Numbers do make a difference. Someone with 70 pounds to lose should not be having WLS. I want to get the name of her surgeon and report him. When RNY was first introduced, they would have NEVER allowed that. But do you know what happened? People with mild weight issues wanted a "quick fix" and doctors wanted the $25,000 the surgery brings.

Lol listen to what you are saying! Instead of putting down the fork NOW, you think you're choice is "surgery vs wait until I'm 300 pounds". That's your only option? Not eating as much isn't an option? And yes you have a right to do what you want with your body. But surgery is a privilege not a right.
-
Make no mistake about it, the only reason you were approved is because of MONEY. You got SURGERY over 70 pounds? Unbelievable. PS, you don't have a "right" to WLS surgery and saying you get what you want is just a nicer way of saying that you are a brat who whines until people get sick of having to listen to them. Congrats!

I suppose thats one way of putting it for every single fat person in the world. Although if you payed attention in school or had any knowledge what so ever of human chemistry, you would know that genetics and hormones, such as my high insulin trigger has much more to do with poundage being added than my time spent at a buffet table. No, it's not. The problem is that you are apparently too stupid to know what elitism is. If we dont grant a person with a 25 BMI to get WLS surgery, does that mean we feel we are more entitled to it? Or does It simply mean that it is silly for them to get it? THINK! The insurance company DID choose. They denied her. Are you paying attention? And their are world class RNY surgeons around the world who refuse to operate on patients with under a 45 BMI. Are they elitist too? Or just smart...? What is an "elas"? What is an "opion"

Should a person with a BMI of 25 be allowed WLS? No? What do you think you're more entitled to it?

Edit: double post

There is a difference between being negative and giving an opinion. I was just giving my opinion. There is a reason why insurance denied you. There is a reason why many surgeons (and some of the best in the world) refuse WLS on patients with under a 45 BMI (not even 40). I'm sorry if I struck a nerve, but sometimes the truth hurts.

Post Op Question How Much Did You Lose In The Initial 6 Months After Surgery?
Fishy replied to Mrs.D's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Are you sure???? That's 7 pounds a week! -
To be honest, I don't think you should be approved. I just dont think that people with less than 100 pounds to lose should use WLS. There is a reason why most insurance companies have that 40 BMI standard. Maybe i'm wrong. I certainly have been before. But I feel that WLS should be for those who are in dire need of it and will DIE in the next 10-20 years without it. Someone with 150, 200, 250 pounds to lose.

To me, that sounds like the kiss of death. Anything so strict seems like it would be tough to follow. -

Do You Still Feel Hungry/have Cravings?
Fishy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think hunger and cravings are some of my biggest problems. If RNY doesnt fix that, then there may be no point. So are you still hungry after surgery? -

Do You Still Feel Hungry/have Cravings?
Fishy replied to Fishy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well my surgeon has been a bariatric surgeon for over 25 years, and has had thousands of patients. He said he used to be a low fat disciple but the numbers dont lie and those who limit fat intake do not do as well as low who simply go low carb. -

Its funny seeing you say "low fat", because my doctor and surgeon think low fat diets are the devil. -
How Long Will This Whole Process Take?
Fishy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the seminar on Thursday. I called for an appointment the very next day. From my first appointment to surgery date, what is the average time? I have off this semester from school, so I'm really hoping I can have the surgery by December. I also have no deductible for the rest of the year, so my surgery would be completely covered if it's done before January 1st. I don't think I'm going to have any problem getting approval. I have good insurance. I'm 24 years old and 427 pounds. I'm on 2 blood pressure medications and I'm still high. My BMI is 60. I have elevated blood sugar. I have sleep apnea. Thanks for any info you can give! -

How Long Will This Whole Process Take?

Thanks for all of the answers everyone. I really hope it takes me less than 5 months, because I can't do it if it takes that long. Between my insurance spiking on January 1st and school starting on January 20th, I would be stuck. I would need to have the surgery by Christmas. What is the testing you had to do? And how long did each of the phases take? -
