Scaring the crap out of me!
Richard Foor replied to ThinnerTiff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a paramedic and a couple things come to mind. It could be related to blood sugar so your dr will probably want to check that. it could be dehydration related so make sure you are getting your proper amounts of fluids in. This act of passing out was very possible cause by stimulation to vagus nerve caused by the dry heaving, this is a common cause of syncope(fainting). Hope this information is helpful and good luck. -
Vyvanse as with most add meds does not use a weight based dosage system so weight loss should not be the factor. I did find this article(http://www.medicine.virginia.edu/clinical/departments/medicine/divisions/digestive-health/nutrition-support-team/nutrition-articles/Chan_Part2_Article.pdf) discussing the effect of wls on medication absorption which seems to indicate that some meds are absorbed slower after wls which might account for the change in how the med is working for you since these meds are normally time released anyhow. Hope this is helpful and good luck.

Is this normal :/
Richard Foor replied to busymommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The wait gained in the hospital is usually more from the IV fluid they pump into you especially if you don't have a lot of urinary output. It will then take several days for your body to use or purge that excess fluid, then you should she a drastic decrease then loss will go to a more normal pattern. -
The thing about ketosis and ketones which is the stuff you can smell is that not everyone can smell ketones. I am a paramedic and we were taught that when you smell ketones on someone who is a diabetic it is a sign they are acidotic but unfortunately not everyones nose can detect them. So that is why some people when they are in ketosis detect the smell and others can't.

Anyone else binge before they had surgery?
Richard Foor replied to Didit12262012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did that right before starting my preop liquid diet. The Dr's say it's not good and some will say if you can't have that willpower before surgery what will happen after. But I know that helped me to be able to better stay true to the preop diet and now that I am 5 days out I don't have any desire to eat anything. -
I'm also up from the fluids so far haven't peed much out, hoping it will go down quick after the fluid starts coming out.

I was also on Monday, and have had the pressure, my surgeon said it is from the air that is still built up in the stomach and that keeping moving will lessen that.

I've Made The Decision, How Long Is The Wait?
Richard Foor replied to lynettestarr's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wait times vary depending on your insurance company and BMI. I have UPMC insurance and since I have a BMI over 55 I didn't have to do the 6 months supervised diet. If my BMI had been lower then 55 I would have had to either do 6 months of medically supervised Diet or show records of having been dieting for a specified amount of time with regular appointments with my PCP. Remember if you have to do the 6 months supervised diet it should still help you to start losing weight at least as good as going on Atkin's or something would plus leads you to be able to get the surgery when you get to that point. The surgery is what usually helps people to be able to keep that weight off instead of just putting it back on like usually happens after dieting. Good Luck. -
My Daughter Will Miss My Belly But Wants To Keep Me Longer
Richard Foor posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, my names Rick, i'm 40 years old and have 2 wonderful kids a 10 year old boy and a 5 year old girl. I weigh 370 lbs and am 5'5" tall. I am a professional Paramedic/Supervisor. When my wife of 12 years left me in April, I kept the kids because I am better at taking care of them then she ever was, I started thinking of what would happen to my kids if I died from health problems related to my weight, and I decided I can't take that chance anymore so I decided it was time to do what was necessary. I am scheduled for sleeve surgery on December 10. My daughter loves to hug my big belly but we talked and she says she will be OK with me getting rid of my belly if it means she can keep me longer, and I will be able to play with her more. I think kids are the best motivator in the world.
