My BMI was just over 35. I decided I wasn't going to wait until it was 40! My insurance would not cover it but I had made up my mind to do it. We make payments on cars, so, why not me. I attended an afternoon seminar, a psych consult (descovered I have an IQ of 133!), a consult with a nutritionist and then the doc would see me. I investigated the surgery options, docs, hospitals and decided on the sleeve!
The doc ok'ed me for only 9 days of the protein shakes before the surgery. I had a reunion with girlfriends and would get back into town with only 9 days before my surgery. It was just before thanksgiving but I had enough of the holiday, specail occasion, company excuse of hanging onto my weight. I was so exhausted with being fat.
The day I went in for the surgery I recall after being preped and taken into the operating room hearing the anesthesiologist comment on my BMI and whether it was a number worth having the surgery and then I was out. I wanted to scream at him YES...36 and I am not waiting another moment and gaining another pound.
Everything I read and everyone that I spoke to talked about all the difficulties with the surgery; vomiting, stomach pains, intolerence of certain foods. I was ready and willing to sacrifice.

I had the surgery 11/7/12 and left the hospital on 11/8/12. By day three I was eating chopped chicken, as well as yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna...
It has been 12 weeks and I am down 63 pounds. I have followed the diet my doc gave me completely! No hair loss, no vomiting, so soreness at the surgical sites and no regrets! My BMI is now 26.45. In 11 pounds I will be at a healthy BMI level. I feel great.

I have 5 children aging from 8 to 24 and I plan on being an active and healthy mom and grandma for a very long time!

I could say I wish I had the surgery a long time ago, but, now is my time!
