Julie, you are utterly utterly gorgeous. You couldn't have picked a suit that suits you more. -
A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
insubordination replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hear ya. I have a flight in a couple of weeks and I've been trying very hard to take some weight off. Every little bit counts. Fortunately, it's only an hour or so, so I can do it. The tips above are great. When you check in, ask if you can be seated at the back of the plane (it's less likely to be full). Also, you MUST MUST get an aisle seat. Nothing else will do. I assume you meant 325 not 225. Hmmm you could actually fit. The point is not to panic too much. You'll just have to deal with it when it comes, you will get to Hawaii and you will get back again. Also, it's probably the last time you'll have to go through this, which is awesome. -
lo2us, I read on my dietician's sheet that it's good to mix textures/types of food so it can't clump up together. You've made a good discovery.
-
No Laura, my dietician and surgeon don't ban any food. They just encourage good choices. IMHO Good, whole carbs are fine. Strong words but I'm going to say it, I think anybody who tells you that you shouldn't eat fresh fruit is a quack. Don't forget that the Atkins thing is just a phase and it will make way for something else in the near future.

Yeah, you are.

With all the health issues you have, getting rid of obesity is the smartest thing you can do for yourself.

Good effort. You'll get there. WYD Congrats to on losing 40 pounds in August. Even better is committing to the exercise 6 days a week. I just joined a gym on Friday but I'm aiming for 4 days a week. So far, so good. One of my knees didn't like it but I can tell I'm not going to injure it. I'm just starting with the treadmill and bike and maybe the rowing machine next week. I just watch the video clips they play and time goes very quickly. Then my exercise is done and I'm happy. I also bought some hand weights and will try doing regular arm exercises (I'm seem to carry a lot of fat in my arms, which is really annoying). One thing I've noticed in the past few days is that my moody depression/despair schtick seems to have lifted. I want to do things on the weekend rather than stay at home and sleep a lot. I have my fingers crossed that I'm now on an 'up phase' instead of down. -
Holli, you are incredible. 60 pounds! You were banded at the end of June too, weren't you? Any tips? (Sidenote: I really hate the word pannus.)

Well, since this is a monthly challenge, I went to the Dr's on the last day of the month to weigh in. I did this because I was sure I'd reached Twoterville. I weighed in at 136.3 kilograms which is 300 pounds exactly. I was quite disappointed and wanted to be 299.9 or something. I weighed once more but it came up the same! The nurse couldn't understand why I was disappointed and I didn't bother explaining. If only I hadn't had that cup of coffee beforehand! I decided to find it funny rather than disappointing. I have done well this month and lost a lot of weight. I'll have something to look forward to this week anyway. Also, I joined a gym yesterday. I really think this thread has helped me a lot so far. I know I should be picking a goal for this month but I want to record this first. We are weight twins at the moment Jonathan, though I wouldn't dare compete with a male. Lady HR, that's an awesome NSV. I had to ask for a seat belt extender when I flew to Paris earlier this year. I wanted it to fit so much but it just wouldn't. It was embarrassing, there's not much privacy on a plane. JoJo, we're so glad you came out of lurkdom. Start posting! BeckieT - Great to hear from you again but my condolences. What a shock! I had an NSV today, I joined a gym! Just a couple of months ago I used to grin at all of you who went to a gym thinking, "that will never be me, I would never dare walk in". Then, over the past month or so, I started walking. I found that I committed to that (at least four days a week) but when it rained, my enthusiasm dropped off and I skipped a week. The local women's gym opening and closing hours didn't suit me so I when I got home from work today (7pm), I found myself calling, then joining a standard gym near my house. I just got back. I'm did 20 mins on the treadmill and 20mins on the stationary bike. I also walked for 30 mins at lunchtime, not knowing I'd join the gym this evening. That's all I can deal with for now but it's pretty darn impressive for me. It wasn't intimidating or anything like I'd imagined at all. I just went in there, asked them how to use the equipment, watched video clips and did my thing. The guy was very helpful and will start me on other stuff when I'm ready. Me, in a gym! who'd have thunk it? I weigh 300 pounds! I just figure that I can keep clinging to the overeating, chocolate-munching, chew and spit, anxiety-ridden, anti-social, non-exercising, depressed, negative fat me or I can start to claim the life I want to have. Let's just hope I stick with it. I paid for three months, so I'll see how I go. BTW, do any of you use a rowing machine? How does it affect your band? Our 3 month bandiversaries are coming up (or just passed for Toni). It has gone rather quickly, hasn't it? I'm so glad I'm here and not back at 3 months ago. Maybe we should all post photos at our 6 month (or before, if you're game). Paging HollieW, Captain D, BigSexy and all the others MIA (and I could recall all your names if I have to).

That's great Judy. Glad it was nothing serious. It's always worth going to check these things out. -
Vegetarian Post Op ?
insubordination replied to thebrick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a vegan rather than a vegetarian. I can eat all the same stuff I could pre-op, though not nearly as much. I can only take small bits of things now. Sometimes, I can't fit in as many raw vegies as I would like and I try to make the most nutrient dense choices. I'm surprised your nutritionist did not go into vegetarian options. How remiss! All my sheets mentioned meat alternatives & legumes. If you have any specific questions, please ask. There are quite a few vegos on here. Post-op liquid phase, I had different vegie Soups, strained. I put hommous in them for extra Protein. Later I made thicker soups like lentil and minestrone. I also had raw fruit and vegetable juices. Since you eat dairy, you will have options like yoghurt and whatnot. The main thing is that, later down the track, you will still be able to eat all the healthy types of food you like and will not die from protein deficiency. You can just eat about a third of the amount of food (or less) than you do now. By the way, I was banded a bit less than three months ago so am still learning but I have already lost 44pounds/20 kilos. I hope the other vegetarians come out of the woodwork. -
Stef, I love every post you make. The story hit a bit to close to home for me. I basically do everything that guy doesn't. Thinking positively would would be so hard (see!). Obviously, as doctor Phil would say, whining has a huge payoff for me. Band related stuff? I had to buy some new undwear today because mine were too loose and not staying up. Pretty funny. A point to ponder: Why are fat women's clothes so ugly? Like we don't suffer enough! Would all the lurkers start posting please? I'm dying to know how you're doing - good all bad. A thanks to the regulars too. I love your posts. I'm determined that we'll keep this thread going. June 2006 bandsters still have a thread, while all the other months seem to have faded. So you see, there's something about June.

Sliding hiatal hernia and lump in chest?
insubordination replied to luv2bingo07's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had the same type of hernia as you. An unusual one I gather. They didn't pick it up on the ultrasound pre-banding but I'm sure glad they fixed it while they were in the region. -
Great post Jonathan. 100 pounds! What an awesome loss for the month too. I'm pretty sure I'll have some good news of my own this Friday.
-
Way to go Suzzie! Rhonda, it will settle down. I find fills wear off a bit after a few days. My third was good for a couple of weeks but I notice that I've been able to eat more for the past couple (of days. We had some unseasonably warmer weather (it's still winter here) and I'm starting to speculate that outside temperatures affect the band (hence my not being able to eat as much in the early am or late at night but fine in the day). Oh yes. Herbal infusions or 'teas'. I have watermelon, nettle, chamomile, pepperment, strawberry & kiwi, peach and mango. You name it. He's bound to fine one he likes. I used to drink 8 or more coffees a day and several black (or green) teas. Now I have 1 coffee in the morning and herbal infusions the rest of the day.

Truly outstanding work Christine. You are a weight loss machine. I am trying to hit Twoterville by Friday. I think I'll make it.

Australian Bandsters Chat Thread
insubordination replied to susannah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Amanda, Heck no, wanting to be healthy is not a bad thing. You have to live in your body with that excess weight & pain, not him. I wish he wouldn't see it as such a big deal because it's truly not that bad. You can still go out to lunch and eat normal food etc. Hopefully, he'll come 'round. Congrats on getting the date. Follow through with it. BTW, I love your user ID. Congrats on getting a date. If it's really what you want, then you have to follow through with it. __________________ -

insubordination replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First, I'm going to say well done on the four pounds. For the unbanded, that's not bad. It's better than nothing, that's for sure. What else? Absolutely no salt, more exercise than usual and fewer calories (though I'm sure you're already doing that). Maybe you're just about to have a big jump down in wait. Just tell your doc how much you've been trying and that it's ToM. Drink eat very little the day of the follow-up. Do you have diabetes/thyroid issues or something else? Sometimes medical conditions can stop people losing weight. -
Muriel's Wedding is one of my favourite movies. Not to everyone's tast however.

Aussie Bansters Chat Thread Part 2

Wow! Congratulations. I've never in been in one of those shops. You must have been tickled pink. Well, I have size 12 feet and that will have to suffice for now. -
It's not the approach my psych takes but I get what he meant. I look at pictures of me when I was 6 and it makes me kind of sad about what I did to her.

Thanks for the pineapple juice tip. Keep posting, we want to hear from you. I have a 10ml band also. We probably have different bands (I have the Swedish Adjustable Gastric Band) but my first fill was 5.0 and my 2nd was 2.5. My third was 0.75. I got increasing restriction on all of those fills and now I wouldn't get another one for a while. Maybe tell the doctor that you have no restriction and that you would like more put in so it starts working. Don't worry about PBing BigSexy. It's just your band telling you to chew. I have done it three times already but I can tell I didn't damage anything.

insubordination replied to mermaidpuppy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Maybe he should only give the band to thin people. They are more serious about it after all.
