I have a consultation date!
Dreamingofhealth posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am crazy super excited!!!! Where I live (British Columbia) the wait times for a consultation is 2+ years, and today I finally got a call for a consultation in April! I wanted to share this news because I feel like this process is finally being started for me and I couldn't be happier. I have researched for over a year and decided the sleeve is the right choice for my life. If anyone else from BC has any helpful tips or suggestions to make my consultation go smoothly I would love to hear from you!! I hope everyone has a great day!!!! :-) :-) :-) -
I am currently on a very looong waiting list to get sleeved, but I have ONLY told my hubby so far. My parents would be 100% on board, but I'm waiting until I get closer to the day before I tell them only because I don't want them to worry. I don't think I will tell anyone else because I've been judged my whole life being obese and I don't want to continue being judged for the way I decided to get healthy! But then again you never know. I am a fairly private person and can't see myself telling a ton of people. Good luck to you!!

A few questions for my fellow Canadians (moreso British Columbians)
Dreamingofhealth posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey ladies and gents! These questions may be really stupid, but you won't learn if you don't ask. So here it goes: 1) If you are having surgery in a different city, are you able to do the pre-tests in your home town if they offer them? 1a) If not, how often did you have to travel to the other city? 2) What kind of exams and tests did you have to undergo? We're any of them painful? 3) If your surgery was covered by MSP, did they help with hotel stays and travel? Particularly if you had to travel back and forth numerous times for all your tests and such? 4) Was there a psych evaluation? If so what did that entail? I'm sorry for all the questions, but I've tried to do a lot of research on here but I seem to always read the American stuff and get confused! Thanks a bunch!! -
A few questions for my fellow Canadians (moreso British Columbians)

Marcy, another woman on here suggested I research him because he was her surgeon and was amazing! So far I read he's straight to the point and can be blunt, yet is amazing at what he does. How long were you on the wait list before you had a call from them? And ten how long from that point until you got sleeved? Sorry for all the questions :-) -

Things I won't miss
Dreamingofhealth replied to Lisa22465's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still on the waiting list for surgery.. But I dream all the time.. 1) To have more of a sex drive. 1a) to feel sexy for my husband. 2) Being able to buy nice 'normal' sized clothing and lingerie! 3) Being able to really play with my kids and get on the floor without being sore 5 minutes later. 4) Not being scared I won't fit in booths in certain restaurants. 5) Not having to worry about dieting anymore and the guilt that fallows after you have 'failed'. 6) Not to be paranoid that people are looking at you because you are so HUGE! 7) I want to live a long time for my kids and being the weight I am I'm scared that wont happen.. So having that feeling gone would be great! There are many more. Maybe I'll write a book lol -

Getting sleeved January 9th and feeling blue
Dreamingofhealth replied to Taylor Webster's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey there! I live in Canada and I am currently on a 2-4 year wait list for surgery. (Yikes) I am 28 years old and have been battling this all my life... I wish I was as brave and strong as you to take control of my life at a younger age! Good for you! (I'm kicking myself in the butt for not getting things rolling sooner.. I thought I could do it on my own and can't..) Please don't beat yourself up because that just makes things worse. In a year from now, you are going to look back and be thankful that you took charge and made a decision that is going to allow you to live the best life possible! You can do this! Stay strong and positive!! <3 -
Hello everyone. This may be the wrong spot to post this but I am new to this whole thing.. I was wondering if anyone from British Columbia paid for their own surgery by being financed? If so how? And did it bump up the wait time? I am currently on the wait list for MSP to cover it, but by what I'm reading and what my doctor says, it could be years before I even get a consult call. (I would be going to Richmond) I'm just scared because I'm feeling like I don't have a few years of wait in me. Can anyone tell me approximately how long they were on the waiting list for? And also, after having your initial consultation, how long did it take until surgery time? Thanks so much in advance!!! And congratulations to all of you who are having great success and who will be 'losers' very soon! -Sheena
