All from Perth
thesupportedhalf replied to thesupportedhalf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok it was crap, apparently WA has more gastric surgery than any other state here in Australia, warning people that they don't know enough about sleeves yet as it's only 8 yrs old. Apparently there are 2000 weight loss surgeries a year here in Wa and 1200 of them are sleeves, shame they didn't talk about bypass -
Day 5 post op
thesupportedhalf replied to thesupportedhalf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. Danny, just been stressing as I was sent home yesterday with this kind band drain and it fill up pretty quick, seems like all I did today was release the valve every couple of hours -
K so I came home from hospital yesterday with a drain attached to me side, no pipe just like a drain band aid. I have now drained it 3 times and it's still coming out. Anyone else this? Should I be concerned?

Scales are very dangerous and can really demotivate, my suggestion is take pictures once a month, front, side and back, you won't believe the difference your eyes see. On another note, on TV this morning they said that Thursday is the best day in the week to weigh and Monday is the worst due to possible bad eating over the weekend. Makes sense I guess

Omega loop gastric bypass Australia
thesupportedhalf replied to thesupportedhalf's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey fleabag, how did you go today -
Well so far so good, sitting in bed at the hospital on day 4. So far no pain, no nausea just tender across stomach(really bloated and bruised) hurts to breathe In deep. They have just taken the drain out and unfortunately last night they had to put the 2nd catheter. Doc has just removed it and advised that I can go just as soon as I pee, mmm not as easy as it sounds

1st morning after surgery feel fine, no pain, really thirsty and had to have a Cather . Looking forward lo leak test to I can get some fluids in -
I would say, with none of those symptoms you definitely wouldn't if hurt your sleeve , my guess is that you just have sore muscles, they have been through a lot a past couple of weeks

weight gain :(
thesupportedhalf replied to Lovely Lady's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
A suggestion to you, forget the scales, forget the measurements. Take photos every 4 weeks, front, back and side view. Trust me u will be shocked with the transformation. Try and get your partner or someone to take it with you in the same or similar underwear each time. It also sounds to me that you are not eating enough, your body could be holding in and storing. A females weight can vary +- 5lbs depending on hormones, periods etc. it's true muscle does weigh more than fat but saying that, a femAle could only gain 4-5lbs muscle in a whole year, and to be gaining muscle you would need to be eating a lot of food, mainly Protein. Scales lie, don't worry about it Paul -
Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy or Gastric Bypass for 100+ weight loss
thesupportedhalf replied to cindyvirden.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I had a sleeve done in Dec12 and am going in on the 29th May for a bypass due to my sleeve stretching and no restrictions. Normally doctors look at other health risks too and they decide which is the best option for you. I would say keep an open mind, study as much as you can on both and prepare for what the doctor might say, either way good luck -
Anyone else have May 27 surgery date?
thesupportedhalf replied to wilbskinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll jump in between you all, mine is on the 29th May, I'm having the omega loop gastric bypass, from a revised sleeve. Excited and nervous. Have been on pre op diet and have lost 3kgs so far, pretty happy with that -
Hi hope this helps #1 straws can create air pockets in your sleeve so best not to use them #2 sugar contains high calories and of course helps us put on weight easily. Excess sugar can create high insulin levels and diabetes- very high though. I wouldn't worry about thing like BBQ sauce though #3 if you don't have reflux when you don't take it, I wouldn't worry about it, but check with doctor 1st #4 sounds like you are doing perfect. - anything between 1/4 and 1/2 a cup #5 you can mix protein with what ever you like #6 always try real food before turning to bars, both real and better nutrients, your body will tell you if eggs and cheeses is enough, do you still feel hungry? Is the cheese low fat?

Weight gain after sleeve
thesupportedhalf replied to Circlegirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ok, so I was sleeved in December 2012, I followed everything exactly how it should of been, my diet was 100% spot on BUT I never ever felt restrictions never felt nausea never had dumping. My meals got bigger and bigger and started to eat what ever I wanted, I lost 50kgs and gained 50kgs. Went back to my surgeon who did swallow tests and blood tests to see why but just referred me to another surgeon. I did the cream rice test and stopped eating cause I wanted to not because I felt full. Surgeon said that although the sleeve was only 5 months old, it was like a sleeve of 12 months. I continued to put on weight. Now I am 1 week away from having an omega loop bypass and can't wait, I really hope this helps me change my life. Just to mention, it's really easy for people to say "do it on your own, you don't need surgery" well I am an ex personal trainer and studied nutrition, yes I know what I'm suppose to do but can't do it alone -
bipolar I and WLS.
thesupportedhalf replied to jtickle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am bipolar, I was sleeved in December 2012 and my medication never changed. I started pre op yesterday as I go in for an omega loop gastric bypass on 29th May. I too am feeling anxious, depressed and struggle to sleep. I have been advised that my medication won't change aft the bypass. I was also told that I cannot crush the tablets at all as they are time released for a reason -
for those that have had a revision from sleeve to bypass....
thesupportedhalf replied to itsmekarenlee's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My bypass I'd only taking place on 29th May but my sleeve was dec 2012, I can eat what ever I want with no restriction, I lost 50kgs and gained 50 kgs, since then I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, my health just keeps deteriating, my sleeve has without a doubt stretched, I drink about 4 Pepsi max a day, I still believe it is all my own doing though -
Well the time has come, pre op diet starts tomorrow for 2 weeks, surgery is on 29th May. This is a sleeve revised to Omega loop Bypass (otherwise none as mini gastric bypass). The emotions have kicked in and started to feel very nervous.
