I had Dr. Tarnoff. He was great. I loved their program, knew it would be good for me, but wasn't really excited about the Behavioral Support Group, but I loved my group and in the end I wish you could attend weekly through the entire process instead of just 6 weeks. I had 3-4 weeks after it ended before my surgery. A group of us still check in w/ eachother though. I can't complain at all about their program. Dr. Rollanson wasn't my fave and she's not for everyone, but other than her everyone else exceeded my expectations.

Does 29 count? I'm sad, only 352 days before I turn 30. :car: I started at 230, now weight 196 and couldn't be happier! I feel very thankful that I was able to do something about my weight while I am still in my 20's I want to have a family - start trying at least in a year and a half and not to be having the notion that my weight will double after a baby. Which is typical for my family's side of the family. Now I am empowered and adjustable for the rest of my life!

a bump, literally bumps a post back to the top so it doesn't get lost in a sea of other posts.

Anytime you drastically change your diet you'll hit a honeymoon weightloss, a lot of that was prob water-weight. Now your weightloss will taper down to a much more healthy 1-2 lbs per week. Don't be too alarmed if you gain some of it back. I gained about 5 lbs before I started to find restriction. The fills can take awhile to get just right. Its a journey, not a race.

Would you give them a chance again?
slechleiter replied to Lee4love1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Abosolutely NOT! I work at a university and was mortified one day to hear some guys talking about some girl who had recently lost a bunch of weight over the summer. There was some talk about how she's probably emotionally defunct and would prob sleep w/ anyone just to try out the new bod now that she could "get some" I wanted to walk up to those boys and slap them all, but of course, there were legal issues...... My husband met me chubby, fell in love w/ me chubby and has supported my weightloss 100%. If it was any other way, I'd be worried. -
Will I be too sick Post opt to drive myself home 1000+ miles?
slechleiter replied to vixie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'd wait at least 3 days before driving that far! I had to be a passenger 2 days post op, for a 4 hour round trip drive and it was fine as a passenger, but I wouldn't have been able to do it as a driver. I didn't drive again until day 5. And it was just down the street to pick up some take out for my poor hungry husband. -
:clap2: Go you! Your weightloss is amazing! Give yourself a hand. And do the happy dance! :whoo: Welcome to the group!

First fill.....Need someone to go with you?
slechleiter replied to SimplyMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You'll be fine solo. Just bring a big water bottle for afterwards. -
I wasn't banded in Mexico, but I've heard of Kuri and Ortiz. You may want to try searching back threads or maybe posting w. a more specific title. Remember how important follow up care is, u need to make sure if u get banded in Mexico that u can find a doc in the US that is near u and wil peform fills and after care on you. I've heard from too many women who got banded and then had to drive for hours to get to a doc that was willing to see them. I can't imagine not looking for the follow-up. I was banded by a very reputable surgeon in Boston, MA but may be moving in the next year to my homestate of Colorado w/ my hubby. One of the first things I did when we started house hunting was look for new docs in the area and call to make sure they'd see me. I'd like to check out a few of them first, cause I really believe in Dr./Patient chemestry. Every office that I spoke to asked nerveously if I was banded in Mexico then laughed and breathed when I said Boston. NONE of the docs w/i a 2 hour radious that I spoke to would have seen me if I was banded in Mexico. For me it doesn't matter, as I wasn't, but it does make me nervous for other bandsters that were.

Hello fellow Marchers! I was banded March 19th, 2007 at NEMC in Boston. I was so happy to see such a huge response from others banded in March! So far I've lost a total of 32 lbs!

I am beyond excited, yesterday I woke up and weighed in at 199.4, today it was 199.2, I didn't want to post yesterday and hten wake back up in Twoterville! :clap2: I have been below 200 in at least 2 years, not even w/ all of the dieting and exercise I did for my wedding. I was a 205 lb bride! How depressing is that? - Well for me it was tramatic. I'm totally loving my band all over again. To Celebrate I'm having a mega facial peel on Tuesday and taking the rest of the week off from work so I can recoop. This is the Year-of-Stephanie and I am determined that on my Band anniversary date (3/19) I will look like an extreme makeover. Beautiful body, toned from the gym and fat-free'ish from the band, beautiful, glowing skin from my weight-loss-reward treatments, and maybe I'll start playing w/ some hair color streaks along the way! :kiss2: Stephanie Ramos

Medic Alert ID or not?
slechleiter replied to anonemouse's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have the card in my wallet, but honestly would feel more comfortable w/ something on my persons, what if I got seperated from my handbag you know! So I'm looking now at the various websites and just wanted to point out something for people who may feel like their ID bracelet is turning into a charm bracelet w/ various health issues they have: The MedicAlert® E-HealthKEY USB flash drive and software providing access to your personal health record, anywhere, 24/7. I hadn't seen that a few years ago when looking for one for my aunt, this could be a real life saver to some! -
Julie, thank you! And thanks for deciphering some of my post, I was just re-reading it, I took a few little erratic jaunts from the main story, but the full point you were able to grasp, lol!

Where in Mass. is everyone from?
slechleiter replied to BreadLady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Arlington, MA here, work in Boston. -
I have this lump in my throat feeling too, but banded 3/19/07 and still finding restriction, so I went in for my 3rd fill and the feeling almost immediately felt more intense. I figured w/ the 24 hours of liquids, then mush I'd be fine, I just didn't chew well enough or something and injured it somehow. Nope, now I have acid break through, its a signal of acid reflux that isn't bad enough to start burning yet. You may be too tight, or as I always fear the worst-case scenario: slippage. Call your Dr. and get a slight unfill and see how you feel then. When I talked to one of the docs at my OCC she said she wanted to see me immeditately tomorrow and she said it wasn't a good sign. GREAT! I finnally find restriction and now I have to get some Fluid out. Freaking fabulous.

Keeping it a secret?
slechleiter replied to Fluffy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Of course my hubby and 2 friends that I see maybe 2 times a year (simply cause we don't live in the same state anymore). I trust them both. No one else knows. Not my siblings, my parents or anyone from work, or friends that I see on a regular basis. -
I knew I had to do something when we went to a friend's wedding, I weighed 230 and 5'2, my hubby is 6'2 and weighs 150. He loves to dance, and I use to. We haven't even been married a full year. So he asks me to dance and I find myself saying no. I didn't want to be the fat chick dancing w/ her poor, handsome hubby who obviously got a raw deal in the wife-department. I know I want kids some day, but didn't want to get even fatter cause then it would be even worse. So I turn my husband down and push a tiny maybe 100 lb woman in his face (single friend) and tell them to hit the dance floor and I went and got another slice of cake to console myself. At the bottom of the plate, while thinking how good they looked together I and mourning that I didn't look that good with him I realized I had a serious problem. I wasn't living my life, I was asking for stand ins so I didn't have to ruin everyone's view. I work for a university and always laugh at how my being at the gym makes all of the skinny college girls work out that much harder cause they don't want to turn into me. I shouldn't be the Cinderella girl after midnight. I should be the Cinderella girl at the ball.

Mostly everyones dream...ONDERLAND!
slechleiter replied to justbeingme's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been hoovering on the borderline into Onderland for ages it seems. I lost over 20 lbs in the first 2 weeks after surgery, then got down to 202, and shot back up to 205, then 206, this last fill finnally helped and this moring I weighed in at 200.4, so .6 lbs to go! lol Congrats to you! Green w/ envy, but I'm sure I'll be there soon! -
itsyvonne, I am petrified that I am heading down your path. After my 2nd fill about 1.5 weeks into it, I felt very little restriction, but all the sudden developed a tightness in the back of my throat. I just figured that I over ate or didn't chew properly or something and babies my pouch for a few days w/ soft foods (yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.) I already had my 3rd fill scheduled and did mention that I had a tight feeling in the back of my throat, and why I assumed it was there and they gave me another .5 for a total of 2.5CC's, almost immediately I felt a flare up in the back of my throat, but told myself it was temp, and the Water went down fine, etc. So I figured I was good to go and once I went on liquids for the 24 hours I'd be all set. Wrong, now I can feel the acid and have started taking Pepcid complete. Which doesn't help. I called my Doc yesterday and he still hasn't called me back, if I don't get a call by noon, I'll call again. I think I may need a slight unfill, or worst case scenario, I have already slipped. Should I request that they do an Xray to make sure that I'm properly placed?

I grew up on a ranch and I have my own theory about why fills can take awhile to "kick in" based on irrigation techniques. It is my thought that when they inject the saline solution in the port that the tubing holds some of the fill - which is why some ppl can have more than the band size filled, the tube is taking in some saline. That saline gets slowly sucked into the band by suction. This is only my theory. But it seems logical to me.
