Low Carb Slim Fast Versus Unjury?
Richard Foor replied to determined4's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
During the liquid phases it is more important to find something you can tolerate then anything else. Also since a lot of people have there tastes in protein supplements change after surgery you might not want to buy to much of anything till after when you can figure out what you like. Good Luck. -
Wife isn't supportive
Richard Foor replied to Harpo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My wife was unsupportive at first, but I told her that my mind was made up and I was going through with it because it is what I needed to do. She stopped giving me a hard time, and post op since things have gone well and I am feeling better then I have in years she now says she is glad I didn't let her talk me out of it because it was obviously the right choice. Also you should tell your wife that it won't be more work for her because post op you will need to plan your own meals to ensure you are getting all your proper nutrient ranges. Good luck -
Just had my Nutritional Seminar...
Richard Foor replied to petra1124's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's only silly if it doesn't work. I had a hard time slowing my pace when eating, I am a paramedic and we frequently don't get to finish a meal when we start so we mostly eat very fast, It still takes all my effort to eat slow especially while at work, The main thing I find helps is to put the silverware down after every bite it gives me something to focus on remembering to put it down. Good Luck. -
Pale skin is one of the symptoms of low iron levels. Here is a link to a website listing the easily recognizable symptoms: http://symptomslowiron.com/

Slime or the slimes is when you spit up a thick mucous, can come in various colors depending on what you've been eating. It can be caused by eating or drinking to much or to fast. -

Well you know it can't keep up so it will get better. I have read some people who say sometimes upping your calories or protein can help break a stall but I don't personally know. Good Luck.

Can I drink coffee with caffeine?
Richard Foor replied to Iweeny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As with most things it differs with every surgeon. My surgeon had no restrictions on caffeine for that matter I was given caffeinated coffee in the hospital the day after my surgery and have drank at least 1 cup every day since. They say it will effect you more after surgery, but I have never had any problem with caffeine before or after surgery, I can drink a cup of coffee right before bed and not have a problem. It is also a natural diuretic which is actually helpful in not getting constipated, but can cause some added problems with dehydration if your not careful. As with everything you should probably ask you surgeon but this is my experiences. -
Seeing as some people don't do preop diet and others do much shorter preop diets I would think it won't effect surgery that much, but try to keep on the diet the rest of the time because one of the goals of the preop diet is to reduce the size of the liver so as to make the surgery less likely to have complications. Good Luck.

I don't think so but don't be afraid to ask if you don't understand what something means, i'm sure someone will explain it. -
I think it would almost have to be in full foods because they really don't seem to meet any of the other categories.

When can i eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwiich?
Richard Foor replied to cyncitygirl's topic in Food and Nutrition
ooops sorry I was not thinking right, bread is the opposite of a slider, sorry for any confusion. -
When can i eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwiich?
Richard Foor replied to cyncitygirl's topic in Food and Nutrition
Yeah when you get to solid foods you will be able to have your sandwich and eat it to. But beware bread is a slider food for a lot of people meaning you can eat more of it then you should when you start so you have to be careful to not go overboard, and of course bread is usually very high in carbs. -
Potty troubles?
Richard Foor replied to NurseGrace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's perfectly normal post op to not have a bm for the first week, my surgeon even warned me about it. -
Pretty much anything without calories is good, you probably also want to watch out for carbs, some drinks will have more then you think. But crystal light and MIO are both really good ways to add flavor without anything else.

Jan. 23 Revision
Richard Foor replied to vonnegutk's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
If you are having trouble getting your fluids you might want to try drinking more warm or at least room temp fluids. Warmer fluids help reduce the swelling and are therefore easier to get in. Good Luck. -
12 days post op and no weight loss
Richard Foor replied to asweetypi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you aren't getting enough fluid in it may be stopping you from losing the weight. If you are having a hard time getting the fluid in because of swelling maybe try drinking more warm liquids or even room temp the warmer stuff helps get the swelling down and is therefore easier to drink. Good Luck. Also, make sure your getting enough protein because that can make you tired and dizzy also. -
Does anyone work 3rd shift with sleeve?
Richard Foor replied to Indigoflgrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work 4 to 12 on the ambulance, so not as drastic but still different from the so called "normal". I don't see why it would make any difference at all, people who work shift are on a different schedule but as long as it is consistent your body should adjust to it, the body doesn't have a built in clock it only knows what time it is by what your activity level is. -
Is this normal?
Richard Foor replied to SoccerMomKerry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone goes through the phase in preop where they think they shouldn't do it, you just need to remember why you decided to do this in the first place and concentrate on that. Good Luck. -
Day 3 post op: HELP!
Richard Foor replied to Ohitsmorgan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Narcotic pain medications by nature cause nausea so the sooner you can get yourself to stop taking them the sooner your nausea will get better. Tylenol is a better choice for a mild pain relief because it doesn't irritate the stomach as much, but if possible you are better if you can avoid any pain meds, I know for some that isn't possible. Good Luck. -
5th day liquid preop
Richard Foor replied to kathyhalls's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was on my preop I did have to cheat a few times to make it through. If you don't have enough energy are you sure your getting enough protein, if the problem continues you might want to call your surgeon or NUT and ask them for advice. -
pre-op question
Richard Foor replied to tankerzwife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people whether they admit it or not went through phases of eating a lot and junk leading up to pre-op because you are thinking you may never get to eat that stuff again. It does get easier but there will always be some things you just have a hard time avoiding.
