Photos of UK post Op food be nice

Today I had 1/2 serving of steel cut oatmeal for breakfast, a pure protein shake mid morning, 2 oz chicken breast for lunch, 2 oz chicken around 5 and then a slider mini burger (140 cal.) at 7pm...I need to work on getting my veggies in. Oh, and I also drank 64oz water, and took 2 flintstones complete chewable vitamins. :-)

    Medical alert bracelets! GET THEM!

    Great info, thanks so much!
  5. I'm Dec. 18th but figured that was close enough. :-) Down 21 lbs since surgery. I was in a week stall then read a post on here that explained why drinking at least 64 oz a day was so important, so I upped my Water and lost 4 lbs in 2 days. The only problem I had was extreme nausea during my entire 2 night hospital stay - it was awful but once home I was fine. I love, love, love my sleeve!
  6. Another huge pro for the sleeve is that most people lose their hunger. It usually does come back after a while but for the first year it makes it so much easier! :-)
  7. They found a large hernia and that I have Barrett's Esophagus. Barrett's is when you have acid reflux so bad that your stomach cells replace your esophagus cells so that your esophagus doesn't burn from the acid. That is why I had no heartburn (except for years ago). The bad thing is that people with Barrett's have a higher risk of esophagus or stomach cancer (however it's a very low. %). My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Ice queen, did you lose your hunger and if so has it come back, and when did it come back? I have lost my hunger and love it but am wondering if it will last.

    Post-Op pain..

My pain level wasn't too bad when I woke up after surgery but I had to stay an extra night in the hospital because I was SO nauseated and was unable to keep anything down . The doctor said it was a reaction to the anastegia (sp?) they gave me during surgery. Since I've been home I haven't had anymore problems with vomiting so I guess my doc was right. I took the pain medication for a few days and felt great Christmas Eve and Christmas. However yesterday and today I've felt a bit week, tired, and achy. I think it's because I haven't eaten any 'real' food for 11days. Overall though it wasn't too bad!
  11. I made my yummy cheese rounds - parmesan cheese /mayo/ green onions mixed and spread on sliced banquette sourdough bread, then baked in oven. Smells delicious and they are so yummy. I made them to bring to my sister's Christmas Eve and also for my house Christmas Day. Both days I had no thought or temptation to try to eat one, or anything else besides full liquids, as I was only just sleeved Dec. 18th. I've been reading for hours on this forum and kept reading how people had 'cheated' just a little with toast and had no bad experience. Yesterday and today my husband cooked up batches of left over cheese rounds and I was very tempted to try and eat just one. But then I remembered reading the 'how serious this is' posts and I had a little cream of chicken Soup instead. If I have any thoughts again of going off track again before i am fully healed I will jcome back and re-read this post. Thanks everyone for your help. rorounds

  13. I was never on clear liquids. My doctor puts his patients on full liquids for 14 days then puréed /mushiness. In hospital I was brought strawberry protein mix.

    Rny VS Vsg

Hit here. I just had the sleeve on Dec. 18th and am doing really well. I also had a large hiatal hernia fixed at the same time, which I just found out due to my Dr.s request to have a upper endoscopy before he would do the surgery. Turns out I have Barrett's Esophagus which means the lining of the stomach replaces the lining of the bottom half of the esophagus turning the squamous cells to stomach cells as the stomach cells protect you against the burn of having heartburn. This will either heal itself (doc cays) or I can have office treatments to laser it off with the idea the new cells that grow back would be the normal squamous cells. Having Barrett's gives you a .5% chance of developing stomach or esophagus cancer. My Dr. Didn't suggest that we change my surgery to a bypass procedure but I will be asking about it at my 3 week checkup. I am pretty sure I still would have chosen the sleeve though. Good luck to you! :-)

4 days post-op: Down 16 Pounds... not fat?

I also was sleeved Tuesday and had to stay an extra night as I kept vomiting everything I drank. My doctor said it could be because my hiatal hernia was much larger than he thought it was. I also kept waking up with bad headaches in the hospital as well. But once I got home Thurs. night those two issues went away, thank goodness! :-) I started at 235 lbs. on Tuesday and am down to 228. I didn't have to do a pre liquid diet so I'm not yet sick of the protein drinks. Congratulations to you all!

Hiatal Hernia And Vsg At The Same Time

Thanks notime, it's been so much easier. Today. The fluids are staying down well now. :-) Erp, the stomach is very near the Esphogus. I don't get his objection, but I am not a doctor. My surgeon. Is very good so I trusted him.

Hiatal Hernia And Vsg At The Same Time

My hernia was quite large and I was also diagnosed with Barretts Esphocolius (sp?) so I had to get it fixed. I had no symptoms of heartburn because of the Barrett. I'm guessing that anyone would be ale to get their I insuance cover it...? Especially if it is symptomatic, giving you reflux, heartburn, etc. I had my VSG and HH fixed Tues Dec., 18th. It was pretty rough going for me because I couldn't keep any fluids so they kept me another nite. I'm not sure WHO is going to pay for that extra night but at that pont there was no way I could have gone home. I probably could have left the hospital and then went to an ER as I believe my ins would to pay it then, I'm still hoping I won't have to pay for second nights stay and that they'll code it under my hernia repair. I am back at home as of last night and am able to finally get in my fluids without vomiting up anything.

Hiatal Hernia And Vsg At The Same Time

Hello, I have United Health Care and my plan required I had a BMI >35 for 5 years with 2 co morbidities. My BMI was not quite over 35 for 2 out of the 5 years so I was denied. Dr. Gregg Jossart in San Francisco agreed to fix my hernia and let me self pay for the sleeve. I will sign a contract with the hospital where we agree I only have to pay $5,000. $2k to Dr. Jossart and $3k to hospital facility. My surgery is scheduled for Dec. 18th.

    Insurance Companies Are So Petty

Hello, I also have United Health Care Choice Plus PPO as my insurance. My doctor just submitted a request for VSG. I have a BMI of 39.5 but last five years my BMI was lower. Do you know if UHC just looks at current BMI?
