I believe the problem with gulping is supposed to be the amount of air that tends to be brought in when you gulp. So I should have said that it is a good thing if you are able to drink fast without gulping, I believe if you are gulping and getting to much air in you will feel it pretty quickly but you should definitely be cognizant of it.

Is the sleeve really right for me?
Richard Foor replied to redone's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would definitely get a second opinion from another surgeon. That being said if the surgeons say that your particular condition requires changes in absorption, then the bypass is probably what you need because the rerouting of the intestines changes the absorption, whereas with the sleeve there is no change to absorption since the pyloric sphincter is left intact and the stomach still works in the usual fashion. Good Luck. -
No that is a good thing, the problem some people have drinking fast is due to the swelling in the stomach and esophagus after surgery, if you can drink fast already that means the swelling has gone down. I personally was able to drink fast early on, and am now at 8 months post op able to drink 128 oz of water a day without problem. Remember that liquids run through the pyloric sphincter and into the intestines so are not limited by the size of your stomach. Good Luck.

As they say think of it as a journey and not a race, slow and steady and enjoy the scenery along the way.

Yes it is perfectly normal. Stay positive, your body will adjust and the weight loss will start again. You might want to try tracking measurements, sometimes when the scale isn't moving you will notice changes in your sizes. Stay positive, stay on your plan and everything will be fine. Good Luck.

That's different, have you actually tried it yet, I would be curious just how well it actually works. I personally can't stand plain water, so I tend to use a lot of different MIO style flavorings.

As with so many things I think this will vary by the person. I personally can eat fast without upsetting my stomach, although I have to be very careful not to eat to much when I do that. But, I know a lot of people who have had problems with getting nauseated when they eat fast. So my advice is to stick with what works for you. Good Luck.

At this stage you really do not need to be worrying about the calories, or fats. you need to make sure you are getting enough protein, I have always stuck with greater then 70 but opinions vary. Also make sure you are getting at least 64 oz of non caffeinated fluids. If you drink any caffeine you need to increase your fluids accordingly. As for carbs I wouldn't worry so much about a number on them as of yet but just try to make good choices that are low in carb numbers. Good Luck.

Depressed, disappointed, regretful...
Richard Foor replied to July23sleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What your going through is perfectly normal, and many people on here have gone through it, it does get easier, and then before you know it you'll be feeling better then you ever had and thinking it was the best decision you ever made. Good Luck. -
Help please, can't get protein, food intolerances
Richard Foor replied to Sleeveland's topic in Food and Nutrition
That does become a challenge. Now I personally was only told 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after so it wasn't as bad. Now I have been able to drink my water relatively quickly for most of my time so that also helped. Now I find that I can do better getting my water drank fast enough if I use some form a flavoring like MIO. I am 8 months post op and I currently drink 128 oz a day, I use 32 oz bottles to drink from and can drink them in a single sitting over a little more then a half hour. Good Luck. -

Richard Foor replied to Bellanthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Perfectly normal, just focus on why you are doing it, and how good you will feel when you have lost the weight. Good Luck, enjoy the journey, it's not always easy but it is worth it. -
Shortness of Breath
Richard Foor replied to AmyInOrlando's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is perfectly normal at this phase, your body went through a lot and will need to recover. When you first start being active again it takes a lot out of you but every time gets a little easier, then before you know it you will have more energy then you've ever had before. Good Luck, enjoy the journey. -
Stall! How to overcome?
Richard Foor replied to need2bthin!'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have to agree with Clk, it is way to easy to get obsessed when the weight loss slows or stops and start messing with things and end up making it worse. I am 8 month out and down 142 lbs, I have had several short "stalls" but I just stuck to the my routine and the loss always starts back up. It is sometimes good to check your measurements also, sometimes when the scale isn't moving you are losing inches and may not even notice because your worried about that dam scale. Good Luck, enjoy the journey it's not always easy but if you follow the plan it just gets better as time goes by. -
Help please, can't get protein, food intolerances
Richard Foor replied to Sleeveland's topic in Food and Nutrition
You should probably be trying to get your protein from meats and fishes. If your not quite ready for dense proteins yet I would recommend canned meats, like tuna, chicken, underwood roast beef spread. I used these to transition to eating regular meats. I believe it is healthier to get your protein from regular foods anyhow. Good Luck. -

It is very easy to get lost and start to feel the need to eat things that may not be very good for you. As your body is adjusting to the changes it is going through your emotions will run rampant. The biggest concern with eating any type of raw noodle would be that when it gets in your stomach and mixes with the fluids in there it will expand, this is bad because when you are eating it you won't feel full right away and may eat to much, then when it expands at the early stage you are in it could reopen your sutures causing a leak. After a couple more months you will be able to eat them if you want to, because once your sutures are healed it would just cause discomfort but not cause damage if you ate to much. At this point you should try to find better choices of Snacks. Good Luck. You know everyone has different tastes in foods they like, sometimes it is easy to cue in on your personal opinion of someone else's snack choice and miss the real question they are asking. I believe everyone on this forum does try to be helpful but sometimes we all need to focus a little better on the question at hand.

I had that for about 5 days post op, it does come from the build up of air in your stomach from surgery, walking and sitting upright helps to work it out faster. But the good news is it will go away before to long. Good Luck, enjoy the journey.

History of Sleeve Gastrectomy
Richard Foor replied to mistysj's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Very informative. Thanks. -
make sure you are getting enough water, dehydration will give you those feelings. If you are eating the stuff you list you should be getting enough protein so I was definitely suspect dehydration. Good Luck.
