    Hair loss

My Dr tells all his patients that 3-6 months post-op some people will lose hair. Unfortunately I was one of those patients, I have thin hair to begin with too, mine started at 4 months out. I was told to up my protein from 60 grams daily to 80 grams daily, I was already taking biotin. It finally did stop falling out shortly after my 6 month mark. It is very stressful, but I am about half way to go goal now and I wouldn't think twice about doing it all over again.
  2. I am so glad that I am not alone. I am a couple days over 3 weeks post-op and seem to be starting a stall phase. This really sucks. I guess we have no choice but to keep plugging away with our diet and exercise until our bodies decide to catch up. I knew about stalls I just hoped it would be farther down the road and closer to goal before it happened (wishful thinking).
  3. I will be a week post-op tomorrow. I am on Nexium and have been for years. I have had the "acid hunger pains" since the second day. I try to sip something almost continuously and I have never had a full feeling yet. Today is the first day of full liquids. I know it is just my head talking, but I feel like I will never feel full again. It is frustrating, but it should only be temporary.

    My knees HURT!

Just great, I have osteoarthritis in both knees, and being off NSAIDS before surgery has made it very difficult to walk. I can't imagine it getting worst. I thought WLS was supported to magically make our knee pain go away, because we won't be carrying around excess weight.

    July 31 sleevers

I am scheduled for surgery at12:20 tomorrow. It has been a year long process to get approved and I am very excited. I was able to only find one type of sugar-free popsicles at Wal-Mart and they are the cheapest kind of twin pops in a variety pack.

    July 31st

I have my pulmonary function test tomorrow at 3pm, then Wednesday is my surgery. I'm excited and scared all at the same time.
  10. I just purchased several of these books. I now have a lot of reading I can do on my upcoming trip. Thanks for the suggestions.
  11. Thank you for sharing you horrible experience so eloquently. I know that dumping is a problem with the bypass, but I had no idea it was a problem with the sleeve. I have heard about the lactose intolerance with the sleeve, but I didn't give it much thought. I will certainly give it much more thought now.

Looks great, thank you so much for sharing it with us.
  14. Nose cup or full face mask, I still wake up after about 4 hours gasping and in a panic. I'm not sure if I will ever be able to wear it all night long. I wish I could I'm sure that I would feel better.

    Maryland Sleevers?

I have Care First Administrators, which is a little different than just Care First. That made things a little confusing at the Dr's office. My insurance says I have to lose 5-10% of my body weight before approval. The dietitian said she had another client with the same insurance and she even gained weight and was approved. It just depends on which person at the insurance co. reviews the case and how picky they are.

    Maryland Sleevers?

I'm near Hagerstown MD. I'm hoping to have my surgery sometime this summer. My insurance denied my first submission, so a few more hoops to go through and my Dr's office will resubmit.
  18. I have noticed a lot of people wanting to know other people's experiences with a weight close to their own. But since weight is subjective I wanted to know what some of your experiences are/were with a BMI over 50. My BMI is 51.3 and I am afraid of losing too much weight before my ins. approves my sx. They require a BMI over 50 for the sleeve. I feel like if I drop below 50 they will deny me.

    Bmi Over 50

Thanks, I have been trying to eat better but also not limiting a lot. I did tell the NUT that I was afraid of being denied. She said I have a few pounds to play with and depends on who at the ins. co. reviews my case.

    Bmi Over 50

I have lost 4 pounds but just about 6 more pounds would put me just under 50. I hate going to my NUT appointment with such a small change in my weight, it makes me feel bad, like she probably thinks I am not listening to her or following her advice.
  21. I think what you are going through is perfectly normal. I would be worried if you weren't having different emotions. This is life changing event we are facing. I am not that close to my sx yet, only about half way through the process, but I have had a few emotional moments myself and I can see it getting worse when it gets very close to the time. Good luck to you, hug you dog and anyone else you can and remember this is for a longer and healthier life.
  22. Mine was quite easy and I only had to pay my ins. co-pay of $20. I spent about 45 min. Telling the Dr. about what diets I had been on in the past, how I normally eat, if I or my family had drug or alcohol issues, when I first start gaining weight, what my expectations were after sx, If I had a support network, those sort of things. Most of all just be open and honest, the only person that would get hurt if you don't tell the truth is you. They just want to make sure that you are prepared for it mentally. I also think they want to know if you are likely to have other issues in place of food ( ie drugs, alcohol, shopping, etc).
  23. I started out with a mask that covered just my nose, it was ok. Then I started having a very congested feeling in my sinuses and started breathing through my mouth when I was sleeping. My Dr. ordered a full face mask. I still have problems getting use to that one too.
  24. I have sleep apnea as well. I have trouble sleeping very long with my mask on. After a couple of hours I wake up in a panic. My pressure is 15 and the only way I can fall asleep is to use the ramp feature and when the pressure gets too high for me I hit the ramp button again. I know I need the machine but I have no idea how to adjust to it better.
