Time of the month during tt?
BethinPA replied to JoannLz's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I don't think this is a good idea. Most people go off of birth control before surgery, because it increases your chances for clotting issues with surgery. Women get their periods along with surgery all the time - it won't affect your surgery date. They will use a pad, and you will be out, so you won't feel the cramps! -
What do folks know about seromas? Mine is still present at week 9, and I have to get a drain put back in because of it. How long can these things last?! Thanks in advance for any light you can shed…

I'm so sorry that happened to you! It feels like it will go on forever (at least it did to me) but it will pass, and hopefully you will be happy with the ultimate results!

Any recommendations for plastics in Philadelphia?
BethinPA replied to Ima1020's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
None. Sorry! -
Everything had to be approved by the human resources department of my employer. There was no third party, in my case. There was a third party for short term disability insurance, but that's a totally different subject.

I can't speak to the law. I just crossed my fingers when applying for mine, and my boss granted it. My co-worker got a tummy tuck that did not require a night in the hospital, and she asked her surgeon's staff to just describe her surgery as abdominal surgery. I don't think your employer must know the true specifics of what you are having done, merely that you have a condition that requires surgery, and that you will need x amount of time for recovery.

Any recommendations for plastics in Philadelphia?

I was really happy with main line health, and they have a bunch of surgeons to choose from. I can give you more info via PM, if you would like. -
Usually, I'm pretty even keeled, even on the Internet, but some questions...
BethinPA replied to no onions's topic in Rants & Raves
I had to take a test for both the surgeon and the nutritionist before I could have surgery. And there was still sooo much additional information that I didn't know! -
Ladies: Do you have trouble finding a good bra after wl?
BethinPA replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
It's hard on both ends of the spectrum it seems. I have the opposite problem--32DD or 30F. No one makes cup sizes that big with that small a ribcage!Actually my niece is exactly your size, and I got her fitted at Nordstroms. They put her into Chantelle bras. I bought her some on eBay for almost half of what Nordstroms charges. Just a thought … -
I think your reasons for postponing your lipo are sound. It's good to take the long view. I definitely think being in the right mind set is also important. My surgeon says his business really drops off in the summertime, so I bet you are not alone in your thinking. It's helpful to me to hear that you still have swelling. My surgeon released me from our frequent visits last week, and said I can slowly resume my activities and decrease my compression garment usage. I'm on vacation this week, so I'm in bathing suits for part of the day, and I've been not wearing compression while sleeping. Today I took a 2 mile walk on the beach in just my bathing suit, and now I feel so swollen! So tonight I'll be wearing spanx to bed. This is such a long journey! But I can start to say that it will be worth it in the end! Next summer is going to be even better for both of us! ????☀️????

Yes, mine did have me purchase any spanx-like product. -
Getting measured is nothing compared to a boob job! The surgeon has to draw all over your breasts while you are standing there naked, before he puts you to sleep. So I would think the help of a nice salesperson would seem very do-able in comparison! A good quality bra in the correct size can hide a multitude of sins. Take the plunge ????

Circumferential Body Lift Done 12/6
BethinPA replied to Scout1234's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had my surgery in January, but I still feel like I'm going through the plastics game, but it sure hasn't been a fun game to me! I read online about these people who spring right back after surgery, and God bless them, but they ain't me. I definitely still took pain meds in the evenings at 3 weeks - my skin felt like a sausage casing with all of the swelling, and all I wanted to do was take it off to take a break! A Percocet would take the edge off. This is a big surgery, and your doctor removed a whole lotta skin and fat tissue! Be gentle to yourself, and let your body heal in its own time. You got this! ???? -
I like the idea of taking a breather - it's a journey, not a race, right? I'm sorry that residual edema hasn't resolved, but I'm glad you are still hopeful that it will! How does my belly look? Kinda creepy, in my opinion, but I guess that's normal. The doctor says there is still swelling to resolve, not sure how long that takes to happen. I'm sure once the scars start to lighten up I will feel better about how I look. I'm definitely happy with how I look in clothes, and I think the muscle plication was key. I'm glad that I'm feeling more hopeful now that things are showing signs of progress, and will now consider doing the breasts someday!

You have only known this person for two months, and are still heavily into the infatuation/honeymoon stage. It is a fun time, and you should enjoy it! I think it takes at least 6 months to say that you even somewhat know the other person. You still have so many stories to tell each other, past life experiences to share. You don't have to share them all at once. Given that you have just emerged from a really, really bad relationship, understand that any guy who is even remotely a good guy, will seem like the best thing since sliced bread to you. And for good reason! So please keep your wits about you, and keep your eyes open, that what you are seeing, is true, and not just the halo effect. I say what is the rush? Take your time, share things as you feel comfortable doing so, and he is likely doing the exact same thing with you. Enjoy the ride!!

I'm cautiously optimistic! I had the drains in for 5 weeks, and then they fell out on their own, even though I was still putting out plenty of Fluid. I think me shimmying in and out of my compression garments over time just loosened the stitch enough to end that option. I was upset, but those things hurt all the time, and it was such a relief to not be in pain anymore! I've seen the doctor twice since then. The first time he drained my seroma in the office, and last Tuesday he didn't feel he needed to drain me. I know there is still fluid in there, but my body does seem to be slowing down production. He said I could begin to up my activity, and begin spending some time out of my compression garments. That night I slept in just my underwear and a t-shirt, and it felt soooo good!! So I'm going to ease into everything super slowly, I don't want to do anything that will affect my progress. 2015 has been the longest year for me, and we are only halfway through it!! How are YOU doing? All healed? Any more surgeries?

What kind of funny smell? Could be bacterial vaginosis, just your vaginal flora changing along with all of the other changes your body is adjusting to. Only way to know for sure is to see your doctor or nurse practitioner. It is likely something that is easily treated.

Back to Work after Panni + Abdominoplasty
BethinPA replied to livvsmum's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not the best one to answer this, because I've had complications- I developed a seroma and am still wearing compression garments 5 months later! But generally I believe it is surgeon preference, and for at most 3 months. -
Controversy over twilight sedation/multiple surgeries - your thoughts?
BethinPA replied to Bluesea71's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I originally wanted to have a lower body lift and a breast lift at the same time, but my American surgeon said that was no longer done, because it would require too much time under anesthesia. It took 6 hours to do the lower body lift. And part of the reason it takes so long is because they have to be so careful when turning you over, it can take something like 45 minutes to do so. As it is, even though I tried to be a careful and compliant patient, I was too active, and my incision open up in a deep way in the back, required stitches and took weeks to close up. Now I have scar tissue there that sticks up, which I'm not happy with, but will have to learn to live with. -
Back to Work after Panni + Abdominoplasty
BethinPA replied to livvsmum's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I guess it is a bit late now to respond, and I hope you made the transition well. I worked half days for 2 weeks after my lower body lift, and even then I did the minimum both at work and at home. It takes time to get your mojo back, be patient with yourself. -
Ladies: Do you have trouble finding a good bra after wl?
BethinPA replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
At Nordstroms I was fitted with a panache sports bra, and I love, love, love how comfortable they are! They look a little intimidating straight out of the package, but give them a try, and I bet you will dig them as much as I do. Best ever! -
Compression garment vs Binder
BethinPA replied to bdcsail's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Theoretically you are wearing the garment to put pressure on the abdomen so that fluid is less likely to collect there, and so the abdominal wall will more quickly adhere to the underlying structures. I don't really quite buy in to that logic, and don't feel the shapers have helped me in the least, but I keep wearing them, just in case they might help, even the littlest bit! -

congratulations, and I'm glad it went well. Enjoy the new view! ???? -
I guess my drainage is cut by a third, and he wanted me to be putting out no more than 15 Mls/ day before taking them out. How long can that take? And won't my body heal around the drain, so I would have a tract there? That's what I wonder about. I hear lipo is really painful - how much time off from work do you take for that?

Compression garment vs Binder
BethinPA replied to bdcsail's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I've had some complications and have been wearing spanks knockoffs 24/7 for over 4 months now, and I don't want to think about how much money I've spent on them! They aren't designed for that kind of wear, and they stretch out. It's frustrating. I'm sorry that I don't have a better suggestion though
