I agree with JenC. I'm 12 weeks out and started eating salads at 10 weeks, not sooner, because I wanted to focus on getting my protein in for optimal weight loss. I usually have chef's salad because of the meat, cheese, and egg. However; I can't eat alot, and within two hours of eating salad, I get hungry again. So like JenC said, get your protein in first, then treat yourself to salad. Good luck.

what is the best birth control method
mommyradd replied to Yiraini01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My cousin is fertile Myrtle. She had three kids one after another. She then got an IUD and didn't get preggers for 8 years. She re-married and had it removed. She's pregnant for the second time in 2 years! I just use ugly pajamas:) -
I remember that feeling! Congratulations!

Don't know what to do...
mommyradd replied to EllaJo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, drop the carbs. It will be very difficult to lose weight eating carbs. Why not start a protein based diet now, since that's what you will have to do after surgery? Before my surgery, I made a choice to drop three things that were bad for me, and it helped kick start my weight loss. I gave up soda, chips/fries/potatoes, and rice. Maybe start there? Whatever you decide, I wish you luck. You are not alone. -
Surgery date was 1/22/13 and I have only lost 16 pounds
mommyradd replied to bex6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bex: You can do this. If you are not already doing so, just limit yourself to 2 ounces of protein rich foods at a time, no more. Be sure to get in all 64 ounces of water or sugar free fluids. Limit your calorie intake, as well. Mine is around 800. I too, am a slow loser and have a low BMI. However; I have not had foods that aren't in my doctor's plan, and no matter how slow my weight has come off compared to others, I have not stopped trying. I had a long stall, and then ten pounds came off in 10 days! If I can do it, anyone can:) Good luck to you! -
protein drinks and drinking around them

I can't even fit any water or other fluids in after drinking my protein shake. So I wait 30 to 45 minutes before drinking anything else. -
Opinions Needed: Back from Vacation, Down 10 lbs!
mommyradd posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay guys so I need to share this. I had been in a stall for about a month. I stayed true to my diet. Recorded everything I consumed every single day. Almost always got in my 70-80 grams of protein and 64 oz. of fluids. Never eating more than 2 oz at a time.Treadmill 3 times a week. I go to Hawaii for 10 days, and record nothing, still stay true to my diet as much as possible, but don't know if I got in the protein most days, and definitely not all the fluids. I did still take one shake a day, but I ate less while on vacation. The only thing I decreased substantially was my iced tea intake. I have 32 oz. at home everyday. I only drank tea two times in ten days. All this to say that when I came home, I was 10 lbs. lighter! SO now I'm trying to figure out if it was coincidence, not being on such a strict regimen, decreasing the iced tea, eating food instead of two shakes a day??? I need to figure it out so I can keep it going. I'm happy but also a bit confused because it seems like when I was doing everything right, the scale didn't move, and when I have no way of measuring or eating in the right intervals, I lose 10 pounds? Any thoughts on why the sudden loss? -

Simple: I am trying to cut back on jerky, too. Just another thing to give up:( Delta: I've heard of some negative comments regarding splenda. I can't do honey because I'm a diabetic, however; I'm going to take your suggestion to heart regarding the other sweetener, thanks! -
I'm 11 weeks out, and I have been where you are. I made a similar post, sick of food, and getting most of my protein from shakes, too. I was told by many members here that it is a phase that will pass. It took a month, but now I am over my lack of desire for food. It is not as I remember it, but I can enjoy a tiny meal now without feeling like it's a waste of time and space! Hang in there. Get your fluids and protein in, and you will succeed:)

How much can you eat at 3 weeks?
mommyradd replied to dgryan74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Richard. I didn't feel full until about 4 weeks out and on regular foods. Soups and yogurts and such, aren't very filling, so be sure to measure as to not over eat. I am 11 weeks out and still eating 2 ounces at a time, about 6 times a day. Stick to your program, and you will be successful. Good luck! -

Thanks for your input ladies! I drink caffeinated tea with Splenda. I was a Diet Pepsi addict prior to surgery, so I needed to have something with caffeine to ease the loss of my soda. I read that caffeine makes you retain water, but I don't know if it's a significant amount. I also have beef jerky a few times a week, and I did on my trip, as well. I know it has a lot of sodium, but it didn't seem to affect my weight loss. My issue now is that I really don't want to give up my tea, but if that's the factor that helped me lose those 10 pounds, then I guess I will have to, or at least cut down....Oh, and I am 11 weeks out today. -
Sleeved with a toddler?
mommyradd replied to DreamsOfSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 2 little ones in diapers, and I was sleeved in November. I had to change diapers, but did it on the couch because I didn't want to lift them on the changing table. Almost every other mommy task that I had to do was no different than before surgery. Be sure to rest and not lift heavy things. Also, if there are toys all over, leave them alone, and dad can help baby clean when he gets home. I did bend a lot to clean up after the kids, and it made my incision sore. If you must get help, try CARE (online). I interviewed several people and found two good sitters for date nights. Good luck. -

Gastic Sleeve Advantages / Disadvantages
mommyradd replied to Losing weight's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for sharing this. For me, I have no regrets. I decided to get the sleeve once and for all, after watching my 67 year old mother-in-law chasing my 3 kiddos around my house. That was something I could not do. At 8 weeks out, now I am chasing my kiddos, and not panting while doing it. At only 8 weeks out, I can only imagine all the things I will be able to do a year from now:) I am so happy and full of hope! -
I'm eight weeks out, and my doctor has me eating 6 meals a day (every 2-3 hours) and drinking my 64 oz. in between. I always measure my food, and try to never eat more than 2 ounces per meal, as that is the limit that I was told to eat. My sleeve is suppose to only hold 2 ounces of food at once. I also replace meals with shakes, as I need to get in all my protein. My doctor said I can drink much more in a sitting than I can eat, so it is dual purpose for me. I get in more protein and it counts towards my fluid intake. I am adding a cup of non-fat milk to my shakes. This gives me more protein (31 grams), and I can drink the whole 18 ounces in an hour, because it's not so heavy. It's much thinner and goes down much easier with the added milk. If you can get all your protein in without shakes, more power to you! I can't, with eating 2 ounces of food per meal. I would be eating all day long just to get in the 70-80 grams of protein that I need, plus the fluids! When I'm farther along and can have a 1/2 cup of food at once, then I will decrease my shakes. Good luck friend!

I agree, the peanut butter was probably too heavy on you. The spit or "slimes" is a result of forcing too much in your sleeve. I've done it myself! We need to eat no more than 2 ounces at mealtime total, and if it's a heavy or new food, wait a while before eating, to make sure it sits well. If you have any cues from your body, mine is a feeling like something is stuck in my throat, stop eating , even if you haven't finished the 2 ounces. On a positive note, that feeling you have will pass within the hour. Just try to relax, and sit up. Good luck from a fellow rookie sleever!

Like all doctors orders are different, so are our tolerances. My doctor told me yes at 4 weeks, and I eat it just fine. You won't know 'til you try:) Good luck.

Thanks OTR and Kali. I've been aiming for 70-80 for the past three weeks, and you're right on target with your advice.

So when is it .6 and when is it .8? Dumb question??

Hey Guys: Eight weeks out on Tuesday and sI tarted using the treadmill last week. Good news, my hubby is doing it with me, and that motivates me to do it. Bad news, I am having a really hard time with it. It's hard for me to even get myself to do it because I remember how hard it was the last time. Right now we are doing one mile, 5 days a week. I have an incline of 3, and I walk for 4 minutes at 2.2, and run for a minute at 3.0 My heart rate gets to over 150, but by the time I'm halfway through (takes me 27 minutes to complete the mile with the walk-run intervals), I'm feeling like a 90 year old woman! I'm really embarrassed, as I know the speed is so slow to begin with, and it feels like I'm not doing enough. I'm so out of shape! I'm 5'1 and weigh about 177 right now, but I run like someone quite heavier. Yesterday I even did 3 minutes walking and 1 minute running, not because I felt like I could do it, but just to get it over with sooner. How long before it gets easier?

Problem: Can eat, but don't want to. Help:-
mommyradd posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone: I am just over 8 weeks out. I had hit a long stall, added treadmill last week, and the scale finally moved again. Been trying to get in 70-80 grams of protein and 64 ounces of water or sugar free drinks on a daily basis. Here lies the problem. I can eat. I just don't have the desire. I read how people miss certain foods or eat a little of foods they love, but that has not been my experience. I can eat regular food now, but it just doesn't taste like I remember it. Also, having such a small portion (2 ounces) satisfies me, but it's not enjoyable, per say. I do it because I have to. Drinking is fine, but I feel so bloated trying to get in all my fluids and the protein, that I really wish I could just eat once or twice a day when I get stomach pains, as oppossed to every few hours, and cut my water in half. Can I still lose the weight if I cut my food intake and just concentrate on the fluids? I can't even tolerate the protein drinks anymore. They feel so heavy. I love the results of my sleeve, but I feel like I will never like food again. Any reply is appreciated.
