The pain in the shoulders is gas pain. Try taking Gax-X and walk as much as possible. This should go away in a few days. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired. After a few weeks you will feel so much better. Before surgery I had a very hard time catching my breath. After my hiatal hernia healed I can breathe so much better and deeper now. It will all get better in a few weeks and you will be so happy with your breathing. I was sleeved in November.

When can we eat fruit and salads
Vidalia replied to thensley820's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 months out and have been eating the little Cutie clementine seedless oranges. After I peel the orange, I carefully peel away the white membrane and just eat the pulp of each section. This is good because it forces me to eat it slowly. I have not had any problems. -
Whats with the"SLIME?" Lol
Vidalia replied to christy38's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You know when you are getting ready to throw up and saliva pours out of your mouth involuntarily? I believe that is what is meant by SLIMES. This has happened to me several times after I have eaten too much or the wrong foods. I cannot control the saliva pouring out, but I have never once actually thrown up since my surgery in November. -
Eating out! How do you sleevers do it?
Vidalia replied to christy38's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I order from the kid's menu. The restaurant will usually let me do this if I tell them I have had surgery and I am on a restricted diet. I also have a business card that states this from my surgeon if I don't want to announce it. For example, at Cracker Barrel I ordered kid's grilled chicken tenderloins with a vegetable side. At Fatz they have a kid's grilled salmon that is very good. I order that with a baked sweet potato. At Japanese sushi, I eat one or two piece of sushi from my son's roll. I have not tried any steak yet. I am going to wait six months for that. If we go Mexican, I order Al La Carte and get something small like a grilled chicken soft taco. Even ordering from the kid's menu, I am not able to finish it. I take what I can't eat home in a box. Also, when the waitress comes for the drink order I ask for a water with lemon in a TO GO cup. I don't drink it, but take it with me and drink it later in the car. -
My bladder was the worst part of my hospital stay. I thought I was going to have to get a catheter because I could not empty it and it was full and very painful. I would try and try and nothing would come out. Finally, and thank God, I was able to empty it by STANDING UP over the toilet and gently pressing on my bladder area. I know it sounds weird but I was so relieved that I found a way to empty it. I had to do that for a few days after I got home too. They say your bladder goes to sleep during surgery but mine must have been in a coma. It gets better though. I was completely back to normal in a few weeks.

Gummie Multi Vitimans...Thoughts anyone?
Vidalia replied to T'snewstart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was wondering the same thing. I have tried all kinds of vitamins and I would love to stick with the gummies. I have One A Day gummies and I compared the ingredients to my regular One a Day and they were similar. The gummies had no iron in them, where the swallow did. But, like the other poster said I hate the other vitamins so bad that I often put off taking them until it is too late to take them for the day. The gummies are so fast, easy to get down and do not upset my stomach like all the others. This is going to be my next question for my NUT. -
I have noticed this seems to happen every time I eat a meal about the time I am full. I feel the need to blow my nose and I will start feeling stuffy. What is going on? Does this happen to anyone else?

I will say I was scared to eat them on my third week. I think I started eating them on my fourth week, but only a couple at a time, very slowly and tiny bites. They didn't bother me.
-
Wheat Thins and Triscuits were on my list at beginning of third week... No saltines or Ritz type though because they become too pasty and hard to swallow. They said they need to be very hard and crumbly and chew well.

Sleep Apnea Question For Long Time Sleevers
Vidalia posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Around what weight did you reach before you came off the machine? Did you have to have a new sleep study? I hope I get to come off my machine some day. I hate it. -
My pain meds gave me nightmares right after surgery but they were worth it.

I am not sure about the ones you are talking about, but I was required to buy a vitamin/protein kit after surgery prescribed by my doctor. It had a bottle of "protein elixir" for sleevers who could not tolerate the shakes the first few days. Well, I opened it and sniffed and almost passed out it smelled so bad. I licked the rim and decided if I had to live on that I would just end up back in the hospital. It smelled so bad I don't see how it could be for human consumption. Thankfully, I was able to tolerate the shakes.

What kind of help do you need after surgery?
Vidalia replied to RedCardinal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will definitely need someone with you at the hospital to help you in and out of bed and to bathroom. I stayed at home by myself while husband was at work and did fine. I went to grocery store alone and asked the bag boy to take them to the car, while I usually do that myself. When I got home I had my boys unload them, so that would be one thing to consider. I did not feel comfortable even lifting a gallon of milk or laundry detergent the first few days. But, other than the lifting, you should be fine. My doctor even encouraged me to do light housework and move as much as possible as soon as you get home. -
I usually eat all of Santa's cookies. This is the first year I have ever thrown them in the garbage! Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

how do you know when your full
Vidalia replied to haleyj134's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nose starts getting very congested. I feel the need to blow it to clear it. That is my signal. It is not comfortable so I am trying to stop eating before it starts feeling that way. I only get to eat a few bites before it starts. -
I had horrible burps shortly after taking my iron tablet. It tasted like rotten eggs. I had to stop taking them.

Antibacterial Soap for Pre-Op
Vidalia replied to ArcusX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just told to shower with any kind of anti-bacterial soap the morning of surgery. -
Yes, it is a chore to eat, not a pleasure anymore. Even foods that I formerly loved are just BLAH. I hope my appetite returns at least somewhat. I was sleeved November 9th.

So, I was in Walmart and decided to just look at the protein foods section in the pharmacy department. I knew they sold protein bars, but I had never tried any (I used to only shop in the candy bar section). I saw a very large variety of bars, some with as much as 20 grams of protein per bar and low carbs! I was just wondering if these can be used in place of shakes later on? I sure could see myself enjoying a "caramel nut bar" vs. another shake.

Five things no one every told me how to deal with
Vidalia replied to janerose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have only lost 23 pounds, but the other day I was wearing my Pandora bracelet. I shook my hand real hard and it flew off my hand. I was shocked. The same day I was able to pull my jeans down without unbuttoning or unzipping. They just slipped off over my (smaller) hips! Great feelings! -
I am five weeks post-op and I just had one appetizer cheese roll and one piece of my son's Dragon Roll (cooked sushi) for lunch. No problem! I was so afraid I would not be able to eat sushi again because of the rice. I ate the whole piece and didn't have any problems. Yay!

Yes! I had my "Last Supper" several times before my surgery! -
Most important preop question of all...
Vidalia replied to orthoman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only a month out, but I am thinking of my new relationship with food sort of like breaking up with a bad boyfriend. We had our good times, but "he" hurt me and was not good for me, so I am moving on. The new relationship with food I am now experiencing is so strange to me. I am not hungry at all, but sometimes wish that I was hungry. I do miss the pleasure that food used to bring to me, because now it does not really bring me pleasure. I just eat because I know I need to. Very strange feeling. As I am beginning to lose weight (21 pounds so far), I am beginning to see my mourning for food as a trade off for the weight loss. I believe as I lose more and more I will care less and less about the feeling that food used to bring me. It's really hard to explain. Even though I am experiencing this mourning for food right now, I still have NO regrets. Every time I am able to take a good, deep breath (which I could not a month ago) I am thankful for my decision.
