Liquid Diet Heaven!
Richard Foor replied to MaddieJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great to see someone staying positive, the liquid diet tends to be rough for a lot of people at first but gets easier, and the post op is even easier yet. Good Luck, enjoy your journey it's not always easy but it's worth it and gets better as time goes by, stay positive. -
Agree with the others call your Dr. the ppi's do not all work the same for everyone, sometimes if one is working they can try one of the others and it will work. Good Luck, enjoy the journey it's not always easy but it gets better as time goes by.

Just sleeved yesterday
Richard Foor replied to Fitzright's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My advice is to walk as much as possible because you need to get the excess gas out and walking is the best way. Also, it is important to know that for a lot of people the amount of nausea in the beginning is directly related to the amount of pain meds you need. If you need the pain meds by all means take them but make sure they are following them up with an ant nausea med like Zofran. Good Luck, enjoy the journey it's not always easy but it gets better as time goes by, stay positive. -
Ok Lets do this :)

It's great to try different types and see what you like. However, I recommend against buying in any larger quantity prior to having your surgery because it is common for your tastes to change when you are post op. I have read many posts on here about people who bought a bunch of a certain protein so they would be ready and then when they got to be post op couldn't stand it. Good Luck.

Consequences of no protein
Richard Foor replied to laughingheels's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you don't get enough protein intake your body has to break down muscle tissue to get what it needs to fuction. As you lose muscle mass it will actually decrease your bodies ability to burn fat therefore decreasing weight loss, as well as making you have no energy. That's why they say protein is the most important thing post op. Good Luck. -

9 days post-op drinking question
Richard Foor replied to Sleeveland's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Well my surgeon said I would probably need to sip for the first couple weeks but if I could drink more it was OK as long as I didn't gulp since gulping puts sit in the stomach. Everyone has different levels of swelling so the answer won't be the same for everyone. Good luck. -
Survey: Cheating Wives Shop at Banana Republic, J.Crew
Richard Foor replied to DonRodolfo's topic in The Lounge
Well not to dispute the survey by my cheating soon to be ex wife shops at old navy and Walmart. -
There is a lot a variable to this based on your metabolism and activity levels. The best advice is to go by your dr or nut suggestions and determine what works best for you. I personally eat between 700 and 900 a day. I am 7 months out and 135 lbs down. Good luck.

So I was waking out of the gym this morning and I'm looking down at my ankles and thinking about how different they look and how is hard to believe they are my ankles when it hits me I Can See my ankles I can't remember the last time I could see them from a standing position.

How many calories?
Richard Foor replied to JessicaAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr and nut said not to even think about calories during those first stages but to focus on getting the proteins and fluids. I don't think 500 calories is anywhere near a lot so no need to worry about it. When you get to solid foods that's when you will need to start counting the calories to develop the proper habits to succeed. Good Luck. -
Please tell me I'm not alone....
Richard Foor replied to kim2002's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe almost everyone goes through these feelings when they are leading up to the surgery and not just about the surgery itself but about the thought that you are choosing to change your whole life and wandering if you are really ready for it. Just focus on the reasons you decided to have the surgery and good luck. -
Some of the depression we all feel could be related to lower caloric intake or low blood sugar or vitamin deficiencies. But more likely and what I personally feel causes mine when I get that way is just from putting so much thought and work into everything we need to lose the weight and not getting to focus on any positive aspects enough. I do find that working out at the gym and getting the endorphin rush helps for a little bit, but sometimes I just need to stop and look in the mirror at what I've accomplished so far and enjoy the success without thinking of what I have to do next. Anyhow everyone Good Luck and try to think of at least one thing to smile about every hour.

It gets easier as time passes. I use 30 oz bottles and I started with drinking 2 of them a day then was able to get 3 and now 4.

Best Post-op Protein sources
Richard Foor replied to supermom223's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would warn you not to buy a whole lot of anything before surgery. You will find that post op your tastes may change a lot, and if you stock up on something before hand you may end up hating it post op and then you will be stuck with it. Good Luck and enjoy the journey, it's not always easy but it gets better every day. -
falling apart
Richard Foor replied to ready2inspire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you are going through is very common post op. You will find many people myself included had stalls around that 1 month out point but check your measurements sometimes when the scale isn't cooperating your measurements help. You body needs to readjust every so often causing stalls or slow downs. 3 oz of chicken is not an issue as you proceed the amounts you can eat will continue to increase but track the calories, make sure your getting your proteins and if your feel like you are retaining fluids make sure you are drinking enough in the first place, if you aren't drinking enough your body may try to hold onto whatever it can. If you put 3 oz chicken into myfitnesspal it shows as 49 calories and 11 grams of protein, doesn't sound that bad when you look at the numbers does it. Good Luck, and enjoy the journey it gets better as time goes by. -
Need help with what to tell a few people?
Richard Foor replied to Taylor06's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally did not hide my surgery at all but I do understand it is different for other people. I have read on here where others have just told people they had abdominal surgery without going into further detail most people won't ask to many questions if you tell them something like that and stop short of giving any further details. Others I have seen have told people they had their gall bladder out especial if they do that with it. Good Luck and enjoy the journey. -
Staples out today
Richard Foor replied to birdl0vergirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I did not have staples with my VSG but have had them before for other things, they usually are not painful coming out, since they are just coming straight out of the holes they are in they shouldn't hit any nerves or anything. Good Luck. -
I'm freakin out man...
Richard Foor replied to mamachef's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is completely natural to be scared at this phase. Most of the possible complications are not likely but they have to list them because it has happened on rare occasions and they don't want to get sued. The most important thing to do is focus on the reasons you are doing this and decide if for you the benefits out weigh the risks, odds are if you are like most of us they most definitely will. Good Luck, enjoy the journey it is rough sometimes but gets better as time goes by. -
Seems a little high in carbs for my taste but each is own. I personally have stayed a way from any cereal because I was afraid it would bridge me into bad habits. Good Luck.

Average loss with the sleeve is 60% of excess weight?!?!
Richard Foor replied to Nicolanz's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
The thing about these numbers are they are averages based on a small group that would have been studied which means that it is easy for the numbers to be way off if there were people in the study who totally didn't follow the plan and lost little or nothing. I personally am also at 70% at 7 months out and still losing and if you look at the posts on here most have lost over that 60% from what I can tell. So in other words I totally agree with Nicolanz don't let these studies dissuade anyone with proper following of the plan I believe much better percentages are definitely achievable. -
This like so many things is very dependent on your doctors personal opinions of what you are capable of. Therefore it can be a very different answer for you then someone else so your doctor is the best source for this answer. Good Luck and enjoy the journey.

what to eat before exercise?
Richard Foor replied to moonlitestarbrite's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I personally don't tend to eat before my workouts but I believe it varies depending on what your goal of the workout is. At first I used to drink a protein shake or eat a protein bar immediately after workouts because the protein helps with a faster recovery of the muscles and helps to build muscle mass, I don't do that as much now because I am alright with the muscle mass that I have and am just trying to maintain it and burn fat. I have heard of people loading on carbs before a workout to keep their blood sugar up but have never had issues with sugar myself so maybe someone else can give better info on that. Good Luck, enjoy the journey.
