  1. There is a lot of variation from dr to dr on the preop diet. I believe that when the dr's order the longer preop diets it is also to help the patient to be able to better adjust when they get to the post op stage, this way you can get your base need to cheat on the liquid diet out of the way when it won't really hurt you. But that is just my opinion. Good Luck.

    Hernias

Hernias in general cause abdominal pain but not always especially depending on how long it is going on. If they find it when doing the surgery and fix it they have saved you from impending pain that would have come eventually plus I believe the only way to fix a hernia is with surgery so they also save you from having to have another surgery down the road.
  3. Your surgeon should have given you instructions on this and every dr seems to differ on how they want things done. That being said my surgeon said not to take vitamin supplements until I got to soft foods 2 weeks out something about them being hard on the stomach lining without food to assist. Protein shakes I started in the hospital the day after surgery. Good Luck.

    having bathroom problems

It is very common to be constipated after this surgery. If you are following a low carb high protein diet you are probably not getting much fiber. I personally take benefiber x2 daily to prevent constipation, I have read that a lot of people seem to like miralax also. I also have a history of Diverticulitis which has been now flaring up because of the lack of fiber, believe me not very much fun at all, will probably need to increase my fiber supplement after I get the Diver healed up. Good Luck.

    Hernias

My surgeon found a hiatal hernia during surgery, he fixed it, did not cost any extra.
  6. Found this sample pack on Netrition.com though it could be helpful for some on here who have a hard time finding a protein like like. http://www6.netrition.com/netrition_protein_sampler_pack.html

    post op w 3 babies

Did the dr actually tell you nothing over 10 lbs for 6 weeks, the reason I ask is my weight limitation was 20 pounds for 2 weeks, and then I was cleared to go back to work as a paramedic after 3 weeks believe me when we lift it is much more then 23 pounds. So you might want to verify what your dr has the limitations set at.
  8. But at what point did your nut have you start eating it. Most of us on here aren't saying there is anything wrong with pasta in the long run, and wether to eat carbs or not is a decision that needs to be made based on the individual. But eating pasta should not be rushed into until your stomach is healed enough for it.

    Weight loss goals

I personally hate putting a number goal on weight loss. I don't believe people should be so concerned about the numbers, a weight goal should always be what makes you feel good. I also think that from the results you see on this forum it is easy to say any goal is achievable if you put the work in. Good Luck.

    panic X 2

How quickly and how much you can drink has to do with how much swelling you have inside, some people have less swelling then others, and therefore can drink easier. I am definitely surprised your dr is taking the fever thing so lightly, did you actually talk to your surgeon or someone else from their office, a high temp like 103 is not a fluke, I would definitely want to see the surgeon so they could check for problems. Good Luck.
  11. New study out of the university of Pittsburgh on the effects of exercise on depression in WLS patients. http://allegsurg.com/news/view/a-little-exercise-goes-a-long-way/39

    salad

EveEveeeeeeeeevery Dr has different plans so you should check with yours to be sure. That being said I was aloud raw vegetables and all foods for that matter at 1 month out. I have heard that some people have trouble with lettuce but it has not been a problem for me. Good Luck.

    Dry Heaving

Are you taking nexium or Prilosec or something for the reflux, that could be causing the dry heaves. I personally have never had anything like that. Doesn't sound like much fun, obviously you should probably ask your dr. for the best advice. Good Luck.

    Hide your JP Drain?

When I had mine I would often put the drain in my pants pocket and wear my shirt untucked so you couldn't see the tubing. Mine was also in the same location as described by katikati. The only time it hurt for me was when the skin around the tubing was trying to heal and then when the tubing got bumped it would hurt the fresh skin but I had mine for about 15 days due to Christmas in between my surgery and having it removed. Good Luck.
  15. Most narcotic pain medicines will cause nausea in most people, I would hope they are giving you an ant nausea med with it but if they or not or it's not working ask for a different anti nausea med since some are more effective then others for some people. I personally don't like taking medicines so I didn't take any pain meds post op but not everyone can do that. Good Luck.
  16. I wasn't trying to imply people should never eat pasta again, sorry if it came off that way. Since the original poster is only 2 months post op it is probably a little early for regular starchy pasta in my opinion, but maybe i'm wrong about when the stomach is healed enough to take that chance.
  17. The problem is the expansion of the pasta in your stomach. even though you aren't eating that much when it expands in your stomach it puts pressure on your sutures/staples. remember the part of the stomach that was removed was the stretchy part. You might want to look for the ricotta bake recipe, or i personally make spaghetti sauce and eat it with a spoon without any noodles. Their are also tofu pastas and kale pasta but i am not positive if they expand or not like regular pasta, possibly someone else will have better info on those.

    Exercise

At a week after surgery I seriously doubt it. At about 1 week after surgery I got exhausted walking at the grocery store and walking is one of the few things I used to be able to do with no problems.

    Dry skin.....

I was having a lot of problems with this after surgery. My surgeon suggested changing to the celebrate vitamins because they have more nutrients in them that would help with this. I changed and have not had the problem anymore.
  20. If you click the link I posted above it actually leads to a story from my surgeons office about the study which is a general summary. I figured it was better to link to there story then to plagiarize it.
  21. I didn't feel anything when they pulled my drain, but it had been really uncomfortable when I moved prior to them removing it.

    2 questions, please help!

Unlike the others I wasn't supposed to drive till after my 1 week post op appointment. This was because of the drain being where the seat belt would go in the driver's seat and they pulled the drain at that appointment. I do agree with the others that you should opt for the 4 days post op because it would be too much at 2 days, I didn't even get released from the hospital until 2 days post op. Good Luck.
