coffee mixed with a vanilla premiere RTD. 30 g protein, and being a RTD it mixes well with the coffee and is smooth. Also, the ice cubes are coffee - I use left over coffee in an ice cube tray for the next morning's ice cubes. So it is never watered down Chike is awesome but this is a close second!

My mother in law died this am....

I am so sorry for your loss. What a wonderful, loving, selfless person you are to be willing to move away from home to help care for your husbands family. I just want to say that since you can eat so little, it matters even MORE what you eat. You need to eat properly so that you can feel well and be there for your hubby. If you eat sugar and carbs instead of Protein and plenty of Water, you are going to feel like crap. Please do take care of yourself so that you can be there for husband & FIL. Best of luck to you. You will be in my prayers.

    The Nose Knows...

I actually noticed it at the beginning of my pre-op diet. I could (and still can) smell bread from 1/2 a mile! Same with sugar.

    Energy After Surgery

My surgery was 5/22, and for the first 2 weeks I slept a LOT-- just recovering from major surgery. I felt ok enough to go back to my desk job after about 10 days but was still drained at the end of the day. Ever since then it has been a steady increase in energy. I have noticed, however, that just the smallest little ailment (headache, heartburn, etc.) makes me shut down and go to sleep. It's as though my body doesn't have the energy to deal with it. I believe this to be because of the low cal diet, not necessarily the surgery itself. I eat about 900 to 1000 per day and very low carb. I believe when I reach goal and eat more calories eventually, this will not be an issue.

    Popcorn!

SO crazy! I was just daydreaming about popcorn! I've stayed away from it since surgery because I have also heard it's a slider....so now having seen your post, I think the timing of it is undeniable.....the Universe is warning me not to indulge in popcorn at this time on my journey. Thank you!

    tall female sleevers...

I always thought I was 5'10" -- i used to be anyways. I think maybe being obese compressed me a bit as I aged (I'm 41). So when the surgeon's office measured me at 5'9" I was surprised. However, I went with it because it helped get my BMI to the surgery- qualifying number of 40. I'm curious to see fi when I get to a more normal weight I get that inch back ANYWAYS! I started at 289, and now I'm at 214 ish. My surgeon's goal is 150, although I picked it & they said fine; it's not like they picked it for me. If that is reasonably achievable for me, then I will actually shoot for 145 as a personal goal. The caveat here is that if I were to get to say, 165, and find that I'm quite happy, I will make that my goal. I really just want to get to that normal BMI, and be happy and healthy.
  7. 1. Height - 5'9" 2. Starting highest weight - 289 3. Surgery weight - 279 4. Goal weight and/or current weight - goal is 150; currently at 215 5. Length of time to reach goal weight (edit: or length I time to reach current weight) - 20 weeks 6. Age - 41

    Nutribullet v. Magic bullet?

I have both. Nutribullet has a bigger cup & is much more powerful! I use it every day.

    I gained weight after surgery?

They typically start an IV of fluids before surgery, and they don't unhook you from it until right before you go home. All those fluids can make you gain weight! But it's just fluids, not really weight gain. I recommend that for now, you concentrate on healing from surgery and staying hydrated. Don't start worrying about weight loss for a week or two. I promise, it will happen!

    TOM question!

On second thought -- when you ask "am I in trouble?" ....well have you been eating sensibly, exercising, and staying hydrated? If your answers are yes, yes, and yes, then no you're not in trouble. Keep doing all the right things, and the fat loss will happen. And don't obsess about the scale!!

    TOM question!

Yes, it is TOTALLY conceivable to gain water weight with your TOM. You are also comparing morning weights with evening weights. Definitely going to weigh more in the evening. Honey, step away from the scale. It's going to make you crazy!

    A hair loss theory

My surgery was 5/22/13, and I haven't had hair loss (I'm like you though -- every time the subject comes up, I admit that it could start tomorrow by the handfuls!) My theory has been that I was able to get my protein and fluid intake up right after surgery, as well as my calories up to around 1000 early on, by consuming some healthy fats every day (yay avocados!). I use the same shampoo I always have (redken), because I figure that any hair loss is going to be at scalp level and not the result of breakage. I also still do consume protein shakes every day. I still won't be all that surprised if I actually DO end up shedding a bit -- it seems to be the norm for WLS. Every week I am surprised it hasn't started yet, and now lately I wonder if I might get through this without the thinning hair. I won't mind if it happens, because it will grow back. I obviously won't mind if it doesn't happen at all though! Only time will tell.....I figure if I get to my 7th month post surgery I'm in the clear.
  15. omg at that stage I was daydreaming about cottage cheese soooo much! You're going to begin really feeling what the sleeve is all about as far as restriction. My advice is to GO SLOW. Don't get too excited and eat a bunch at once, it will hurt! Good luck and enjoy the journey!
  16. I never had it before surgery. My surgeon's program calls for 3 months of prescription PPI after surgery. After 3 months the instructions are to stop the daily dose. Holy hell ! Did I experience a backlash when I stopped! To the point where it made me vomit. I spoke with my surgeon, and he said this happens to about 10% of patients. Per his recommendation, I am treating with an OTC as needed. H2 blockers can be used as needed - PPI's can be taken daily or if you know your triggers you can take them preventively as needed. I'm trying to take only as needed, but it seems to be almost every day. Good news is that the medicine does take care of it. Small price to pay imo, for all the many other benefits of getting this weight off!

    Recovery Question

There is a wide range of experiences, so it's hard to say. For me personally, I stayed one night only in the hospital but definitely needed someone to drive me home of course. I mostly slept for days and it was nice to have my family there to wake me up periodically and make sure I was staying hydrated and walking a bit every so often. Also it gave me peace of mind to know someone was there when i went to shower the first couple of days. But I mostly slept, so if no one had been there I would have been fine too I think. I never needed help walking around. BUT -- like I said everyone is different. If Kaiser makes you stay several days in hospital, you may be just fine once you are released to be on your own. If at all possible, ask your mom if she can be on "stand by" to come stay in case you feel like you need her to. It's like a lot of things with this journey : You simply won't know until you are there. Best of luck to you!
  19. Here's what I wonder about. There are people on this earth who are naturally thin, naturally eat like birds, always have & always will. Do they get harassed for what is on their plate or how much they eat of it? I find myself wondering that when I feel self conscious about my intake in public. I try to imagine that *I* am one of those naturally thin people with a small appetite, and I adopt that attitude so that if anyone messes with me I can deal with it in a way that conveys the proper amount of nonchalance -- the amount of nonchalance I imagine someone who has always been thin would have. LOL this I am sure will be more convincing once I am actually thin. But for now...I try to "create my own reality" and project the energy that say "Why yes, this IS what I am eating and what I want to eat, I find it odd that you concern yourself with it! And yes, the ONLY person (a coworker) who has EVER harassed me has been one of the handful of people who knows about the surgery. People who don't know just don't even notice what's on my plate. That's a big reason why I never told a bunch of people. WLS is not what defines me!
  20. But I must also say that once I was "accepted" into their bariatric program I was welcome to lose if I was able to presurgery. You should probably check with your surgepn for his requirements and guidelines.
  21. My insurance, as well as my surgeon, had a requirement of at least a 40 or at least a 35 with comorbidities.
  22. To add to the hormone thing -- you're only a little over a week out from a major surgery. Your body is recovering and your hormones are out of whack because of it. Think of it as PMS on overdrive. Be kind to yourself, and know that this will pass. Many, MANY of new sleevers experience the "buyer's remorse" phase. Just ride it out -- you WILL feel better!
  23. Like Red said above, i started way early weening off of caffeine so I could avoid the headaches of going cold turkey. I ordered some protein powders and got some small shot glass sized measuring cups. Got my gas x strips too. Other than that, i spent a LOT of time on VST reading as much as possible. So, even though everyone has a different experience, I knew the possibilities, and nothing that has happened has been too much of a surprise goodluck!
