CLOTHES, CLOTHES, CLOTHES
Richard Foor replied to pjackson0523's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a paramedic and have to wear uniforms, unfortunately the uniform pants we wear cost at minimum $40 a pair which really sucks. Luckily i have been doing this job for 23 years and had bins of old uniform pants i had outgrown over the years in the basement which worked for the first couple of months, now for the last couple months i have been having to buy new pants about every month fortunately since they are uniform i can get away with buying just 1 pair and washing them every day, and i keep the pair 1 size above for if i have incidents that i need a clean pair in a hurry for. As for everyday clothes though i actually am loving the fact that i can buy clothes on sale anywhere, which is so much nicer then before when i couldn't even find my size without ordering and paying top dollar for. -
1 month post op..need suggestions!
Richard Foor replied to wannabaloser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I very rarely eat the buns or any bread products for that matter, but I do not have any problems with them when I do eat them, now I was probably 6 months post op before I ate any bread on any kind. As I said I don't eat the buns but for the kids i buy just plain dinner rolls that when cut in half the sliders fit on perfect. Also, the Giant Eagle sales slider rolls in the bakery. If I want to eat them on bread i usually will use half a Joseph's brand flat bread, or a Arnold's brand Sandwich Thin. -
When I got to solid foods is when I started tracking everything, from that point until about 8 months out I was eating between 700 and 900 calories a day and between 70 and 90 grams of protein, less then 50 carbs usually less then 20. I also was drinking about 96 oz of water at that point which I then upped to 128 oz at about 3 months out. Now at 9 months out I eat between 900 and 1200 calories, between 120 and 140 grams of protein, around 30 carbs and still drink 128 oz. Good Luck.

I had started doing light cardio in the gym at 3 weeks post op, and then started light strength training at 1 month and have worked up since then. Good Luck.

I had the surgery at 379 and am currently 9 months out and down to 227, that's 152 pound loss, I will tell you I feel much better then I ever have and think this was the best decision I ever made in my life. It hasn't always been easy but well worth it.

2 weeks post today!
Richard Foor replied to DanielleSleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you should already be trying to walk as much as much as possible. At about 3 weeks I was released to start some cardio at the gym I did the stationary bike and the elliptical. After about 1 month I started strength training at the gym, started off light and worked my way up. Good Luck. -
1 month post op..need suggestions!

I eat a lot of Turkey burgers in different formats, some premade like Butterball's and ALDI fit and active. But I also like to make Turkey burger sliders because they are the perfect size for me and also my kids love them because they are cool. I use 1 lb ground turkey and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, and then add seasonings to taste and make 13 sliders from that they are about 90 calories and 11 grams of protein per slider. Good Luck. -
when will i be able to swallow without getting Chocked
Richard Foor replied to DeeSleeve13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It sounds like you should call your surgeon so they can do an endoscopy(tube with camera down throat) and check for a stricture or some other obstruction causing the problem, if they find something a lot of times I believe they can fix them right away and make things better. Also, as was also stated above make sure you are not eating to fast. Good Luck. -
7 Days tomorrow...cottage cheese and eggs!
Richard Foor replied to KCSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just try to take it slow, I know it's not easy when you are so ready to eat something solid but till you get the hang of how to eat at the proper rate and quantity it is really easy to make yourself miserable. Good Luck. -
Even though your pre op you should first suspect the usual suspects, dehydration and not enough protein. If you are prepping for surgery you have probably started assisting your eating habits even if you don't realize it. Do make sure you are getting a minimum of 60oz water a day and a minimum of 70 grams protein. And if course get the mri to be safe. Good luck.
-
You could try mixing your protein powder with more water so that it is not so thick. Also, you might want to try some of the premix shakes, some people find they taste better. Good Luck.

Lots of protein and supplies today!
Richard Foor replied to lawree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My biggest suggestion is not to buy a whole lot of anything while you are preop, many people find there tastes change after the surgery and therefore if you buy a whole lot of something before hand you may be stuck with something you can't stand post op. good Luck, enjoy the journey. -
Personally I don't eat more calories after my excersise, I try to stay at the same 900 calories a day regardless, now when I get done losing weight and start maintenance that may have to change but for now I figure if I can function on the the amount I take in every day why increase it, the more I burn off the better the weight loss should be. Good Luck.

Fell off track during the holidays....
Richard Foor replied to MRWILLIA6871's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
People are not defined by the mistakes they make but by the way they recover from those mistakes. You have obviously accepted what you did now get back on track and you will be fine. I don't believe anyone should deny themselves everything they like you just need to be able to deal with it and adjust to make up for reading the things you like sometimes. -
As with many things everyone is different in this aspect. That being said it took me about 2 weeks to get to the point that I could function for a while day without feeling totally exhausted. And probably about 2 to 3 months till I got back to my old level of energy. Of course now at 9 months I have more energy then I have since I was a teenager. It is very important to get your water and protein as soon as possible so you can heal quickly and get back to normal. Good luck.

GRRRRR - So frustrated!
Richard Foor replied to Pangur's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone heals at different rates. Therefore it takes a different amount of timefor everyone to transition through different foods. But stock with it keep trying things every so often and before you know it you will be reading whatever you want. Good luck. -
Depending on how large the pill is, and weather it can be crushed this may not be the case. The best bet is to discuss it with the dr who prescribes the anti depression med and see what your options are. Also it should be noted that some people have no problems at all swallowing pills as soon as a couple days post op, I personally as well as many others I have read about where taking ppi's within a week postop, so as long as the med isn't going to effect the healing of your stomach lining you may not have to go very long until you can take it. Good Luck.

Post op with kids
Richard Foor replied to rocknrollmama1980's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My youngest was 5 when I had my surgery so it was a little easier since I just told her I couldn't pick her up for a while, but her biggest problem with it was that before I had surgery she used to climb on my back while I was sleeping in the middle of the night, she said it was the most comfortable place to sleep, lol. But she managed, and actually doesn't due it anymore since she went without for so long. But back to the point, Remember that though you can't pick your child up postop, if you sit in a chair you can hold them on your lap since your not really holding there weight that way, that should help with appeasing them of the need to be held. Remember for the first couple weeks you may not have very much energy at all so you should make sure you have someone to help you care for your children. Good Luck. -
Need to loose ten pounds
Richard Foor replied to rocknrollmama1980's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your problem is night time snacking and you are preop you might want to try getting some casein protein to drink in the evening, it forms a gel in your stomach which helps fill you up. I recently started using it since the old night time snack urges were starting to return. Now for those who are post op you shouldn't use casein until you are at 6 to 7 months out since the expansion can cause problems in your sleeve when it's not fully healed, but after that time it really is quite helpful. Good Luck. -
I'm afraid that psych eval will deny me
Richard Foor replied to ArnoldS's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Based on what she is asking for it sounds like she might just be making sure to have the proper documentation that your previous issues were successfully handled. It is probably just a way to make sure the insurance company doesn't flag you for your history. So just get the reports she asked for and work with her to get the approval. The people that do these exams don't want you to fail they just want to make sure you are properly equipped to handle what is coming post op. Good luck. -
6 weeks out and hungry
Richard Foor replied to faifie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Odds are if you would get enough protein you wouldn't feel hungry. Good Luck. -
You probably won't feel restriction until you get to solid foods. You should figure out a portion size that satisfies you. I never eat too feel full that was my mistake before surgery, now I measure my portions out and just east to be satisfied. Good luck

Mine took about an hour and a half but I did have a hiatal hernia they fixed. Good Luck.
-
Yes you should definitely call your Dr. or if the pain is to bad go to the ER. It could be nothing but on the other hand it could be a serious problem and it just isn't worth taking a chance. Good Luck.
