Eating out after Gastric bypass surgery
MsBrown76 replied to Darktowerdream's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I made the same choice after I was sleeved in 2012 absolutions no buffets it’s truly a waste of money for me. If it’s any other restaurant I just ask for a two go box upfront and keep on the plate the amount I may eat. Sometimes I’m adding that to the box. The other option is to meal share. Some places charge for doing so, but most do not. With having bypass 11/21 I’ll be incorporating the same practice. -
Urgent Message - Spam
MsBrown76 replied to James Marusek's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Great information James! I would add one more important warning ⚠️ Never ⚠️ give your personal information/username or password to anyone especially if you’ve clicked on one of those links. Go directly to the website you’re looking for by typing in the information yourself looking for the ‘https’ in the browser window to know it’s a secure sight. Most spam site do not have the ‘s’ at the end. Also ⚠️ Never ⚠️ provide hours banking information on a site if you clicked through a link embedded in a message. Err on the side of caution and type in the actual website for yourself. -
Update and question...oh the pain
MsBrown76 replied to MsBrown76's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@FluffyChix my thought too why the decompression??? Thankfully it’s a small amount of fluid I’m hoping all that has cleared. @AZhiker great information but I’ll pass on anything that’ll possibly make me aspirate. That’s part of the reason I needed to have the surgery the GERD caused a lot of aspirating in my sleep quite often any given week. @always I’m definitely familiar with mineral oil my mom tried to give it to me as a kid or castor oil but it never made it down before I’d spit it back up. I am definitely doing the spirometer more often. -

Additional notes: Gastric bypass changes are noted. Several loops of small bowel appear decompressed in the mid to left hemiabdomen. There are additional gas-filled loops of mildly edematous small bowel left hemiabdomen. Moderate amount retained fecal material is noted through the colon. There is a small amount of free fluid in the pelvis. No free air is demonstrated. -

Nope no at all. Here’s the impression from the CT: 1.Noting some decompressed loops of small bowel and gaseous distention of the adjacent nondependent small bowel, postoperative ileus is favored over partial small bowel obstruction. Follow-up is suggested. 2. Gastric bypass changes and a small amount of free fluid in the pelvis without evidence for free air. 3. Small dependent right pleural effusion. -

@FluffyChix it’s a relief to know I’m not the only one who experienced illeus I was beginning to wonder if the pain was all in my head. It is brutal!!! The ER prescribed polyethylene glycol and that’s what I’ve been taking as a laxative. I never heard of pyridium I’ll check with my doc on that. To scared to try anything that I’ll make things worse. @GreenTealael it’s been 12 days since my last bowel movement and my stomach is hard as a rock. I’ll definitely stay on top of this I need pain relief and for things to function properly. -
Liquids stay down now fever or any other symptoms just pain.

I’m five days post-op RNY and today it feels like my insides are being ripped apart. I’ve barely been able to get liquids in today I feel full. I do sip and sip slowly. I took two pain pills about an hour and a half ago pain has subsided some, but I’m still hurting. Is this because I’m too full, sat wrong? My stomach is hard and i made sure my binder is not too tight. I haven’t had a BM since the day before surgery. I’m taking stool softeners as directed by my physician. I’m passing gas and burping especially when I walk. I’m not sure what this may be or what to do.
-
I’ve already put in a call to my doctor just waiting for a call back. My stomach is tighter than normal and the pain is pretty much all over but primarily in the upper abdominal region as a sharp shooting or squeezing pain. I feel it move into my chest a time or two. If I move to get out of bed and/or begin to walk I get nauseated. I call it the slimes it’s just clear saliva that I spit out.

Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
MsBrown76 replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Today is my sleeve to bypass day. I was sleeved 11/12/2012, and it has been successful I lost 150lbs and kept it off (HW 364, LW 205, MW 216-221). However, the GERD has been horrible!!! Waking up aspirating into my lungs in my sleep feeling like I’m dying because I can’t catch my breath and coughing is horrible. Plus I have a hiatal hernia and developed Hypercontractile Peristalsis (Jackhammer Esophagus), SLE (gained 15 being on prednisone for a year) Sjogrens, and PMR (no one else in my family has had any of this). I love my sleeve never considered the RNY before my sleeve. However, the RNY makes me nervous it’s a nagging feeling I’ve had for awhile. My doctor is regarded as one of the top three in my state. I’ve been discussing this with him for two years. Honestly, my concerns are I don’t want anymore health problems. I guess I dunno I want relief but the feeling is still there!!! Send up some extra prayers for me. Check-in is 10am CST Surgery is at noon CST. Starting weight 235 Preop weight 241 (ate everything I could lol) CW: 227. -
@jdodson74 thank you disappointing I thought they would work 🥴 @NancyLF I love those better than the multicolored popsicles.

How did you tell your little kids about WLS?
MsBrown76 replied to ColoradoCanuck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be honest with what’s going on let them see what you’ll be required to do. The 13yo can become your helper to keep you on track. You will need the extra hugs and support. -
What are you doing before your surgery?
MsBrown76 replied to JRT Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate every damn thing I possibly could that I knew I’d be missing. Which wasn’t much I was sleeved in 2012 and getting ready for bypass next week. But I put a dent in my list prior to my previous op phase starting lol. Enjoy -

Over this preop diet
MsBrown76 replied to Emily Jane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m cranky I’m on day 6 of pre op diet and I’m so burned out on broth I could scream lol. -
I’m having gastric bypass on 11/21 and I’m nervous because of all the health issues I’ve developed since being sleeved 7 years ago (kept weight off), but now the GERD and hernia are prompting this surgery. Best wishes to you!!

It's definitely possible or depends on whether or not you're in pain, and the type of work you're doing (standing/bending etc). I had my surgery in 2012 and it was a couple of days before Thanksgiving, and I went Black Friday shopping for a few must have items. The key was I prepared myself with a half a pain pill, my liquids etc. without bending or lifting. I didn't have a lot of pain after the third day; I had a sleeve. Check with your doctor and maybe see about doing a half day the first day or two. Good luck

Why do we fall off the wagon? & How to get back on?
MsBrown76 replied to bostonmama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So far so good on day two of my five day pouch reset. My pouch still works thank God! After talking with others who've had WLS I was eating too many slider foods so I was able to eat more never feeling full. Plus nibbling every few minutes thereafter to eat more. In addition to trying to drink liquids with meals (hurts) but needed to help the food go down (that's how I justified it). My fear of my pouch not working drove me towards slider foods as comfort. While my husband is supportive of me he couldn't help me understand what I was fully doing. I'm thankful to this community for giving me the unedited version of what I needed to hear, and how to get back on track. Started reset 7/17 at 5am at 242lbs by 9pm 238lbs. As of 6am today 236lbs water weight I'm sure, but I'm in progress to getting back on track. Goal 216 -
